Yummy in my tummy
Ki L.

Didn't expect to find some seriously delicious Chinese beef noodles during my Honolulu trip, but Mian was a great surprise. Today has been a back to back food win. Earlier, I had some amazing poke and sushi, and now this. The beef was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. The noodles had that perfect chewy texture I love, and the broth was rich, flavorful, and comforting. Definitely the kind of bowl you keep going back to until you realize it's gone. And most importantly, they have my water of life: Diet Coke. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and informative, which made the experience even better. Location is convenient too. There's a Sam's Club and Walmart nearby, and Ala Moana isn't far either. Great unexpected find in Honolulu. I'd absolutely come back for another bowl.

Braised beef soup noodles, house beef pancake roll, and house beef soup noodles in the back
Hailley O.

This was my first time dining at Mian and it was such a comforting meal! My boyfriend got the house beef soup noodles and I believe I got one of the braised beef soup noodles. The soup was really tasty with a nice spice and kick to it, and the braised beef in mine was so tender and almost melt in your mouth! I also liked the chewiness of the noodles. We also got the house beef pancake roll to share, which was pretty good. I especially liked the freshness of the vegetables inside and how they added a nice crunch to the pancake. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went, with only a few other tables occupied, so the service was fast and efficient. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal and wouldn't mind coming back again!

Cheesy Eggplant Bliss

Decided to try their new item, cheesy eggplant bliss. Fried eggplant with a drizzle of sweet soy glaze and shredded cheese. It's crispy, creamy, sweet, and salty-good for sharing. After seeing all the reviews for the cold noodle, I decided to try it with rice noodles, a side order of their delicious beef which reminds me of Mian and Bao's beef, a marinated egg, and their spicy fungus. Would definitely order again. Their egg was perfectly cooked, nice and jammy in the middle. It was a lot of food that reheated well the next day. I found it to be spicy in the sense of warming, and flavorful but not searing off your mouth. Definitely get this with their mung bean soup. It is cold, sweet, and refreshing. Parking: there is a rotating lift with an attendant. I would suggest bringing cash, as other means are not always available. Parking was $2 for the time we were there.

Good Chinese food! But we feel it was better before. Food - 3/5 We got the slow-braised beef noodles, pancake beef rolls, and pork dumplings. The pancakes were nice and crispy. The noodles were nice and bouncy and the meat was tender and flavorful. The dumplings were good but they weren't as flavorful as we remember them to be. Service - 5/5 Friendly service! Easy ordering via website. Ambiance - 5/5 Cute modern Chinese restaurant! We parked at Walmart and walked over.

Really enjoyed our meal at Mian! The food was flavorful, fresh, and had a really nice amount of spice. The portions were good and everything came out tasting great. Definitely a good spot if you're craving authentic Szechuan flavors and noodles. We'll be coming back!

Sichuan Hot & Sour Noodles, mung bean drink

Parking: small lot near building, street parking, parking in Walmart parking lot (at your own risk) Service: table service. With QR code on table that you input your order into. Ambiance: casual Food: a great place to satisfy Szechuan cravings. Would recommend getting their spicy dumplings (so good). Also tried their sweet potato noodles and it was like a more chewy rice noodle. Would also recommend getting their mung bean drink (with free refills) that goes well with their spicy dishes.

Delicious noodles are made in house! Their mild spice is fairly spicy and was just right for me. I also loved the steamed egg dish with meat. My friend ordered for me, so I don't know the names of the dishes we had, but along with the noodles with peanut sauce and steamed egg, we had a dumpling in a sweet/spicy chili oil that was amazing! The dumplings were chewy and flavorful leaving my mouth so happy! I couldn't stop eating them and inhaled 3 or 4 although I was already pretty full from the other dishes. I can't wait to go back for more dumplings!

So good! Always gotta order the dumplings and house beef noodle. Just the perfect amount of spice!

This is our go to spot. Reasonable price and good quality of food, things are always good here

House Beef Noodles

The authentic Chinese noodles! So great! And really delicious! If passing by here, come in and enjoy noodles!

The noodles are springy, releasing a wheat aroma when bitten into, and they do not turn mushy in the broth. The soup base is smooth and rich, savory yet not greasy, with just the right saltiness to coat every strand. There are only a few garnishes, but they complement the dish perfectly. Slurp a mouthful of noodles and take a sip of soup, and warmth slowly travels down your throat into your stomach.

This is exactly how mapo tofu should be!!! Served with both noodles and rice at the same time. The tofu is so incredibly tender--almost like the texture of noodles. Absolutely perfect!

House Beef Noodles
Rachel C.

The house-made beef noodles and gyoza mixed with chili oil were quite tasty, there's not much interaction with the service other than your food coming out and paying for the bill. Other than that once you're seated you scan the QR code to view the menu and place your order. The restaurant is nice, clean, and evenly spaced out. There is street parking and parking located T other areas around the restaurant. Portion sizes are generous and will fill you up.

Ask the Community - Mian

Do I need a reservation for dinner?

We've not made reservations to dine here. However, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead to make reservations; that way, you won't be stressed or disappointed if you happen to come in when there's a crowd, and they can't accommodate you as a walk-in.

Where is the parking for this restaurant?

They have onsite parking. Valet service to an elevator parking system. If you get lucky nearby street parking is possible, but many simply park at Sam's Club and walk over.

Is this place byob?

Yes. They don't have a liquor license.

Is there a on-line menu to Order takeouts?

Yes they were ahead of the curve with app ordering in the restaurant before the shutdown... order on app food comes paid only one contact by server ... these are not Chinese but Cali Chinese franchise Szechuan ramen noodles great

Is the restaurant reservation only, or are walk in accepted?

You can walk in

Does the broth use MSG are there any no MSG options?

Has anyone been there recently? I thought Mian closed a while ago? But I see some recent reviews so now I'm confused!

It reopened since May 2019!

Do they serve tian shui mian (aka sweet water noodles)?

I have been there several times and have never notice that item that on the menu. If I did I would have tried it.

Do they serve things on the menu that are NOT spicy?

Yes ! Lots of non spicy noodle soups and also appetizers

When is the Chengdu Tasty is gonna reopen?

According to our waiter tonight, in one month. 👍

Anyone know what type of noodles they use? And where did they get their noodles? Thanks!!

Mian uses at least two types of noodles: one is very thin and silky - very much like Japanese somen, the other is their House Noodles which is more firm, has a much better chew, and stands up much better in the hot soups that they are served in.…

Do they use MSG in their food?

Yes , but not all ,we use MSG as less as we canon ,we do have thick chicken broth to instead ,can request for NO MSG

Everything was so incredibly flavorful and delicious! The stir fry was so complex (flavor-wise) with the right amount of spice from the chilis. The garlic fried rice was tasty and paired great with the stir fry. The spicy pork dumplings actually made my jaw drop for a second. The pork was so flavorful! We were sat instantly, the food came out quickly, and the wait staff were attentive and friendly. I also liked how lowkey it was inside--it made for a calm, relaxing dining experience. This time, however, it almost seemed as though they drastically altered their spice levels or changed something because our food tasted both different and nonexistent in spiciness -- not what you'd desire and expect when eating Sichuan food. We ordered the stir-fried eggplant + green beans and a beef dry pot and as aforementioned, both contained the dry peppers but zero spiciness. I know it's called a "dry" pot, but this is the first place I've had it where it was actually 100% dry with no sauce/oil on the bottom at all. Usually, I like to dip or at least mix the contents with the sauce/oil but since there wasn't any, the dish was just too dry and felt like it was lacking. The same to be said with the eggplant dish. Maybe just stick to the hotpot/broth dishes, but even then, I'm not confident. The exact dish I got last time doesn't appear to be served anymore; but a variation of it is, which is their fish in stone pot? I remember it being mouth-numbing spicy and delivering in the classic Mala/Sichuan tastes. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back again despite it conveniently located in Ala Moana.

They also seem to have renovated, with a much more spacious and modern interior. We've tried the Boiled Fish and Pickled Cabbage with rice, Wuwei Spicy Beef Noodle, and Fried Noodle (rice noodle). You get to choose what type of noodles you want. The first time, I ordered the Boiled Fish and asked for mild spice, but it was so spicy I could barely finish it and ended up just eating the fish and leaving the rest. Such a shame because I was craving those sour and spicy flavors and wanted to pair the soup with rice, but I definitely wasn't expecting the mild level to be THAT spicy. My bf, on the other hand, can handle really spicy food and ordered the spicy level for his beef noodles, but his wasn't that spicy at all. We wondered if the spice levels got mixed up, but I've seen other reviews mentioning that even the mild level for the Boiled Fish is really spicy, so maybe that's just how it is... The boiled fish soup was also oilier than what I've had elsewhere. For the Wuwei Spicy Beef Noodle, since we ordered takeout, the beef came separately with its own marinade. I wouldn't recommend pouring the marinade into the noodle soup because it completely overpowers the original spicy broth. The beef itself was perfectly tender, though! The Fried Rice Noodle was really good, and we had no complaints! It also came in a HUGE portion that was plenty for the two of us. Both times, I was craving Szechuan flavors and rice noodle dishes, and these definitely hit the spot! I wouldn't say I'm in love with everything we tried, but overall, the food was really good and worth satisfying those cravings.

He told me not to order the pork buns because the noodles are huge. I'll try to stuff myself and I won't enjoy the food, "I want you to enjoy" he said. He also asked how much spiciness I preferred and at first I said none, but he suggested I add at least a little spice because of the way it mixes with the food and brings out the flavor. Later I overheard him talking to a group of young adults about how he doesn't serve a particular type of food because the quality and the texture of the meat wasn't good enough. When I was done with my noodles, I decided to order the buns and take it home to eat later. He said, "Oh no... if you take it home and put it in the refrigerator... it will become dry and you won't enjoy it." That's the first time I've ever heard of someone refusing money because he's worried about me enjoying my meal and the taste of his food. I said to him it was "perfect". He was right. It was big. I was tempted to take half of it home, but I thought about how it would taste differently if I put it in the fridge. So...
