I bought my Subaru here and have been having it serviced here for the past 4 years... and in my opinion, the service department has deteriorated to the point where I will seek another dealership for my next maintenance. Yesterday, I dropped the car off at 7:30am and received a call at 5pm saying the car was "ready" but it needed about 3 major repairs done -- meaning I needed to come back for another appointment. What?? What didn't they call me during the day when the car was on the lift to get permission? "Oh, sorry about that" Are you kidding me? They have an online form to request an appoint - don't bother - nobody responds to it. Also, nobody returns voicemails at service so don't bother leaving one - just keep calling back until you reach someone live (and good luck on that!). It's just too much of a hassle. read more

Short version- Poor sales experience, who needs that? No service experience but we will not be using them for service based on the sales. This was in May of 2013. The Saga: My previous car had a high repair bill due, so my wife and I made a business decision to roll the repair potential into a new car. We wanted a Subaru Forester, having family and others who drove and liked it. We were paying cash and went through USAA and TrueCar.com to make it all clean and easy. Within 30 seconds of my wife hitting "send" to TrueCar, my phone range. Diane was on it, just awesome. We have your car! Great, see you tonight, a Tuesday. That was the high point. Our salesman was Marc Soloway, nice enough guy but not very tuned in to customer needs. More about the traditional "building a relationship" school of sales. OK, fair enough. We came in and the car was there in all but color, no big deal. Did a test drive, all ok, cool. Let's close the deal. We added a few things, some protective trim, a tow bar and ball hitch. The math on the ball hitch did not add up to what the TrueCar estimate had, was about $150 more, fine, you have to make a buck back. Just did not sit well. There was some apparent inter-departmental war going on between sales and the business office. We were in the middle of negotiating the very few details mentioned above. A business manager comes down and plops a bunch of paperwork between we the customers and Marc, the salesman. Marc rolls his eyes, we were annoyed at the distraction, very unprofessional. We agreed to pick up the car on Friday, needed it without fail, we had weekend plans. Came in at 2 PM and they were running late. Fine, that happens. We have a bank check, the old plates, the old registration. MetroWest Subaru had our insurance agent number and claimed to have the insurance info and all registry documentation ready to go. Was not the case. No one called the insurance guy and it is 3:30 on a Friday. Just barely made it. Was to be inspected there, but no, they said we have seven days, better if we do it. OK., fine. We need the registration MetroWest provides as a Registry agent. Was not printed out, they would FedEx it. Never arrived. They emailed it instead, crooked and without critical information such as the complete VIN which was one-quarter off the sheet. We had to ask for it again and got grief. Instead of, "oh, sorry, I will send you a clean copy", I got, "what do you mean it is crooked? What is missing? Can I read it to you?" As if the registration, hand written, is universally accepted. Just...odd. And unnecessary. When the paperwork failed to arrive, we put a hold on the credit card payment we used as the deposit. That got their attention and not a few phone calls from their business office. We were clear and firm- you promised paperwork several times, can you please deliver so we can get the car inspected and go with it? We see other reviews more recent and that is great, what we expected, but is consistency that difficult? In the end, we got the car and paperwork, but the hassle factor for what was a clean cash sale left us on empty. Given a choice, beyond any warranty issues, we will not go back. read more

We bought an '06 Outback wagon at MW Subaru. We've had nothing but headaches with the service department since we got it. We've had more than one case where the car had to go back twice to actually fix the problem. The service manager doesn't return calls, either. The last straw was a $104 charge to reset the Check Engine light. The service advisor told us it was a steep charge to prevent us from taking it somewhere else for the actual fix, despite the fact that ALL of the service has been done there. (Which was a loose gas cap.) I really wouldn't recommend shopping there. read more

Totally scammed. Told me my credit was 118 points lower than it actually was and used bogus "printed" credit reports which should be illegal. I got home, checked my credit and was so angry that they lied! Buyer beware! Bring your credit report with you OR secure financing on your own. We are long time Subaru owners. We just bought our fourth Subaru. The experience at MetroWest Subaru was total frustration. The initial sales person was rude, condescending and refused to answer questions. We requested a new sales person who was knowledgeable about the car but was clueless on the administrative process to complete the purchase. The finance guy was a total shark. He tried to bundle a maintenance charge into the monthly payment after we had refused it. He also conveniently forgot our initial down payment when calculating the monthly payment. Management was a waste of time. We got the blah, blah, blah treatment with there is nothing we can do to help. All we could do is laugh at the mission statement on the wall as we waited for customer service. It sucks to drive off the lot in a brand new car but be miserable on the ride home. Great car! Excellent customer service when I went here for my 30k maintenance. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I originally went in for an oil change when they pointed out that I was due for my 30k which included an oil change, and I should get that done. The only problem was, I had a client in a few hours and couldn't wait to get the entire service done. So they lent me one of the loaner cars for the day free of charge, because they are really awesome guys!!! Everything was taken care of professionally, and when they forgot to put the touch up paint in my car, they delivered it to my house the next morning! Overall A+ for service and would definitely recommend. A major thanks to Todd and the other service guys for all their help. read more

When I tried to buy a car here, the sales person told me to have a seat he'd be with me shortly. After an hour of not even checking on me (not even telling me that he was too busy today - which would be fine) I left. I brought my cars in 3 times for service. While the work was fine, they gave me inaccurate estimates of the time. That is, it was only an oil change and each of the three times it took 2 hours. In 2 hours time I could have driven to the autoparts store, purchased oil, a filter, and ramps, driven home, changed the oil, taken a shower, and been on my way - and saved money. What I can say in MetroWest's favor is that they encourage you to learn how to do your own work. BTW: While I was waiting I looked at their "service menu" The 30 K service is egregiously overpriced! One of the items was to re-balance all 4 tires. There is no need for this if your car is driving smoothly. It's a money grab. I understand that dealerships are top dollar for service, but this is too much. I moved from the south shore to metrowest and I seriously miss Quirk Subaru. They were the best. Great experience with Mike Cerqueira buying our second Subaru from him in as many years (husband liked the 2017 so much we went back for a 2019 when it was my turn for a new car). In 2017 we passed over another closer dealership to come here, and this year we specifically requested to work with Mike again. Easy to communicate with, kind and patient with my baby who accompanied me to all the paperwork, and made us feel like we were working together rather than getting taken for a ride with all the complexities of car deals. Didn't love the lack of transparency related to financing (deal on website was only on certain cars under certain circumstances, not at all clear) but this wasn't Mike's fault in any way. We'll be back when Baby is ready for his first Subaru. read more

Met Matt Donadio when looking at a used car on the lot. The car was impeccably clean and fully serviced. It was not a Subaru, but he answered all of my questions, provided a service history, a thorough test drive, and his follow up has been welcome and unobtrusive. I needed more time to make my decision, and he offered points to ponder as well as information on a vehicle I was considering, even though it was not on his lot. If I was rating solely on my sales guy, 5 stars goes to him - Toni. He was amazingly patient. I was in twice before I bought the car, exchanged two emails, and 2 or 3 phone calls confirming everything twice! He was not your typical "sales-y" salesman which I learned later is because Subaru dealers do not work on commission. yes they get bonus's and whatnot for selling certain cars and quantity, but their daily paycheck isn't solely based on them selling a car. I really like that the company has a different business model than most others in the car business. I'm not that naive to know he WASN'T trying to sell me a car, he WAS, but I wasn't pressured to buy that day that was a breath of fresh air compared to the other two dealerships I had gone to that day (honda and hyundai). Anyway, Tony made me feel like I regular person, not just a dollar sign for a sale. Let me take the test drive where I wanted, and was respectful that I knew something about cars (being a women, you often don't get that from car salesMEN). The only reason why I gave the actual dealership 4 stars is because the manager was kinda stingy on my trade-in value. WAY below kbb, nada, and even autotrader. But I was patient while he called his wholesalers, was firm on my lowest number (which I got), and when I said I had to go (which I did cuz I had to pick up a u-haul), he hung up the phone and said "ok, i'll give you your $ for your car." I know how to play hard-ball too. :) If you go in and ask for Toni, tell him you read the review by the woman that made him cupcakes. (Yes, I did. The customer service was awful. It took 30 minutes to be approached when walking into the dealership for the first time. The dealer made promises he couldn't keep. Did not return phone calls. The sales manager also didn't return calls. I spent 10 days calling 3 times a day just to get a time frame of when my car would be in. I bought molding and a remote starter as add ones for my car. When I went to pick up the car neither were installed. The finance person at the dealership ran my credit 5 SEPARATE INQUIRIES in one night. This is unheard of. Any car purchase in the past ran it once. I am disgusted by this, my credit score decreased because of this god awful dealership. My mind is blown. Buying a new Subaru feels great when you hear your salesmen talk about how excited they are about their new jeep. read more

Just had a great experience at Metrowest Subaru while shopping for a Forester. Matt D. and David S. were super well-informed, courteous, and refrained from any cheap sales tactic. They committed to a very good price, with all the details, for a specific vehicle, on the internet ("no haggle"). The price was a full $1000 below what you can find on TrueCar. And they let me test drive the car overnight, so that I could see if it fit in my garage. Also, they let you use personal checks for the purchase. The whole process was very straightforward. I was very leery about going through the car buying process again - since the last time I bought a car 10 years ago the process was an absolute nightmare. I met with Mike for a test drive and he was extremely professional, friendly and understood that I needed time to weigh all of my options when researching vehicles. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the vehicle. Don't ever buy a car from these people. They seemed ok until the second the sale was completed. It started when I had to bug them several times to reimburse me for the cost of my inspection. Then they screwed up with the registration, though they claimed it was the RMV's mistake. Seems unlikely since they kept avoiding me or sending the wrong thing when I asked for their copy of the paperwork. Eventually stopped answering completely. I got hit with a fee from my bank to fix the mistake. The worst however has been the continuing issues and expenses because their mechanics don't know how to replace a battery. The battery died shortly after buying the car so they replaced it. 6 months later I return from a long weekend and the car won't start. AAA came to jump it and discovered that the battery had been put in wrong. It did start after being jumped and seemed to still have a pretty good charge but I had to have my mechanic put it in correctly. Now a year later a battery I've had 1.5 years is dead and needs to be replaced. I didn't want them screwing up my car more than they had and I didn't want to have to spend any more time hassling them to try to get reimbursed so instead I've now spent $225 on the bank fee, fixing the battery, and replacing the battery. Don't deal with these people. As soon as that sale is completed they don't give a crap about how you're treated. I guess they don't care much about whether you refer your friends to them. read more

I wrote a review of MetroWest Subaru over three years ago. In that posting I stated how I was reviewing the Sales experience; that is, how the staff treated my wife and I. We wound up buying an Impreza in October 2014. We placed a down-payment. The auto was delivered as promised just before Christmas. The purchase process was easy, because it's basically a take it or leave it approach. They have such a waiting list, you must go elsewhere to attempt to negotiate. Fortunately, the dealership doesn't rip you off. They actually give you a bit off list, when they could attempt to charge you a premium. Since the purchase, I haven't been back to the dealership. The car is officially my wife's. She is the one who visits the dealershIp for service. My review is really based on how she tells me they treat her. I also consider how much the service costs and the shape/condition of the car. After two years, it seems in fine shape, and my wife seems very pleased with the service. My 2006 Ford Escape is doing really fine; so I don't know when we will shop for our next car. But, if we were looking, I would definitely consider an Outback or Forrester, and I would definitely consider buying the auto from MetroWest Subaru. read more

Okay, I've had several oil changes and a 30,000 mile check up for my car at MetroWest. After my last oil change and some annoying warnings about how my car should get serviced again, I decided to just go to a local mechanic to get my oil changes. I just was tired of the constant, "well, you really need a check-up" lectures. Recently, I had something to be fixed and I went to my mechanic first, he told me to go to the dealership to get it repaired so that my warranty would cover the costs. I got to the dealership and I honestly felt as though the main service advisor there was not there to help me, the consumer. I felt like I was being swindled and that there was some sort of a lack of ethics. He later overcharged me for a very minor repair and tacked that on at the end of his schpeel. Now, I hope that the manager of MetroWest will read this. If you want to do great business, you MUST help the consumer out by being HONEST. The consumer picks up on that the moment he/she walks into your store. I can tell that you want to make money, but hey, in order to do that, you must have repeat customers who enjoy their experience at your store. Since you always have openings in the service dept., that should be a clue for you. If you are honest and try to help the consumer out by doing only what is necessary for your car, then customers will come back over and over again. TRUST ME on that one. I don't know what the management is saying to their service dept., but this tactic of over-pricing small services and lecturing consumers about how they should get unnecessary things done to their car will not help your business. You are only taking advantage of your customers and in the end, your business will be very unsuccessful. From a very honest consumer who will not go back to the MetroWest dealership ever again. read more

I came in for some basic oil change, etc. Service was quick which was good, and they have free wifi which was actually fast so I could do work no problem. However they tried to charge me 140 dollars to replace my cabin air filter. This is crazy since you can access this yourself from the glove box and the new part only costs ~20 dollars. If you get service done here, make sure you only allow them to do what you want them to do. read more

Metrowest Subaru contacted me about coming in so they could give me a price for "buying my car". What they did was tell me how much I could trade it in for a new car. Classic bait and switch. I had given them to keys to my car so they could inspect it and it took me three requests and 20 minutes to get them to give me back the keys AFTER they inspected it. * Bad Sales Gimmicks * I ordered a 2015 Subaru Legacy from Metro West Subaru and then (before finalizing the deal) added a factory auto start to the order for $450 and was told that their was no lower invoice price for the auto start, that's the price everyone has to pay.. When I was called to say that the car was in, the factory auto start was not installed. When I told the dealership not to install it themselves they said fine. When it came time to purchase my car the auto start was no longer worth the $450 they told me and I ended up paying $100 more for the car then I was originally quoted. The manager to not try to resolve my complaint about the price discrepancy nor did he even come to talk with me about my complaint. I rushed through the transaction to get out of there, because after that I have no intention of going back. But I Love the car! read more

Most horrible experience ever. The first time we went there no one even spoke with us. After waiting we went back. My husband decided to give them a second chance and we went in again. This time we had a good chat with Dave, but when he brought in his senior, Jeff, that is when things went downhill. He was absolutely irritable, angry and annoyed with us from the beginning. He told us that if we do not have the budget we should just buy a honda or a hyundai. He also trash-talked about our current car, indicating that we are cheap people. He had no decency towards his potential customers. At one point he was threateningly loud and arrogant. I had to get up and say we are done. And there was no effort to try and apologize to us or stop us. The worst experience ever. I would surely recommend to drive few miles more instead of going there to get yourself insulted. read more

I purchased a used 2012 Outback in June. I cannot say that communication with my salesman (Tony) was easy or always productive. Mainly, he did not follow through with the sale when I experienced problems two days after getting the car. My experience with the service manager, (Dan M), was awful. Before I took possession of the car, the dealership had done some cosmetic bodywork to the rear drivers side door. Two days after getting the car, that door's locking mechanism malfunctioned. I understand how the dealership may have missed this malfunction in their pre-sale inspection. However, once notified, someone should have stepped forward to coordinate the repair of the vehicle to the condition that it should have been in upon delivery. Instead, I had to "fight" to be believed and counter the insistence that it was "user error" (child lock, misusing key FOB). I was also told "if our guy says it's fixed, we have to believe him (over you)".The service manager's communication and customer service skills were not only seriously lacking, but he was dismissive, demeaning, and outright rude. It was on the THIRD repair trip (each trip being 100 miles round trip for me) when the used sales manager inspected the door locks (verifying what I had demonstrated for service a few times), and followed through with service. Portions of the door locking mechanism were then finally replaced. The general sales manager (VJ), who is known for taking care of problems, was away. Once he became aware of the extent of my negative experience, he did reach out. Unfortunately the experience couldn't be undone. I was very surprised to see the dealership got a stellar service award. They certainly did not earn it with me. read more

This dealer isn't even worth one star... John Kent, Jeff Richard and Mike Cerquiera scammed me of 8k. They all lied to me about the price of a car in which we had agreed upon and they convinced me to put down 12K on a lease and come to find out they were going to charge me 8k more and 5k more on the ticketed price of the car!!! I spoke with my father about this because after doing the paper work something didn't seem right, and my father was concerned so he went to speak with them. Jeff Richard told him that I was in fact charged the price in which we agreed upon and he explained to my father its a rare car and I wanted it so the deal is done. Well my father pointed out that the paperwork did not in fact state the agreed upon price, but in proof it stated they were charging me 8k more after requesting 12k down on a lease. At that time I was told I still had time to cancel if I really wanted to. I canceled the deal and got my check back. I'm now the proud owner of the exact SUV I wanted and I didn't have to put any money down and i'm only paying 128 more a month, and not only did I get a great deal but I worked with honest people who I will recommend to all my friends and family. METROWEST SUBARU I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING THERE. read more

This review is for a very positive experience on a potential purchase (because the WRX CVT had to be factory-ordered and would take 4 months -- eventually, after finding one to test drive, I realized it was not the car for me.) I wanted to write a positive review but can't commit to 5 star without having gone through the whole process. They do not do a hard sell. I connected with Andy with internet sales and then, later Marty, for the actual configuration and quote. Both were very patient and kind. They were very responsive by email. This dealership has no problem with being transparent and clear. Their first offer for the factory-ordered car was less than what the average consumer pays (per my research), that too on a pretty hot selling car where some people even pay above MSRP. Not sure if this was because January tends to be a slow month but I know other dealerships I'd dealt with in the same period did not put forward such a great offer without haggling (or, at all). Typically, factory-ordered cars are not as steeply discounted as those on the lot. Cannot speak to the financing aspects, delivery, service, etc. Nonetheless I would recommend this dealership if you want a Subaru without the slimy or pushy car salesman tactics. read more

The exhaust system of my 2007 Subaru fell off my car on the Mass Turnpike as I was driving home to Maryland on the Sunday of July 4th weekend. I had the car towed to Metrowest. It turns out the catalytic converter was damaged when the exhaust system fell off and needed to be replaced too. Being far from home and stranded, the service department and in particular Bruce Palmer went out of their way to get my car repaired as quickly as possible. They managed to find the necessary parts and had them installed within 2 days. Bruce kept in great contact with me and even though all the loaners were taken, he got a rental car for me to use. The service department is a bit hard to reach (it rings and rings) but Bruce gave me a direct number to call so I always felt able to have my questions answered. I greatly appreciate all their help in getting me on the road and home again! read more

Rather than treating us like an afterthought when it was clear we weren't yet ready to buy, Jeff invested the time to take us out for an extended test drive. Jeff's knowledge, professionalism and thoroughness were most impressive. I asked Jeff for his best price quote for the specs I was interested in and then left to test drive a comparable Toyota. Once I decided on the Forester and did my pricing homework, I recontacted Jeff. Not only did he match my best price, but after negotiating with his sales manager, Jeff was able to offer us an in-stock vehicle that included not only all of my specs, but also some other "nice to have" extras. We closed the sale by phone and I met with Jeff the next day to complete the paperwork. Jeff is a truly exceptional customer-focused sales professional, and I was impressed (which is not easy to do). There was no detail that Jeff forgot or delegated to someone else. He even gave us a thorough hands-on tour of the car when we picked it up a few days later, and at a time when he could have been working with another customer to close a sale. Word of mouth referral is the best advertising and I'm delighted to recommend Jeff Ricard in all ways, and give him an outstanding endorsement. Brought my Subaru (which i bought used from them a few years back)...in for an electrical problem.. and they couldn't have been more professional. They worked on the car for over a week trying to ascertain what the problem was. It seemed they had to change some major wiring components... All the while they had arranged for me to have a loaner car at no charge. I must say I did have the extended warranty insurance which turned out great. In the end they fixed the problem.. it didn't cost me a dime and I was super happy with the service. read more

Not a dealership I would recommend. This story is reflective of how the dealer treated my son in a standard service call. It starts with a verbal quote on a service job involving a throttle regulator and some recommended additional work (timing belt etc...) with the engine already opened up. The quote was for $1400 after a $500 Subaru of America assistance on the defective throttle regulator. The time to fix was quoted at 1 week. The car was not ready in 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks blamed on a 2 week back order of the throttle regulator. I can add 2+1 and come up to something less than 4. When it was ready my son went to pick up the car and there was damage to the car that took place at the dealership. He would not accept the car until they fixed it but was showed an invoice for the service work completed ($1800). What ensued was a discussion about quoted vs. billed and they arbitrarily reduced it to $1500 verbally. Note: $1800 is more than $100 above quoted price which is illegal in Massachusetts. My son called the business owner to voice frustration on the repeated need to go to the dealership to pick up the vehicle and the owner challenged my son on the "reported quote price" as he also challenged me when I spoke to him. He said they knew what it cost to do this job and it was not $1400. It sounded to me like he was trying to accuse my son of lying about the quote which, considering my son was complaining about having to spend $1400 on the repairs for over a month I knew to be not true. They did ultimately repair the body work and they did honor the quote they gave - at a lot of work to get there, but because they made these mistakes and it cost them money they felt no need to compensate for the aggravation of a 5-week service experience, multiple trips to the dealer to leave frustrated, and an accusatory tone that you were lying about the validity of the quote provided. They screwed up and they thought that was good enough. Best bet is to just stay away from guys like this that look for your money and not your satisfaction. They gave my son exactly what they promised, a service job at the price they quoted and nothing more. They think the other inconveniences created by their sloppiness is your problem not theirs. read more

I bought a subaru impreza 3 years ago. transmission died at 30k miles and 3.5 years (covered under powertrain warranty). They refused to give us a loaner car as specified in our warranty contract. They also have not reimbursed towing expenses as per contract. At 1.5 weeks they had not assessed the car or ordered any parts. At 2 weeks they ordered the transmission. It has been almost 3 weeks and they are avoiding our calls, sending us directly to voicemail. We have no idea what is going on with our car or why it is taking so long to diagnose/fix. For reference, a local community dealer told us he could do the job in 3-5 days and my dad (an engineer) was able to diagnose the problem on site. read more

Typical car dealership. Meaning they will rip you off when they can and will bend over backwards when they can not. Customer loyalty is the last priority. First time I experienced Metrowest was a few years ago when I purchased a new car. Everything went fine but even then they tried to put regular mats instead of all weather and were very unhappy when I caught that. Thankfully, I had i"all weather mats option" in writing. Next thing was when I lost a small plastic part from the fender and they tried to charge me $100 for a replacement. Needless to say I was able to get it at another dealership for $15.. Nice mark up and nice try. Recently I tried to buy a new car from them and promptly after the earthquake they jacked up the prices to MSRP. From a business prospective that is probably right, but it is surely not the way to get a repeat business. I would have given them 1 star but since I since I think that such a thing as "a good dealer who cultivates customer loyalty " is a pure fantasy and they may be just like another guy around the corner I give them 2 stars. Nothing but problems. Our sales guy was terrific, but that's where it ended. We have known problems with the car shaking at highway speeds. There's a service bulletin, but Metrowest won't do the work cause it's 400 mi out of warranty! Can you believe it! 400 mi! The car also has brake issues (acknowledged by the dealer) that they refused to correct because it's 400 mi out of warranty. First the car has problems that shouldn't exist, not the dealer won't fix them without charging me. Bear in mind, this car has only 36,400 mi on it. Needed front brake pads/rotors replaced and an oil change. Tried calling several times over a two-week period but they never answer the phone, left multiple voicemails, never received a call back. Called nearby Speen Street Automotive instead, someone actually picked up the phone, I scheduled an appointment for the same week, with free loaner car, good prices and great service. read more
