Lakeshore is a wonderland of fun! I took my son here looking for a specific toolbox toy and I ended up leaving with so much more. Firstly, the staff was so friendly and attentive. They pointed me in the right direction when I was looking for age appropriate toys for my son. The store itself is very organized and it's easy to get around. There were so many options of toys and activities of all ages. Half of the store was also supplies and instruments for teachers. It was so fun to explore! I got my son a piano toy, a harmonica and a drill/screw toy. He loves them all! Forewarning, prices here are a little higher than what you would find near Amazon but they do have specials and sales. Plus you're supporting local! It was seriously so fun to take my son here and shop. I can't wait to return when he gets a little older to explore more of what they offer for older kiddos! read more

This store is rad. I went to get a few gifts for my nephew's 2nd birthday. I was here for like 30 minutes just walking around looking at all the cool crafts, toys, and learning supplies they offer. My nephew loved the toys, and they seem to be well built and durable. My mom used to take me to stores like this because she was a public school kindergarten teacher. I have to say I have never been in a Lakewood before. I also have to say I have no kids. if you're looking for adult stationary like Japanese stationary for planners and journaling this is not the place for you. When they say they have stationary, they mean for four-year-olds. read more

Even if you are not an educator, Lakeshore is a great place to go for not only wonderful learning toys & books for your kids, but also arts & craft supplies. All at reasonable prices to boot. The selection is big & they always have what we're looking for whenever we go in. Our kids love being able to pick out a small to and we're okay with it knowing they will at least get some sort of educational value out of it. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and, when they do in store events like reading/activity time, they all are able to interact with the kids in very kind and caring ways. They also often give out coupons on those events for even more savings so that's another perk to taking the kids to the events. Parking is in the rear and plentiful, but it does share the space with all the other businesses in the vicinity so I guess at times the lot could get full due to restaurants being popular. However, that has never been the case for us as we usually go on weekend mornings before they open. Just something to keep in mind. read more

This store is pretty big with a variety of toys and hands-on activities on display throughout. We came for the Saturday Read & Play (Grumpy Monkey) and got a 50% coupon for a second item valid that day. Lindsay did a great job with story time, she had the kids and parents engaged until the end. The scavenger hunt was fun and the kids got prizes. The kids love Lakeshore and to say they explored the aisles today is an understatement. We left with two new items and we'll be back for story time again. read more

Lakeshore Learning Store offers an array of educational items. They definitely cater to educators. Bulk items meant for a class. The store is pretty easy to navigate. Separated into different sections. This store is an elementary teacher's dream! I have kids in elementary grades and I loved looking at the different work books and items they offer in their grades. They have a section where they have erasable practice boards. I got a few so they can practice their cursive and multiplications. Will definitely be back! Great selection of educational toys and books. My daughter was struggling with reading at grade level, so I visited lakeshore learning and bought some grade level workbooks. I have seen a HUGE difference. Even her teacher asked me what had changed. The books consist of short stories followed by multiple choice questions to test for comprehension. This store is an elementary school teacher's dream!! My mother is a teacher so I stopped by here to grab a few things. They have everything you could think of in terms of classroom supplies and decorations. They even offer lamination. I received help from a dark-haired gentleman (didn't catch his name), and Thalia was my cashier. Both were incredibly nice and friendly. So many therapists and educators strive to teach skills in creative ways and I'm glad Lakeshore can help us with that! Great place to find a variety of materials for kiddos! They carry tracing books, magnetic blocks, classroom supplies (i.e., boarder strips, paper trays, etc), figget toys, and my favorite, THERAPUTTY! AMBIANCE/SETTING: The isles are organized well. It was easy for me to find what I was looking for. It was hard not to buy things that I wasn't planning on buying. They have a laminating section which is good for laminating bulk items. STAFF: They were very helpful. One staff member even went to the back room to grab paper so that I can place the paper into a paper holder to test if the paper will fit the way I want it to fit. They were also more than happy to find items that I couldn't find. COUPONS: This place is not cheap. However, I work in the field of developmental disabilities and they gave me a "teacher" card and offered me a bunch of coupons. I also opted to receive coupon codes via text. I enjoy coming here, they have a great selection of books, educational toys, educational books for teachers and non teachers. I've purchased many things here and are also part of their free program which offers incentives via text message or email. I get some good deals buy one get the other 50 percent off, or 20 percent off. It comes in handy as their prices can be a lil pricier than other stores. The girls working here are wonderful, they are very personable, they love to help you, they answer all your questions and they realllly take their time to help you and find what your looking for. I made a very big purchase for my son here and the item I purchased has been the best investment I made, we use it on a daily basis. He is really learning a lot. They are the friendliest, most positive, cheerful, helpful staff I have ever meet. I've been to many stores throughout my life and I've met one person, maybe two, in a store that possess the qualities that I've mentioned above, but at the Lakeshore in Northridge, everyone is top-notch! Thalia and Victoria were able to get me 3 of my favorite alphabet card bulletin board set that is discontinued and Edwin offered to fix my pretend and play hardwood hutch and told me I can get my 15 ft. of free lamination on another day. I'm a high school teacher and while most of this store is targeted for elementary age students, there is still so much here for class decor and classroom supplies! They have so many options for bulletin boards borders, letters, and more. I used to do most of my shopping for my classroom online but you have to know exactly what you're looking for in order to find it; when you're here, there's so much to browse that will help strike inspiration. This is also a great place to find fun and educational gifts for young kids. I also really appreciate them for offering free lamination during the LAUSD teacher strike. It's that time of the year again where teachers flock to stores like Lakeshore and hand over their hard-earned cash to supply their classrooms with basic necessities that the school district should be supplying but don't. But that's for another forum. Lakeshore is a teacher's dream. It has pretty much everything I need for my new job - i.e., empty classroom. But everything is so darn expensive. Luckily, most of the items right now are discounted by 20% for a limited time. And you also get a discount for the rest of the year by signing up for their teacher's club. I bought some posters and decided to have them laminated in the store. One of the young staffers helped me with that, and he was so nice. In fact, everyone in the store was nice. I left with a very full cart, and the one thing I hated is that they don't have an automatic entrance/exit door. I had to push the door with my hand, keep it propped with my foot, and then drag my cart along behind me. How very antiquated - just like the L.A. public school I work at. read more

A large selection of teaching materials that are relatively well organized (predominately organized by skill: ie. math, gross motor skills, music, etc.). Two Things, they are a little pricey, even with the teachers discount they offer, and they don't seem to be cross organized by age level in each subsection.
