This Michaels is terrible. We came in at 6:55 tonight and asked to get balloons filled. The worker at the register (lady with gray hair and glasses) said "well that's going to be hard to do because we are doing inventory tonight" and refused to sell us balloons! This makes us sad, as we have a child's birthday tomorrow morning and Michael's is one of the only places around who sells balloons. We will have to find a new place to shop for balloons and party supplies. read more

Horrible customer service. Correction, no customer service. They have a lazy sloppy cashier/manager who stands up by registers and watches everyone struggle as they self check out and have difficulty with the self checkout equipment. They can stand up there and watch you so you don't steal but they sure can't ring up your merchandise for you... what a joke this place is. I will never return to Michael's at the Promenade. Terrible. I don't know if I'll ever shop at Michael's again because of this horrible experience and the rudeness of this so-called manager watching everyone so they don't steal anything, but not doing a damn thing to help people. The employees are nice and will help you but the manager Saree needs training on customer service. It is rude to say she'll call when products arrive and doesn't and then when you go to return $375 of defective items that should never be sold to a customer, she brushes it off like a hassle and runs off. 0 customer service, lazy and disrespectful staff at the Promenade Scottsdale store. On Friday, 5/30 around 6:30PM, I came to this location to purchase a large enclosed glass display case with a mirrored bottom. As I approached checkout to purchase the item, I asked the store associate for help checking out since it is a large and fragile item. The heavyset woman with blue hair, glasses, and a face mask covering just pointed me to the self checkout. I start my purchase at self checkout, put in my coupon, then realize she's pointed me to the credit card only machine and I am paying with cash. I have to cancel and begin again at a different machine and now three other customers have already come and gone before me. Once I complete payment at the correct machine, I ask the associate (who is standing a few feet behind me just watching from afar) how am I able to wrap and bag this item since it is both large and fragile and there is no foam or paper wrap in the self checkout area for customers. She begrudgingly walks behind the counter and pulls off a single piece of foam and handed it to me. I lay it over the top and am left confused as it's obviously not enough to cover the item. She rudely asks me "well, how much do you need?" I said to her "I don't know, how much do I need? Can I speak to your supervisor or manager?" With more attitude she calls over her supervisor on her walkie talkie. The supervisor now comes over and I have two pieces of foam loosely over the item and begin to tell her my poor customer service experience with the associate and point to the item asking for a bag large enough. Now the supervisor rudely points to the larger bags that are placed to the bottom right of the checkout and tells me "we would've helped bag your item if you had asked nicely". The first thing I did was politely ask the associate for assistance checking out. I was carrying a large glass item in my hands and it's common knowledge for sales associates to properly wrap a fragile item for a customer. The reluctant and rude attitude from the associate and her supervisor made me feel like I was a nuisance asking for a basic courtesy at a retail store. Please also note, this display case is a gift for my father to protect and memorize my brother's ball collection who recently and unexpectedly passed away, I am not going to just throw this $129 piece into my car trunk carelessly. I work in customer service and have for several years, the attitude, laziness, and lack of respect from both of these team members was completely appalling. I will never return to this location, a store I have frequented countless times for well over a decade. read more

Will never shop at this location and honestly, my experience has turned me off of Michael's all together. I spent about 30 minutes in the store with my two young children, up and down the aisles twice, picking out things for a school project for my elementary aged daughter, as well as a few other craft supplies and such. The only employee we encountered was a woman who rudely pointed us in the direction of the bathroom when my daughter needed to use it. We get to the checkout and there's one cashier helping one customer and another one chatting with another employee. No acknowledgement from anyone, so I walk up to a self checkout (they were all open) and it has a strange message on it. I look over to the two employees chatting and one goes "oh, yeah the self checkouts don't work. Actually our system is down so we can only accept cash." No announcement over the intercom. No signs, no one alerting people in the store (in fact, no employees speaking to customers at all), and not even an acknowledgment from two employees who saw me in the checkout line (I was the only one). Not even a "hey, sorry for the inconvenience, there's an ATM down the street." I either got rude looks or silence from anyone who worked there, and I wasn't even saying anything. I picked my kids up (crying at this point, because they were excited about what we thought we were buying), and promptly walked out. I don't expect anything near perfection from underpaid retail workers, but these were all adults (not high schoolers in their first job) and no one seemed to care one iota. read more

AMAZING frame job on the Beatles and Star Wars collage by Steve S. I have visited multiple framers over the past few years on the north side of Phoenix/Scottsdale (6 total) and Steve S is the best custom framer. These collages are close to 5 feet by 4-5 feet and they look amazing. The Beatles collage had 44 items with multiple signatures and the Star Wars had 10 items with signatures. I first used the custom framing here about 3 or 4 years and they were awesome. We just used them again and the staff has completely changed and frankly not a good experience. I visit a Michael's store no less than every other week since I adore DIY and crafts. I prefer Michael's pricing and options over Joann's as a general rule. This particular location has ups and downs. Pros: Great selection of items Good, clean clearance section (one time it was a touch disheveled, but on the whole it's clean) Always good deals running Mobile app always has coupons running Cons: Staff wasn't friendly when asked for help around the store (got huffed at and an eye roll when I asked if they had shoe clip blanks by the MANAGER - bummer, usually staff is nice at other locations) Some pricing can be hard to locate - a few of their displays place the hanging products directly in front of the price tag, so you would have to remove all items on that hanger to see the price in the back (mostly in bead section) Had to knock two stars for the rude service and one star for the lack of pricing availability (certainly wasn't asking that same MANAGER) - but the cashier was super sweet, so that really helped bring this place back up a star, so kudos to her. Next time I'll ask front end staff where things are and not the manager. read more

This is how I like my Michael's-- huge with lots of selection. I was staying with friends and needed an extra shadow box for a flower project I was doing. I was able to locate one quickly with the help of an associate and purchased it on sale for $6.00. I was in and out quickly with no lines and left as one happy customer. We even parked in one of the coveted spots with tree shade. In the blazing heat of Arizona, (around 110 degrees when I was there) a shaded parking spot makes all the difference. read more

This review is specifically for Sierra! She's is GREAT. I had a ton of items to price match on a Friday night & she was super accommodating and very friendly! Not many employees actually know about Michaels price match policy so she did have to radio in about that (which I am very used to) but after she got the go ahead, she was incredible & was very patient with me and all my items! She was awesome and I only wish she was my cashier every time I checked out! P.S. If you are going to be price matching items, and this goes for any Michaels, always have the ads ready and in order of the items they are scanning! It helps them a ton!! read more

Full disclosure, I am not a crafter so I don't spend a lot of time in stores like this. I actually feel they are a bit overwhelming with their shelves stacked to the ceiling. But when I do need a little something for a project, this is my go to store. The staff is very helpful and I am able to get in and out quickly, something I like. Wondering around the aisles looking at things I would never use isn't my idea of a good time. I do feel the silk flower department is better than Joannes. They have a beautiful selection. read more

I've been spending the month here in Scottsdale. I'm from Charlotte, NC. My sister has started getting into making bracelets and sewing, so I figured a trip to this store would be a blast. Michaels is a massive chain. Which I know everyone knows. This location in particular looked exactly like the one I go to in Charlotte. This store was very clean and well kept. We were in there for so long that a trip to the restroom was in order... the restrooms were very clean and well stocked. Very impressed. We bought a massive amount of beads, string and sewing accessories. The reason for the 4 star review is the check out process. There was only 2 employees checking out customers and the line had about 11 people in it. Check out is always slow. It's a major down fall with this company. Visited their frame shop about a week ago to seek advice on having a Navajo Rug framed. The person behind the counter who showed up with less than friendly attitude ( acting like how dare i was there & had a nerve to ask her any questions pertaining to framing) was unprofessional & was completely lacking any knowledge of framing. I am not a frequent customer at Michaels and this experience most definitely will give me a valid reason for not returning to that store at that location. After my dissapointing encounter with framing department at Michael's I went to Hall of Frame and my experience there was a polar oposite from what I just experience at Michael's. Don't be scammed by the 70% off of custom frames. I went in to have a $35 print matted and framed with the most inexpensive materials. The price came to $138 and I asked what it would be after my 70% discount, and they said it had already been applied! That would make the original price before the discount between $300 and $400!!!! So the flower selection is ok. The ashland brand they offer is pretty cheap looking but when there is a sale or clearance you can find some decent ones. The employees are great. Tabitha is very nice. Very courteous and pleasant. I do like their recollections brand of storage and organizers. They are great quality when you scoop them up on sale. I want to note, it looks like they are starting to sell and market cheap items. Little junky toys and craft kits, there is a massive row in the front of those squishy toys. Lots of cheap junk. Almost like a dollar store feel. I feel like Michaels needs something more unique to stand out. It's a mix of hobby lobby and dollar store. Nothing really exciting or amazing. read more

I went shopping at the Michael's located at 16239 N Scottsdale Rd in Scottsdale Arizona this morning. I was looking for a specific craft for my geriatric aunt. I walked into the store and thought I had lucked out right away when I saw an associate a few feet away from me. I said "excuse me, could I ask for your help?", her response was a BIG sigh with "ugh" noise, an annoyed look, and an extremely sarcastic "SUUUUURE, of COURSE" and made an overly dramatic show of putting down the items she was holding, as if I were bothering her horribly. I was totally appalled at her behavior. I apologized to her saying I wasn't trying to interrupt her activities but I needed some help finding a specific craft. She responded by ROLLING HER EYES at me and asking for the item description. At this point, I was just trying to get through my interaction with her so I could find the item but her body language and behavior were so hostile I had to stop and I asked her why she was being so rude to me. in response, she started listing how busy she was. I cut her off saying I would find someone else to help me since she was taken with other duties. I found a manager (I believe her name was Jen or Jenny) and relayed my difficulties with the previous associate. She was somewhat polite but was obviously eager to get the convo over with. She was nice enough to listen to my item description and show close examples of what was in stock to me. But I was still extremely dissatisfied with the lack of skill when it came to addressing the previous associate's HORRIBLE customer service. Jen simply offered an "I'm sorry" about the associate's behavior. I have been a loyal shopper of Michael's for years and have never had such horrible service. The store itself is excellent....if you need fake flowers, something framed, art supplies, weird craft stuff you can't find anywhere else, and just a huge supply of every kind of craft item you can imagine - Michael's is the store you want. They offer great discounts and coupons every now and then too. What drives me crazy about the store is the staff. It's not just this Michael's, it is every Michael's I've been in - a mix of dim folks operating in super slow motion and obnoxious young people who can't be bothered. If you're trying to find someone to help you - good luck. I would love to participate in one of the Michael's employee trainings. I need to know if they hire people like this on purpose or if they are turning good workers into who gives a crap workers via some process. Maybe it's as simple as they skim through good applicants and go right for the guy that showed up an hour late for the interview - I don't know. Will I continue to shop at Michael's - yes. I am absolutely dumbfounded. I shop at this Michael's at least once a week because I work four doors down and I tried to purchase these two items the other night and I was refused them. I was told they weren't authorized to be sold anymore and that they shouldn't have been on floor??? WELL THEY WERE. I kept asking and asking why and it was astonishing how they couldn't give me straight answer except that people found them offensive??? What is offensive about these Santa's? Are religious rights just that emboldened that Michael's couldn't stand up to such ridiculousness? How many people could have possibly complained??? And honestly regardless of if they should have been on the floor or not, they were, and the sale should have been overridden and honored. They were the last two Santa's, I am over 21, and absolutely not offended by these Santa's in any way, I really wanted them and I know I could have had them had they just scanned my other santa I was purchasing three times. NOT A BIG DEAL. Instead the cashier and manager were stumbling over their words with no real explanation as to why the current situation was going down. I am extremely disappointed in Michael's and the fact that they would give in to such ridiculous, ignoramus, BS. There is nothing offensive about these Santa's, Jesus HIMSELF drank wine.
