I gave this three stars because it is really hard to find somebody working on the floor, especially ones who look like they wanna work there. Whenever I go, whether it be during the week or even weekend, there's always somebody in framing, and all the other people are usually upfront at the cash registers. I only ever see one person working in the floor, but they are always busy with a line of people trying to talk to them. I do like the selection of art supplies, and they even have fabric, which is cool. Kind of rare to find that at Michaels. I always find what I need, and if I do need help, I'll ask the framers cause they seem to be more knowledgeable and available than anybody else. Great pricing for large amounts of items. read more

First off let me say, JoAnn closing is the only reason I dare go to Michaels. The customer service is crap from beginning to end. It's hard to find workers throughout the store, then when you actually do find "assistance" they don't know anything. The lines are always long, then they want you to self checkout. The selection isn't anything like JoAnns either. I can't really say you're getting Value because most items are overpriced, and unless you are paying regular price you can't get the sometimes 30% off 1 single item. Then curbside is a joke, wheres the phone number or something to click on the app like many of the other stores with seamless pickup! I'm just overall not happy about Michaels crafts, they recently made changes to their app so finding coupons is like finding Nemo!! If I could give a 0 I would have. I'm generally super happy after going to this store, but my wallet is usually crying because I almost always end up getting more than I actually really need. (In my defense, I've been trying to get back to trying to make cool things again, and my friend and I want to do baking/Bob Ross paint nights, so how could we not come here, especially when there are so many sales to be had!?) The good: It's not Hobby Lobby. Frames were on sale for buy one get one free. Luciano was super helpful about colored pencils and markers The bad: We arrived at 545 to get 2 more frames after coming in earlier. The person doing framing said it would be best to come back with the poster that needed mating. When we arrived, we waited at the framing area for someone to help us. And I walked up to the guy working in the section he said "I'm not allowed to do it, framing closes an hour before closing. His manager wouldn't let him do it." There are no signs that say they close framing early. If there was a sign, we would not have returned. I spoke to the manager who kept saying they close framing early as if it's common knowledge. First and foremost, the customer service here was great. The staff who helped us with custom framing were friendly and super helpful. When there was some complication between using a gift card and paying with a credit card, staff seemed very willing and ready to help us. We were really impressed. And, when you do custom framing here, staff generally would be more than happy to walk you through the process and let you play around with different ideas for frames, colors, and everything to make the product fit what you have in mind as closely as possible. I also liked the variety of the off-the-shelf frames that were available when we were at the store today. As for value, look out for some in-store deals such as BOGO free. They have those sometimes. the lady in the balloon center helped another lady first (who had paid for the balloons AFTER me) just because she walked up to her and cut me in line. She told her she can leave the balloons there for inflation as she walked around the store. Yet, the same option was not provided to me. She was rude and told me I have to wait for her to finish another order. The balloon lady was supposed to help me place an order for pickup, I did not want them inflated right now and she told me to wait 10 min. I waited for over 15 min after I had purchased them and I had to go back to work. I am pissed that I had paid for them and all I had to was leave my number and pickup time but instead I left with no order and now I have to waste more time after work going to another store for inflation. If I paid first I should be helped first, why was someone else helped over me and had much better tone/service than I received? read more

My boyfriend and I were driving around his hometown and out of no where I decided to ask if there is a Michaels around. Lucky he said yes and I was so excited to go. The last time I went to Michaels was when I was visiting Seattle 2 years ago! Michaels is by far one of the largest craft stores I've ever been to and I love it! I swear I always get lost when searching for arts and craft items in there! When I go to Michaels I normally head straight towards the bead section. They have a wide variety of beads and they also have discounts on them too! From my past visit I got these beautiful glass, plastic, and wood beads! I can't wait to use these on my Rave Kandi cuffs and perlers! Overall, I personally love Michaels I wish we had a large craft store like this back in Hawaii. This is definitely one of my favorite Michales locations. The rem members are always will yo go the extra mile to help me locate the items needed for a new project. They also have a great selection of Cricut products and a large assortment of shirts in both youth and adult sizes. There is ample parking and several handicap spots right upfront. You'll also find a cut pond just behind the store and a little grassy area for the little ones to run around. There's even a small restaurant/bar in the plaza for Dad to grab an ice cold brew while mom grabs a glass of wine. read more

My wallet may cry everytime I pull into the parking lot but oh boy does my heart swell! I swear I leave this store with a new hobby every single time! Today's trip was cricut focused! I got iron on vinyl and t-shirts. In fact I just made my Grandma a shirt for mothers day tomorrow! These were the items that I actually came in for. I also left with two bundles of cardstock. I have been debating picking up card making so when I saw the sale on paper I decided today was the day to start! I can say that I made one card so far so I'm calling it a hobby win. Being told at 9:30am with no less than 5 employees wandering around the store doing very little, that someone could ONLY check me out if I was paying in cash , otherwise I HAD to use the self checkout caused me to scale back $400 worth of stuff in my cart to the bare minimum that I wasn't sure I could get elsewhere. One male employee answers the phone very rudely. If you don't like ppl don't work retail. I would rather have no one answer than have someone like him get on the line. On top of that he gave the wrong info about items. I don't need employees to be sugary sweet, but to answer the phone and be rude is really not okay. People want to shop for items or get info, not be treated poorly for no reason from a stranger. I prefer the self-checkout because the lines are much shorter now and it's much faster. read more

I have not been at Michaels in some time. I was looking for a specific kind of picture frame that in the past I could always find at Aaron Bros. The merger of Aaron Bros and Michaels was unfortunate IMO. Much less stock, and I was unable to find what I needed. Little help from sales staff. Perhaps if I had a specific project in mind, I would be more attracted to Michaels. I just wandered about and really didn't find anything that caught my eye. It seems very crowded -- and like a warehouse in atmosphere. In principle, I will not shop at Hobby Lobby, so I will stick with Joanne Fabrics. Sure do miss Beverly's. read more

The self-checkout only situation is such a disappointment. There's a lot of good stuff selection-wise, but unengaged staff standing about, not acknowledging patrons, while customers handle their own checkout transactions is bizarre. This is to review MICHAELS in Pleasant Hill, CA. This store is located on Gregory Lane, about two blocks west of Route 680. I have driven by this store about 1,000 times, during my employment at Cerus Corporation in Concord, CA. Today (July 8, 2021) was my first visit. Today I bought a set of eight rubber stamps, each attached to a wooden block. The rubber stamps were of a butterfly, a bee, 2 lady bugs next to each other, and five different flower rubber stamps. I also bought an ink pad with YELLOW ink, which I decided would be the best color for the butterfly and for the bee, and I bought another ink pad with GREEN ink. At first, I was unable to find any ink pads, and so I asked a young lady where they were. She knew right away where they were. When I followed her instructions, I found them. Then, I went back to the young lady employee and I said, "Thank you, you are a genius !" My hobby is to burn compilations of music on a blank CD, and then paint the CD with enamel paint. Attached are photos showing some of my painted CD's. I bought the enamel paint from Michaels in San Leandro. The photographs show my paintings of: (1) Paisleys that are twisted or wiggly; (2) Compilation of rock'n'roll songs about girls, with Persian writing reading, "Songs About Girls;" (3) CD painted with open manholes, with paisleys flying in and out of the open manholes; (4) Santa Dog painted on a CD, where the music includes Santa Dog by the Residents, Dumbo the Clown by the Residents, and other quirky songs. MICHAELS has a massive collection of arts and crafts supplies. ACRYLIC PAINTS and COLORED PENCILS. Acrylic paints are available on a set of shelves 7-feet tall, where the shelf length is 60 feet. We find National Geographic Build Your Own Volcano & Make It Erupt. We also find, National Geographic Amazing Worms Chemistry Kit. YARN. A huge assortment is available, and the yarn comes in various thicknesses, and the yarn comes in 200 different colors and colored designs. POM POMS. The spray paint is made by Krylon, and 60 different colors of paint are available. METAL CHAINS. Sixty different kinds of chains are available, and these are for necklaces or for adorning clothes. ARTISTS PAINT BRUSHES. About 60 kinds of brushes are available. SPIRAL-BOUND NOTEBOOKS. Some of these are plain notebooks, and some are calenders. About 120 kinds of notebooks are available. Photo albums are also for sale. COLORED PAPER (8 1/2 inches x 11 inches). The display area for colored paper is 60 feet long. There are 550 different colors and patterns of paper. They fired all the checkers except for one and replaced them with six "Self-Checkout" machines. So depressing and sad. I dont know about you but I hate self-checkout. One of the few humans allowed to remain was very helpful and informative! Which just makes it all the more sad -- this is what we want in our retail stores -- HUMANS. I've been coming here for about 3 1/2 years and I have always been impressed with their selection, cleanliness, organization and staff. They are always helpful, although sometimes it can be hard to find someone in the aisles, which I think comes down to them being regularly pretty busy. When you do find someone they are over the top helpful and make sure you find what you need, even to the point of walking you to the item. The one thing they've added recently which is awesome is they have self check out stands! So the business seems to have decreased with this, and the check outs are legitimately the nicest ones I've ever seen. Way nicer and more advanced than Safeway, Costco, Target, any of the other grocery stores. They have huge screens and really clear instructions on how to use it. I highly recommend coming here because of these, it decreased the wait time a lot! I will continue shopping here for my arts and crafts needs! read more

I really don't like giving poor ratings but think it's necessary so management can step in and fix the attitudes of the staff. I want to point out that I know it's COVID and people are working during these rough times; however, this treatment of people have gone on for awhile now, prior to COViD. For the past 8 times I visited this store I had horrible experiences. Yes, 8 times! I do not write poor reviews but found this necessary. Apparently the last two issues I had was with the exact same associate. Lacking any motivation to work or simply search for items you ask her for. I went in looking for a storage box today, and walked around the entire store. Not one 10 shelf organizer in site. The previous instance I had at this location I brought it up to this woman, and only for her to give zero hoots and tell me "I am the manager!" This time, no one is on the sales floor, oh crap it's only her. I was hesitant but still approached her. To my surprise she told me it's over there, and points to a stack of storage bins that were well above 5 ft. She basically denoted for me to move the boxes myself. Seriously? The organizer I needed was at the very bottom, she got pissed and was in a bad mood. Now she's upset shuffling the boxes over, I tried to help her only for the box to tumble over. No apologies from her. The box literally dropped. She was incredibly rude. The fact that I have to deal with these types of associates will be the reason I no longer shop at michaels. The cashier experience was even worst. The lack of energy at 9am is incredibly shocking. And since it is the manager who acts like this it trickles down to the associates. I also want to point out that there was only a handful of people in the entire store. Probably less than five. This girl who posing to be manager, felt entitled to treat customers the way she did. This is the second time I dealt with her and luckily it will be the last. Please stop coming to work if your so miserable, you put that negative energy out there and it trickles down to almost every other miserable associate. read more

I've spent a fortune in this store. After cleaning out my garage I found some returns that I forgot to make. The items are still carried at the Michaels store but they would not let me return the items even for store credit because they said the tags were old - I guess these change every six months. With stores like Joanns and Hobby Lobby nearby I have to say that due to maybe a $25 return that they would not accept, I will NO longer be spending my money here. read more
