Good news: I'm officially crossing one torment off the list, because our trip to Sullivan Honda was shockingly fantastic. Dave Paolino was just sensational. He was personable and not pushy or aggressive. We got a fair deal on a wonderful new 2026 CRV and a good value on our trade-in. Sullivan was the third dealer we visited, and the difference in how we were treated was noticeable. One dealer, after we spent fifteen minutes at his desk going over everything, didn't even ask for our names and contact information after we got up to leave. In another dealership, one salesman handed us off to a rookie after a few minutes who probably knew less about the makes and models than I did. We had a positive experience at Sullivan starting with the minute we walked in. After Dave introduced himself, he walked us around the showroom and the lot, answered our questions, explained the new features and technology that are light years beyond what we had in our ten-year-old model, and sent us off on a solo unaccompanied test drive. He looked at our existing car and soon wrote us out a clear to read written proposal with trade-in allowance for a new one. We wrapped things up a few days later and now have that brand new CRV. I must admit that navigating that Infotainment screen is a bit challenging and I need to get better at using the maps, apps, music, etc. I also want to give a shoutout to Sam the Android Tech and John in Finance who helped us along the way. read more

I brought my key fob in because I thought the battery was dead. The person (liar? Incompetent?) in their service department took the old battery out, supposedly put a new battery in and then said the fob was broken and I'd have to replace it. Expensive! He then put the fob back together and didn't even put the old battery back in! So he handed me an empty fob (I didn't realize it at the time). I then took the fob to my regular mechanic. They put a new battery in, and the fob worked just fine. Is Sullivan Honda just completely incompetent or is it a criminal enterprise with a business model of ripping off customers? Those are the only two options to explain my experience. They were so idiotic (or dishonest), they couldn't even successfully replace a battery in a key fob. I don't know, and I don't want to know. Went in without an appointment and came out with a brand new car the same day. Very helpful and attentive service without feeling that you're being dragged into buying something. They are very upfront about all costs and did not have any hidden fees. Of course if you are buying a car, they'll always ask you if you want extra coverage here and there, etc. but that just means you have to be a wary customer. My husband and I were specifically taken care of by Joe Kenny and he made sure to keep us updated throughout the process (running credit check, making sure insurance was in place, etc.). We never felt pressured or pushed into anything we didn't want. We are very satisfied with our purchase. If you're there, ask for Howard, friendly and knowledgeable about the product they are trying to sell. Very reasonable COVID-19 measures: all staff had masks and all amenities were kept clean. They have a lounge area where you can wait, fully equipped with coffee and water machines. Their men's bathroom was reasonably clean as well. Onto the sales aspect, friendly staff and will take the time to explain everything you need to know, not just about the car you're looking at but will also give you a breakdown on how financing and/or purchasing them will be like. Unfortunately, we could not reach a deal on a car I wanted (2017 Honda Accord EX), but that is the price of business. I would wholeheartedly still recommend this place to a friend first, if they are looking for a Honda though. And please take the time to make an appointment before visiting. read more

Review for purchasing a vehicle, not regarding repairs: Just purchased a vehicle from Sullivan Honda. The staff were extremely helpful and informed. I went to several dealerships to test drive competing vehicles and at Sullivsn they were very chill while several of the other dealerships acted extremely aggressive like they're still stuck in the 90s. Sullivan Honda says "take your time and choose the right vehicle for you" where other dealers ignore your needs and just try to push you into the newest model, highest trim. I've now bought 2 used CR-Vs from Sullivan Honda in Torrington, Ct, and been impressed both times with their informed, friendly, and low pressure approach to helping me find a good car. Howard Beaulieu is a knowledgeable and helpful salesperson (I've worked with him both times), and Tim Kulla is one of the more genial and informed auto finance people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. My sense, as well, is that Sullivan has one of the largest inventories of used CR-Vs in the tri-state (MA, CT, NY) area. Their website also provides helpful information about their cars prior to making a visit. Definitely worth the drive if you live anywhere near Torrington. The one thing to keep an eye on (true of most dealers these days) is unnecessary (and sometimes costly) add-ons like VIN glass etching, etc. read more

I've taken my 2011 Honda accord to them only one time and was very impressed at their honesty and the scope of work (Brakes, Throttle body cleaning & brake fluid flush). Businesses have to realize that if you give an honorable and reliable assessment, customers are more likely to spend money and give you repeat business. Sullivan honda service advisors were extremely helpful. I had an appointment for some service on my 2006 Honda Civic for air bag recall, they advised me that the job would take approximately 2 hours. The job was done within 1 1/2 hours, and they were fantastic. Unfortunately for me, the next day I was in an accident with a tractor trailer and I don't think that the car will survive. But the people at Sullivan Honda were very easy to deal with. I've bought 3 cars from them before, and if they keep treating me well, I'll keep buying from them! read more

Sadly, I will not be returning to Sullivan Honda for any type of service. When I purchased my vehicle I did not realize that my car had defective windshield wipers but the first rain storm proved them to be horrible. I went to the dealership and they said my wipers were fine. The next storm we had I almost had an accident due to the wipers not functioning properly. I went back to Sullivan's, the Service Manager recognized the problem and SOLD me $60 replacement wipers. I explained that this was an defective part from the time I purchased the car. It didn't matter. A week later we had a snow storm and the wiper completely fell apart. I had to drive home from work at 1 o'clock in the morning, 30 miles, in a snow storm with no wipers! The following morning I went to the dealership and Rob helped me out. He replaced the wipers free of charge. I decided to give them one more try and scheduled an oil change. I dropped the car off 15 minutes early and didn't hear from them so I called and hour and 45 minutes later. They hadn't even started my car yet. I had a scheduled appointment-I took my car to Valvoline for an oil change. It took 20 minutes. Now I have to figure out how to get my money back for the warranty I purchased because I will never go here for service again!! read more

Be careful Honda does not stand behind their product. Cars are known for excessive oil consumption. Dealer will tell you that having to add up to a quart of oil every 1000 miles is acceptable! Honda is in a CYA mode regarding this issue. Who is going to pay for my catalytic converter or fouled spark plugs from excessive oil? I will NEVER buy another new Honda car! read more

I purchased a used Mini Cooper that I had found online as a part of the dealerships inventory. I inquired about it on a Sunday (dealership is closed), thinking I'd get a call back on Monday. To my surprise, I got a call on Sunday, from Dave. He was great, talked about the car, the condition. I expressed a lot of interest, and sight unseen put a deposit down. Was a great value compared to some other used Mini's I had looked into. Through the week Dave and I hammered out the details, going through pricing was simple, and logical. The list price of the car was the price I paid, no haggling, no back and forth with a manager with prices that don't add up. Clear cut break down, of every dollar in the overall cost (taxes, dealer fees, titling, etc.). It was great, and with that all set up it made checking out the vehicle and test driving it a breeze. Car was in excellent condition, better than the internet ad said it would be. And I drove off the lot with the car i wanted at a great price, can't beat that! read more

I have a 2011 Honda Ridgeline that got a check engine light on at about 61000 miles. After bringing the truck in, I was told I needed a new catalytic converter. They were surprised that it went out so early, but I was still within the warrenty period and they replaced it. After driving for a couple more days, my check engine light came back on with sputtering as I drove. It went away after I pulled over and shut the truck off for a few seconds, but the light remained. This occurred a couple of times. After bringing the truck back in, they discovered that my #2 and #3 cylinders were not firing correctly and the cylinder walls were scored. They talked to a visiting Honda service rep and even though my truck was just out of warrenty by a few miles, Honda agreed to pick up almost 95% of the $5500.00 job to replace my lower block, new spark plugs, and a new timing belt. I essentially have a brand new lower engine with zero miles. The timing belt change alone is a $1000.00 job which I won't need now for another 100k miles rather than 40k which I had left until the normal replacement of my original one. Sullivan Honda stepped up to the plate by convincing Honda to authorize the payment of this repair because of my prior service record with them, the fact that it may have been caused by another system (catalytic converter) which went out abnormally soon, and I was just barely over the original warrenty mileage. Overall, I couldn't be more satisfied with the repairs Sullivan Honda performed and the foot work that Anthony, the Sullivan Honda service rep I worked with. He arranged to give me a loaner car, went to bat for me with Honda, and kept me informed, even while I vacationed in Italy, of the status and progress of the repair service. I have purchased 3 vehicles from them in the past and will gladly purchase my next one from them when the time comes in the future. I have always been treated with exemplary service and respect by the entire Sullivan (Torrington) Honda family. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking to purchase or lease a Honda vehicle. read more

I had never gotten a car here before, until this past Independence Day weekend...and it was a very worthwhile experience! Prior to this particular trip in search for a new vehicle I used to bring down my previously owned Accord for random maintenance and inspections, and had a greatly above average dealer-based garage experience for all of those trips. Now, flash forward years later, I was in search of a new vehicle, and after months of deliberation and flip-flopping between thoughts of wanting to drive this and that amongst several makers I decided once and for all it was coming down between either a Mazda CX-3 / CX-5 or Honda CR-V. I test drove a CX-5 first at a dealership closer to the heart of the state, and while I found the vehicle to be intriguing to some degree, I was vastly underwhelmed as to how their salesperson tried selling me this particular car. So, without wanting to rule out my other top pick, I stopped by Sullivan Honda in Torrington and was pleasantly surprised to become acquainted with Tim and Howard. Tim, the business manager, stepped in and gave me a warming introduction to the site while the sales associates were busy helping other clients. When things opened up he set me up with Howard, who to this day is the best salesman I have ever had the pleasure of working with! He showed me all the necessities, the ins and outs of everything I sought to see about the CR-V without even asking! His demonstrations were second to none and gave me a lengthy try and driving the car around as to get a solid feel for my potential new vehicle in all of its surroundings - on the highway, through the town, and even partially in the outskirts. My heart was well placed with the CR-V as we sat down to discuss figures on a potential lease. While the numbers I saw were good, I wasn't completely sold and had only the intention of just test driving for the day, I told Howard I was going to give the Mazda a second look just in case with a different dealership; he then made me an offer I couldn't refuse, which sealed the deal. Yes, at the end of this day, we both ended up as winners based upon this fantastic interaction. I would highly recommend Howard and just Sullivan Honda in general. Working with Tim in closing the deal was just as good - these guys are very upfront; you won't be bombarded with any hidden fees you weren't expecting and whatnot.
