You would think that a craft store that has such amazing stuff, would try training their front end staff to move quicker so that customers can get in and out of the store quickly. It appears that the Michael's doesn't care how long you have to wait. I think every time I go and I end up waiting 20 minutes in line. I don't know why there are so many horrible reviews for this place; compared to some of the other Michael's stores I have visited this one isn't that bad. Yes, the aisles are a little small and it may feel a little cramped there. But the aisles are also properly labeled and I have had no issues trying to locate items needed for my projects. I haven't had any run ins with any nasty employees, and the people at the cashier stands are usually easy-going and happy; although thinking about my trips I haven't seen too many associates out on the floors, and when I do they are usually helping someone else out. Came here last night at 9pm in a mad rush to pick up some last supplies, before I got my gift wrapping grove on. Jeez... was this place empty, it looked like a chicken that had lost all it's feathers. I suppose that's my fault for waiting till the last minute to find things. I hate Michael's during any holiday because they move everything around, and you can't find anyone to help you because they're too busy trying to re-organize the crap that everyone just left laying around. Thank god their open longer during the holidays or I wouldn't have found anything. 2 hours later I was able to find almost everything that I needed and a few things I decided to compromise on, because I was not coming back here again... Not this year at least. I decide to get in line and of course I had to grab things that were not registered in the computer, or had price tags on them. After about 20 min. I decided to speak up after being ever so patient... "eeehhhuuumm, you can keep it, I don't need it that bad" and her response... "Well then why did you put it in your basket?" I had 2 options at this point, I could of told her where to put it, or just politely ignored her comment and assume that she had a rough day... I used to come here a lot when I was little, but now its gotten worse and worse- dirtier and dirtier. I recommend the Michaels at the District if you want to visit. It's cleaner. I needed a custom frame for some artwork and Valentine went out of her way to help me select an appropriate frame. Christine explained the whole process of framing and made me feel secure they would do things properly to preserve the artwork. Michelle was very kind when I picked up the completed work. I asked her advice on another already framed piece of artwork and came up with an easy solution that she completed for me. It's weird but this is the only Michaels I actually enjoy coming too, it might be because it's close to home or I've been shopping at it for way too many years. But it seriously always has everything I ever need. I have tried going to other locations and it's just not the same, the layouts are weird. Any who, the staff here knows me and they are always so happy and smiley. I love chatting with them at the register and getting to know them and they me. It's a win win. I craft a lot so I am here on average about 4-5 times a week. I always need something, kind of like target! If you aren't on the rewards program get on it, I have told everyone about it and most of my friends have it. A few weeks ago I even helped a few strangers while at the store download the app for coupons. Went to Michael's on Irvine Blvd, Tustin thinking I was going to get the same customer service I always receive from the Michael's in Orange. Well that was a big mistake. I went in and received no kind of salutations instead the woman just turned her head the other way. My daughter n me walked around for a bit. No one bothered to ask if I needed anything. I panic every time I need to go to Michael's because I know I am going to be overwhelmed with the selection, not find what I need and not find anyone to help me find what I need. Then, the cashier will mentally bitch slap me for no good reason other than maybe those pungent cinnamon brooms they keep up at the checkout counter have finally gotten to her. I truly enjoy the layout, but I agree with most of the reviews that this store is cramped. I feel it's small compared to the Orange store and the stores back in Arizona. Over all the employees were friendly and asked if i needed assistance. The line to check out grew quickly and I was witness to the previous warnings of how bad the check out gets. I only go to this store because of the convenient location. Whenever my creative juices start flowing, I hop in my car and drive straight here. It's so easy to get lost in your own world once you enter the store. I remember one time I had to just buy one item and I ended up staying there for more than an hour and forgetting what I actually came in there for! Their staff is okay. So far I never had any issues unlike the other Yelpers. But if you want to be helped, just go straight to the counter to find someone. I've been going to this Michaels for yearssss! And never had I once had a problem with any employee until today. The employee RALPH was rushing me and being so rude extremely rude. It ruined my years of experience. I took a friend there for the first time at my location. I was so embarrassed. RALPH definitely needs to be re-trained in his customer service. If you're having a bad day or a problem it shouldn't be transferred onto your customers. I worked retail for 8 years so I know a thing or 2 about what I'm talking. A big fan of Arts and Crafts, I'm always on the hunt for arts and craft stores. Located in The District at Tustin, this Michael's is pretty good compared to the others I've been to. This one is neatly organized and the aisles are easy to shop. My friend and I are throwing a Holiday party and needed to get some supplies. We found so goodies here! There is one downfall to my visit. The temperature in the store was really warm. I'm not sure if I was excited or what but I seriously almost passed out. It was so hot!! read more

The store is filled with florals, great projects, a wedding section and the staff is very helpful with giving ideas and making suggestions to the non-creative shopper. The employees were attentive and helpful in designing my frame and matting everyone in the store was helpful and seemed to be happy to help you. I came here since they had a discount off your entire purchase coupon. Fortunately for my friend, it was honored. This location has a similar layout and appearance to the branch in the District, but the ceiling is lower and made us more claustrophobic. Their aisles also seem a little bit narrower/shorter since I didn't see as many clearance stickers per sticker aisle. Unlike the District branch, when we pushed the help button, the staff helped us immediately and even helped us check other branches if the out-of-stock item we were looking for was at other branches, although it wasn't in stock anywhere around here and was on backorder. Also, unlike the District branch, they don't have the system where the TV above the cash registers will beep and tell people to go to a specific cash register (not that I like that system anyway, I prefer some kind of clearly designated line). Their customer service desk is also a checkout, so we were not sure whether to get in it as a separate line or not, but they let us check out at the customer service desk anyway. Parking in this plaza is excellent. There's almost no one here, but also not as many staff members manning checkout counters. read more

I was in this store about a week ago, and there was THE rudest employee there! I am so disappointed. I asked this woman where something was that I was looking for, and she rolled her eyes, and then reluctantly pointed across the store at the aisle it would supposedly be on, and stormed off. Her name started with a "J"...Joan or something short like that...and I remember she had a small tatoo on her wrist. She had to be a manager, because a little while later, while I was still struggling to locate the item (due to her refusing to take a second to walk me over to it, or at least give me an aisle number), she berated and yelled and at one of her employees right in front of me, for what seemed to me to be no reason. She pretty much called them an idiot for asking a simple question. I also heard her snap at another employee shortly after that. I was disgusted with this woman's disrespect for not only me as a customer, but also the cruelty shown to her own team members. You could tell this particular employee she yelled so harshly at was so humiliated, and I felt so badly for them, as I can't even imagine how any employee would be able to work there with a manager like this. Due to how uncomfortable this woman made me, despite the long list of items I came to shop for, I left, as I refuse to give business to a company that employs such a heartless, unappreciative manager. I haven't been to this Michael's for a year or so, but have been shopping there for decades, and I have always encountered pleasant staff in the past, so I was sad to see how much this store has changed over this time. - Locale Destination - It's on Irvine Blvd and between Elizabeth Way and Charloma Dr in Tustin. It's in a shopping plaza (on the left side). The decor - simple yet I can't deny it is outdated despite of their frequent additions of new products. They should freshen it up a bit. The staff are always awesome! When you signed up their online thing by providing your email, you get coupons a lot for good deals, though I've never been into those. It allows you not to bring the paper coupons - you just need to show the deal from your smart phone. They often offer the art&craft classes on the spot. They have a little room for it. Check them out on their site. Their website has full of cool crafty ideas, too! They have lots of their own brand cool stuff. You just need to come here and see them! The price isn't bad and you see "sales" a lot. Too many items but something I can think of: Vases: Lots of shapes and sizes. Cheap. Dry flowers: Plenty and various. Not my thing. Woods: Oh yeah. All kinds. Beads: Anything for your craft work. Art supplies: Various and tons. They're well organized. Paints, papers, pens, glues, you name it! Stickers: So many cool stuff. Stamps: From big to small. Stencils: Tons. Martha Stewart is genius ;p Wrapping tools: ribbons, pins, tapes, boxes, bags, tins etc. T-shirt making stuff: I'm not into it, but they do have those. Baking: Surprisingly you find various products. Decors: seashells, burns, candles, you name it. Frames: They often offer a big 40% off sale. Display boxes to Frames. Great. They don't have many matt boards unfortunatelly. But you can bring those from someone else and they can cut it for you ($0.50/cut). Those matt board cutter is expensive and big, so it's a great deal they can do it for you. I love it. Kitchen tools: They sometimes have "oxox" stuff for sale! I got a 40% off deal! I'm a frequent loyal customer for Michael's because they are so AWESOME!! They always have so many cool stuff - it's a PARADISE for art and craft lovers like me. I'm not a candy lover, but coming here is like a "kid's coming to the candy store". My eyes sparkle, and my heart beats faster than usual due to the excitement this shop gives me.. They always inspire my creativity and curiosity and push me to express my artistic talent (if I had ;p I just love those handy works, though I don't draw). I rarely get out from here with empty handed. Even if you weren't into arts, you can find tons of cool stuff - decor pieces, stationaries, stickers, you name it! The prices aren't bad, either. Though all the stores look so outdated, you see new stuff here and there quite often. The staff know where the items are located and guide you into the right aisle no time - out of gazillions of their product line. They always amaze me how knowledgeable and helpful they are. Went to pick up an online order, I forgot my ID but had both my email confirmation (with no one else listed to pick up but me) and my debit card with my name on it. Some snippy employee who ignored me for 8 minutes while having a conversation with another employee about her "wild weekend", told me I wasn't "ME", even with the email (placing the order and ready for pick up), my card with the same name AND offering to show her my college student portal which also displays THE SAME NAME ON IT in order to pick up my school supplies. I took the bus here I can't just run back home in 5 minutes. She then smugly helps someone else behind me and says very loudly "Oh great you have YOUR ID". I was there w my cousin and she asked for some assistance but these useless cows act like they were in a hurry to close the store to help. Had similar experience with inaccurate prices and rude managers at the Tustin District location earlier so came to the Irvine Blvd. Michaels hopeful that they would be better at it... Big let down! Crammed store, too few associates, rude managers and inaccurate sale signs are just a few things that are enough to put one off... Permanently. I like their merchandise but too many negative experiences are just not worth it. The Sale signs on the shelves say the particular products are 30%, 40% or 50% off (or whatever the advertised deal is), but the items don't ring up for the advertised sale prices... You let the cashiers know that the item was on sale for 40% off... If they manually enter that in, then the system for whatever reason doesn't want to apply the overall 25% off your regular and sales items. If you question that they give you a demeaning look and say "but you already got the 40% off!!" .... Are they stupid or what???? Isn't the coupon saying 25% off regular and sales items mean that you get 25% off your total cost of these items? Why else is the term "sale items" mentioned on that discount coupon? I was repeatedly told that a second discount can't be applied to an item, ie if I already got the advertised sales price of 40% off (and I am not talking about using a one time 40% coupon but the advertised sales price across the board for those items), I shouldn't expect the additional 25% to be applied!!!! Hello, Michaels employees and managers, either understand what your store is advertising, or listen to the customers trying to get the point across!!!! The managers at both these locations have a bad attitude problem... They talk down to you as if you are stupid or plain trying to cheat them when all you're doing is trying to get the price that was advertised!!!! I had bought a lot of merchandise this weekend, totalling over $200, hoping I could avail the 25% discount but was in for a stressful, overwhelming and demeaning experience... Went over the receipt at home and discovered how much they had overcharged me, spent an hour figuring out what was gong on, was even charged twice for the same items!!! What a headache!!!! However was hopeful that the employees would see the wrong doings on the receipt and rectify their mistakes. I had to shelve my other plans the next morning, and drove back .... BUT WAS RUDELY SPOKEN TO BY THE MANAGERS, HARASSED, ARGUED WITH.... AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF OF GOING BACK AND FORTH, STILL NO RESOLUTION IN SIGHT, JUST GAVE UP AND LEFT WITHOUT GETTING THE 25% off. What was so frustrating was that the items I had bought just the previous evening, would not even come up on the system and the associate would just look at me blankly saying she could not bring it up!!!! Is that the customer's fault? ... If your sales prices don't show up correctly on your system and as a result it cannot take off the advertised 25% off, is that the customer's fault? Apparently it is because i was made to pay for it. Will be returning the stuff!!! A waste of my time and energy not to mention demeaning, stressful and totally negative. DO NOT SHOP HERE OR THE TUSTIN DISTRICT LOCATION AS THEY DO NOT CHARGE YOU THE FAIR AMOUNT. That has all gone down the drain. People are basically there to take your money. You might as well put a self checkout and get the same level of service. Love Michael's overall as a chain. Fine prices and good selection of goods but this specific location is absolutely terrible especially in terms of customer service, convenience, and Cashiers. They have barely enough staff to handle the small groups in here at any given time. I've rarely seen more than one register open and more rarely see more than two employees anywhere to help out on the floor or who realize the slow cashier system requires more than one person for the giant location. This review is specifically regarding this location's framing department. I was working on putting together a collection of framed photographs for a birthday present. Just before trying Michael's I went to a custom framing store in Tustin and was quoted well over $300 for three custom frames (4 photos, 2 in one frame) and matting, and I was really unhappy with the selection and service I was given. Upon arriving at this Michael's location, I quickly browsed their large selection of already-assembled frames and received assistance from Nichole from the framing department. I showed Nichole the photographs that I wanted to frame and the budget I had in mind, and immediately she put together a custom collection of michael's frames and custom matting that came out to less than $160-$170, and this was for 5 photographs, all in separate frames. Although each frame was not custom (I purchased already-assembled frames to save on time and cost), Nichole did go over a lot of options for custom matting and she was very specific about what kinds of framing/matting would go along with each photo. I really appreciated her thoroughness, patience, and professionalism, which was definitely not what I received at the previous framing store I visited. I also emphasized that this was a birthday gift and that if possible they could be finished by Friday (I put the order in on a Monday). By Wednesday evening I received a call that they were ready for pickup. The worst (and best) part, however, was that on closer examination of the finished frames on Thursday night, I realized that I totally messed up one of the frames by giving them the wrong photo to frame. The next day I went back in and they took the frame immediately and told me they could switch out the photo and redo the backing for around $8. So, needless to say, by the following Monday, I had all gorgeous finished frames, proper photos and all. I will definitely be back. read more

There are never enough check-out employees so there is almost always a line. I had something custom framed. The person that worked that counter was very helpful and pleasant. Then someone else took over the order. Somehow things got mixed up. The frame I ended up with at considerable cost was not what I ordered. I didn't realize that until I got home. It is my word against theirs, and they are not going to redo the frame for me. I'm not happy with the mediocre frame that I got, and have no idea how that particular one ended up on the painting. If you order custom framing, take a picture of the frame sample you want so you can prove to them, if they make a mistake, that they didn't give you what you paid for. I wish I had done that. I waited a long time to frame this painting because of the cost, and now I look at it and really dislike the look. read more
