And if anyone knows me, I can dance...lol It's located in a mini mall on the South East corner of Sepulveda & Van Owen. Plenty of parking in the lot...Most items are under $2.00 hence the name. They have many celebratory items including balloons. There is a kitchen, beauty, household, arts & crafts, toy, and food section as well. Dollar King in Can nuys is one of my favorite dollar stores. All the stuff price isn't one dollar but it is still okay. You find so many nice party and house supplies here. Not the best customer service. Was charged extra for helium when I didn't even get my balloons filled just bought the balloons themselves deflated. Was told regardless by the person in charged at the moment a girl with glasses that I would get charged regardless and the least that can be done is it can be preordered. I brought one single ballon of Sonic to be inflated and they said NO. Because they were about to close. Mind you I was making a line for more that 5 minutes. I was there easily for half an hour buying other party supplies. Like I zero recommend this place for inflating ballons. Last time I also brought my own ballons and the girl exploded one and they didn't say sorry or refund me the exploted ballon. Very unprofessional. Store has good selection of merchandise, what is really bad is the people that worked there! Cashier got mad because I asked why some party supplies are more expensive than others and she rudely replied "is not my fault" which by the way should be tagged or something since the beginning... so customer knows how much is that specific item. Went into the store to buy 4 balloons. I was charged and was told to wait on the side for them to get inflated. I waited patiently, but it took them 20 mins to inflate them. As I wanted on the side for them to be inflated more and more customers came to the register I had to wait for everyone else to be charged and finally when no one else was in line after 20 mins of waiting I was finally serviced. I usually like this store. Everything is always $1.21. Except for yesterday. I went in and grabbed necessities, such as bleach, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap and toilet paper. When I got to the counter, the really kind young lady at the counter told me, " I'm sorry but we are charging $12.00 for the toilet paper, but everything else will be the regular price. Do you still want it?" She asked me, embarrassed. I was totally shocked. Bad quality, dollar store toilet paper. No wonder it didnt have a " 1 per person", sign on them. Pros: Good finds. Huge selections. Clean and organized. Cons: Parking is horrible and like many places in Van Nuys dirty and homeless people taking naps on the ground. If you have sensitivity to loud music be prepared. Their radio will be blasting and according to an employee they "can't control it" There's no way of telling who works there because they are in plain clothes. The line at the checkout is always long and crowded. You'll have to ask someone if they're in line or else you'll be behind someone who's shopping at the "good section" Yes they conveniently put some of their best items near the registers. I bought something that I thought was a dollar fifty and it was $9.99 totally not worth it, so I understand you can't get your money back so I was totally willing to exchange it for something else and I was willing to buy three candles and pay the difference because I was going over what I originally spent and she said "no you can't do that you have to find something in the store for the exact same price!! Love this place! I always find what I need and then some. You may not find anyone to help while walking through the aisles but it's not necessary because it's well organized and always very clean. They are great at being aware of the lines when they are getting long and always put the help in when needed so I never see anyone upset about lines getting too long. I usually shop for what I need to I'm in and out in 15 minutes 99% of the time. The employees are also very friendly and professional. read more

You can always find good stuff here. I often visit the dollar tree as well. Some things you can't find here, you can fine there and vice-versa. I do wish they had a better food/snack selection and card selection. The dollar tree has a lot more finds. Customer service is always great. Located in a plaza. Usually can find parking. I needed another 10 pack of these little plant pots for my class in addition to the one I had. The only other 10 pack of that size was missing 2. When I got up to the register I asked the girl if she would sell that pack to me discounted since it was missing a couple because I really needed all the pots to be the same size. She said she'd sell it to me for full price or not at all. ??? I said that didn't make sense since it wasn't my fault someone stole 2 from that pack and left it there. She was super rude and said then I won't charge you because I won't sell it to you. I asked to speak to the manager because it made no sense to me that they would rather take a loss of the whole item than get paid for the ones there. The manager was no help and instead of ANYONE figuring out the situation - they both leaned heavily on the policy which required no thinking at all and just took the item to send back . Honestly, there's another dollar king by my house and I'll go see if they have the same pots there but this experience was silly. I suppose there's no reason to think outside of the box when an item is $1.51 or to even be nice to someone wanting to buy it. I am giving 2 stars rather than one because I have shopped here on several occasions, but my last trip left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff is not discreet in talking/laughing about customers. A woman was counting her items to make sure she was charged correctly and frankly did hold up the line a little bit. The cashier whose name I didn't see- did not help her to speed it up and continued to roll her eyes and start to laugh with another employee who was standing near the register. Surprisingly, the 2nd employee did not go to the second register to charge the people waiting in line. AMAZING STORE WITH AMAZING ITEMS! They have a range of items like MAKEUP, crafting items, general food products along with gorgeous seasonal items that you can easily find at other stores for much more than just $1.11.
