Never go there!!! they are bunch of overweight computer geeks who don't know what they are doing, i payed them good money to put together a computer for me, with multiple processors and a lot of ram, i had to take back there 5 times because they couldn't do it right, and still the computer doesn't work well at all, it shuts down on me in the middle of things telling me some hardware is not installed correctly, i paid a lot of money to those people thinking they know what they are doing, but they don't, i strongly recommend not ever dealing with them, i couldn't say costumer service was any good either. read more

I have mixed fillings about this place. If you compare it to bestbuy or something similar it's definitely more affordable and selection is better at least in the store but on the other hand couple of times I bought products that didn't work. I have a feeling like someone just returned a broken item and they put it right back on the shelf. I wouldn't have a problem with this but the problem is I bought an el. photo frame as a gift and when I gave it to a cousin it didn't work. Really embarrassing. I returned it with no problems but it was awkward. They should just inspect returned item more closely. read more

This is about the extended warranty : DO NOT BUY IT ON ANYTHING It's not the fault of the store, but the warranty is through a 3rd party which means when there is real malfunction YOU ARE SCREWED. I bought a laptop Sony ($2000+) and the warranty ($400+) to cover anything for 3 years even coffee spills. The computer mother F$%^#% board died and it has been 6 weeks and I do not have it back nor a replacement. And I discovered if I would have bought the warranty from Sony they would have Guarantee an overnight service. So next Stop is the better business bureau. read more

I have been coming to this place for as long as I can remember. For the life of me I cant figure out why they haven't figured out how to properly staff the front end, and is ALWAYS a 30 min wait to checkout on weekends. I think the management is really poor, and the entry level staff has absolutely no idea about even the most basic questions. Their customer service is non existant. I couldn't even get to talk to anyone from customer relations at the corporate office. I turned my computer in to the Elston location on October 11 for repair. Today is November 1 and I still have not been able to get anyone to contact me regarding the status of my desk top. The technician, C, told reception that he called my number but some guy answerered saying that the number he called was not mine. If C is going to lie, he has to do a much better job that that. And why did C not try the number again? Did that not even enter his mind? Reception said that they would leave him a message to call me again. It never happened. I have tried calling there the last two days, but the call goes into voice mail and a recording states that the mail box is full. Not only can I not talk to a human, I can't even leave a message. I asked to have a supervisor return my call the last time I was able to speak to someone. Needless to say, it never happened. If this is happening to me, I can only assume that it is happening to others. Returning phone calls is basic customer service 101. If they can't master than, then something needs to be done, and quickly. read more

Update for previous MicroCenter review... As a follow-up to my previous review of MicroCenter, and to recognize their attempts to remedy my situation, I have revised the rating. In all fairness, the service manager did make the effort to expedite our repair. Once the parts were in, repairs were made, and we were able to pick up the repaired laptop. Additionally, since the repairs were covered under warranty, we were given a gift certificate to compensate us for our experience. Although, I would hope to never have this experience again, MicroCenter did apologize and offer some form of compensation, so we thank them for that. I can only hope that they try to improve their system. read more

I came here looking to see if I can find a discount on getting an AC adapter for my laptop. Sadly I stopped by Best Buy first and was a little amazed at the amount I was spending. After getting a recommendation from a fellow yelper I decided to check this place out on a busy Sunday afternoon. A lot of stuff in this place, a lot. However with so many things, this place can get very confusing. They do have signs, but to find what you may be looking for in a jumbled mess of cables, a little frustrating. Now.... to actually find someone to help me find what I am looking for, oh wait, three were on smoking breaks outside.... I finally hunted one down after 15 minutes of looking on my own. + 1 for having refurbished items... sadly they didn't have one for me. Since the price was just about the same from where I bought it, I just kept the one I got. I may give it a shot if I need something else for my laptop... but I won't go on a Sunday and I will bring a cup of patience just in case. read more

i apologies in advance for how long this review is... or should i call this a rant? well microcenter has good return policies.. they pretty much have anything that you may need for your computer. But other then that i have to say i hate microcenter with a passion. their game section is pretty sad looking.. and there is always a line of at least 20 ppl.. at all times. the last time i was there the man standing in front of me actually got on his phone.. called the store.. asked for the manager and told him he had been standing in line for over 15min and that if they see more then 5 ppl they should have more then just 1 register open. (which is a basic rule that i thought all stores / grocery stores etc followed.. but i guess not here) sadly it took another 8min to get someone to open another register... so either way i was in line for about 3 times as long as i was actually in the store itself shopping. now onto the dreaded "service department" earlier this year i brought my laptop in.. i had taken it to the geek squad... (what a HORRIBLE MISTAKE THAT WAS) safe to say i paid HALF of what best buy wanted to charge me here at microcenter... but the question i have to ask myself.. was it worth it?? They had my computer for over a month in a half!! no lie!! every Monday i would call them.. they would tell me that they would be getting a shipment of laptops in on Thursday.. to call them and see if it came in... and every Thursday i would call just to be told to call back the following Monday! this happen for 4 weeks straight (mind you this was after the initial 3-4 weeks of labor / mostly shipping that i knew i was going to have to wait) I'm a pretty quiet.. soft spoken person.. esp w strangers... and esp over the phone... I'm not one of those "nightmare" customers that people sometimes have to deal with working in a retail environment (Ive worked retail for years... i know how bad people can be) but by week 4 (REALLY WEEK 6) i was LIVID... because not only did they NEVER CALL ME WITH AN UPDATE ON MY LAPTOP, it seemed to me that no one there ever knew anything at all about what was going on (-- what the hell do they get paid for??!?!?!?!?!?! -- i though).. one day i finally went off on 2 of the "service reps" over the phone.. and had to be transfer to a manager who was able to actually have a conversation with me, and understood why i was so upset... he didn't just respond with "Uhmmm.. well i cant tell you, and exact date" or " I'll email the technicians and call you later" --- which EVERY SINGLE ASSOCIATE THERE SAID THEY'D DO --- but never actually did. I had the Manager promise to call me with some kind of an update everyday until my laptop was there... its safe to say that within 3 days i had my laptop working and back in my hands... if i had known all i needed to do was yell at and get into an argument w/ 2 associate and get transferred to the manager to get my laptop back to me i would have done it weeks earlier and wouldn't have had to wait that whole extra month. word of warning.. its cheaper to get your comp fixed here... but be prepared to have it take over a month to get done. (and honestly if they had just told me "yeah it'll take a month"... i wouldn't have been so mad.. its when they tell you every 3 days that its going to be "another 5 days" that even a quiet person like me can get crazy hulk angry. yes i said HULK angry... i was really mad... read more

Came here hoping they could diagnose an issue with my MacBook. After running tests, they couldn't figure out what was causing it, so I picked up my laptop and made an appointment at the Apple Store. No problem, they even refunded what I had paid for the diagnostics. Then, I get home and turn on the laptop to find that they had definitely damaged it! The battery sensor would not register that the computer was plugged into the power adaptor, and the fan was running extremely loudly--neither of which had been happening when I dropped the thing off! I am absolutely livid. Opted to come here over the Apple Store because it was cheaper--now I see why. read more

My search for a new chromebook started on my way home from work heading north on Elston so Best Buy was my first stop. After feeling bummed out by their small selection and kinda lazy (sorry) customer service I decided to put the rubber to the pavement and continue on my way. Then, like a shimmering beacon of hope, the faint glow of the Micro Center storefront appeared on the horizon. Inside: the grey walls are adorned with faded portraits of tech world heroes who I can't even attempt to name, the sound system is playing the same loop of c-list radio hits which is also in rotation at your local Good Will, and the sales associates are running around in pleated khakis and button-ups with ties. It is the perfect level of dorkiness. A disarming amount of charming geekiness is what makes Micro Center the best place to shop. You get the feeling that this is where the guys who work at Best Buy go when they need help with a tech issue. I wandered into the laptop area in the back of the store, and poked around for a while before I was approached by an associate. He introduced himself as Dave, one of the managers, and he wanted to know what I needed help with so he could get the right sales person to me. Told him my story.. what specs I was looking for in a chromebook, what I intended to use it for, and what I wanted to spend. He went on to tell me "I'm no specialist in these things but I'll fill you in on what I can while we wait for someone who is." Of course the dude knew everything. He showed me a list of every chromebook they had in the store, and comparing stats he helped me trim the list down to two or three different options. The staff there has always proven themselves to be super knowledgeable and friendly, and it works. I left the store with the unit which I'm writing this review on and I'm definitely happy with my experience and purchase. This was my second time shopping with Micro Center, and both times it's been obvious that they try harder than other big box stores to make sure you leave the store as a satisfied customer. Oh man. These guys are the best. It was my first time building a computer and I messed it up pretty bad. I had to replace the cpu twice and the mobo once (the mobo was definitely the issue, but I replaced the cpu as well to be sure.) They didn't charge me for any exchanges even though 1. The processor was bought outside the 15 day limit 2. The mobo had bent pins. Additionally their deals on processors and graphics cards are great. I got both way under what pcpartpicker listed as the best price. Excellent customer service. My only complaint is that shopping online you don't have to pay tax so the price about evens out (still a deal) but the added customer service makes this place a great choice. I would highly recommend buying your CPU, Graphics Card, and SSD from them. The ram prices aren't great, and I can't say how their mobo case psu prices match, but no one will give you grief if you are comparing online (use pcpartpicker the added compatibility check helps) while you browse. That being said the parts team can tell you without looking it up what's compatible. Excellent team, excellent prices, excellent customer service. Shop here! read more

I had my hard drive for my business computer crash. I took it into Micro Center and I was able to work with Syed Hussain. He truly went above and beyond to get me going! He was able to help me pick out a new hard drive - install the operating system and even get it installed back into my computer. I was back up and running the same day! I created a Yelp account only to write this review after the awful customer service I received. I called in requesting a replacement battery for my MacBook Pro, the woman from the apple section of the store confirmed three units were in stock (after taking my model number). I drove an hour from the suburbs and to my surprise the gentleman behind the counter said they don't carry the battery. I walked back to the apple department and asked the woman to double check if the battery was in stock, she did find it previously. Her exact response was, "We don't have it, what do you want me to do about it" in a smart aleck tone, she seemed surprised that I had the nerve to ask her to double check (which she didn't do). No apology needed for the two hour driving inconvenience, but how about doing your JOB the right way the first time. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMENDED USING THIS STORE FOR ANYTHING. read more

Was trying to buy some xerxo paper (2 boxes = 20 packs) from Micro Center. The customer rep working in the middle section was friendly and helpful. He also helped me put the 2 boxes in the cart. However when I got to the cash register, the cashier told me that I could only purchase 1 box. Then I said that the advertisement on the sign next to the papers didn't say anything about a limited of purchase. Her reply was the manager runs the store and he can change the advisement how ever he wants. I felt that was rude and decided not to say anything more. Finally, I told my wife, who was waiting outside the car, to go inside to purchase another box. In conclusion, I feel like the people working there don't know about the store's sale at all or either there were not communications among themselves. Some of them clearly shouldn't be working as a customer representative. Also please advertise more clearly. read more

I've been here several times. Mostly it was browsing, other times picking up small things such as keyboards, mice, monitors, blank CDS, etc. Recently for Christmas, my fiance had wanted an IPad Mini so I had searched 15 plus stores for one before coming here. I was so relieved they had the 32 gig Ipad Mini in White...which is what she wanted. Upon going to the Apple section of the store, I had asked them if they had any and the clerk behind the counter just gave me a dead stare and answered: "Yeah we have them, but they're in white only and the 32 gig", in which him and what I thought was another customer at the time started talking again...which I then realized was just his friend as they were talking about things out of work. They were then talking about how bad the IPad Mini is and how the sound quality isn't superior to that of XYZ product. I had interrupted their "interesting" conversation telling the clerk that I'm interested in purchasing that IPAD Mini. He then tells me the price, and I tell him that's fine in which he sighs and starts grunting. He then asks if I want their in store warranty, in which I tell him I would prefer to just stay with the Apple Warranty (as I've used the Apple Warranty before and haven't had any issues with it!). His friend tries to butt in and tells me the warranty is great and only for an extra 100 dollars it's an investment. I just tell them to give me the sheet so I can have rung up and get this taken care of. I go to the front end with the sales sheet, in which the line is huge... at least 15 people are waiting and there's only 2 cashiers and around 7-8 sales people walking the floor! Put them to work! Anyway, I finally get up to the cashier, and I have some giftcards I'd like to use before putting it on my credit card. She didn't how to process gift cards..and her name tag states she's been there for 5 or so years. So she then calls the assistant manager who has to think about it for a moment then gets it processed. Overall, I love the products that are in the store, but the customer service is horrible. read more

The tech was able to get me those documents onto a flash drive day-of service, and then complete a full backup of my hard drive overnight. outstanding service. prompt. polite. I shopped at the Micro Center in Chicago for a new laptop. I was helped by Scott who was excellent and rather helpful. I even bought the protection plan, which I never do. However, when I got home, I had an issue upgrading my laptop from Windows 8.1 to 10, so I brought it back to the store the very next day. Windows 10 would download but kept reverting back to 8.1 after rebooting. Though I had only purchased the laptop the day prior AND the $60 protection plan, I was told I would need to use my one free "re-imaging" allowance. I would imagine that this issue is an easy fix, and it came with the laptop I was sold. Basic customer service would dictate, "Hey, I should not have sold you something that didn't work, so I'll check it out and we'll do what we can to fix it." I should have none of my plan benefits taken from me, as the product came with an issue out of the box. Instead of just checking it out, which I imagine would have cost the business next to nothing, you lost the $415 sale and a customer. read more

I have always enjoyed shopping at MicroCenter- have bought a few refurbished pcs from them with no issues. My focus lies with their technical support department. On NYE I took my laptop to them for a small issue: the charge station needed soldering as it has become loose during a fall and wouldn't accept a charge. That was it. No other issue. After paying 40 dollars for them to take a look at it, their 'experts' decided that everything under the sun was wrong with my laptop and tried to charge me nearly 600 dollars to fix it. It was like they weren't even listening to me when I dropped it off. I don't feel like they cared or perhaps because I am a woman, dismissed me altogether. I received numerous voice mails about their reasons why the laptop wouldn't turn on, which meant they hadn't done any real diagnostic work, NOR did they listen to me when I explained that the reason it wouldn't turn on is because it can't CHARGE the battery. I came back and took my poor laptop to a local guy in Rogers Park (Quest, look them up) and they were patient, listened to me and fixed the actual problem. Took a week and got my laptop back just yesterday, working perfectly. Their fee? 100 dollars. Beware: Do not suffer the experts of MicroCenter's so called tech department. They're only interested in increasing ticket sales and not offering quality service. They're like seedy car mechanics. read more

I'm not some kid that builds computers but an IT professional for 20+ years. I usually go to MicroCenter as a first choice when purchasing computers, peripherals, accessories, supplies etc.. I purchased a tablet online and went to pick it up at the store. That process was relatively painless other than dropping down $$$ on a tablet of course. On the site they listed a number of accessories for it, 9 different styles of cases with a total inventory of 18 cases for this store (according the website). I wanted to pick between the various cases and see which one was best for my needs so I didn't order one online rather just look at them in person. The isle that had the cases was in total shambles, there was no organization by company, type of case, or models they fit, there was tons of empty pegs with no labels or tags indicating what the products are where they should be. After looking around for 10 minutes and not finding a single case I asked a "worker" there and he told me that there was no order to the inventory and basically told me to look around for what I need and didn't offer any assistance. After telling him how lame that was, I walked away and kept looking, spent another 20 minutes looking around and found one dirty case light gray case that wasn't hanging up it was on the floor. I noticed that there were bins on the top shelf of the isles which amazingly had more product in them than was on the shelves. After going through some of these bins and still not finding anything I just got more frustrated and decided to leave. I told a manager my experience when I walked out but really why bother, if they cared they would notice things like this rather than have a flea market approach to selling items. I needed to get a spare charger, micro SD memory, extra cables, case, screen protector etc.. Do the math these are inexpensive items that combined would come out to a good amount of money at a high profit margin vs the initial tablet sale at a lower profit margin. Its not even an issue of customer service (which is the whole reason of going to a B&M store vs shopping online) but how about setting things up so you can sell product. It would probably take about 8 hours of time to do a proper inventory and reset of that section and add a small selection of additional items like chargers, cables, memory to those isles. If 4 customers were able to purchase accessories for their tablets that would pay for the time to reset the isle. It's a very interesting business model when you sell an expensive and fragile product like a tablet and don't want your customers to purchase a case / accessories for it. Luckily I have time to go to TigerDirect to buy my accessories there before I go on vacation. If I want flea markets I will go to Rosemont on Sundays, if I want computer hardware / etc.. I will go to Tiger Direct now. read more

Microcenter reminds me of Comcast in that their employees try to do their best with the tools and processes corporate has provided to them. Every sales person was helpful and knowledgeable. Getting someone on the phone at this store is next to impossible and it caused some issues when trying to return stuff. read more

I said no thanks, brought it to Tiger Direct, and they go the data off for more like $60. I had a horrible experience with Micro Center. I bought a Dell laptop from Micro Center, and the computer has a problem. I took it back to Micro Center for repair, and they said they fixed it, but the problem reoccurred. After complaining, Micro Center returned the fee for repair, but the computer is still messed up. I wanted to get the computer repaired through my credit card's extend warranty, but to do so, I needed a copy of the original warranty. Dell said I had to get it from Micro Center, and Micro Center's customer service person has never responded to my request despite repeated attempts to get it. (The customer service person did say she didn't think I needed it, despite my telling her that the credit card company required it. And this customer service person was assigned to fix the matter by the company's CEO after I wrote to him!) I'm now stuck with a bad computer. My experience leads me to believe Micro Center's repair facility and customer service are terrible. I am very sorry I ever bought a computer at Micro Center. read more

I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard combo last weekend. I wasn't sure what to look for but a young man was able to recommend a Logitech combo and it's working extremely well. Parking was okay but the checkout time was a little slower than I would have liked. Overall, though, I'd frequent this store again. read more
