I was doing an Instacart order there at around 6:15 today (June 24th). It was a terrible experience. I was picking up a batch of balloons for a customer that had to be inflated. No problem right? Easy. Is what I thought. Nope. The lady at the checkout had no communication with me whatsoever. I checked out and before paying I asked if they can be inflated. She then told me "no the charge is already included in the total." Not what I asked but okay. I finish checking out and she grabs the balloons. She says nothing. I don't hear the helium machine go off until 10 minutes later so I have no idea what she was doing around that time but I didn't look because I don't stare at people while doing their job. She still says nothing to me. A good 15 minutes pass again and I was getting restless. I had no idea when the balloons were going to finish so I started lapping the store. I walked around the store about 5 times slowly and finally I get back and I think they have to be done right? Each time I checked, it didn't look like much progress was being made and at some points she wasn't actually working on my balloons, just helping someone else. Even though there were other employees. Another employee seemed to take over at some point. Still no one says anything to me. I look over again and I see that another balloons are being made and I'm thinking if the one I got were done they would say something right? WRONG! They sat there for a good 3 minutes and go up to the counter and ask if they are done. No one responds. I ask again. Finally she says yes. And that's it. NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER. I could have gotten a heads up that it would take 30 minutes or so (not exaggerating) but not a word was said to me. I was treated so poorly and for what? Because I'm not the actual customer?? Well the customer was waiting for ME to deliver these. Super unprofessional and very rude people. I've been in customer service many times, and no matter the reason for someone's visit at the store, they always get treated with respect as long as they give it back, which I did. My go to for all things Michaels especially those deals, not just because it's the closest arts and craft store, but because it's a good one. And I get a lot of craft and creative essentials here, but also so many good deals on frames for posters, art, miscellaneous items and picture frames. It's always clean, good selections, easy-ish to navigate... Some things tend to go toward the front that move better rather than one the isle they belong. Seasonal items always draw me in, especially great deals on string lights and back to school supplies. Art materials will definitely be on sale and currently are. Customer service is close to perfect every time. When there's a line they keep it moving with at least three or more registers open. Located not to far from where "LaRusso Auto Group" would be if it were a real place (Cobra Kai reference), inside the Encino Commons on Ventura Blvd between Louise and Amestoy Avenues. You can get lucky with parking, sometimes even in front, so take you time as people do come and go from this Encino Commons mall-ish of businesses. However if you're not up for the journey in or adventures in parking in a lot... Apparently you can even DoorDash Michaels to yourself, something I just learned this month! I always enjoy a trip to this Michaels. They have SO many things here, not just art supplies! I always find that Michaels has great quality frames as well as holiday decor. Prices are not really competitive here, so you may pay a premium for that Christmas wreath. However they do have sales from time to time! I've also bought stickers, canvas, paint and even kids toys here before. At one point they were selling these giant matchbox cars that my son loved. I went back recently to buy another and they were gone. So things must turnover quickly here. I always check online to see if they have something in stock before going to the store to save myself the hassle of trying to find someone to ask for help. They don't always have many employees on the floor and if you are looking for something specific, you might need the help. This store was fairly busy on Sunday around 1pm. It was also well-stocked for Christmas, bright, and clean. But the customer service was terrible! I came in to get something custom framed, and no one was manning the custom frame area. I asked a woman with long white hair in a ponytail if she was the person who could help me, and she walked away without saying anything. I waited for 5-10 minutes with no one coming over to help. Then I ran into the same woman again and asked her if she could find someone who could help me. She said yes, and walked away. I waited for another 5-10 minutes with no one coming over to help. Then I ran into the same woman again, and asked her if she could find someone who could help me. This time she looked at me like I was annoying her, and said there was no one staffed for the framing area. We came back to the framing section and continued to wait for the two woman to finish with the gentleman working in that section.after about two minutes he turns to me and says" they are going to be my last customer before I go on break." It's not his fault, but that's terrible service. Michael's should either pay him overtime to assist a waiting customer or staff the store so that they can handle the business. These people never bring out my order if I choose curbside pickup. Why even have the choice for curbside pickup when no one pays attention to it?? I wait for 20 mins every time for no reason. I call the store and get hung up on, and keep calling and no one answers. I am injured and just needed to someone to bring my order out. Can't talk to customer care, because when you choose the chat option it says you have a wait time of however many minutes and then tells you your session timed out because of inactivity. How?? Custom framing.... We all know it's all customer service and creativity. We also know it cost a grip! Per the website I booked an appointment in advance. Shows up 15 mins earlier just to browse different types of frames they carry. An employee asked if I needed assistance I stated I have an appt for consultation her first response was well I'm about to take lunch now I'm into my 5th hour so if you are ready I can help you otherwise you will have to wait til I return. When she realized I have already pulled the frame sample and mats she opted to help instead of taking her lunch. After 40 mins of her trying to input the dimensions into the computer I still did not have an estimate of what it will cost to get the job done by them. Being frustrated doesn't describe my feeling of standing around. Since over 45 mins has past still without an estimate I decided to speak with the store manager to complain about lack of knowledge of the system and unprofessionalism of their employee. Store manager comment "ok I will look into it. Anything else you want to say?" It just left me floored. Walked out and decided to find another store... In the past week I have been to the Encino location 2x and I want to say the service was spectacular. I could find an associate to ask a question and if they didn't know they immediately got on their walkie to ask a colleague and then I actually had people meet me and take me to the item I was looking for, in addition they showed me other items that were similar that they thought might work also. Zenah was amazing today! I brought in my elderly client (who lives her crafts that keep her happy),who has Alzheimer's and is in her 90s. By the time we got to the register, she was exhausted! Zenah got her a chair and kept an eye on her so I could go get the car and park right out front. I went to Michaels today to pick up a few items for some home and clothing repairs. I found exactly what I needed in a few minutes (I have been in the store before and had a general idea where things would be located). I waited in a short line and was assisted by Charm at the check out area. She was so kind and helpful. I mentioned that I appreciated her excellent customer experience and she directed me to her manager, Josef. When I spoke to Josef to compliment Charm, he was so appreciative and lovely. I want to start this negative review by stating that the reason I am leaving this review has absolutely nothing to do with ANY of the staff at this location. Every staff member has always been kind, helpful, and knowledgeable whenever I have needed assistance shopping. But have visited this Michaels THREE times over a TWO WEEK period, and all 3 times I have visited there has been an extremely loud and extremely audible security alarm going off in the store. I can not CONCEIVE of a reality in which at least turning off the beeping is not something trivial for a security technician to solve. And I can not CONCEIVE of a reality where corporate has not been made aware of this issue considering I do not know how anyone could spend an entire day listening to this LOUD, HIGHLY FREQUENT, and GRATING siren blaring all day. It's frustrating enough as a customer, imagine how the employees feel working like that for hours, and for days and weeks. I can literally hear the beeping from my car in the parking lot. I can ONLY assume that corporate was made aware of this and has dragged their feet as corporations do to get a security technician in there to fix the problem. Which is RIDICULOUS. My heart goes out to the staff that have to deal with this, I HIGHLY doubt you are being paid anywhere near enough to put up with such a HOSTILE working condition. So to Michael's corporate: YOU NEED TO GET SOMEONE TO THAT LOCATION RIGHT. NOW. NOT TOMORROW! NOT TUESDAY! RIGHT. NOW. Just to reiterate this has been the case THREE TIMES in TWO WEEKS!!! Online the store website says there is a 20% coupon available for customers. However when you try to redeem in the store, they will tell you that you need a barcode. The website does not pull up a barcode only gives you a code with words. I had to practically demand them to give me the cupon. Honestly it kind of feels like a scam. They try to make it seem like they're going to give you the 20% off but when you actually try to use it, they make it impossible. The store clerk would not give me the code. Only until I repeated the fact that other stores have no problem honoring their coupons to the manager finally gave me the store coupon. I spend hundreds of dollars here every month as I am an art teacher. And on average Michaels is more expensive for each item compared to the other store. The other craft store gives me 25% off, all I need to do is give them my phone number. Michael's has lost me forever as a customer. read more

Who isn't putting together a puzzle at this point?! I know I was way late to the game but that's because I kept delivering shi* to my office that was closed. Anyhow I put together my first 500 (I know, kid level) puzzle and I'm just not a puzzler by any means. I was so proud to have finished this thing in five days and it really is pretty there was no way in hell I was taking it apart and putting it back in its box, nope! A friend of mine told me where to find puzzle glue and that Michaels was doing a pick up option, this worked out swimmingly. I placed the order and within a couple of days it was ready for pick up. I pulled into the parking lot, popped the trunk, gave them a buzz with my order number and they came right out to check my ID through the window, drop my bag in the trunk, close it up and I was on my way. Superb service!!!! It's still so unusual to try and get use to this new norm but Michaels is totally on board and so helpful. If you can find your items in stock I'd highly suggest going this route. Very thankful to my friend who told me how to save my puzzle and for Michaels Encino staff being excellent. I hadn't previously shopped at this location. I was at the Michael's location in Encino (9187) and I had a rather concerning discussion with Enrique the apparent store manager. It started because my wife was interested in a wreath that they had on display, and it did not have a tag. I approached the young lady in the cashier's office who told me the item was $23.99. Feeling that she was just saying it to blow me off, I asked her if she could give me a sku for it so that when I am ready to pay, It would make the transaction easier. She said there was no need, we have the price up here. When I approached her to pay, about 15 minutes later, she had already forgotten (as I anticipated) and said she had to contact the store manager, which could have all been prevented if she had taken the time to look up the sku when I asked her. The manager Enrique arrives and told me that this is an online only item, and he would sell it to me using the sku of a different item (throwing off your inventory) and it ended up costing $33.32, rather than the $23.99 I was initially quoted. The price truth be told was the least of my concerns. What bothered me was Enrique's attitude as he was rushing and patronizing me as if I had somehow bothered him for wanting a good price. As he finished, I voiced my frustration to him as the Manager and told him if an item is "online only", perhaps you should see to it it never makes it to the shelf. This apparently triggered him, and he went on a rampage telling me how he was saving me money and how I should appreciate what he is doing for me, and after I voiced my discomfort in how he was talking down at me, he ended with the following comment: "Oh, I guess I shouldn't say anything like that because you are the customer?" In a sarcastic and condescending manner. I told him that I was shocked to hear that attitude from the manager, I thought you knew that yes customers are valuable, but apparently he doesn't understand this basic concept. He turned around and said "I am only reflecting your attitude towards me" and "I am sorry you do not comprehend what I am trying to explain to you, as he walked away rudely and left me talking to myself. I was very upset. I went in to Micheal's to feel happy about my purchase, not to be lectured and belittled by a young man who doesn't understand the absolute basic concepts of customer service. As I got home and reviewed my receipt, I noticed it said "Dear Valued Customer", and I thought I sure didn't feel valued at Michael's today. I'm thankful to live close to this one, every time I've come in I've been welcomed warmly & have received nothing but helpful, kind employees! This store is always clean, organized, and I've never struggled with parking! During my visit yesterday I was looking for a "tiny spray bottle" which honestly, could have been anywhere. I asked an employee & was taken to an area I had not looked yet, we both looked & after both thinking it was a lost cause I found exactly what I was seeking AND a bunch more things I had wanted to ask about but didn't want to give this employee a giant list! In a store with thousands of items to memorize, I was very impressed that they knew exactly where to go! I did not catch this employees name but they saved me a lot of searching, so thank you! Also, everyone I've ever encountered at the front has been so kind & helpful! During a previous visit, I overheard a guest becoming heated over a return, they were returning an item that this store did not carry, delicate situation, but this employee handled this guest beautifully, kept calm & was able to bring the guest into their calmness, what a skill! Each time I'm there I overhear this same sweet employee make someone's day & it's really refreshing to be checking out & overhear people being lovey to one another!
