Fast service, I didn't have to make an appointment. Came in for a bulb replacement and to have my a/c fixed. Very relaxed environment offering Hulu and Netflix if you feel like waiting. You get regular updates on your car and the prices are extremely competitive. I always come here and will again in the future for regular maintenance. read more

Whelp. That is the last time I will do Midas! I had a Free oil change that was given too me from the time they messed up my tires on my smart car a year ago. So, I figured why not - I have a Ford now, cant mess an oil change up! I had an appointment at 9 am. and at 9:32 I could still see my car parked in the lot. I'm the only one sitting in the lobby this whole time. At 10, I asked if there was an ETA of when my car would be done. I was advised that the tech was just trying to get my light off. At 10:20 the tech came back in, asked the manager a question and they both went back to look at my car. At 10:30 (when I was supposed to be at work) I get asked if I want to check out. He gives me the total: $47.48 and I pause. I had picked the mid-grade synthetic blend off the little mat that lists the pricing in-front of us at the check out desk when I handed over my keys, and that mid-level I picked was $49.95. They also were going to accept my voucher for the free oil change and since I picked the level up from what they usually do for free, they were just taking off $29.99. I mean, my math is bad but not THAT bad. I ask why it was so much, and the guy tells me I picked full synthetic and points to the highest level which is $69.95. I clearly had not picked this level, but at this point I am late to work already and what am I going to do - argue with the guy who couldnt even take verbal/physical instructions? I had literally pointed AND said I wanted the mid level, not 2 feet way from his face. Im upset, late, and just ready to go - so I pay and leave. I then get back into my car, and the first thing I always do is reset my car to start tracking my time to the next oil change. Yet, my dash board which shows me all my read outs for my car including MPH - is reading "MyKey Info". What the heck? I toggle through all the other options, I can see nothing but this new message and no read outs. I am LIVID. The fact that I was already going to be late for work, been over charged for something I did not ask for, and obviously the people working on my car didnt know what they were doing - was the only reason I did not walk back in there and give them a piece of my mind. I called Ford, and they can do my oil change for $16 and some change, and will be fixing my display on Monday. So now I have to drive this weekend with none of my dashboard readings, unless I can figure out how to fix it myself between now and then. Irony: They had a sign on the check out desk that said 'If you leave a 5 star rating on Yelp, and show them - Any service over $99 you get 10% off'. Yeahhh....So MUCH #NOPE read more

Took my car here a few months ago for an inspection. The car failed the inspection, and they said this was due to a power steering pump leak that would cost over $900 to repair. I passed on the repair and waited a few weeks. Later I noticed the car had trouble accelerating. I took it into an independent mechanic and they said my car had a leak, but it wasn't power steering fluid but oil. I needed to have the gasket replaced, and I did for $100. After that I took it to another independent shop in Houston for an inspection and it passed--no power steering leak or repair needed. Had I trusted their judgement I would have been out $1,000 for an unnecessary repair. I'll probably avoid going to any Midas location, but especially this one for any repairs or inspections. read more

Grossly overcharged for parts. $200 for a $30 gasket set from any auto parts store. And $312 for a$100 for another part that sells for less than $100 from the dealership. I obviously understand that customers will pay more since they have to procure the parts etc. but in all my years of comparing parts prices online to what the shops charge this was over the top. I was told by the manager that the computer decides what to charge and that is all he knows. Also claimed that they only raise prices by 60%. This was almost 800% and 300%. read more

I came in with a Groupon for an oil change months ago and they quoted me an hour. 3 hours later I was still there. The manager gave me 2 free oil changes (I did not ask for) after I left. When I came in to collect it, they STILL charged me $28 for a filter because it wasn't in stock. They did not inform me until I had been waiting an hour already. If they were to tell me before hand I would have left. I had no other option to pay since I'm going out of town. So disappointed. read more

Dishonest mechanics. I came in knowing I needed a new battery. The mechanic tried to push me to get a new alternator despite the fact that I had tested my alternator immediately before going to the shop. I didn't get a new alternator although he told me that I absolutely needed it right away. When I picked up my car I asked to see the results for the charging system test they ran to diagnose the alternator. They told me "it just says low battery so that means your alternator is putting out no electricity, you are running on only the battery". They wouldn't let me see it. I left, and checked the alternator myself at home. Perfect 14.3 volt reading with engine on. Several of the mechanics (there were three involved working with me) lied to me on multiple occasions to try to convince me to do a 600$ repair on my car, thinking that I was too naive to know better. read more

Total Fail. Took my son here to get his catalytic converter replaced. That was on a Tuesday. After a week of waiting because the ordered parts were sent to the wrong location, they had to physically drive to San Antonio to chase down the ordered part. All the while, my sons car sat in their maintenance yard. During this time, we were led to believe that it was going to "be here tomorrow" and "I guarantee it will be here today". On top of that, they offered us a discount if we were to give them a good review on yelp. At the end of the week we received no discount for the wait and paid almost $2000 for the catalytic converter to be replaced. Cannot recommend. We warned you. read more

Omg, I just wanted an oil change, a new battery, to see if they can fix my bad power steer and find out why one of my headlights was dimmed. My boyfriend and I were so pissed off that we will never ever go back to this place again. I had a couple good experiences with MIDAS at the another locations, but not today at this location. First problem - They fucked up on the payment and told me that my debit card was declined. WTF? Then they went opps that the plug for the credit machine was unplugged. So, they swiped again and probably did the double transactions (my order was $177) and that went to say declined on my card. I was telling them that it was a total bullshit and then cashier asked me if I can view my bank account online at this place. I told him I don't use it (I actually do, but I did not feel comfortable with him looking onto my account). I went back to my car to go home, so I can call the bank and to find out if they actually had charged my card or not. Second problem - as soon as I get back into my car (this was after the service and my car's engine was perfect before came in this shop) and my car was fucking dying. It would not start up properly or to stop the nasty vibrations that my car had never had before. Third problem - when the guys saw me coming back in and told them about my car dying, they became assholes and did not try to help me or to be cool with me. A guy gave my boyfriend a fucking lecture for a five good minutes - all blah blah that my car needs that and that. My boyfriend smelled a total of bullshit and blew up on the guy. Merely TWO MINUTES later, they did something that got my car magically perfect again. Isn't it kinda shady?! The guys were getting shit on themselves that we were not dumb. Finally, I went home and called my bank (my bank is in Virginia) and asked them if there were any transactions made today without telling them ANYTHING about MIDAS at all. They said MIDAS with the address and the time and the charge of $177 has been charged. You have no idea how piss off I was when they mentioned this. I called MIDAS with my debit card authorization number and blah, but they refused to believe for a few minutes. They are still saying I did not pay. WTF. I will go back on tomorrow and kick their asses and to get my paperworks and everything. read more

I've been getting my oil changes here for years now and it's been a pretty smooth. My last oil change though they inadvertently broke my hood release latch. I noticed it after driving away and the handle fell on the floor. I took it back to them and they admitted that it was their fault and offered to fix it. Though it took a few weeks due to delays, they repaired my car without charge. 5 stars for honesty. Also, they have wifi. read more

On my 2003 GMC truck that I have always taken to the Valvoline oil station since new but for that last two times they have started to cheat like not looking at my air filter and every time I ask for them to give me a front lube in my front joints, they said oh sorry but the luber is broke. So guess what i'm done with them. I called this midas shop and a very nice guy on the phone said we do it all, so I made an apponitment with them talking to Mr. walker I said i need oil and 4 new shocks, I ask for Valvoline oil he said no problem and then said be in by 8 tish and will have you out by 10am. well he kept his word, I was done and out by 9am. this is my go to place from now on. Classic rip-off garage, especially if you are female I bought a great used car for my son, only had 60K miles. The car is running fine but it's time for the 60K service so I brought it to Midas for transmission fluid and oil change. The Midas guy called me up and said the car needed $1800 worth of work, including stuff like a new thermostat and a new distributor cap. He also decided I needed 4 new tires and added that to the bill. On the phone with Midas I said "do NOT do any work on this car". I immediately went to Midas to get the car and take it somewhere else. When I got there the car was up on a lift and a mechanic was taking parts off of the bottom of the car. Turns out he had already drained the oil out, despite my explicit instructions on the phone to not do any work. Midas is a shady operation, strongly recommend AGAINST going here. read more

Plugging a flat tire is obviously a pretty difficult task. Instead of taking my car back to Midas for a THIRD time in as many days to have them attempt to fix my flat, I think I will be taking my complicated automotive problem to a more helpful establishment. After taking my poor flat tire back to Midas for the second time, the staff was unable to believe that they were incapable of fixing a flat tire and offered the hypothesis that perhaps some neighborhood kids were letting air out of my tire just to screw with me. Yes, I agree, someone is screwing with me. Pro tip: When trying to find small leaks, submerge the tire in water. read more

If I could put a negative star, it would be more accurate. I took my car in for brakes in April. New pads, turned the rotors blahblah. Pretty routine. Drove great no problems...for three weeks. Then the squeal came back. Back to Midas, turn the rotors again, de-glaze the pads, etc. Fine for a little while. Squeal came back AGAIN. Back to Midas. This time they managed to add a lovely shimmy when the brakes were applied in addition to the re-occurring musical squeal. Back to Midas. It's now JULY. Turn the rotors AGAIN, more new pads, blahblahblah. Aug. Guess what? Sounds like a flock of seagulls every time I stop. Bike riders and joggers are whipping their heads around to figure out what that noise is. Back to Midas. This time I get "Mike" (did you know they recycle uniforms? There are always Mikes there) He decides to "cut me a deal" on the new rotors he says I need. Did I mention I work at home and I've hardly put 900 miles on my car since this saga began? I declined the "deal", he changed my pads (and my oil because they had the wrong ticket on my car.) Guess what's back??? I have to say that I used to love this place and the work they did. Now the quality of work they're doing is almost scary. BTW, there was a woman in line next to me who was back for her third time for the same "repair". So it's not just me. Update: The squeaky wheel gets the grease..why does it take a LOUD complaint to get a resolution? I posted a complaint on the Midas website and - viola! - a district manager called me. He came over and picked up my car and personally fixed my brakes with Toyota parts and it's been fine since. read more

I went to the Guadalupe location to have the work done at the Ben White location rechecked. Turns out, Ben White did the job correctly, but of course, as has been the case with Midas, left with a $500 estimate for more work to get done on my car. I'd like to point out that the gentlemen I dealt with were superb in their Customer Service skills. Mark, the manager, was a bit stand offish, but I can let that slide 'cause he looked busy. He did close the entire transaction. The estimates I've gotten at Midas, initially $2000 for three separate jobs (at the Ben White location) I was able to complete for $500. I'm sure this new estimate, I can get done for $100, parts included. I agree that gouging might be a business practice. read more

The guy tried to charge me 60 for a quote & I said no, he said "okay you can leave" I changed my camshaft sensor for 25$ from autozone after they quoted me 974$.. I am not mad bc I never paid them and already expected terrible service but good grief guys please go to another shop. In my opinion, you should not go here. I got a nail in my tire and was close by so I just pulled in and asked for a patch up. It took them about 30 minutes to assess that, yes, I do have a nail in my tire. The guy told me I couldn't get a patch up and, instead, should buy two brand new tires "for balance." He also told me that state law only allows patch ups in the middle three inches of the tire surface where it meets the road. I later found out from another mechanic that this was an absolute lie. After the first guy failed to sell me two tires, the manager stepped in with a better price for one tire. How does that happen in ten minutes. Weird! When I told them that I'd rather shop around and get a second opinion, the manager then pushed harder with the sell. I got an uncomfortable, creepy vibe from the manager and then looked on yelp to see if anyone else had a similar experience. And, alas, it looks as though I am not the only one. I ended up going to A Jack's on e. 7th and got my tire patched up within 15 minutes. The guys there were fast, kind, and respectful. (See their page for my exuberant review.) read more

I don't live in Austin, but I was in town for a weekend and visiting my cousins. During my stay, my engine light came on and I cringed thinking of how this was yet one more errand to run before heading back on the road to Dallas the next day. While driving down Guadalupe that night, I saw on their sign that they were running an oil change and tire rotation special and, since those are the exact two services I needed, decided to stop by on my way out of town. On cars-- not at all an expert on them. It's not that I dislike them or don't care to learn, it's that there was never a need for me to do so. My dad/brother/boyfriend have always taken care of car problems for me, so this was the first time I did anything auto-related on my own. The people at this Midas location made me feel very comfortable, explained everything to me in a way I could understand and, most importantly, were patient with my stupid questions. HOWEVER, the best part came after the oil change was finished. After paying and being handed the keys, I promptly hopped in and took off for the gas station across the street to fill up for the drive back to DFW. I'm in the gas station convenience store, deciding which flavor of Combos to buy, when someone taps me on the shoulder. The Midas guy tried to chase me down and ran across the street to return that little metal ring-thingy/part that's required to look at your tires and/or change your oil! (Definitely not a car expert, as you can see.) This act of kindness and diligence really stood out to me, especially since there's no way I would've known caught it until the next time my car was nearly dead, 4 hours away in Dallas. Like I said earlier, I don't live in Austin, but if I did, I would certainly always visit this Midas location. 5 stars for a job well done + great service. read more

Made sure I NEEDED a new tire, which I did, and asked if I wanted to replace another older tire, I said no, and were as easy as Sunday morning to work with. Just don't do it. I asked them for an oil change and to look at a coolant leak because I wanted to sell it. When I got it back and asked about the coolant leak, the guy said..."IDK, you said you were going sell it, right?" Took the car to Brake Check and they found and repaired the coolant leak. A time before this I asked for an oil change and instead got a my car back with lots of white smoke coming from the tail pipe. The manager took responsibility, felt bad and gave a me a coupon for a free oil change. Thought it was a one off---it wasn't. There are some other instances I won't mention here. All I will say is that I should've taken this car somewhere else and I'm kicking myself for all the time and money wasted at this place.... DON'T. DO. IT. read more

I recently moved to Austin and part of the hassle of a move is finding your go-to trusted mechanic. I stopped in to the Midas on Guadalupe a few months ago to have my AC looked at and Ned was not only genuinely friendly but started me on a path to beating the heat. I've had to stop in a few times since to work out all the kinks of my AC system, and every time Ned takes the best care of me and makes sure that I understand exactly what's going on and gets my full consent before doing anything. I've been into more auto shops that I can count where the mechanic sees that I'm a woman and takes advantage of my time and money, doing work that I never asked for, assuming I don't know anything etc. I'm still working toward feeling at home here, but it's so nice to have Ned as my trusted mechanic that I can rely on anytime I need! read more
