Saving Grace Petcare is the BEST. A local small business that takes wonderful care of pets. We use Saving Grace for cat sitting when we are out of town. Selena who takes care of Meru always writes little notes of how he is and leaves them for us daily (sometimes even sends a photo as well!). We have had Selena for all of our visits, which is really nice that it's the same person going to your apt. each time and not a different person who doesn't know your pet. The price tag is well pretty on par with other pet sitting services in the area as I researched ahead of time. I've found that they go out of their way to answer emails or calls quickly, which is especially important with last minute trips. Their online booking is pretty straightforward and easy to navigate. It would be great if they got a phone app, but the web version is fine especially for a small business. Highly recommend if you are looking for petcare for your dog or cat. Saving Grace gives us peace of mind when we are out of town. We have two cats and have been using Saving Grace for over a year, and we could not be happier. I would estimate that we have used the service over 20 times, and we have never had an issue of any kind. Paul Weiss is our preferred care giver. So, I travel a fair bit, and while my cat is all right for a couple of days by herself, sometimes I am gone for quite a while and my neighbors are not able to take care of her. This was the case at the end of October when I was going to California for 10 days. Previously, I had used Metro Pet Services, but it has been harder and harder to get in touch with them, and after I hadn't heard from them for a few days, I decided to look elsewhere for someone to take care of Luna. I got numbers from my vet's office, from the internet, and from the coffee shop, and I have to say, it is HARD to connect with pet sitters! In total, I contacted 5 places, and Saving Grace was the ONLY place that I heard back from. Some places don't answer their phones, others don't reply to emails, still others have disconnected phones, vanished websites, etc. etc. Anyway, despite my bad luck in general, Saving Grace was responsive, nearby, professional, and competitive in prices. Even better, they also have a home cleaning business, so I have hopes of combining pet services with a good deep clean on my apartment one of these days. We try our best to support local businesses. Thanks to our in home security system updates we now know that Saving Grace cannot be trusted. The company promises that their sitters will stay 20 minutes for cat visits; and clean their litter boxes and feed them. We discovered that the sitter repeatedly left our home before 10 minutes had passed. Unless the sitter has superpowers, there is no way two litter boxes and feeding took place. We understand that employers can't control every move that their employees make, but it is their responsibility to hire the right people. Until they can do that, I would steer clear of them. read more

Our cat always seems happy when we return from trips, so I know she is taken care of when we are gone. The sitter cleans the litter box, feeds her, and plays with her while we are gone. We also get text and email updates, which are always welcome and help with our peace of mind. Yeah, I won't belabor the obvious since the ratings for Saving Grace say it all, these guys are awesome and always deliver above and beyond what they promise. They've accommodated all kinds of crazy last minute requests, cancellations and other nonsense that we've thrown at them, and they continue being nice to us. So either they're crazy or they're just that awesome! We sure were bummed to lose such a great business when we moved from DC back to NYC. My boyfriend and I are crazy about our pets, but always felt confident and at ease leaving their care (and the security of our home) in the hands of these folks. Paul was so wonderful to our two cats that they barely lifted their heads when we returned. He also brought in out mail, left us little daily notes, and sent us picturesi. So, I was on Yelp because I wanted to leave a nice review of our doggie daycare and Saving Grace popped up. I was curious because we'd used their service, it was great until it was horrible, and I left a bad review. Lo and behold, that Yelp review which a business is not supposed to be able to delete has been removed. In brief, we used them for dog walker. We had good walkers. Our guy was happy. Then they changed walkers. He kept setting off our alarm, terrifying our already nervous dog. The experience was bad enough that he can no longer have a dog walker (which is why he goes to daycare when we're not home, at much greater expense, but worth it knowing they take good care of him. This walker set off the alarm, then instead of letting the dog settle, took him *OUTSIDE* to try to leash him. What kind of walker would do that? My dog then nipped him. And they blamed us. What do you think the dog is going to do in that situation. Do not trust this business. read more

Saving Grace has been providing daily walks for my dog for over a year now, and we have been consistently thrilled with the service. Our walker is fantastic, and the gentleman who manages the schedule is responsive and flexible with my many schedule changes. I love the little notes that our walker leaves for me every day -- after a year, my dog has much more of a journal of his daily activities than I do! I found Saving Grace on Yelp, when I was looking for a temp solution for getting a new rescue dog acclimated to my work schedule. I came up with this wack-a-doo schedule for a dog walker...in the attempt to get the dog's bladder and mind adjusted to a new home and my 10 hour days away from home. I needed a dog walker to come more often in the beginning and then space it out, etc... I emailed a few places, but Saving Grace was the one that I felt most comfortable with based on response and feedback via email. Its been great so far and I feel totally comfortable with the set-up. My new dog has adjusted quickly and she's coming out her shell quickly, and I absolutely give Saving Grace kudos for being a part of that. I recently went on vacation for about a week over New Years. Since most of my friends were travelling for the holidays, I couldn't rely on them to cat sit my two fur babies like I normally do. After some research, I e-mailed Saving Grace to inquire. I had nothing but positive experiences with them from day 1. Mollie was incredibly helpful in getting my account set up and arranging for the meet and greet with Paul. Paul arrived promptly on the scheduled day and asked all the right questions about my kitties and made sure I didn't have any lingering questions before he left. I won't lie - I was pretty nervous about having a relative stranger come into my home while I was out of the country, and was worried that something would go wrong. But Paul was great about e-mailing me status updates and even sending pictures. When we got home, we found a pile of handwritten notes on the kitchen table from every day that he had visited with a little note. I adopted Sunny the greyhound this fall, and Saving Grace has been wonderful. Sunny had some health issues in the beginning, and Bill did a great job providing me with detailed updates on how she felt while he was there. In addition, I was concerned that she may be aggressive towards small dogs...and Bill worked to socialize her at the dog park on their walks...she's adjusted beautifully in large part to his help! Sunny stayed with Adam for about a week while I was in Mexico, and she LOVED it. So much better for her than going to one of those large-scale pet hotels. Greyhounds are notoriously bad at going up and down stairs, and Sunny is no exception...when Adam realized that she wasn't going to be able to negotiate the flight up to his apartment...he CARRIED her (a 60-pound dog) up and down the steps for a week. I'm so grateful so the folks at Saving Grace! They've made adjusting to pet parenthood a smooth transition. :-) read more

I find these reviews hard to believe, almost as if there were employees or family members writing them. I'm a HUGE supporter of animal rights and the treatment of all pets. For the past two months now, I was attempting to schedule Cat Sitting and schedule a "Meet and Greet" with Saving Grace due to business travel with work. I needed to find a stable pet sitting service that I could rely on...but I had questions concerning scheduling and how the process worked. Because I travel weeks at a time, it was important to me to Meet the Pet Sitter so I could go over feeding and health concerns with my little boy cat. That was impossible and caused them to basically cancel future services with me and avoided answering any of my questions. Saving Grace has two Scheduler's both were so rude and direct with, completely unwilling to assist me with understaning policies with Saving Grace and assisting me understanding how the process worked. If your blessed enough to actually get a call back, don't except to be greeted with professionalism. I was able to get two call backs in which messages were so sarcastic. Sounded as if they were bothered that a customer had questions. Things got so bad, I actually sent an email to the Owner directly, and.....of course no reply or assistance offered. Saving Grace has been on the Hill for several years but fails to realize that there is other competition out there... Walk the Wag on 8th Street SE (Howl to the Chief) Extremely professional and pleasant to speak with, they never acted as if answering customer questions was an additional service. I guess I'm sorry that I'm a pet owners who loves their pets and takes their health and well-being seriously. For the future.... Saving Grace....Customers do ask questions and sometimes have concerns..... It's called paying for service. If you're an owner with NO Questions or Concerns, then Saving Grace is the place for you..... read more

My pup and I just moved to DC about six weeks ago and Tracy was super helpful in getting us set up and ready stress-free within the first couple days! We had no problem setting up a schedule with Orlando and starting walks immediately. Vaquita loves walking with the other dogs in our neighborhood and they get so excited to see each other. These guys are seriously a saving grace! When I got a puppy I was so worried about getting home in time to walk and play with her but these people have helped so much! I can sign up for walks online and get monthly invoices. The security system with the house keys keeps me at ease and even helps if I lock myself out of my house! The dog walker always leaves me a note about where they went on the walk and who my puppy played with. She is reliable and I can tell that Lindy loves her daily walks that keep her socialized with other neighborhood dogs and people. Not only do they provide dog walking services, they come and check on my cats and plants when I'm on vacation among a myriad of other services they offer (including house cleaning, handyman services, etc.). I recently moved to DC from Florida and within three weeks of my move I had to leave my dog to go on a four day business trip. I was very anxious about finding a pet sitter because my dog is from the pound and she has attachment issues and doesn't do well with other dogs. She has never been boarded and I had a pet sitter in Florida that I had used for three years that provided all services in my home. I wanted to find the same type of service in DC. After much searching and sifting through many reviews I found Saving Grace. In the less than two months that I've been in the city Saving Grace has provided six overnight visits and nine walk/feeding visits for my dog. The staff has been incredibly professional and my dog has been very happy and well taken care of when I've gotten home. 0 stars. Saving Grace stole from me and failed to walk my dog three times in one week. I would avoid this service at all costs. The first time Saving Grace stole from me was when the dog walker came into my house, wrote the note that my dog was walked and then left without walking my dog. I know this because I have an alarm system that tells me when people come and go. The walker thought i wouldn't check but I did. That is called theft of services. After bringing this to the attention of management they failed to take any action against the employee. Just four days later, the dog walker had my dog out for a total of 12 minutes. I know this because again my alarm lets me know when people come and go. 12 minutes is not sufficient and my dog deserves better. Again i am not getting what i pay for. The final straw was when two days later after returning home from work i noticed no note. I checked my alarm and no one had been in my house to get my dog. That means that Saving Grace failed completely to come and walk my dog leaving him alone for 10+ hours. Complete failure on their part and they failed to deliver services that were paid for. Dog walking services are built on trust and you can not trust Saving Grace to delver a consistent, honest product. They lie to your face and steal from you. I would not recommend anyone use their services for any reason unless they want to get ripped off. read more

I cannot recommend Saving Grace highly enough. I used Saving Grace multiple times over the last 2 years to care for my two cats, until I recently moved to a different neighborhood. (Side note - Saving Grace, expand to Columbia Heights!) I was fortunate to have the same sitter each time, Laura A., and she was not only fabulous with my cats, but she went above and beyond. For example, I was out of the country during Hurricane Sandy, and Laura not only e-mailed me to update me on the situation at home and reassure me that she would still be making daily visits no matter what, but she also brought in plants that were likely to be blown away and checked each window to make sure they were shut. She provided the same excellent service during a snowstorm, trekking to my house to take care of the cats. It was a huge relief knowing that I didn't have to worry about my cats while they were in Laura's care. She also left daily notes, so that when I got home I'd know exactly what she did at each visit and how the cats were doing that day. The online booking system is super convenient, and I always got a response within 12 hours. The couple of times that I had questions for the Saving Grace management, my e-mails were responded to quickly. I want to start off by saying that these guys are so good, I literally signed up for Yelp just to review them. My cats are like my family (I promise in a less crazy cat person way then it sounds), and when I recently had to leave for 2 weeks for work I was more than a little nervous. It was just too long to ask a friend a favor, and I was desperately searching for a sitter. Thankfully I literally found Saving Grace. Their rates are more than reasonable, they are friendly and attentive, and overall I just liked how they operated. I had a last minute issue where it turned out I was going to have to have construction in the house for the duration of when I was gone, and they took all of it in stride. I would HIGHLY recommend Nikki as a sitter. We met beforehand, and it was easy to tell that she is an animal lover. She kept a log of everything that happened, and when I returned, my cats were healthy and happy (which is incredibly rare when their routine is that thrown off). So if you need petcare, there really isn't a doubt in my mind of who I'd recommend you should go to. I will definitely be using Saving Grace for as long as I live in the area. read more

We heard great reviews of Saving Grace, but were very disappointed. Grace has some great dog walkers, and some bad dog walkers and staff. One walker was very late because he'd lost control of a dog, that ran away off-leash. Quite often the walkers would only walk our dog for about 15 minutes, and we paid $18 for each walk. One staff member -- a trainer employed by Saving Grace -- came to our house at our request to help us train our puppy for an hour-long session. She showed up 15 minutes early, talked at us (reading from her handouts instead of ever engaging our dog) for 90 minutes, regardless of us commenting on the time, looking at our watches, and hinting that she should go. When she realized that she'd talked at us for 90 minutes, she told us that she doesn't bring a watch, and charged us for 90 minutes instead of the 60 minutes scheduled, including the time that she was early. Her obliviousness was astounding. Ultimately, Grace decided personally to cancel our dog walking service. She gave us a week's notice. One of her employees had left on good terms just weeks before. Since Grace terminated our service and the employee had left on good terms after two years of service, we asked if we could be in touch with that former employee to walk our dog. Grace responded that she would allow it for two weeks, implying that she would bring legal action against that former staff person if she were to walk our dog beyond that period, even after Grace had personally cancelled our service. Overall, Grace had some good dog walkers. And some bad ones. And some bad staff. The mean spirited way that she treated her great staff who'd left, and the abrupt way that she left a client high and dry (even preventing us from having a person walk our dog after she cancelled our service) makes me question the spirit with which she conducts her business. read more

This is an update to my original review. The same employee of Saving Grace I'd tried to schedule and reschedule with reached out to me after my review but didn't really own the mistake. Finally, a more customer oriented rep reached out and offered a genuine apology and chance to correct the blunder. I really respect genuine correspondence and I know mistakes sometimes happen so I took them up on their offer and they even comped me a fixed dollar amount to prove themselves. I had the owner herself (along with her best fixer) and they treated the scheduling with urgency. They were flexible with phone conversations as well as coming by after hours to take a look at the jobs so they could come in to do the work while I was away at work. They did the job quickly and I was glad to come home and see it complete. There were two little blunders that I did notice - 1) being Gorilla Glue i found in my dog's fur that I had to cut out; and 2) i failed to think about another shelving unit on the other side of the wall where work was being done and it was damaged during the work (but not to the point where it was ruined.) I think small blunders are normal growing pains of any new business and overall, I think they are a very solid home repair/service option in the Capitol Hill area. I also think their pricing model is one of the most competitive out there. I'm sure they will tweak and learn over the course of this year and become a great resource in DC. read more

I'm a new-ish puppy owner on Capitol Hill, and Saving Grace Services has absolutely saved my bacon. (Presumably so the pooch can snack on it.) Their twice-daily "puppy pee breaks" allowed me to return to work even with an 11-week-old puppy, and since then she has continued to enjoy regular walks with the same caring walker. What's more, every day I get a note about how the walk went, and whether there are digestive, behavioral, or socialization issues of note! They have a wonderful online client service center for automatic bill pay and service requests. In short, the perfect blend of casual neighborliness and modern techno-savvy. I've used Saving Grace for 2 evening dog walks and a weeklong dog sitting service and I can't say enough good things about them. They are very prompt and courteous and will always bend over backwards to try to fit your schedule. When I had to go out of town for a week, my dog took his own vacation, staying with one of the walkers at his home. He got to hang out with another dog or two and take walks every day like he does when I'm home. It beats any kennel or overpriced "dog hotel" hands down.
