I came here rather than going to a big-box craft store, which I've been wanting to do for a while, and I was so pleasantly surprised by the selection and by the service provided by the staff! Drove over to fabrix on a Monday and it happened to be the Clement street fair at the exact same time, luckily I found parking really quickly and proceeded to go inside to find my felt and embroidery supplies for the felt ornaments I'd been wanting to make for Christmas this year. I had NO clue what I was looking for and I'm so grateful to the staff for helping me find everything and being patient with me throughout the whole process. It was quiet in the shop at first but quickly became busy, but I honestly didn't mind waiting in line for my turn because the staff gave the same amount of time to me as they did to everyone in front of me in line. I was kind of surprised at how inexpensive the whole purchase was, after she showed me my total, because I hadn't checked the prices of anything. Most of the fabrics was labeled with a price but it's one of those stores that has so much inventory that it's not easy to see the prices of everything if you're someone like me with awful vision and a stubbornness not to get glasses Anyway, I highly recommend this local fabric store!! I'm a City kid but now live in Marin. I was recently looking for a local fabric store in Marin. Sadly, there are few remaining within easy driving. For me that means: no Bay Bridge or Richmond Bridge these days. I "google" searched and found Fabrix located on Clement St in the Inner Richmond (between 6th and 5th Ave.) There, I easily found exactly what I was looking for in just a short time. The selection is not huge so you might want to call ahead with your questions. I needed cotton and silk. they did have both. Also the salesperson was extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend a trip there, despite the parking difficulty on Clement. (Hint, nearby is a "Smart and Final" with a parking lot!) read more

I remember the original Fabrix used to be a bigger store on Clement. I haven't been to this store since my wedding planning days. I dropped by today to kill time. They have a lot of fabrics, including fancy fabric for prom dresses. They also sell notions. I picked up so lace trim for 50 cents a yard. Very good quality. Service was friendly. The staff took out multiple rolls of fabric and compared the colors and thickness for me. This beautiful shop with myriads of fabrics and trim feels Dickensian. I was so indecisive choosing ribbon for my Christmas wreath their choices were so tempting and beautiful. My husband had the same problem choosing upholstery fabric. It isn't a large store and that makes it charming and well worth the trek. The customer service is warm and helpful oh and patient. I feel so lucky to have this fabric store so nearby, especially as there are so few in the city. The staff is wonderful, very knowledgeable and helpful but they will also give you space while you are browsing so just ask them if you need something. They've really expanded their notions section recently so have a ton of ribbon, trimmings, etc. Always some interesting fabric so definitely snag something if you like it because once it's gone it's gone. read more

Do not shop here the workers are uneducated on their fabrics fiber content and if you don't know your fibers they will sell you anything. I asked for 100% wool and they sold me a wool mixed with acrylic. See if you can do a burn test on these fabrics before leaving so you do not get finessed there are better fabric stores with workers who are actually educated on the fabrics they receive and sell. Need of some fabric for a project with the kids. During covid-19 seems several of these spots are closed or curbside only, I have an order pending at Joanns since early June 2020. Just for 4 yards of fabric. I was able to walk in pick all the fabric I needed and start my projecta with the kids. The staff is very helpful, all fabric labelled with price and name. I would rather drive out of the way and come here then go to another fabric store. New owners seem friendly, if not a bit useless; And I don't mean unhelpful. One lady tried her best to offer me exactly what I was after, and when she knew Fabrix didn't have it, she directed me to Mendel's down the street. This is a little store that will suit some needs for swatching, imprecise sample making, and costumes. I enjoy coming in here to look and touch fabrics up close that I don't see other places. For fashion, however, they were out of so many things today... no muslin and a tiny supply of notions. The zippers were pretty meager, too, although I was happy to see someone wisened up, and organized and labeled them from the fishbowl of loose zippers that had been over there before. The last time I felt snarky about a fabric store near me--Discout Fabrics in Outer Sunset--it up and closed. And I became painfully aware of how few stores serviced the avenues for fabric supplies. So I want Fabrix to stay in business. I overheard a regular customer engaging the owners about how the landlord hadn't lowered the rent. Which is b.s. Help this business stick around! But I can say the people running the store were friendly, helpful and even fun, and it was pretty busy. I really want this store to succeed and stay in the neighborhood. I used to shop here regularly because there were always gems to find--inexpensive fabric that could sew up into something that looked nicer than what I actually spent. The store always had discontinued quilting cotton patterns for cheap, as well. It is not so cheap, anymore. I understand that rent might always be going up. If this store is going to last, it may want to think about transitioning into a different type of fabric store. The Richmond District has gotten more expensive so it is probably time for a fabric store to match the hood. Only offer inexpensive, older fabric when it is a real find that will stitch into a garment (Or blanket) that tricks people's eyes. Meanwhile, the store is still good. It just could be better. There's a sense that the original owners understood fabric and the new owners have a learning curb needed to conquer. read more

This is my new favorite fabric store in the SF area. I had a "go to" store in San Jose, but to be honest it was literally packed to the gills with rolls of fabric and unless you have a few free hours, it was quite intimidating and sometimes the chemical smell coming off some of the fabric would always cut my trip short. But Fabrix is different, it may not be packed to the gills, but I not only found some nice fabric, the prices were crazy good. There was a time when people sewed to save money, but with fabric being so expensive, that is no longer the case. Now you sew because you want something different, fits well or you just like to sew, because fabric and patterns are just crazy expensive. Enter Fabrix, if I lived in the area, I would sew all the time. For $49 I got enough fabric to make more than 5 summer dress originals. The woman who probably owns the store was super helpful, friendly and patient. She measures fabric the old school way, chest to arms length end, although she is kinda short, so I have to wonder if it was a full yard, but with the prices so cheap, who cares. I bought so much fabric, I had to take stuff out of my second checked bag, so look for me in some creative t-shirt dresses this summer. read more

I wanted to love this place but as someone mentioned here I was not very well received at this store. I went to buy buttons. I was told they weren't selling buttons because of covid. I kindly asked why and said if she showed me green buttons I could point to it and she could hand me the buttons - note that before you touch anything at the store you need to use hand sanitizer! Her reply was: "this is not how people shop at this store" as if I looked like a customer that shopped at a different type of stores and "it's hard to sanitize buttons". First I wouldn't even need to touch a single button - I could point- but is fabric any easier to sanitize than buttons? And why do you make customers then sanitize their hands? Clearly they didn't want to sell buttons to ME. So I will take my business to other local stores that want to sell me whatever I want to buy. read more

Despite there being nobody else in the store, they spent the entire time I was there chit chatting instead of engaging in any semblance of customer service, despite me asking for help multiple times. OMG....I stumbled upon this fabric store after eating at Burma Superstar. What a great find. I found some cute cotton fabric at $3.99 a yard. Well all the prices are $3.99 except some are lower or higher, but mostly $3.99. The selection is not huge, but if you find cotton you like I would suggest getting a lot of it to make it worth the drive. The notions are also super cheap. This place is a fun treasure trove for sew-ists (autocorrect keeps changing "sew-ists" to sexists...go figure). No, it's no Britex, but the prices are low and you never know what you might find...but you have to be ready for the hunt. No, there's no easy way to buzz right in and grab exactly what you want fabric-wise. Keep an open mind and put a few extra coins in that parking meter... I sew clothing and what I have found are great cottons (pinpoint and shirting weights) for $3.99 a yard, denims of all descriptions ($3.99-$5.99) and on occasion some beautiful wools (can be up to the $20 a yard range, but this is 100% wool that would easily be twice the price elsewhere). They also have some beautiful upholstery fabrics at the front of the store. Yes, there are a lot of bolts of scary, garish polyesters that are dirt cheap. Just ignore those and keep ploughing on. They have some notions, interfacing and elastics, which are great to keep your project humming along. They have a small selection of things like sewing machine needles and tailor's chalk. The button section is a giant sandbox-like thing which will keep you busy for awhile (try sifting through buttons with your hands, it's hypnotic). The staff is a range of folk...some quite helpful, some a little indifferent, but I can't say I've ever had bad service here. They accept credit cards, even for small purchases (which is appreciated when you just stopped by for some elastic and forgot to bring cash). With Satin Moon permanently closed up the street, I truly appreciate having a fabric store like this in the 'hood. read more

Fabrix is awesome. I needed an outfit for New Year's Eve and couldn't find anything off the rack that I liked. As a last resort I thought I'd DIY something. I never thought I'd talk about my undies on the internet but I'm SO impressed by the quality (and price) of fabrics I bought here that I have to share. I found a gorgeous piece of lace in the clearance bin for 50 cents (!!) and bought 10 yards of matching ribbon (I ended up using $3 worth). The total cost of my project--including clasps and a new sewing kit--was UNDER 10 DOLLARS! $10 for a lace bodice, garter, AND undies. Even the absolute cheapest store bought lingerie set would have cost at least twice that! And the lace is QUALITY--silky smooth, a bit of shimmer. It's 10x softer than anything I have from Victoria's Secret. I shared a picture of the bodice (on a dress form) so you can see how high-end it looks. 10/10 experience at Fabrix. Staff is awesome, selection is fantastic, prices can't be beat. Whatever you're planning on making, pick up one of Fabrix's travel sewing kits, too. They're $6.50 and have EVERYTHING you could possible need including scissors and a rotary cutter. read more

I've been here once with my service dog in training and they were very kind and patient! They have a bin with 2-4 yards of fabric for like maybe 3 dollars at most! There was a really nice lady who helped me and one who was cutting my fabric who looked scary angry. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by because I needed some fabric to make part of my costume for my dance class. The lady who helped me was nice and showed me the different color options that I could choose from. I didn't need a whole yard, but that's the minimum that can be cut. So, the fabric I chose was $2.89/yd and including tax my total came out to $3.14. The store is fairly small, but they have a decent selection and the staff is helpful. I'm thankful that I didn't have to go all the way to Joann's. Definitely glad that I can count on this place! read more

My one star review is for the Asian lady who works there, this lady was walking around the store haranguing random customers about our current political state. She would stop people and ask them their political affiliations, I kindly told her to buzz off in which case she gave me the cold shoulder the entire time I was in there. Business owners, it is entirely unprofessional to push political agendas and confronting random customers about their points of view, if you only want certain customers in your store please post a sign but otherwise some of us go out in public with the presumption that we would not be bothered by crap like this! read more

It was raining and I didn't want to make the drive to Fabric Outlet in the Mission as I live in the Richmond. Upon entering, the staff did not greet, and after 10-15 min, did not ask if I needed help. When I finally picked a fabric I wanted, I walked over to one of the staff-person and without saying anything, the first thing she said to me was - "We don't give out swatches." What? What a way to make someone feel unwelcome but also discriminated against... I told myself to shrug it off and wanted to support my neighborhood, so I continued to shop. I then asked a question about zippers - answer was "everything is out there." (Didn't answer my question.) I then asked for a suggestion on a specific type of fabric and the reply was - over there in the bin, choose one and bring it here." I agree with the previous reviewer - they REALLY could not care less. Yikes. I learned my lesson and will just continue to make the drive to the Mission (or any other fabric supplier in the city). read more
