Nice soap and hand sanitizer very clean for auto service center. The staff was friendly and helpful they did service recommendations and unfortunately I couldn't afford the repair at this time. Come here if you want to get scammed. They will relentlessly try to get you to replace unnecessary parts and lie to you when you ask the reason. They told me I have to replace my alternator and serpentine belt, but provided no evidence of why. On top of overcharging me on a battery by $70, repeatedly lying about it after I questioned them, charging me $300/hr of labor charges (after I haggled) on a battery replacement, AND waiting 2 hours for them to replace the battery, they left my battery control module unplugged on purpose (they did the same to one of my friends, which is how I know it's on purpose) to get me to come back once the check engine light came on. I fixed it myself and they offered me 3 free oil changes and refused to give me a refund or just change the price to be more reasonable even though they messed up and tried to scam me at every step along the way. I called Midas corporate to explain the situation and they called me from the shop and pretended to be in the corporate office even after I called them on it. I literally heard car honking in the background. I also heard them talking about how they need to get the Google review quota to 4.5/5 and openly hounding people to leave 5 star reviews in front of me. read more

Avoid at all costs! Took in two cars for oil changes. They lost the tire lock on one and refused to replace it. Another tire bolt came off after driving away. On the other vehicle, they "topped off the fluids", to which I found my transmission dangerously overfilled. The store manager refused to return my calls. Women, BE VERY AWARE!!! On 9/27/22 I took my truck to Midas Auto Service on 4001 Guadalupe in Austin for an oil change. In addition to the oil change, Midas told me that the outer left and right tie rods and the front control arms were bad, and needed replacement, total cost: $2342.67. I was shocked! My truck had less than 50,000 miles and I simply couldn't believe this. I took my truck to two different (respected) auto service shops, Duett's Automotive Service and Dave's Ultimate Automotive Shop. Both inspected the front end and reported that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the front end. Duett's also told me that the oil drain plug was stripped out so badly that it couldn't be drilled out and retreaded. The oil pan would have to be replaced and was leaking so badly that, if it hadn't been spotted, would have lost all oil within a day (Duett's also reported that Midas had installed the wrong oil filter). Midas did note on their repair order that the oil plug was stripped, claiming that it was in that condition when I brought it in. It wasn't! All of the leaked oil was new oil, with no evidence of old, dirty or burned on oil on the undercarriage (photos document this). This looks like a classic case of "cover your ass" by the person who did this. The oil pan replacement, parts and labor, cost $720.29 (we got three different estimates, this was typical). I had it done at Duett's. After this, I didn't want Midas even touching my truck again. I asked Midas to pay for the damage they had caused. They refused. I can't help but wonder if a 30 year old man, wearing a NASCAR ball cap would have told this, rather than a 67 year old woman, there alone. I SERIOUSLY doubt it! read more

I've never written a bad review. This place is the worst though. They lie about what is wrong with my car to get more money. They're manipulative saying they give "a complementary check" of your car (when you're just there for an oil change) and then come up with thousands of dollars worth of issues you need to fix. On top of that, they were so concerned with scamming me that when I asked for a tire rotation, inspection, and oil change, they didn't give me a tire rotation and so I had to go back in and call them out and they said they "forgot". Then, I go home to renew my registration, but they didn't put it in the database that I had passed my inspection! So again, I had to drive back on another day, so they could re-do it. This place is the cheapest place in austin for a synthetic oil change. I called places all around austin and received quotes for $80-120. Midas charged me $45. My one qualm is that I never received a call when my car was ready for pick up...for the price difference, though, I don't really care. I will say, book off a good amount of time if you're taking your car here. It is not a quick in and out thing (at least not when I went) and I spent about 4 hours for the whole process in total. 2 hour wait time to get serviced. 1 hour in which my car was ready but they had forgotten to call me. I had to call back and I don't think I would have been notified till much later. Price is a big factor for me, so I gave 4 stars. If the price point had not been so good, I would have given 3. This Midas outlet is under new management in 2019. I have found everyone there to be engaged and eager to offer the best quality of service on my car. They troubleshoot and are very clear about each and every service they deem necessary for my, older, car. I try to take excellent basic care and do maintenance on my car on a regular basis and at this Midas they don't suggest that I do more than will keep my car running well for a long time. They always do the little extras that add up over time for no or very little additional expense. for someone who is not a mechanic herself, it is important to me to find a company I trust! read more

I got my power steering replaced here with a 90 day warranty for $1200 (I knew it was high but they were in my neighborhood and I needed it done quickly) It was malfunctioning again within a few weeks. Brought it back for warranty work. Was told twice it was a different part and issue and was quoted over $1000 to repair again!!!! What a joke. Two Weeks after the 90 day warranty ended I was in Houston and it broke down again. Took it to a shop there and had the entire power steering repair done again for half the price with a 5 year warranty. I went back to this location and talked with the manager (Walker). He was unwilling to work with me on a refund and said I should have brought it in to them and they would have covered it under warranty... I highly doubt that as I gave them two other chances to do so. I told Walker to give my number to his boss and still havent heard back. I came in for a Groupon for an oil change before a road trip. They quoted me $450 for a tuneup(normally 200) and told me if I didn't get it then, it would be ok for a few more months. Untruthful. Took my car in for an oil change. Asked how long it would be. The man at the counter said there was only one person in front of me and it would be 45 minutes. Since covid is running rampant I said I'd go for a walk while they work on it. I came back over an hour later and they still hadn't got to it. He says they'd get to it soon and then it would be 30 more minutes. All I ask is that I'm truthfully told how long it will take so I can make a call on if I will be able to even get the oil changed. I go here for the cheap oil changes, which seem to be fine. I'm not sure I'll have much else done here though. I was told that the wheels on my truck could not be removed for a tire rotation because the lug nuts had "swollen" and would be damaged. They offered to put new lug nuts on for $200. I declined, went home, and removed all 24 lug nuts with the stock lug wrench with no problem. I took my Jeep in for an alignment. The tech damaged my parking brake trying to release it, and had to have a service manager show him how to do it. I had to later repair the parking brake assembly myself. Also, during the same visit, I was told that my rear brakes were not working ("you have front braking only") and would require a separate service to adjust the drums. I took the Jeep home, lifted the rear, spun the tires, applied the brakes, and they stopped on a dime. So, yeah, oil changes only here. read more

I went in because my tire pressure was low and I'd spotted a nail so I figured a tire replacement, or maybe have to replace 2 tires max to keep it balanced... The guy called me back and said he didn't see a nail but that I needed a full brake replacement because that's what was really causing the issue...the low tire pressure issue... I know next to nothing about cars and am in college but even then it sounded made up. I called my dad to see if I should just go with their suggestion and he said yeah because i'm two hours away and he didn't want to risk it but knew they were taking advantage of me. The worst. Take your car anywhere else but here. I am 55 years old and have never written a bad review. However, my experience with Midas was so bad I want to warn people so you don't have to put yourself through the hassle and stress of dealing with this business. In March of 2021 we took our 2006 Hyundai Tuscon in to be checked out to find out why the engine light kept coming on. It's now July and we've spent $3200 and 4 month trying to get straight answers and timely service only to finally get the car back with the engine light still on. On our first trip were told we needed a new catalytic converter and exhaust pipe. Price tag $1907.42. We drove off the lot only to return 5 minutes later to point out the engine light came back on. We were then told that, upon additional diagnoses we needed to replace the throttle body and air tube, oxygen sensor, and mass air flow sensor. Price tag: $1248.68. Waited another 7-10 days without a car, picked it up and less than 10 miles later the engine light went back on! Take it back to the shop where we were told that our brand new catalytic converter converter had a crack in it and they would have to replace it. Waited another 2 weeks while the part was ordered. They replaced it and again, the engine light went on again. On and on this story goes and after having the car for another 4 full weeks (no offer for a rental, no offer to compensate us) we picked up the car and the engine light is still on. When I asked for a refund so we could take the car to a place that might actually fix it I was told "absolutely not". When I explained I would have to bring a legal claim I was told. "go ahead, my wife is a lawyer". Nice. With this kind of bad business practice I guess it makes sense to have a lawyer in the family. Ask for Chris. We had a bit of miscommunication on patching a tire. The miscommunication was completely my fault, as I failed to mention that the tire I actually wanted patched was in the trunk. They ended up patching the spare. The "spare" turned out to be a legitimate Michelin Pilot with a nail in it that I had forgotten about. The tire I wanted patched was in the trunk. Not only did they patch a superior tire for me, Chris did so at no cost even after I admitted the miscommunication error was my fault and even after I insisted to pay. Chris is a good man and clearly demonstrated a high level of competency by explaining the superior quality of the Michelin. He also explained that the Bridgestone I actually wanted patched could not be patched due to the degree of damage dealt by a nail. Chris also eased my concerns of having 1 differing tire from the rest. I immediately felt the superior driving and braking performance after driving home from the shop. I highly recommend this particular Midas, and I will certainly be a returning customer. read more

PLEASE READ!!!!! If I could give negative stars, I would. I recently went in to get my oil changed. The front desk guy told me that my front brakes are literally metal to metal and that my rear brakes are almost just as bad and that I need to get them replaced ASAP. They offered to replace them for me that day and quoted me $800! I thought that was pretty weird since I haven't even heard my brakes squeak at all. They also had the balls to make me scan a QR code, and have me write them a good review lol. I declined service for my brakes and left. I also thought it was weird that they did not take me back to look at my brakes myself. I decided to look into it some more and made an appointment at Accent auto South Austin. Accent auto took my car back and 20 minutes later the guy came out and asked me who said I needed new brakes. I told them I recently went to MIDAS and they said my brakes were so bad I needed to change them ASAP. They looked at me crazy and laughed and said my brakes were perfect and that I had a few years left on my brakes! I honestly couldn't believe it, I was shocked and said, are you completely sure??! They said yes there's absolutely nothing wrong with your brakes, they lied to you. Here's your car back. Accent auto gave me my car back and didn't charge me a thing. Midas literally lied to me and were about to steal my money even though absolutely nothing was wrong with my brakes! $800 they were about to take from me even though NOTHING was wrong with my brakes! DO NOT get your car serviced here ever!! They will lie and tell you something is seriously wrong with your car and an offer to fix it same day for a crazy amount of money. Good value but there's a reason. Keep it simple because they can't take things that are a little complicated. The sales guys at the desk tend to tell you whatever you want to hear but then the story changes if you've been waiting for an hour or two. Plus they do a little scam where if you bringing a Groupon and it's $25 they tell you they give you the price of the Groupon so don't use the Groupon. But then when you go to check out the price is $30 because they charge tax. But if you were to use the Groupon it would've only been $25.. It's not a big difference but it's a difference. And then they tell you it'll be about an hour when really it's going to be about two hours. read more

Drove by just to get an oil change, was told it was going to take 45 minutes to an hour and I was ok with that. Bobby and Darius made the time pass pretty quickly with their friendly conversation in between helping other clients, when the mechanic came in after 15-20 minutes he had my oil change done and had the service consultants let me know precautionary mechanical issues that I should keep in eye on later. Bobby and Darius helped expedite the process and I was out of there way before my estimated time with a detailed evaluation of my car and oil change. DO NOT GO HERE! LIARS, SNEAK CHARGES, DISHONESTY AND DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. Every bad review is valid and people should be very cautious of this place. They blatantly price gauge their customers and become more and more hostile and irritated when you call them out on over charging or refuse to get the things fixed that they estimate. I went in for a new car battery and an alternator to be fixed. Got my car towed and they quoted me $30 for the diagnostic test to see exactly what it was and could give me a estimate from there. They called and made NO mention of having to run further tests that would require any extra cost, and quoted me a RIDICULOUSLY high estimate for the service. $1300 in total is what I was told on the phone. $360 for a battery, $650 for the alternator and $300 for labor. When I asked for an exact receipt to be emailed so I could see the break down it said $1492. i was EASILY able to find the same parts and a shop to do it for half the cost or less. I called back and told them I would not be requiring services from them and will get my car towed after paying the $30 for diagnostic. BEN (apparently the store manager) was obviously disgruntled and exacerbated over the phone when I told him. Rudely barked at me that $96 would be my total for the test. I questioned him on it he had the audacity to say that it was actually $140 and he was being nice enough to give me a discount. I explained that I had the receipt that said $30 was the cost for the test if I had gotten the repairs, and that he had made no mention of any other test being done on the phone or receipt. I asked for another exact receipt of the price breakdown of the test he was talking about and was never sent one. I got to the store to pay and explained the whole situation to two other employees as to why it should only be 30. They said yes, Bickered behind the computer for a while and still pulled up at $97 charge. When I said that we had just spoken about it being 30 they then reluctantly changed it back. ALL THAT EFFORT TO ROB ME OF MONEY WHEN THEY COULDNT BACK UP A THING THEY WERE TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR. To top it all off, I asked on the phone if my car was in the same spot and easily accessible for the tow truck to get it. I was told yes. Only to find out from my tow truck driver that when he came to get it it was boxed in by four other cars up against the sidewalk and they refused to move any of them to help him get it out . They simply told him that they guess he wouldn't be able to take it, and they are too busy to help. I've gone to this Midas for several years for oil changes, and they absolutely tried to scam me this last visit. I'm so disappointed because in the past, service has always been fine. I called after going to a real mechanic, who confirmed my suspicion that they were full of sh**. I spoke to someone who said they were a manager and let him know the details, and he had nothing to say. No apology, no offer to rectify, nothing. He made a blank claim that he would "look into it," but he didn't ask me for details, contact information, a date, nothing. Fortunately, I knew better than to let them do any work before getting a second opinion, and obviously I will not be back. They claimed I needed to replace the control arm completely because of a cracked rubber part that you "can't buy separately" (lie). The part is about the size of a quarter, it wasn't in need of replacement, and they wanted to charge me 1k to replace the whole arm. They also suggested replacing my breaks (still have at least a good 6 months on them), and completely replacing the brake master cylinder (entirely unnecessary). I'm not into leaving reviews, this is my first time doing so. I'm doing it to say that I was very happy with my experience. The guys were super personable and respectful. I came in for an oil change, but some considerable safety issues with my truck were also found. As a woman, I'm generally on guard at shops, wondering if I can trust what I'm being told. Tyler and Eddy showed me (pointed out) exactly what was going on and both explained the issues and what would happen if they weren't addressed. I felt completely confident that they were being straightforward, plus I was relieved that the issues were found and fixed. This is my new shop, I will be going back to them. PLUS, I needed to get to a job while the truck was being fixed, and Walker both dropped me up and picked me up - no charge. Had front brakes replaced on our car. Waited 3 hrs for this to be done. They did give a free oil change to compensate for the extra long wait. Down the road the caliper bolt came off the right front brake and screw destroyed our rim as we were on a highway driving fast. Called Midas after the dealer in another state explained to us what happened. Dealer said and several other local mechanics stated that the company who replaced the brakes probably didn't torque the bolt to spec. Also stated was it can come loose after 10 miles or 100,000 miles. These mechanics said if they had done the brakes they would make it right and cover the expenses incurred. We had to replace the rim and bolt plus hotel for 2 nights and other expenses while we waited for parts to come in. I have called Midas several times and talked with the manager on duty and requested to speak with a GM or District manager. I was told my number would be given to them and they would call me. I'm still waiting after several weeks. Seems as though they do not stand by their Gold Stand of Care. VERY disappointed. read more
