Seeking to buy a frame for a 16 by 16 photo plus other sizes. I was able to find the others, but 16 by 16 is not standard. so trying to get creative, I wanted to buy a larger frame and put matting around it. I sought the help of a lady behind the counter (with strong accent) for matting. I asked to see several matting options. She asked me if I wanted a custom framing and I said no (what I was framing was not worth the price of a custom frame). At that point she lost interest. She brought me some mats and placed them on top of the frame I had selected and told me I couldn't use the mat because it was going to cover up the photo. Really? How insulting to think that I would be stupid enough to buy a mat/frame that would cover up the photo. She needs to beef up her attitude and beef up on her customer service skills. read more

It's interesting that the 1-star ratings seem mostly centered around lousy customer service. That is exactly why I'm writing in. I purchased a pack of cardstock paper with 2 other items. When I was checking out, it dawned on me that I thought I had seen that the paper was on sale (buy 1, get 1 50% off). I asked the girl running the register if the paper was on sale, and she said, "No." I took her at her word and let her ring me up, and I used a $5 reward for the purchase. As I was about to walk out of the store, I decided to go back and look again, and there it was--a sign saying that the paper I purchased was on sale (buy 1, get 1 50% off). I took another pack with my original purchase to the register and told the girl that she was wrong and the paper was on sale. She started blaming me for asking the question when I did (which was BEFORE the transaction was completed). I then asked for the manager. She called Ruby up to the register. Ruby started making excuses for the other girl lying, instead of simply admitting that she didn't know and saying that the paper wasn't on sale. She also reiterated what the other girl said, which was that I couldn't use my $5 rewards on the new transaction and instead had to wait 3 days for it to be returned to my account. I knew Ruby had some authority to make some kind of concession, but she flat out refused and said that "we" (meaning Michaels) don't do that. Don't do what? Take care of your customers? Don't apologize for inconveniences and incorrect information? Well, I can't argue that. They definitely DON'T do that. I told Ruby to refund me for all 3 items I purchased, and I would never be setting foot inside a Michaels store again. Michaels, you lost a customer for life tonight--all over $5. You can thank Ruby for that. But I'm guessing from the other 1-star reviews that this will fall on deaf ears, since lack of customer service seems to be your company policy. I'll be calling your corporate office tomorrow and demanding to have all my personal information removed from your servers and my rewards account closed. I'll be doing 100% of my shopping from now on at Hobby Lobby. Their selection is much better, and they make it a policy to take care of their customers. Enjoy the $5 you saved tonight! When looking for the random odds and ends in the world of crafts, 9 out of 10 times I can find it at Michaels. Holiday decorations, scrap booking materials, framing, arts and crafts, ribbons, bridal gear...you name it, Michaels has got it. The pricing here is incredibly reasonable. They have several $1 specials, coupons, and sales galore. If I'm on the hunt for a new craft project, all I have to do is walk into Michaels and the ideas start flowing. The staff is always helpful. I had custom framing done online and had it shipped to this store. There was a mix up with the UPS delivery and after over an hour of the whole store looking for it, I left the store super disappointed. My picture was of my boyfriend and his dad who had recently passed away. They called me minutes after I left saying they found it. Life happens and things get misplaced but they looked for so long, and went above and beyond to ensure I received my package. After visiting my closest Michael's and cleaning out their stock of the beads I needed, I took the journey to this Michael's (after making some phone calls) to complete my project. Even after telling myself not to shop around because my beads were on hold at the front, I did anyway. I was very pleased to find that they have a HUGE selection of beads! Oh, I could spend all day here! They had stuff I hadn't seen at the other location. I found myself picking up (and putting back because I have self control) so many great things! Oh so many ideas! Went in to buy 20 t shirts to design for a family trip. The shirts were marked $3.69. When they scanned them at the register they came up $3.99. That is over a $20 difference. Johnathan,the guy in charge had to void the whole transaction. After bringing them up individually and adjusting the price to $3.69 it would not accept the 25% off coupon that we had. Called the manager again and he refused to honor the coupon even though it clearly states 25% off regularly priced items. It's not our fault they were marked incorrectly. Worst customer service EVER! I came to return some unopened paint items that I purchased for a relative to keep her spirits up when she was sick in September. She past away shortly after and upon recently finally ally cleaning out her house, I found the items still in the bag unopened. I went to return them and they refused to allow me to return the items at the price I paid, despite the receipt still being in the bag. I literally got $.50/$1.00 and they are just going to put the items back on the shelf and charge full price for them. I spoke to the male manager who couldn't care less about doing what's right. He was beyond rude and obnoxious and just kept repeating, there is nothing I can do for you. He had no intention of actually making a customer happy. With all the options of places to buy stuff these days, do yourself a favor and don't shoo-in a place that doesn't value their customers. Michaels is not the best art supply store, but it's great as a general craft store. The selection of paint, brushes, paper and drawing materials is hit-or-miss, and the prices are more expensive than an art supply store like Arizona Art Supply or Utrecht. They don't always take care in handling their inventory either; I've purcahsed Prismacolor colored pencis from Michaels, only to be disappointed by the shattered pigment (I was sharpening and sharpening and sharpening....). Paint brush selection is filled with mediocre brushes (even the "artist" kind)--they're ideal for your kids' craft projects. Canvases are RIDICULOUSLY expensive, are of poor quality and they don't sell stretcher bars or raw canvas to build your own. Yes, this is in fact a craft store--not an art supply retailer. If you're looking for kitchy, crafty items, Michaels is the place to go. They sell everything from fake flowers and plants to mosaic kits, scrapbooking materials, beads and knitting materials. They have a large selection of frames which are often on sale. These are great for the artist on a limited budget. Beware, they only carry frames of standard (i.e. not unsual) dimensions, so plan your artwork accordingly. I've never used their custom framing services. I wait for my Michael's coupons in the mail before I venture over to the store; I always find myself purchasing items or trinkets I don't need every time I shop here... read more

I was hoping to be able to give a good review for Michaels but that ain't gonna happen. I took a fine art signed print in to be framed. There was a coupon for 60% off. So I paid about $375 for a $1200 frame. Took about a week to compete. Unwrapped at home and found it had a piece of packing material between the glass and artwork. Took it back. They fixed within a hour. Took it home and noticed the artwork wasn't seated well against the matting (see pictures). I give them a "A" for effort but an "D" for execution. My experience at this location has been great overall. As for the company, they tend to be more expensive than Walmart, Amazon, and other retailers. To be fair, you can usually find a coupon on their app to get a large discount on a single item (usually 40%). I highly recommend checking their website and app for coupons or else you will pay way more than you should. They have a great selection of items here and the employees at this location are so sweet and very helpful. read more
