Also my tail gate lights blew out and he was able to help me put them in! just randomly showed up and he was able to get me in on a walking in bases, now that's great service. To help put a point on just how fantastic the service I got from these guys at Midas was, this is the first time I have EVER felt the need to go out a write a review for any company, whether good or bad. I have had an ongoing nightmare of a brake job that I was attempting at home with the help of a friend, and we were running into hurdle after hurdle every step of the way with shops misquoting prices, promising to have parts in stock then being out of stock when we showed up, and my friend's tools going missing, so when my friend dislocated his fingers and couldn't help me anymore, my frustration and stress levels while throwing in the towel and calling Midas were Stratospheric. Thankfully, choosing Midas at random was the best thing I could ever have done, I got Jeff on the phone and explained that I already had all the parts, and may have even vented a little bit about Autozone to him as well. He was very understanding and quickly quoted my his prices for the labor since I would provide the parts, and when the high end of the estimate was going to make me have to wait until my next paycheck to get things finished, he reassured me that they would do what they could to get things taken care of within my budget. I brought my truck in as they were closing that day when I got off work, and it was ready far sooner than I could have imagined it would be the next day, and when it came to the price, Jeff was true to his word and was able to work within my budget to get me back on the road. I have never had an auto shop that went out of their way to take care of their customers like this one does. Jeff in particular seemed to have made it his mission to go above and beyond and to get me back on the road. Everything prior to my trip to Midas during this brake job was a nightmare, and just kept compounding on itself and getting worse. I had called because my military ID was stuck in a spot in my car where I was unable to retrieve it and Jovanni was super helpful! Told me to bring my car right away and that they would be able to retrieve my ID. In about an hour he called to let me know they had gotten my ID out and I was over the moon as I had been trying to get it out for weeks with no luck. I normally go to my Mecanic friend in Vegas to fix my car but I'm here for now .I have a Land Rover.I took it to a Land Rover place and they gave two pages that they found " they claimed " that was wrong.Maybe I got treated differently because I'm a woman.I took it to Midas and Jeff the manager was the man to help me out! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I've had my oil changed here several times with zero problems but my recent experience was horrible and I will never go back. I went in for an oil change, a new tail light bulb and new windshield wipers. I came out having to purchase a brand new tire.... The service took an hour and a half which is lengthy for an oil change. Other customers having oil changes were in and out within a half hour. They claimed to be 'out of bulbs' for my tail light and were getting more which is why it was taking so long....now I know this was an excuse for something else. When I drove out of the lot my air pressure indicator turned on which struck me as odd. I'd purchased 4 new tires from Costco only two months ago so I shouldn't have low air pressure. I figured one of the tires was a dud so I brought my car into Costco to have them check it out. Come to find out, somehow while my car was at Midas, one of my tires was punctured and then "repaired" (and not repaired well) with some sort of plug. I understand mistakes happen and if I were made aware of the situation then perhaps I wouldn't be writing this review right now. However, shady behavior kept the employees from telling me what was going on and they let me drive off onto the freeway with a destroyed tire. My tire is now out of warranty with Costco because 'another shop has worked on it' (without my knowledge or consent). So, I've had to spend $115 to buy a brand new tire....great. The icing on the cake here is that the owner Allen Hallenbeck was over the top rude on the phone. I've never been treated so poorly as a customer! Unbelievable. I calmly explained the situation and he spoke over me as if I were in the wrong. He made up some phony excuse that an employee took a nail out of my tire and was "doing me a favor" by fixing it. Really?? Strange that my light came on AFTER I left Midas, no? Allen was unsympathetic to my situation....and then hung up on me!!! Totally crazy. It's almost laughable except I'm stuck having to pay. I've never had to write a Yelp review because I usually brush bad experiences off. However, I've never felt so inclined to share an experience and hope I can save others time and money by avoiding this establishment. I'm going to the BBB to file an official complaint. read more

I have been the services of Jeff and team since we moved to Carlsbad in 2018. Amazing guys. They have taken good care of my car (2012, Nissan Sentra). They never recommended any additional services or additional sales. They are all courteous and amazing professionals to work with. My car was giving "Check Engine Soon" warning and Jeff looked at it, put it on the diagnostics, figured out that I needed to get the software updated. We went to Nissan dealership, got it done. We were relocating from Carlsbad to Frisco TX, and asked Jeff's opinion on driving this car (had a mileage of 120K), he told it was perfectly fine and we can drive. On our way (about 50 miles from Carlsbad), we though there was an issue in the car as it was NOT accelerating. Called Jeff and he immediately spoke to a nearest Midas shop (3 miles away). It was found we put in excess luggage in our trunk and hence the issue. We transferred the luggage to our van. We drove rest of 1400+ miles without any issue. I would strongly recommend Jeff and team any day. Excellent customer service. Way to go read more

Wow! What a great service provider. Last night my low pressure tire indicator went on. I called Midas at 7:30 am, was there by 7:45 and out the door by 8:15 with my tire patched. My 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider broke down again (twice in 3 weeks!). This time, it was the dynamo (generator), which failed due to one of its bearings seizing up. This happened a mile away from Midas and since they had been so helpful to me when my brakes master cylinder failed, I took it to them... and Jeff was just as helpful as before. He found a place in San Diego (AES) that rebuilds such units, had my dynamo completely reconditioned and refitted it, all in a few days with New Year in between. I have been going to Jeff, who runs the Midas on El Camino Real in Encinitas for over a year. He's worked on my Toyota Matrix as well as my Ford F150. He's such a staight-up and honest guy, and I had another excellent experience with him, so I thought I'd write a review. If you're looking for a great mechanic that can do everything and is totally honest, look no further. Here's the latest example: The 4 wheel drive unit went out in the front right wheel of my F150. Lots of banging and slipping. Not good. I brought it in to Jeff at Midas and after taking a look at it he gave me an estimate of about $900 to fix it and explained what needed to be replaced. After doing the work, he said that the cost was going to be about $250 less because one of the parts he thought would need to be replaced was actually fine. Further, I asked him to grind both front rotors (lots of wobbling while braking) and asked if he could give me a deal since the right front wheel was already off and the truck was already on the lift, and he said yes, and gave me a good price on this as well. All the work was well done, and I had another, very pleasant interaction with Jeff and left feeling very good about the whole thing. As Usual. I can't even count how many times I've had that sick feeling that I've been totally ripped off for car repairs. Finally I have found my answer to all my full service car needs with Jeff and his awesome team of experts. All the people there seem to really love the work they do and when you walk in you can feel the good energy there. I needed help with this horrendous sound coming from under the car. I had an appointment set up which I was 30 minutes late for but they had no problem fitting me in. I appreciated the staff's positive attitude so I immediately felt like I was in good hands. They diagnosed the problem for FREE and it turned out it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Jeff even showed me the break in my muffler line so I could really understand the problem. So many times we are expected to depend on blind faith to get us through the repair process never really knowing if we're being taken advantage of. I had tire trouble on and off for 3 weeks (slow leak) and haven't had time to deal with it (I travel for a living). I expected a 2 hour wait and average service. What I got was an incredibly courteous and professional employee and fast turn around. Thank you Jovani for really making it a great experience. By the way, he not only immediately made sure I was taken care of, I overheard a brief conversation he had with another patron talking about what work was needed on his car. The customer didn't have enough money to fix all the problems with their car (big, obvious problems). Jovani was working to see what work was absolutely necessary in the moment to get the guy his car back, and what work he could hold off for, and how long, so the guy could spread the maintenance cost over time. I don't see people taking that much time to really work with their customers all that often. Another testament to the great service at this Midas location. read more

I have had nothing but great experiences with these mechanics. I just wanted to make sure all was working in my car. Nothing specific was a problem. They told me the bare minimum that needs to get done, like an oil change, and a tire rotation. I have been ripped off before, where I bring in my car for a check (and I am a woman) and then told I have all kinds of things wrong with my car when I don't. I totally TRUST this company! Came here to get a second opinion and quote on my brakes. The guys were very helpful. They have better prices on synthetic oil changes than Jiffy Lube so I will be back. One star docked - because they checked my brakes (and therefore touched my tires), but left a lot of oil smudges on my rims, which should have easily been wiped off with a rag before I picked up my car. I too used to like this place. They took extra time to look at a problem with my hood. However, that does not excuse them when they made a $2000 estimate when my wife brought our van in. When I said I would like to take it to another shop for another estimate they said they would not recommend I drive it. When I got it to Coast Brakes on 101, they found two of the lug nuts had been cross threaded when the tires were put back on and had to be replaced. The other "critical" problem that Midus said must be fixed immediately could not be found and until today (2 years later) has never emerged. I wrote to Midus who sent me back a form letter with a 10% off coupon and appear uninterested in addressing the problem of inaccurate repair estimates. I do not recommend any one goes here. read more

Great place! I like the work they do here, upfront and honest. If you have an issue with your vehicle, if you want they will take you to the garage and show you what is going on (leaks, torn gaskets, worn tires or brakes, etc.) Few other things I like is they have a military discount and free tire rotations is part of their service. With pricing, they try to work with you as best as they can of course. If you have an appointment and need additional service they will try and fit your schedule or make a follow-up appointment. read more

I had a problem with another local shop that had installed a new cat. converter and a muffler which resulted in a noisy exhaust. Sounded like Indy 500, and when I brought it to them, they claimed that the noise was normal. I went to Midas for a second opinion, and they checked it out. Result was that original shop had installed a 14" muffler when it should have been a 20". Midas did not charge me for this service.
