I use Metro Mutts for their dog-walking service and they are excellent. Jackie and David are super nice, communicate well, and I really feel good that my dog is well taken care of. The initial consultation is easy and informative, the daily walk reports are detailed, and the online account transactions are effortless. I've tried a couple of other dog-walking companies in the NE Capitol Hill area and Metro Mutts provides the best service by far. The store is clean, well-stocked and has a knowledgeable and friendly staff. No need to go anywhere else! :) read more

Love it when all the pieces come together. We had looked online and knew they carried the brand of food our pug has become accustomed too. We got there and they don't have the exact type he eats. But as is usually the case with a good small neighborhood shop, they knew exactly what they had in the stock room. Apparently someone had ordered the food we needed and hadn't picked it up for over a month so the bag was ours! Excellent customer service! read more

The owners and staff are really helpful and knowledgeable about their products and even take suggestions regarding items they should carry. They were really nice and let us test a leash that we were looking at buying. All in all a fabulous store and I am glad they are in our neighborhood! Check them out! read more

This store is super cute and the staff is super friendly. I can also walk to it from my house. This is a great addition to H Street. I asked and they are planning on starting some Yappy Hours, I think they are going to work with Toyland across the street. My only complaint is that their treats in the case, the more "homemade" treats were a bit limited. But it's nice not to have to go all the way to eastern market with my boys have a need for treats. read more

This is a small neighborhood pet store that has a unique selection of high- quality pet food, treats, toys and accessories. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I was impressed to hear that they host puppy play dates. I will be back soon. read more

Great place to shop for pet stuff. I've gone in for advice, product recommendations and for referrals to an obedience trainer. They also have a dog walking service that I've heard good things about. read more

Absolutely the best pet store in DC. A big selection of natural foods and toys. The owner is sweet and helpful, and the two resident dogs are adorable. Great for hard-to-find, independent brands and a nice cat selection. I wish I lived closer, but it's worth the trip. read more

I went to Metro Mutts on the first day it was open (Saturday, April 3). The owners, who were working, are knowledgeable and definitely love animals. Additionally, they have a great selection of foods and treats; I was able to buy small bags of a few different foods for my dog to try out, as well as peanut butter treats (I'm not sure of the brand right now, but he loves them!). My only (minor) complaint is that they don't offer as wide a selection of non-food products (leashes, toys, etc.) as I'd like. This is due to their space restrictions, though, so I can't complain too much about it. (And this won't be a problem for a lot of people; I just spoil my dog with a new leash and collar every few months as well as with way more toys than he needs.) Overall, though, I'd definitely recommend Metro Mutts. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood! (Oh, and, on a side note, they are going to offer grooming every so often through a mobile groomer. I haven't used it yet, but it's nice to know that it's a service they will offer.) read more

We love Metro Mutts and are thrilled that they chose our neighborhood. They have a great selection and a very nice and helpful staff. We even found a new food that our dog loves! They have all the brands that you would expect but I like them a lot more than GreenPets because their selection is better and they seem more consistent in their products. They are also doing a good job at bringing in groomers and other events. I will look forward to their presence here! read more

This place is fantastic! They have all the weird and wonderful food and treats my dog and cat need, and all in my neighborhood so no more long treks to other stores. The owners are very friendly and very knowledgeable, I am so grateful to have this store in the neighborhood :) read more

I live in the neighborhood, and went into Metro Mutts for the first time the other weekend. The place looks great, and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly. I don't plan on going to any other pet stores as long as Metro Mutts is around. Thanks for opening up on H Street! read more

I love Metro Mutts. The staff there is super friendly and laid back. They know all about all of the products they offer, and even have a suggestion board so they can order something if you can't find what you are looking for! The store looks great and there are lots of pet supplies that are local. The store also offers a lot of all natural products at a really great price. I also volunteer with a rescue league and they went above and beyond to work with us!! They even were able to offer us a really great gift basket with lots of awesome toys and treats, and tweeted about one of the rescue dogs we brought to the store to spark interest in finding him a home! Don't be fooled by the name either, they also offer great cat food and kitty supplies. All around awesome. I am so glad the opened close to our neighborhood! read more

We've been using Metro Mutts dog walking services off and on for about a year now. They're extremely professional, can often squeeze our dog in the schedule last minute, and always update us far in advance if there is any change in who is walking our dog. They ask for a ton of information when you sign up, which made me feel really comfortable that the dog walker would know exactly what to do if any sort of dog/house disaster happened while they were in the house or out with our dog. Their online system is helpful as well. Would definitely recommend! read more

Metro Mutts is small but somehow has a large selection of items for both dogs and cats. We get all of our dog stuff in one convenient place. Staff is helpful and available. I've found a few gifts here as well, they have some local and DC based leashes/collars and toys, including a "dump Trump" doggie bag holder = hilarious. read more

So glad a pet store opened this close to my house! We no longer have to trek to buy our pup toys and bones. The owners could not be any nicer and happier to assist customers and chat it up about all the goods they have in the store. The store itself is super cute, great selection of toys and food. They have fresh baked treats (doggy french fries that come in an actual fry bag...soooo cute and our boy loved them, Lee also threw in a doggy doughnut on the house which our pup devoured) We also got Chuck It here which has now become his absolute favorite toy. We keep it in the closet and he will sit in front of the closet and whimper until we give in and chuck tennis balls outside with him for hours. We will definitely become regulars at Metro Mutts! read more

Such a wonderful company and service! We're first time pet owners and were very nervous about making sure our new puppy got the right amount of attention and care while we're away at work -- Metro Mutts has done an absolutely outstanding job. Upon hiring Metro Mutts, they came over for a first-time consultation to meet our pup, get familiar with our apartment, and go over all the details. Our dog has the same walker every day, so the walker really gets to know her and vice versa, and if our walker is sick or unavailable, Metro Mutts lets us know that there will be a replacement. Their team is incredibly dedicated and skilled, totally professional, and their services are really flexible. They offer additional services (like early morning, happy hour, and weekends) and have a really easy-to-use website and app. Not to mention, we love the fact that we're supporting a locally owned business. Definitely use Metro Mutts -- they're the best! read more

Incredible place! I was looking for some new dog food and asked the owners if they had any recommendations. Lee described all of the foods very well and recommended "Verus" which is apparently locally owned and operated. My dog can be a picky eater but he loves the stuff! I noticed a big difference in how soft his fur is (we're talking puppy-soft). Kelly and Anna (also owners I think) were working with other customers but were very friendly as well. I ended up getting a leash, D.C.-made collar, and plush toy and was quite happy with the grand total. Definitely going back there. read more

Bosko and I have found a great place to buy his top-quality dog food, treats, and toys, and it's right in our neighborhood! The prices are great. Anna was very helpful. Bow wow! read more

I am only now getting around to writing a review especially since I have been shopping at the store since it opened. Initially, there were two aggressive dogs behind the counter. Now, there is a calm cat on top of the counter. There are lots of toys, treats, clothing, and pet food. The store is pleasant and the staff welcoming. I have switched from Le Chateau to MM because they have all that I need most of the time and they are closer. read more

This store is awesome with a great knowledgeable staff too. There are loads of natural and organic pet foods, toys and treats. They have puppy play times once a month and a loyalty program to save a few kibbles. To top it off, the healthy dog food selection isn't too expensive. Besides the money you spend for healthy foods you save in vet bills. Overall I highly recommend this store especially for NE residents. read more

Awesome neighborhood store! Went in for dog food, came out with some epic knowledge and a whole new perspective on animal husbandry. Super friendly and helpful staff that went above and beyond in helping us out - pumped to have this place so close! The affinity I have for this Capital Hill/H Street pet paradise is eclipsed only by my love for my soft, furry critters. Keep up the good work, Metro Mutts! (Mowgli and Max say thanks, too) read more

Great pet store with good selection, particularly of higher-end and organic items. They're a wonderful part of the neighborhood, not just some place that dishes out rawhides. read more

I am so happy that Sunny and Hannah persuaded their people (Lee and Kelly) to open Metro Mutts! My furry friends and I taste-tested the Yoghund cheddar 'n apple frozen yogurt treats at our Bark-BQ and they really hit the "spots!" We'll try the blueberry treats next. I love doing my own shopping, right in my neighborhood! You sell my favorite healthy foods (Evo, Innova, and Merrick) and treats (Merrick -- especially the Texas Taffy beef jerky) . . . and I love that my allowance goes so far at your store and that you always make sure the water bowl is filled with fresh cool water. Also, Ben and I really like our new bungee leashes (truth be told, we think our people like them even better)! You all are so nice to us (so are your people) and you really know your stuff! I am very happy you are our new neighbors! Fuzzy Bear (and her pack . . . Emma, Luna, Ben, Gidget, Wilbur, Colonel, Pooh Bear, Alpha, Lucy, Kiley, Wolfie, Bella, Alice, Jolie, Ginger and Mary Ann, and the rest of the Hillhounds) P.S. Smudge and Bella -- my feline sibs -- also love their Evo food, bonito flake treats (thanks for the sample), and Feline Pine litter! read more

Jackie watched my cat while I was away in New Orleans for a week long conference. I usually have friends stop by, but this particular week all my friends were either out of town, or headed down to meet up with me. Never have I felt so confident leaving my house and my cat in a stranger's hands. My cat isn't particularly high strung or needy, but I still feel bad leaving him. Jackie took fantastic care of him, brushed him, played with him, gave him lots of love, and even watered my plants and took care of my mail. And, the billing system and entire process was super easy and straightforward (and cheap!), and she left daily notes about her time here. I would recommend her, and/or Metro Mutts, in a heartbeat. I've yet to go to the actual store, but look forward to getting up there soon. Five stars, for sure. read more

I love having a neighborhood dog store to visit! Metro Mutts carries the basic necessities that I use more frequently--poopie bags, Gentle Leader face harnesses (yes, my dog frays his!), snacks/food, and toys. It's clean, well organized, and well stocked. And, it's awesome the store rents the basement for dog training classes! How you are greeted (if at all) really depends who's on duty. As one other reviewer noted, sometimes a half-hearted, mumbled "hey" is all you get after entering the store. When one of the owners is working, I have received an inviting welcome. read more

I can't rave enough about their dog walking services. They have an easy online booking system, and I KNOW that my baby girl is getting the best service possible. I come home to a happy pup, and very detailed helpful notes explaining the potty breaks, training and behaviour of my pup. They have helped me out of a last minute bind on many occasions. They are the BEST! read more

Fun store my pooch sophie loves this place. anyhow its a little pricey but dollar well spent worth everybit of it!!!!

This rating is for the fact that they are not wheelchair accessible (step up to get into the store) when they easily could be; therefore, I can not patronize them. It looks like a good store from the outside, but since a wheelchair user cannot independently get in, I will not spend my money there, and I'd like to because they are conveniently located and a local business. read more

Well, I usually love this pet store! The people that work there are always pleasant and helpful. However, the male employee that's been there the last two times I've been in, has been pretty rude. The first time I experienced his rudeness, I was in because I needed to change my dogs food. When I asked him for help he acted like I was bothering him and kinda treated me like I was an idiot. When I was checking out, he didn't say thank you or anything when I was done. I walked out of there confused and frustrated. Then, today, he didn't say hello or anything when I walked in. Then when I was checking out he just let me walk out again without saying thank you or anything. I mean.. I'm not asking for somebody to sing me a song or read me a poem when I get there. I just want a courteous hello when I walk in and a thank you for shopping here after I pay. I don't think I'm asking for too much, do you? read more

Very caring staff! Victoria has gone over and above for our dogs! We even received flowers from Metro Mutts after our cat passed! They are like an extension of family to us! read more

The folks here are super friendly and helpful. If for some reason they don't have what my puppy needs, they order it and let me know when it is at the store. So glad to have them in the neighborhood! read more

We've been using Metro Mutts' dog walking service for a while, and they have been, without exception, fantastic. Jackie and her staff are responsive, friendly, and dependable, and they take great care of their dog clients. Thanks, Jenna and Jackie! read more

Super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Cat-in-residence is definitely an added plus. For a relatively small store, they have a great selection of accessories and toys. The main reason I go, however, is that I can reliably find high quality cat food (wet and dry) there. read more

LOVE this place. I'm adopting two kittens Saturday, so I went in after work today to get everything I needed to get ready. Jimmy (I think that's his name) spent probably forty minutes with me off and on talking me through kitten behavior, cat food brands, toys, litter, etc. He and the other person working (Chris) were just incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a lovely experience and they helped me get even more excited about having pets. read more

We love Metro Mutts! It's a very friendly store with great selection, that also does special orders. We've been going there for now a few months to get all we need for our cat, and we've found everything we wanted (food, scratch pad, toys, shampoo, wipes, bowls, etc., all of high quality). The rewards program actually rewards you, and the staff is very friendly. Great store, highly recommended! read more

We started feeding our dog finicky Dalmatian Fromms based on the owner's suggestions. She loves the food and we love them. They will order anything you can think of and they already of a great selection. read more

I like this little store a lot. It doesn't have the selection of Petsmart, and they don't carry the same brands you might be used to, but the staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable. You pay extra for that service, and for the slightly yuppie offerings, but it seems to be in line with the standard shop-local markup. If you're the kind of person who gets pictures of your dog with Santa, this store is for you. read more

Metro Mutts has some good options for dog food. My dog was not eating the dog food I bought him. I went to Metro Mutts and asked for some suggestions on good dog food. The brand recommended was 'A taste of the wild'. It worked like a charm...my dog loves it! Great store, friendly staff and conveniently located. read more

I've been using Metro Mutts for cat sitting services. They really do an amazing job. They rescued me this week by stepping in last minute to help me out and it was greatly appreciated. The notes and progress reports they leave are always thoughtful. I definitely recommend them for cat sitting. Customer service is great! read more
