Love Michaels for all crafts, vases, jewelry, seasonal decorations and candles. They ALWAYS have sales and coupons on the internet, today I used a 50% coupon and I get an additional 15% for being a teacher. Cant beat that! I used to love this place and favored them over Jo-Ann's although Jo-Ann's is closer to my house, however, I do not understand how Michael's has slipped recently...Retail Me Not didn't even have in-store coupons which should have been my first clue of a doomed trip; my checker was not the friendliest which was fine, I was ready to get out of there anyway. Went back a few days later, on a weekday, and the line was ridiculously long with only 2 checkers working; 3 others came around to chat in the front for a bit then went back to the store...um, seriously?! None of you see the massive line of people standing in front of you? Then 1 of the 2 checkers took off for break; at least say something to the rest of us that we will be assisted shortly or you're calling one of the 3 to come back and work a register. Geez. Who's in charge here?! Walked into an arts and craft store wanting some ceramic molding clay (unfortunately didn't' get that but we'll get to that later) but I did walked out with running shorts! That doesn't happen everyday but I'm very happy with my random running shorts purchase. Like I mentioned earlier I walked in, in need of ceramic molding clay for a project that I had for class. I had called ahead of time and the miss on the phone was positive that they had clay, so I stopped in. The first person I asked when I walked up just pointed me in the general direction I should go and kept on looking at her scene (vvveerrrry helpful, right?) I found another employee and she was very sweet but got what I needed kind of mixed up and got my hopes up. She showed me "air-dry clay" which ended up being Crayola soft molding stuff :[ I bought two packs, got home and realized this was NOT what I needed/wanted. I used one pack because I needed to and returned the second one that evening. The return process was quick and easy but they swiped my driver license, why I don't know but I got my money back :] Majority of the employees from my visits are very nice and sweet but do need to know the difference between ceramic clay and a molding substance. Nice store but staff definitely will not go out of their way to provide attention to customers. My 9 year old daughter received a Michaels gift card for Christmas and long story short ended up misplacing it at the store when she was buying slime ingredients. Within minutes we informed several workers but all three were seemingly and overtly uninterested in helping my daughter.It would have been nice even if they tried to at least pretend to take our info in case it turned up! Anyways we ended up buying the items, but I will take my business elsewhere for future purchases. read more

Customer service at this store is horrid. There were at LEAST 5 employees on the floor restocking and the line at checkout was backing up about 10 people deep with only one cashier working at the registers. All the while the other employees kept coming to the front to get items to restock, with no intention of opening up another register, while the checkout line just kept getting longer and longer. Oh and if you have to return an item, forget about it! If you have a damaged product they practically accuse you of damaging the item yourself and refuse to accommodate legitimate returns. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? That lesson is lost on these employees. read more

Walking in today to purchase some sugar Fondant for my store. I didn't see any on display and I was in desperate need. I saw a young lady that was working there. She was kind enough to go to the back and see if they had any. She had came back with four. I am glad that she went to the back to check if they had some unlike some who just see that there's none on display and tell me that they do not have any. She was nice with a big smile on her face. Came in earlier today to make a few purchases for myself and some friends. I've done multiple transactions before, and had to today since I was paying with my card for one transaction and one with cash. When it was time to pay, my sister went first, her cashier was really nice and was able to do the two transactions. It was my turn to pay and my cashier (Fatima) was really rude and said she couldn't do two transactions. I explained to her but the other cashier had just done it, why wasn't I able to do it? She decided to do it but was giving me attitude the entire time. I understand it was a little more work, but the items were not only for me therefore I needed to separate them. I come here often so I was actually really upset by her attitude. It makes me not want to go back if she could potentially assist me again. read more

Great store but READ THE EXPIRATION DATES THAT THEY HAVE ON THE SALES THEY HAVE POSTED!! All over the store they have signs for "Buy one get one free" but once you take it to cashier, she will tell you that it has expired and they are not going to honor the sale. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. These employees - namely Kara who is supposedly their shift manager are concerned more about closing their store than anything else. If they had their way they would close an hour earlier. Who is even thinking about helping customers? Why would they? In short if you are looking for help and you happen to walk in after 8:30pm you better turn around otherwise you will get an attitude and experience a very unprofessional behavior. This place always has everything I ever need for all my artsy and crafty endeavors. I love this Michael's especially compared to the one in Van Nuys (which had the worst employees ever!). This Michael's always has these awesome coupons when I buy stuff. Also, the ones that come in the Sunday papers are helpful. Anyway, the employees are helpful, literally will walk you to what you're looking for and help you choose. They don't leave my side till they get the OK that I can find what I need. I never leave reviews in Yelp but the customer service here was so bad I couldn't NOT say something. Went there to buy a frame. I found one I needed but the price wasn't listed. So I asked the lady behind the counter of the frame section. She was extremely rude and refused to help me. She was 5 feet away from the scanner and told me I had to go to the price checker halfway across the store which I was not able to use because the frame was too big. My friend then asked if she knew if they had another item in stock and was also dismissed very rudely. I'm sorry your job sucks but customer service is all about interacting with people. This store advertises that they will match competitor prices. It's right there on the front door. But it's not necessarily true. The sign doesn't SAY there are stipulations, but there definitely are. Even if you can prove the price to be matched, they have this and that rule to work against you. Don't proudly display something in ur front door that you don't actually DO! So misleading. Michaels is overpriced to begin with. I typically shop at a competitors, and it doesn't look like michaels cares to try to bring more clientele into their doors. read more

I was just in there to buy candles. Because I had so many I asked if there was an empty box or perhaps we could wrap them to protect the glass. She muttered something that was inaudible (her voice was fine when she called me to her station) and then when I asked her to repeat herself she said it was too painful for her hands to perform the task of wrapping the candles in paper. No apologies, she looked at me as if there was no solution. She watched me wrap them myself. If this was an issue, why would they put her up front knowing this was part of the job description. I called to lodge a complaint. No answer on their phone. 3rd time I called, I heard the clerk giving a total to a customer and then they hung up. Let me start by saying I had NEVER ordered anything from Michael's online. I ordered something and received an email everyday reminding me I needed to pick up my item. I arrived at the store at 12:25p and had followed the process by alerting them that I was on my way as well as when I arrived. There was one other person already parked in the designated curbsideparking spaces. We both were waiting and finally, she got out of her car (12:35p) to ask the woman in front managing the line what was happening. Another car pulled up into one of the slots to my right. Shortly after, a woman (a larger Latina) came out with her stuff so I waited because I assumed I was next (12:40p). Another car pulled up to my left and her stuff was brought about five minutes later I flagged down the girl who intentionally ignored me (African American girl with braids) and I informed her I had been waiting for about 15 minutes and she said "we are trying to find the orders". I was shocked because I work for a retailer that offers pickup and everything is in the same area and labeled with names/order numbers to get the customers in and out quickly. It's kinda the whole point. My annoyance grew as I watched all of the people in line to enter the store going in and coming out shortly after with their purchases. I could've just gone in and been done. At this point, it was about 20 minutes (12:45p) and I walked up to the older woman sitting at the door with the iPad. I shared that I had been waiting 20 min now for my curbside pickup and wanted to talk to the manager. She seemed flustered and told me to "hold on". I stood there and waited for a manager and no one came. Finally after 30 minutes (12:55p), a young Latino guy came out with my stuff and that of the woman who was to my right. Still no manager, but I had to go because now I was late for work. The experience I had here was unacceptable. Don't offer curbside if you can't meet the demand. The Granada Hills location is clearly run terribly. Also, not that they were bothering anyone, but there were two homeless people sitting on the curb of the designated curbside spots. I stopped by Michaels to grab some last minute Christmas gifts and I have to say it was beyond swapped. Given the time and date I wasn't expecting much when shopping. The store was in disarray but there was a good amount of staff working on it, which seemed promising. We were looking for a particular item and had no trouble finding staff to help us locate it. The lady helping us walked us over to the section and apologized for the disarray of products and helped us search for the items. She informed us of an awesome promotion going on and told us what to look out for. We got what we needed and patiently waited in a long line that seemed to take ages to get through. When we reached the front we noticed two checkers in the front lanes, just TWO checkers. I am curious if all the staff on the floor really makes us for the lack of staff at the registers especially during the weekend before Christmas. Overall I enjoyed this Michaels because it's located in a nice shopping center with other businesses near by, there's tons of parking, the staff was friendly, nice, and actually worked. read more

Busy location on a Friday night. Points for having more staff than the woodland hills location but everybody tonight looked like they didn't want to be there. Alot of people avoiding me like I had the plague. Kind of Pricey but they definitely have a large assortment of things to help you with your project. I came in looking for Shadow Boxes tonight to help display my Baseball Memoribillia. Some of these basic display cases ran into $50 $70 bucks range. Not exactly sure what I was thinking but it was a good place to get some starting ideas at least. There are cheaper alternative stores but this is a great one stop shop plus a great place for getting some ideas. read more

My fiance and I purchased posters that needed frames. We had difficulty finding a frame that would fit the poster because the posters' measurements were unorthodox. We spoke to someone at their Aaron Brothers section and told us they do custom framing. Since there weren't any frames that would fit the posters correctly, my fiance and I had no choice but to go this route. Later that day, we returned with our posters and a wonderful employee, Fatima, immediately came to our aid. She was patient, polite, and very invested. When it was time to pick up the frames, another awesome employee, Amber, helped me out. She made sure the finished product came out without any issues. Fatima and Amber made my shopping experience at Michael's exceptional. Definitely bringing my business back. read more

Great selection of decorative floral arrangements, frames, paint, sketchbooks, and more... Love that they have fabulous designs for baby showers. Their customer service is good and courteous. I waited forever and the credit card machine didnt work for crap while I was there.. but the staff was helpful.. even though they didnt know what was going on most the time. I go to this store every now and then when I need supplies for a project. Every time I've been there, they've always had what I needed. The reason I give this a 4 out of 5 stars is because I feel like they could tidy up the store a little bit. It's kind of messy for my taste. My complaint is that Michaels has a bad selection of frames for artists who paint on canvas. The only option available is custom framing - there are no frames for small to medium canvas sizes out on the shelves. I asked at the custom framing department about this and was told I could use any size frame in their photo frame section,..just take out the glass. Well, that does not work with all thicknesses of canvas (including the ones that Michaels sells in their stores). The photo frames do not have a wider width that pairs with a canvas. I painted on the same width canvas they have in their store, I get the frame I purchased home and the canvas sticks out the back, making it stick out from the wall when hung. Why do they have so many canvases but not the correct frames? In addition to this, many of the canvases I saw for sale at Michaels had damage to them - holes, rips, tears, etc.,..a lot of them. Does not give me confidence in the quality of their merchandise. I recommend they get better buyers for their stores, have quality checks before putting out merchandise and carry a supply of frames that will work with the canvases they sell. Seems like a no brainer to me. read more

Horrible online order experience. Their system is archaic and very slow. Yes, they offer additional discounts to lure you to purchasing but when you get to the store they claim they don't have the merchandise. I knew they had them because I had them in my hands very shortly after I placed the order. I insisted they look again and lo and behold they found the items. Since they cancelled that portion of my order, I had to pay for the items we did find on their shelves. Worst part, they won't provide an immediate refund for these items that were cancelled. You have to wait 3-5 days for their poor service. read more

Every time I come in, the service is terrible. Came in today and I wish I was able to see the name of the lady at the register but she didn't have a name tag. VERY RUDE. This place is so cool and readily prepared with Arrangements of product. The cashiers know how to treat customers I was helped out by Julian which did an amazing job getting me in and out of there. He was very friendly and was himself I love this place I will be coming back for all of my craft needs.
