I can't give these guys enough praise. My Jeep broke down on 84 in Hartford and it needed to get somewhere towed nearby. After glancing at some quick reviews, Bill's looked like my best bet - BEST decision I could have made. They did anything and everything to try to keep costs low when diagnosing my clutch issue and gave daily updates on their progress with pictures! They understand the expenses that vehicles incur and genuinely attempt to keep costs low and affordable. After this major fix, I had another issue and immediately went back to Bill's. The issue was unrelated to their previous work, but Joe (who specializes in Jeeps) drove to Mass to get the part for me that day! They made me feel like a priority both times I have been here, and will take the time to give you the details about their diagnostics. I can't recommend this place enough! Bill's automotive is awesome, prompt,and courteous! I arrived in Hartford for work only to find I had a flat tire. I pulled into Bill's Automotive on Maple Avenue. Knowing they were due to close in 30 minutes I frantically asked if they could help me. Joseph came right out inspected my tire and filled it with air. While filling the tire he noticed it was leaking air, with further inspection he was certain he could plug my tire which he did. I was almost going to have a funeral for my car but decided to take it to Bill's instead. Joe was very personable and knowledgeable. I especially appreciated that he explained everything that was going on with my car. It failed emissions and another garage had told me it was not worth it to repair it. My car has been a great car and worth every penny so when Joe told me what he thought could be done to get it to possibly pass emissions, I felt much better. My repairs were done the same day and when I picked it the car, the check engine light was off--after being on for approx. 2 years! It did not sound as loud as it had been when I dropped it off and it is performing more like it used to. Granted it has over 214K miles, so I have no complaints! #LoveMyCar read more

I had the most outstanding experience at Bill's. These guys are exceptional citizens and I encourage everyone to support their business. Leaving work tonight (12/9/14), I was about to get on 91S to go home when I felt and heard what sounded like a flat tire. I pulled into Bill's lot. The lights were out and they were obviously closed being that it was late in the evening. I got out and sure enough I had a flat. The weather was a torrential downpour due to a Nor'easter. I started to unpack the spare to replace the flat myself. Then two gentlemen came out and asked if I needed help. They were two employees of Bill's who just happened to still be there even though they were closed. They were so kind and quickly jacked up my car and changed my flat so much faster than I ever could have. They asked for no payment and even took the time to inspect my other tires to make sure I would be safe going home. I was traveling a long way home. I cannot express how much I appreciate their kindness. It was dark, cold, and wet. I was in work clothes and could have been there doing it myself for a long time. Their kindness saved me a lot of aggravation. This business employs great people who care about other people. Please support them as much as you can. AMAZING SERVICE!!! My car was shaking on the highway and I was able to get the car looked at within half an hour to get an idea of what was going on. They were so patient and helpful on the phone while I was freaking out and they immediately told me the prognosis and took it in overnight. It was done by NOON the next day and everything was perfect. They explained everything to me in detail and took the time to give me suggestions for moving forward. I took my car there because it was vibrating when I was braking to a stop. They stated that they would take the car for a test drive, and call me. I specifically asked what the charge would be and they said no charge. Later that day they called and stated that a bearing needed to be replaced and that the charge was over $600. I told them that I could not afford this, and that I did not want the work done. They then told me that I had to pay them $77. They said absolutely nothing about this charge when I dropped the car off, and I argued with them about this over the phone. They finally said that there would be no charge. Later that day I went and picked up the car. As soon as I drove off the lot, I noticed that the check engine light was on. It was not on when I took the car in, and I telephoned them immediately. They lied and said it was on when I bought the car in. I absolutely believe these guys sabotaged my car in retaliation for the $77 charge. I filed a BBB complaint against them, and they responded stating that only the "complimentary 27 point inspection..." was free. Why would a customer need a complimentary 27 point inspection, if they're already paying them for diagnostic charges? These are not good guys, go elsewhere read more

After initially working with the local Audi dealership it became apparent that I needed to seek out an alternative. I stumbled upon Bill's Automotive - Thank goodness!!! I spoke with Joe and explained my situation. He assured me that he and his mechanics would remedy my problem. I must mention that I am 2500 miles away and this is my Daughters vehicle. Joe went entirely above and beyond baseline customer service. Joe stepped in and from my perspective and took on my problem as if it were his own. We've used Bill's several times for a couple different vehicles. I think they generally do good work. But it's very annoying that they charge $50 "analysis" fee no matter what the problem but DON'T apply that to your repair, which seems unreasonable. I understand charging that fee if the customer doesn't have any work done, but they shouldn't add that to the repair charge if you have them do the work! One example...battery was acting up so brought it in, they charged $50 for "charging system analysis" (which couldn't have taken 10 minutes) and then charged $250 for a new battery. The next time I had that problem I called AAA and they came to my house to assess the problem AND replaced the battery all for less than $200. Will probably still use Bill's for some repairs as I generally trust their work and they are convenient, but not sure if it's much of a savings vs. dealership service when you factor in the assessment charge. read more

Long story, but I went to parallel park in my work garage in downtown Hartford one morning and the ball joint let go on the passenger side. Had to get it towed and decided on Bill's thanks to the recommendations online. They couldn't get the parts needed that day but did have it repaired and ready to go the next day,which was perfectly reasonable to me. Unfortunately, I was experiencing some front end problems prior to the ball joint breaking and it didn't seem to get better after the work was done. I assumed my 13 year old car with 222K miles on it was just too old to drive like new. As it turned out, the alignment was way off and by the time I realized it, the tires (esp the passenger side) were badly damaged with outside wear. I took it back to Bill's and once they ascertained it was the alignment that was off (the machine was out of calibration), they agreed to fix it 100% free of charge, which should be expected. I also expected a new (used) tire to replace the passenger side but Joe decided to replace both front tires with brand new ones. That is what I call above and beyond. The car is driving better now than it has in years. It actually handles like new again. Mistake happen; it's how you handle them that shows your character. Having just abandoned a time stealing, frustrating experience up the road, I noticed the garage doors open at Bill's and decided I would at least plead my case and schedule something for the next day. Mike was professionally empathetic and encouraged me to allow him a quick look to restore my faith in the industry (not at all bad mouthing the competition, instead suggesting I try his approach at first rate service). He ensured that avoiding the dealership was the right move. He was more than right. It's enough to get over the suspicion that an auto repair facility's going to rip you off, but when the rapport/communication is on, followed by a timely detailed estimate that seems fair, followed by an actual quality repair in promised turn around time, ones faith is renewed. Mike and his team of tech's and shuttle service maintain professionalism, detail, courteous customer care throughout the whole experience. I highly recommend this company.
