How can this lovely, quaint, beautiful store get anything less than 5 stars on Yelp? I hope my review can, and will make a big difference on Yelp and on other people. Walked in today around 10:30AM and got a very nice welcome from both their employees Kay and Mary. Right away Kay wanted to know if she could help me find something. I wasn't sure what I really needed, but a few things caught my eye and I grabbed them. Got 2 scented candles in a glass. Both together was $53.98. I also saw couple of heart shaped candies that were so cute, but very expensive. I put them back. They had a lovely, pretty section for Easter. Grabbed a pack of light blue medium size paper plates count of 10. $10.50 and that's all I got on this visit. Paper Source is a good place to get all your arts and crafts fixes. From Stationary, to Wedding Invitations, Cards for any occasions, stuffed animals, stickers, artificial flowers, vases, wrapping papers, scrap books, Gifts/Gift Cards, Office Supplies, Custom Design, knick Knacks and a whole lot more. A very BIG store & a very EXPENSIVE store! Can get a bit dangerous. So watch your wallet. Store was fully stocked, organized, clean and only street parking. No restrooms for their customers. A fun place to browse, though mostly high prices. Definitely has unique gifts, including many adorable Jelly Cat plushies that are very popular. Large selection of heavy paper for fancy gift wrapping or even framing. Most were about $10 each. They had a sale on some cards for custom design, with practically every color imaginable, in their Paper Bar. I liked their book section and bought a children's book. In a back nook are kids' toys and rubber stamps for adults. Service is excellent and friendly. They have a free and premium frequent customer memberships, the latter for $30 a year. AND since Paper Source is affiliated with Barnes & Noble, I know where to use my B&N gift card! read more

I love Paper Source and was really excited that I stumbled upon this one! The women working here were really helpful and welcoming, and made sure I knew they were there to help. I love looking at the wide selection of things they sell, from cards to crafts to little trinkets. I found a few different packs of stickers that I ended up buying and overall the prices of them were great compared to a lot of other stores, especially for how unique they are. Takeaway: Saying "we never sell damaged items" is not realistic, and using that to deny a simple return while leaving it to manager "discretion", with no accountability, is concerning. When discretion is applied this way, it opens the door to unfair judgment and the potential for bias, including racial profiling. Seeing unfavorable reviews with the same theme is confirmation of poor management under Lynn. The manager Lynn, the heavy grey haired lady that the bad reviews are referring to confirms that my experience today isn't isolated. She was unprofessional, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. it felt more like being dealt with by a bully than helped by a manager. Experiences like this show that corporate should be auditing and retraining management. The Studio City location would clearly benefit. I came in with a receipt for a small ceramic item purchased 6 days ago. It was a gift and when I unwrapped it, I discovered it was cracked. What should have been straightforward return turned into a circular and frustrating conversation. I was told that Paper Source never sell damaged items and that everything is inspected before selling, (is that realistic? not possible), yet because they couldn't verify when the damage happened, they refused the exchange/return. How does that make any sense? So I was being denied a return for the exact reason I was making it. No logic. The round and round was mind numbing. It felt intentional and targeted. Confused and frustrated, I asked for the manager, Lynn, the situation escalated. She repeated the same nonsense and she eye rolled, I was talked over, dismissed, and when I told her that I sensed her micro-aggression, I was told to leave, that I was trespassing, and that the police would be called, all over a $16 item. A gift from my step daughter. It was stressful, excessive, and humiliating. It was absolutely surreal to experience such rudeness and gaslighting. Bewildered at what just happened, I checked to ask about exchange policy at Another Paper Source location and without hesitation, immediately said they would accept the return, no issue. Clearly the manager Lynn needs a refresh on the policy. BIG FAIL on the whole Barnes and Noble establishment for letting such an awful and inept person remain in charge of a store. Absolute bully. Get sourced at Paper Source, this stationary, card, gift and more store is located on the Southwest corner of Ventura Blvd and Vantage Avenue across from Starbucks and near a lot of shops and familiar businesses like Salt & Straw, Union Bank, Barnes & Noble, the CVSs and more in the city of Studio City. I stop in once an a while usually for small gift items for friends or fam, but often forget they sell some art supplies, miscellaneous barware items and even a few plants here. It can get a little price competitive, but they do have good deals around holidays for certain things and even back to school sales. I'd say while the price is probably not right (because it's high and marked up compared to places who offer some of what they carry), the quality is crazy right!! Anything you purchase will and does last you. The service is always friendly and the store is immaculate! instead of spending your money at this overpriced store, find a local shop and support small businesses! had a bad experience with one particular employee (lady with glasses & silverish hair), who happens to be the manager as well. she kept following me around the store (i'm a POC so i can't help but feel uncomfortable when i'm being followed around while shopping). she gave me attitude when i asked her a question about a product (which i only did so i could give her something to do instead of following me). i saw that she had attitude/was being rude with other customers in the store as well, if the store wants to succeed i would suggest replacing that lady, who clearly needs some customer service training. i've seen multiple reviews about her on here (yikes). i want to note the other employees, the one who greeted me and rang me up were very nice, i hope they are being treated right. read more

My wife wanted to visit this store while we were about to go walk to her face cleaning appointment. We parked across the street at a plaza with a bunch of stores and when my wife saw their windows display she wanted to walk in. This store is a decent size in the corner and have a lot of products to offer. My wife was mostly looking for a graduation card for her friend which she found here. The price is a little higher than other places but it's because it's a small store. They have other stuff as well besides just cards like some puzzle, games, books and etc. read more

Put a note on your effing front door if beverages aren't allowed in your store! Don't ostracize me when I step through your doors trying to buy $40 stuffed animals, over priced stationary and single sheets of $8 stickers because I have my matcha in hand!!! Very disappointed to say the least. It is overwhelming to shop here when you are being followed around by an older lady with glasses and told "omg, that looks so heavy, must be exhausting, let me take it to the counter." Definitely felt profiled and ruined my shopping experience. She followed me all around the store as if I was going to steal. It looks like I'm not the only one who's been through this. I like mailing them out because it feels more personal than an email or text expressing Thanks or anything quite frankly. I like receiving cards and love to give them even more. My good to brand, Papyrus, filed for bankruptcy. Paper source is the only decent and similar competition. If you like Papyrus and unique cards, come to Paper Source. Hall Mark feels like The Walmart of Cards to me for some reason. They just don't do anything for me. They don't feel unique or special. My dilemma: Hanukkah cards online were too expensive for a set of 10. I needed about 20 and spending 40+ on cards felt silly. They had assortments of Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and the Politically Correct "Happy Holidays" for those uncomfortable with naming holidays. This location has plenty of cards to choose from. The selection of Box Set's of 10 was great. Parking can be tough on the weekends and late evenings. read more

This was my first time at Paper Source. The store is so cute. But, when I came to buy a jellycat with my friend, we walked to the jellycat section. The jellycat my friend wanted was on the top of the rack so she did a little hop to get it. Then this staff named Lin yelled at us saying "LADIES! BE RESPECTFUL!" in a very cold and rude tone. An absolutely adorable stationery and gift shop. If you like all things paper -- stationery, gift wrap, notebooks, journals, pens, cards, books, calendars -- this is the store for you. There is also no way you can walk in here and not find a gift for someone. The giftwrapping service charge is a bit steep, but well worth it because they wrap gifts so very beautifully. The people who work in the store are very nice and very helpful without being in your face. Easy parking on Cantura St., one block south of Ventura Boulevard. To top it off, the store owner has a pug named Rizzo. As a pug owner myself, I appreciate the fact that I can bring my pug shopping with me at this beautiful little stationery shop. read more

After dropping lots of money over the course of several years, and more recently, back to back days, in there, yet again, to get more supplies--more paper to wrap the gift--all things I bought from them. They told me I couldn't wrap my own gift using their empty table because they provide the service for $8. I've been spending LOTS of money there for years, and after the rude treatment, I will never go back. This happened on Saturday the 9th of September around 1pm. An obese guy was working there with a heavy set lady. They clearly hated their jobs and loved being obnoxious. For the second week in a row I have driven out of my way to come to Paper Source and though online and the signage on their door says they should be open, they are closed. I recognize that the pandemic has left us with staffing shortages all over but at the very least please update your online platforms to dictate that you are closed so that I am not wasting gas and time trying to support your business. I had to run in for some last minute shopping. Everything is adorable and odds are you'll find something for just about anyone. I needed some nice holiday wrapping paper and left with a great selection and a bunch of other gifts. Most things are on the pricey (very pricey) side- but you get what you pay for- Top quality and great selection. Also the customer service was phenomenal! The lady helping me at check out was absolutely a delight! (I think her name was Emily?) She answered all my questions and offered more info that might be helpful and made sure my items were handled and packaged carefully. They seem to be following all safety measures, masks worn and are keeping store guests capacity low, they even did a head count while I was there to make sure. I'm an avid craft nerd. It is something I am proud of. Although I'm not that into scrap-booking, a craft store specializing in paper still brings me elevated levels of pleasures. Unfortunately, Paper Source is a prime example of a great concept but with poor execution. Exhibiting scrapbook paper, initiations, rubber stamps, letters/stencils, scissors/like supplies, and other random goodies such as owl aprons and little books; Paper Source has a very esthetically pleasing establishment. Assuredly, you can find anything you need for your craft paper needs here. Plus, Paper Source also features personalized invitation services where you look through a catalog to pick each facet of your invites: paper, font, colors, illustrations, etc. The major downside is the prices. Paper Source is much too expensive with most of the materials also available at far cheaper prices at Michael's. I saw products which I could create by hand (and better) at crazy-high prices. They must have a large overhead. So apparently, you need a large wallet. As for service? This is definitely a place where the other Yelp reviews are spot-on. Paper Source's "pretty" offerings are completely contradicted by its service. I walked into a store with only one other customer and yet there were 3 associates on duty. You would think that they could thus ask if I needed help or at least greet me. Did they? No. The three employees stood around the counter talking/gossiping and never acknowledging me, my boyfriend, or the other customer. Yet, the second it was near closing time, an employee suddenly appears to make sure we know they are about to close. Oh really Mr. Employee? You stood around doing absolutely no work but you are anxious to go home to continue to not do any work? Awesome! Paper Source isn't really worth much but being pretty on the eyes. I was a Karen in Paper Source and I apologize profusely. I was so proud of finally getting there about fifty minutes before the closed to get a piece of skeleton wrapping paper for my boyfriend and waited at the check out while the staff was milling about the store. As someone came to the register to check me out, I began to do some math. "We're actually closed." I strolled in ten minutes after closing. I had become what I hated. I apologized and thanked the cashier for being kind enough to check me out (probably because I wasn't yelling or saying, "Excuse you!"?). I showed him my purse filled with pills thanks to a new chronic pain condition and apologized further which was...weird. Maybe I just felt the beckon of the Karen? A taste of what my future could be? They have NO wedding gift bags! I thought I would splurge and go to The Paper Source. I was so sure they would have a lovely, fancy, beautiful bag to wrap a wedding gift in. I was very disappointed. I couldn't believe they had no wedding gift bags. I approached a female sales person and expressed my dismay since I had specifically driven over there thinking they would have something wonderful. I thought I had possibly missed the wedding/ anniversary section in the store. She was very dismissive of me. She actually said: "sorry you're disappointed-- and have a wonderful weekend! " She called out again, as I was walking toward the door, in her sing-song, "I could care less if you bought anything voice" to have a wonderful weekend! It was so transparently rude and an obvious kiss off. I had to turn on the way out and quietly say "your attitude isn't fooling anyone". I grant you they have some lovely wrapping papers in there and they do a very good job of wrapping gifts, if you want to spend between $30 and $45 for this service. This store has a great selection of paper but I will say it's extremely overpriced. One sheet of paper costs $6-$7, which could easily be found at MICHAELS or KELLY PAPER at a much more reasonable price. Customer service is lacking and return policy too strict. Certain items are listed as final sale in fine print. It's not worth it to shop here with so many other options out there. I would be a return customer as I will spend the money for certain nice things that come with good service. Unfortunately if the store had just worked with me on returning a couple items, I would be a happy customer, very willing to spend more here in the future. However, upon walking into the store I was unpleasantly approached by Nicole who immediately let me know I couldn't return my items as they are "always" last sale. When I tried to return 4 sheets of paper that I had purchased excess of for wedding invitations, there was absolutely no sympathy or understanding. Rather, Nicole said she had never even seen the prints I bought (2 weeks ago at this location), that they must be from another store, and that maybe I could make a lamp out of the paper since I couldn't return it. If not for her dismissive attitude the interaction could have been much less unsavory. As I mentioned previously - at these prices, it's just not worth it, which is sad because I've bought several items at the Paper Source at the Thousand Oaks Mall in the past couple years. In any customer service job the correlation between price and service needs to be recognized and delivered upon. I would expect this same service that Nicole provided from perhaps a Michael's (although Michael's employees are always very pleasant) or the card section at Vons.
