The parking situation is great as the parking lot is rarely packed and has large spots for those with bigger vehicles. As you walk up to the storefront, you'll see through the clear glass windows a plethora of colors and patterns with some sample quilts hanging out for display. Step foot through the doors and you'll be sent into a world of fabrics infused with aisles of colors, textures, accessories, and resources to help level up your quilting skills. And within a few minutes, we were greeted by their staff to provide any guidance or assistance navigating their wares. We were only browsing on this occasion but for those in search of quilting accessories, this is a haven with a variety of fabrics for you to choose from in order to piece together the next masterpiece. We spent a good 15 minutes just perusing the store and all the knickknacks that were available. The samples hanging on the walls were inspiring! The prices seemed reasonable and with the raw materials being affordable and accessible for making such beautiful pieces of art is probably a good reason this hobby still exists. I think what stands out is the quality of the fabrics as the texture and feel of them definitely seem more durable and sustainable than what you'd get through an online store. Overall, The Granary Quilt Shop keeps the quilting community thriving with their shelves full of fabrics and quilting accessories. The team members here are seasoned vets in the hobby and are extremely friendly to support your quilt making needs. A specialty shop with a brick and mortar presence is a fading trend but this shop has clearly made its mark, has a good following among its local community members, and continues to bring in new customers with sales and family activities. For being around for nearly a decade, this shop is a beacon for the quilting community!

FabMo is not closed! They survived the pandemic, and are open 2 weekends a month and even have an online store. I can't say enough good things about this organization. I discovered them over a decade ago when I was looking for cheap materials for my fashion design summer camp programs and I found plenty of goodies for that purpose. In addition, I wound up getting personally inspired by their incredible offerings and soon started making jewelry and other accessories from them. I now have a small side business from that as a result, and I hate to miss a FabMo event. The founders and volunteers are some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic people I know and truly seem to take pleasure at each square of fabric or piece of material that gets "re-homed" and saved from the landfill. A dedicated team drives to the Design Center in SF every Monday and loads up a truck with bags full of discarded but amazing pieces of fabric, tile, carpet, leather, tassels, trims and other amazing stuff and then other teams of volunteers sort, measure, price, organize and help customers during the days they are open to the public-which is currently 2 weekends a month. Eventually I started volunteering there myself. Helping FabMo sort the amazing fabric that comes in from reminds me of being a kid on Halloween night when you get back from trick or treating and dump out the contents of that candy sack and sort through your haul. It's so much fun! A lot of FabMo materials are small(ish) but often exquisite samples and remnants of home decor-type material but those pieces are perfect for so many great projects. And they are increasingly getting larger pieces of more garment-weight materials. The bigger pieces are priced but the prices are always a great deal-and the best thing is that you never know what treasures you will find. Go and prepare to be inspired! read more

These threads are not available in hobby-type stores or fabric stores. The showcase of designs here is outstanding and artfully displayed. You can expect to see seasonal designs so it is worthwhile to stop in frequently. You can also expect thoughtful and professional advice. Classes are offered and you can join the email list to be informed of upcoming classes and trunk shows. The shop is conveniently located, fronting on Santa Cruz Avenue. There is ample street parking, but i suppose it is best to time your visits.The neighborhood becomes quite busy at lunch time. I am thankful to have found Old World Designs. My experience here was rewarding and the environment is inviting.

When I asked about a specific canvas, I was told it was not available. I mentioned that the website showed it in stock and had an active add-to-cart option. The response I received was unexpectedly dismissive and in a condescending tone. The woman behind the counter said: "Amazon has trained you to expect things you see online to be in stock," followed by an explanation that their website does not really support online orders, at least not yet. I completely understand that inventory systems and websites don't always match. Had this simply been explained in a straightforward way, I would likely have purchased a different design/kit while I was there. Instead, the interaction felt condescending and uncomfortable enough that I chose not to continue shopping. For a hobby that relies on welcoming and guiding newcomers, tone matters. This was not my first experience with needlepoint, but I can easily see how it could discourage someone just getting started. Because of this experience, I won't be returning. I'd recommend new stitchers seek out another local store where questions are encouraged and customers feel comfortable spending time (and money).

After I heard nothing back, called today after being lucky enough to find SilverLeaf's # on Google and thinking they could help. Well, so turns out the Teak House gal is on vacation and Jim at SilverLeaf was kind enough to go into the back area to find the buddha for me. He not only gave me a better deal, but also rang up the purchase, wrapped it, and keep it at the front for the birthday girl to pick up this afternoon. I called up Mom and said 'Swing by to pick up your buddha!' Later, she told me that one of the little horns had broken off by the time she got home, not sure how this affects the luck-bringing of the buddha but we figure it's even more unique now. Why can't all birthday purchases be as pain-free as this one?? SilverLeaf comes through for us with some buddha love...check this place out next time you are moseying down The Alameda. BTW their address is 1343 The Alameda...not the old Lincoln address that is still shown on the business listing.
