This is the best Michaels in South Bay from far. So many cool things you can get here, so do not do like me and forget that coupon at home or let it hide behind that hole in your purse linen...get those coupons a real exit and bring home goodies to create, donate or just mindful-meditate while drawing or painting or putting colorful stickers in your neighbor's door. I was looking to spend the succulent gift certificate I got for my birthday buying a lot of little things to stretch the gift as much as I could but this time decided that I should splurge and get something I would not normally get, like expensive metal box of 'mobile watercolors' for trips and for lunch breaks at work when I feel inspired to paint. I found the brand of Jane Davenport and spent long time at the store checking all her items out. Got a pretty box of 'precious pearls' that for sure will last a long time. This Michaels store was a feast for my eyes and inspiration.

When we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and bustling scene. A knitting workshop was in full swing with about 15 women attentively listening to a presentation. It felt like a true hub for knitters. The store was neatly organized, with shelves full of beautiful yarn in all colors and textures. Alongside the yarn were various hand-knitted items available for sale. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a Sunday afternoon, the store was packed which, judging by the atmosphere, is probably the norm for them. My aunt approached the front desk and spoke with a staff member about her sweater. The woman was kind, informative, and wrote down helpful details about when their repair expert would be in. She even provided a business card for follow-up. Although we didn't make any purchases this time, I was impressed by how well-stocked and inviting the store was. As someone who doesn't knit, I could still see how this would be a dream spot for any knitting enthusiast offering not just supplies, but community and expertise. 5 out of 5 - for the welcoming vibe, knowledgeable staff, and well-organized space. If I ever take up knitting, this is where I'd go.

FabMo is a wonderful community resource that I wish more people knew about. Run by a cadre of…read moremostly women volunteers, this organization rescues discontinued samples from upscale design showrooms in San Francisco. Housed in a small Sunnyvale warehouse, the organization says that each year, they keep about 70 tons (!) of material from going to the landfill. FabMo hosts regular sales open to the public as well as biannual "free giveaway" events. Customers can find tile, carpet, textile fabrics, wallpaper and more. Many materials are provided for free to teachers and there are also donations from the local community. Quilting fabrics, silk fabrics, jewelry making items, sewing notions, leather, decorations and much, much more are offered for sale in person or online through the FabMo eBay store. The only thing I wish that FabMo would do is to develop a partnership with WomenSV - a non-profit group based in the neighboring town of Los Altos. WomenSV helps women get out of abusive relationships. A little known fact about California family law is that, while the legal process is ongoing, individuals are prohibited from selling or using community property to make money. This allows for a continuation of financial abuse by the more powerful partner as they can delay the legal process indefinitely. In my own case, the divorce has been going on for three years as my ex has blocked me from accessing funds that are legally mine. Thanks to the low and no-cost materials I got from FabMo, I have been able to make and sell small craft items in order to buy groceries and obtain veterinary care for my service dog. As FabMo already hosts regular crafting lessons, I wonder if FabMo could somehow do community outreach to provide materials and teach skills to women trying to leave their abusers. Even people who have already managed to escape could benefit from the amazing work that the FabMo volunteers do. They're so successful at saving materials - - wouldn't it be great they could be a part of saving lives. Thanks, FabMo!

WOW! My new favorite shop! Dried to come during Covid and they'd closed and I only stumbled upon it…read moreaccidentally this time while on my way to the Apricot Stand that's across the street. GIFTS: I was so shocked at all the gift options in this place! And I almost didn't go in because it's located INSIDE the community senior center. But I found the things they sell remind me of what you'd find at Cranberry Hill, nice quality, only this shop is smaller and the prices are lower. Gifts for ME too...lol. Given the pricing and cute stuff, I might have (definitely did) buy a few things for myself too. EASY TO FIND: Anyway, it was easy to find, they had a sign. You just turn right as soon as when you walk in the double doors and they're right there. The center is that huge lot by the duck park, and the senior center is at the far back of the lot. PRICES: They really have a wide range of pricing because of their selection so I feel I can easily find something price appropriate for the person I'm buying for. They had a ton of small things under $5 (even $2 and $3 dollar things) like little mats for under your coffee mugs, but higher end like the amazing colorful hand knit scarf I bought...for myself. It was hand knit with that extra thin yarn...a million stitches and only $45?! Bring on fall! CARDS?! What? YES and so cheap (good riddance Hallmark). Tons of cards like those high end Papyrus ones at the store that are more like a part of the gift, only these started at only $3.50 a card. Crazy. HAND-CRAFTED: Sometimes I think "church bizarre" when I hear that, but they said everything in there was hand made and it looked so professional to me. SELECTION: They fit a lot of stuff in that little shop. Candles, paper art, purses/bags, jewelry and lots of beaded things, knit things, towels, even children's stuff, and a ton of hand sewn gifts like placement settings, and cup holders, etc. Even some of the jewelry (Pom-Pom key chains and seed bead stuff) were teen friendly, along with some of the fairytale paper art boxes. TWO CRAFT FAIRS: They were advertising a craft fair and said they do two a year, in May and November and that it's supposed to be huge with tons more stuff, so I'll be heading back for that. MEN: Honestly, this seems is a great place to men to find gifts for the various ladies in their lives.

This place is awesome! Everything is handmade and good quality. I especially like the stuff with…read morethe LX label inside.

It took us some time to learn how to use the tufting guns properly and it felt like they were understaffed. It would've been nice to have more guidance throughout the process, like if we had any questions we had to wait a very long time for a staff member to be available to help. The seating for tufting is also very close together and it can get a little cramped. But as I mentioned earlier, we were very happy with our finished rugs. After we finished tufting, it took them about an hour to finish them off and we were able to take them home the same day. We also did decoden, which was fun! I was impressed by the charm collection, but it was very hard to find letter charms since they were all mixed up and scarce. Overall, the crafts turned out great, just disappointed by the service. I understand that it was a weekend evening and it wasn't the staff's fault, they were all very kind and understanding. Just understaffed! With tufting especially, having more staff available to help throughout the process if needed would make this experience much more enjoyable.

The employee with black hair and glasses came across as rude toward another customer, speaking in a condescending manner and appearing to assume the customer was a scalper. Watching this interaction felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. When other customers tried to ask questions, the same staff member was dismissive and rolled his eyes a few times, which made the overall atmosphere feel unwelcoming. A store like this should feel fun and inviting, especially for collectors and fans who are genuinely excited to be there. That said, I want to be clear that I do like this store overall and have had positive experiences with other staff members in the past, who have always been friendly and helpful. This particular interaction stood out in an unfortunate way and left me feeling disappointed. I hope management takes this feedback into consideration and addresses the situation, because this type of behavior is not okay and takes away from what should be a positive experience.
