Do NOT use their pet transportation. I just saw one of their drivers dropping a dog off at a location and leave another inside the van with it completely OFF and it's 91 degrees outside. The dog was clearly in distress heavily panting and pawing at the window/door. The driver was gone for several minutes. I tried to call the business but was continuously re-directed through endless menus that ultimately led nowhere. I've contacted them online instead. PLEASE BEWARE Update: Per Rebeca's response, the driver did not step away "briefly". She was gone for almost 10 minutes and it was 90+ degrees outside. On top of that, when I finally got a response from them via email the following day, they indicated the "dog compartment had the AC was on 4" - well, the dog was not in the dog compartment. In fact, it was sitting in the passenger seat of the van with no protection, car seat, or restraint of any kind. Another red flag. Furthermore, as I waited for the driver to come back in case the dog went into greater distress and someone needed to take action to save his life, I was repeatedly calling their phone number and went through EVERY menu option just trying to find someone to talk to. In their email response, they also indicated that the dog was panting because it's "naturally anxious" - I don't know about you, but I would also be incredibly anxious if I were left alone in a steaming hot vehicle without knowing what's going on. I also have an anxious dog and there's a distinction between anxiety and overheating/borderline heat stroke panting. If the dog's owner being dropped off couldn't meet them at that moment, perhaps they should've gone to drop the second dog off first and then come back. Disappointing one customer is a lot better than putting a dog in a life-threatening situation. I would also recommend re-evaluating drop off communication procedures and scheduling. I can't speak for their other services, but please, please, think twice about using their pet transportation. All it takes is a few minutes for tragedy to strike, and at the end of the day, it's your fur baby, not theirs. read more

We love the Patrick's Pet Care team! We have a anxious and fearful 2.5 yo bull terrier mix. The PPC team is always patient and accommodating with her- whether they are coming into our home for a walk, she goes to the PPC Brookland facility for fear-free grooming, or brings her best doggy friend with her to feel more comfortable during Enrichment 1:1 days! More than that, the PPC team is always excited to see her and take care of her as if she is their own. We wouldn't use anyone else and are so appreciative of the entire team! Ridiculously expensive! They had to the nerve to try and charge us $300 for my small dog to get washed/groomed/trimmed/ears cleaned. Everything that should come with a grooming service is an added charge and then they had the nerve to charge a late fee if you're a few minutes late picking them up. We've been so grateful for PPC's services (training and grooming) throughout the duration of Togo's (our Shih-Tzu mix) puppyhood. Through Puppy Headstart, Daycare 101 and individual training, Joe and Nikita in particular helped Togo learn to play with other dogs, get used to grooming, and work through his separation anxiety. PPC is unique in that they let your dog progress at his/her own pace even if doing so is inconvenient for the humans; for example, Rebeca's grooming team used hand-held clippers during Togo's first few grooming sessions until he was more comfortable with the razor. TLDR: Take your doggo to Patrick's Pet Care! They have skilled trainers that use positive reinforcement to help your dog feel confident and secure. My doggo, Benji, is a lot more independent and happier these days---and it makes my life easier too! I had recently unexpectedly adopted my foster dog, Benji (foster fail!) back in October and had no idea of his history. All I knew was that he was a silky terrier mix stray with a high-energy personality. I was a bit overwhelmed to say the least. I took Benji to the Brookland location for a spa day and after that positive experience, Patrick recommended Benji as an ideal Day Care 101. So in late October, I started taking Benji to Daycare once a week to work with Joe. And oh my goodness, his progress! In these last few months I've seen my Benji go from being a hyperactive, anxious, always following me EVERYWHERE doggo to a more independent, self-monitored, energetic one. He had started with some severe separation anxiety where I couldn't even be in the kitchen without him being glued to my foot, even less leave him by himself without destroying everything around him or crying for 2hrs straight. Not even a stuffed Kong would keep him occupied. Now, Benji is perfectly content and relaxed hanging out on the couch while I'm cooking. He can be left alone in the living with a Kong and some toys and manage. He even goes off into my room by himself! That's not to say that EVERY instance is perfect, it all depends on his mood, but Benji has tools and more confidence to work through it when he's alone. By far one of my favorite things about Daycare are the report cards. Whether a video or a detailed message, I always look forward to Joe's summary of the day that includes pics of his dog friends and behavior notes, and activities. The doggos play Find It! games and puzzles, and practice crate training techniques to work through the separation anxiety. Benji still has a ways to go, but he wouldn't be where he is without Joe's patience, persistence, and compassion. I look forward to more progress! I'll update once Benji has graduated from Daycare 101 :D BONUS NOTE: Benji is WIPED after daycare, so it's a great opportunity for me to train him in nail-clipping. He's a lot less resistant! FYI: They do not reply to inquires within an hour (according to Yelp). It took them 2 days to respond to me. I began as a committed customer with morning 15 min walks and had 4 scheduled for the month of July. I had such a good experience with Tyler on the first 2 walks that I took the time to recommend their service to my entire new apartment building and posted it on our app message board. They switched walkers to Jeffrey (new) for the last 2 walks and instead of leaving my dog in the hallway gated area they put her back in her crate. I wasn't too happy about that because she had been crated 12 hours because I had to go out of town. That is the longest I've ever crated my baby in her 5 years of life. There are specific instructions for the dog walkers to follow and it is pure laziness to not read those instructions thoroughly ESPECIALLY on a first visit. After seeing the notes from the walker I texted the managers at 7/26/17 9:22am and let them know that my dog is not to be crated and they said they would send someone out within the hour. Ok that works! It was an honest oversight but they are going to correct it. I received notification at 7/26/17 11:13am from Patrick the owner that my dog was let out of the crate. So my follow-up question was she let out 2 hours later? This was his response: 7/26/17 4:33pm The morning caretaker, works from 7am-2pm, and I'd be happy to verify the exact time first thing in the morning tomorrow when he is next at work. We apologize once again for this error. I wait almost the entire day to email 7/27/17 7:28pm Patrick, I'm getting a little concerned. The sole reason I picked your service was due to the 5 star reviews on Yelp. I've been waiting for you to respond about what time my dog was let out but I haven't heard back from you yet. Whether it was actually 50 minutes or actually 70 minutes - I truly don't know. What I do know is that I have people and animals who really depend on me each day, some of them with real emergencies and I'm not going to be blackmailed by the threat of a Yelp review ***(Huh?)*** because I didn't answer a non urgent email for a non urgent issue in a timeline that comports with your worldview. I am sorry about that. But if you want to continue to make an issue of 20 minutes and take up your time soliciting camera records to find out where in the 20 minute window the minor issue was corrected that's entirely up to you. But I think you'd be better served if you used the time to find a new dog walking company. I'll make sure your Pet Check account is closed first thing in the morning and we'll make sure to have your key returned to the front desk of your building by close of business (5pm) tomorrow. I'll also wave all the charges for the two visits this week so that you actually haven't paid for any services-- you'll get them for free. Hopefully that will be enough to put this matter behind us so that we can consider it closed and resolved. After exhausting the goodwill of our friends, family, and neighbors with their offers to look after our cats whenever we're out of town, my husband and I decided to try a pet-sitting company, especially after work travel increased for both of us. Patrick's was the first place we tested last year and we haven't had to search for another provider. One of our cats has Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and has to live on a prescription diet. Any changes and stress in the environment, such as new people, can cause an obstruction. Sometimes he would even refuse to eat if there are strangers in the house. This means I'm especially overprotective of him. The staff at Patrick's are certainly pros as I always find my little boy fed and happy whenever I get home. He is also a bit more socialized and less shy around strangers ever since we started using Patrick's. I also like the GPS app that Patrick's uses; it lets us know when the pet-sitter has arrived at our place and then a message and photos of the visit. read more

Ive used Patrick's for almost 4 years. Their staff Is pretty much awesome all around. When I work from home I can see how excited my dogs are to greet their walker and vice versa. I want to start by saying that Patrick's Pet Care has good services. I'm not here to bash their pet care services, which were generally fine, or their staff, who I believe are good people who are great with dogs. Our issue with Patrick's is the pricing. The price of their services does not match the value. We stopped using Patrick's last week when the price increased nearly 50% to $25 per solo walk (a 15 minute walk!)--which came right after an increase in price earlier this year. We expressed our concern about the price increase. While the response from Patrick's was courteous, the reason given was simply "with the way our walkers are compensated, our solo walks have been underpriced for a long time." We understand and appreciate the need to compensate walkers fairly, but: 1) there are dozens of other companies that provide the same quality of pet care for a much more reasonable price; and 2) the group walks were not increased nearly as much as the solo walks were. I'm fine with paying a premium for a solo walk, but the solo walks were already much more expensive than the group walks before the price increase. Obviously Patrick's is free to price their services however they see fit, but we felt it was unreasonable and will not be using their services again. (Also--$25 for a 15 minute walk? I know they aren't paying their walkers $100 per hour, so where's the logic there?) We weren't dissatisfied with their services or customer service, so I have no reservations recommending Patrick's on that front. But the value isn't there for the price. Again, their services are fine, but nothing particularly special. At least for solo dog walks, you can get the same quality service for significantly less elsewhere in DC. read more

Patrick's Pet Care has the best walkers in the district! We have been loyal customers since August 2018 and we absolutely LOVE having them as our daily walkers for our pups. Shoutout to Ayodele - she is the best walker! Patrick's Pet Care prices can be quite steep but they're comparable to other dog walking services in the city. I have an old doggo (16 years old) and a young pup (1.5 years) and they take excellent care of both boys. For example, our old dog recently suffered a spinal injury and our walker tenderly carries him outside every day for a quick restroom break. Our walker is very personable as well and it's an absolute joy talking with her. Her daily status reports on their communication app always crack me up and I find myself saving every awesome photo she takes of my pups. I 100% recommend Patrick's Pet Care. I am so pumped that Patrick's Pet Care now offers grooming services! I have a 10 lb. Shih Tzu and Patrick did a great job recreating a "not too long, not too short" haircut from an old picture I had of her on my phone. He and his team were patient in listening to what I wanted and more importantly, I could tell that my dog was comfortable with them. She's a rescue and prone to separation anxiety, but she didn't panic when I left her and was in great spirits when I came to pick her up! So Patrick's Pet Care used to be really great. I met Patrick on my street and really felt a personal touch from his attitude towards caring for my pup. Unfortunately, this week marked the final straw in the change from neighborhood community dog walker to money driven business. I can't believe the changes that have taken place. They charge you full price if you cancel your walk outside their limits, they have changed walkers on me three times (that I know of) without ever even telling me someone new would BE IN MY HOME, and the inconsistency from one walker to another on what I receive for notice of the walk is awful. The first walker I had would send me pics everyday...the next, nothing. To add insult to injury, they upped their prices this year. If you're looking for mediocre service and constantly changing policies and prices, this place is great. I have waited a month to write my review so it would not be as influenced by how I was treated. I am writing for those who really want care for their beloved pet. While I am certain that my dog would have loved being there, my behavior did not measure up to what the owner wanted to be bothered with. First of all, I am 75 and not very good with computer tasks. That may have been the first irritant, and then was my concern as I could not access the day my Standard Poodle spent there led to several misunderstandings: some mine and some theirs. I will not go over their failures to make things clear, but rather tell you what I did so you can be sure not to upset them and have your dog not permitted to go there. 1.I could not reach them by phone so I left a message that with my concerns not addressed, I could only give them a "3" so far. Do not threaten them! 2.Your dog does get to potty in a special area during the day. 3. If you are sent pictures of your dog on her first day, scroll over to the video so you can see your dog and hear the assessment from the trainer. The first page only has still pictures. 4.If you go to the page with the web camera, sometimes during the day it is not on. I mistakenly thought it was not working that day. 5.After her first day, I made an appointment for her to return. I woke up with a migraine headache and could not drive. It does not matter if you call as soon as they open so another dog on the wait list can go. You pay the day's fee if you don't call a day ahead of time. Do not question that rule, which I tried to clarify. After that conversation, my dog was "wait listed" until they finally told me, much to my sadness, my dog was banned. (or I was) We owned a very successful small business and were much sought after as Patrick's no doubt is. Sometimes our customers were elderly and got mixed up, but we still tried to work with all of them. My dog is my only companion and she needs to have more stimulation and the best of care. Thank goodness those random neighbors told us about Patrick's Pet Care! We were hauling our giant cat carrier to a friend's apartment, and they stopped us to basically recommend Patrick's Pet Care. We've now used them 3x for cat-sitting while we're away, and each time it's great. PROs: - It's super easy to set up a visit with them. You can do it all online, and they're also quite responsive on email. They're also very flexible (I've asked them, for example, if they can come a random assortment of days; I've also asked them to come on pretty short notice). - We have one house cat (who we love LIKE CRAZY) and so usually ask PPC to come by for the slightly pricier "social" visits - these are 30 minutes and, IIRC, $39/visit. They include food, litterbox, and play/socializing/cuddling. - Every time a PPC person visits, they scan in and then scan out (they give you a QR code to slap on your fridge). At the end of each visit, we get an e-mail with a short update of how our cat's doing, lots of compliments of how great our cat is (which SHE IS), and then several photos. Honestly, when we're on vacation, we LIVE for these updates! How we miss the meows! CONs: - None, really. It's true that different people come to do the daily social visit, and so they'll have different styles of updates: some updates are rich narratives full of warmth, some of more short/practical. These people do NOT know how to talk with or respectfully communicate with their customers (who spend $$$ a month). Not to mention, their system keeps changin making it hard to keep up with pre-paid packages. Our dog Ollie was nervous at first he quickly warmed up to it. With the help and support of Emma at the small dogs daycare he now gets so excited for his days full of play and fun activities! We are thrilled to see him so happy, and to see the progress he's made even after only about a month of attending the Montessori school. We use Patrick's Pet Care and their puppy program every day for Gary, our English Bulldog. Our regular pet walker Melissa is reliable and very good with Gary. She provides us twice daily updates on how Gary does on his walks. Gary stayed at the Pet B&B over the recent holiday weekend. We were so worried when his tail pocket got infected right before we were going out of town. We provided some ointment and instructions for twice daily care. I was really worried that we would have to take him to the hospital when we got back. Indeed, it was quite the opposite, as the Patrick's Pet Care team provided expert care to his area. Also, as we were returning around 8pm (outside of their pickup window), we used Pet Force One, their awesome driver service; when we arrived, Gary was safe and crated at home. Aside from him returning home happy, well adjusted, with no runny eyes or kennel cough, Gary's tail pocket infection had healed. COMPLETELY. We were thrilled. This was not what we expected! These folks are so reliable and good with animals. We've used them most for "social visits" to feed and keep our cat company while we're away. They come on time, feed the cat, and keep him from being totally unhappy. PPC is outstanding -- every single one of their employees truly cares about what they are doing and provides excellent care for their pup clients and human guardians. We've been working with Dakota and Joe for training walks and private training since a few weeks after adopting our beagle-mix Buddy, and they've been such an enormous help. Buddy has fear-based aggression, and Dakota has shown him so much kindness and patience, working so diligently to build trust and help Buddy become less fearful and more confident. The difference in Buddy's behavior is amazing, and I feel so grateful to know that he has a support system in the folks at PPC. We actually came across his card on our old buildings bulletin board a little over 3 years ago and heard that many of the neighbors used his services. When we first reached out to Patrick to check on the cats, he came to meet us and the kitties himself. This was the first time we had a stranger come into our home and check on the cats. I was honestly anxious about it but he texted us photos and kept us abreast of how they were doing during his visit and what he did. We so appreciated the personal touch and the connection made with Patrick. These initial steps really put us at ease and developed a trusting relationship. Fast forward a year or two and Patrick's business has expanded quickly. There was some tiny adjustments as he moved to a different platform and implemented new processes - which is normal for any growing business. We expressed our concerns because we didn't want that personal touch to get lost in the shuffle. He was immediately responsive and reassured us that that would not happen. I think that he definitely stuck to his word - he has hired additional staff including Dominic (the Associate General Manager) who is responsive and helps coordinate any of our needs. We've since moved from our last apartment and Dominic came by to grab a copy of our keys before we went on vacation and even brought an extra QR code just in case. He made a note of any changes from the last apartment and when one of Patrick's people came by it seemed like the whole process was seamless and there were no hiccups. We get an email letting us know when Patrick's Pet Care came to the apartment, how long they played with the cats, what they did for them (feed, clean litter box), and pics! My dog Rufus has enjoyed going to Patrick's for over a year now. Patrick's got Rufus some much needed dog socialization and helped me potty train him as a puppy. 1 Year Anniversary PPC Montessori School Mom and Pup Appreciation Post! From my first meeting with Emma (Montessori School and Grooming General Manager) to discuss goals for Kori, initial assessment and her acceptance to Montessori School, I knew PPC was special. Kori dancing into the doors of PPC is only enhanced by the report cards, pictures and videos I receive at the end of the day. In April of 2022 when Kori started at PPC, Emma has been Kori's favorite person. Emma's transition from teacher to general manager has been seamless. She is always an e-mail or phone call away. Most recently, Emma assisted me with choosing a better nylon leash for Kori and educated me on the pitfalls of retractable leashes. Bradley, Kori's new teacher, stepped in wonderfully and greets Kori with a "Hey Baby!" each time I drop her off. I would remiss if I didn't also mention the groomers at Brookland. The fear free grooming technique used is so loving and thoughtful and Kori always is so calm and cute after her session. Thank you PPC! We loved using Patrick's service for our two basset hounds. We used Patrick's overnight care. He would text pictures daily. We really enjoyed using his service. I am rating one star because of an email miscommunication. My email must have really hurt Patrick's feelings-he emailed back and stated he is too busy with overnight pet care and stated he no longer wanted to watch our boys. I couldn't believe what I read. I called and emailed back apologizing for whatever I did to make him upset. I begged him to let me make it right. He did not return my email or phone calls. I'm only happy this happened when he was not watching our boys. I cannot imagine what would have transpired if we were out of town and had this miscommunication while he was watching our boys. Patrick is great when he is in a good mood, but be careful with leaving your loved ones with him. read more

In the past, I've always relied on friends and family to take care of our two cats while out of town. Having just moved to D.C. days before needing pet sitting, I had to come up arrangements in short order. I sent Patrick an inquiry three days before the Memorial Day weekend (let's just say I should have been more organized) and he got back to me within hours. We worked out a fee and feeding plan. Patrick and his assistant, Ted, stopped by early the next morning to grab the keys and meet the cats. They paid careful attention to the directions on how to get into the apartment building, what the cats needed, etc. It is clear that Patrick is in the right line of work as he allowed the more friendly cat to crawl up onto his shoulders. The company logo is pure truth-in-advertising. While out of town, I appreciated receiving text and image updates, confirming that the sitter was able to get into the apartment and that the cats were doing well. We've been using Patrick's Pet Care for a mid-day dog walk for the past month or so, and we're really happy with the service we receive! Their name-your-price negotiable rates helped us find an arrangement that works with our budget, and they've been super-flexible about last-minute cancels (like if you let them know the night before that you need to take a sick day, they'll roll the walk over to the next week). They leave a note after every walk, and will send photo updates if asked. On the business side, Patrick's is a small, well-run organization. They accept payment by check or paypal, offer other services like overnight pet-sitting, and don't cut corners (even when it's been raining all week and your dog hates walking in the rain, cough cough). Patrick handles some clients' walks himself, and he and his staff have experience working with animals in other settings (e.g. as vet techs), so we're very comfortable trusting them with our dog. read more

Patrick has watched my cats twice and he is absolutely amazing. He does more than feed and water them, he makes they and the house are in tip top shape. He sends regular updates and is very communicative during his visits. I figure anyone who is willing to deal with hair balls and litter boxes is a five star guy!! Our puppy has been going to Patrick's Columbia Heights location for two months. We have not tried any other doggy daycares, but I can't imagine going anywhere else. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Each day they send a daily recap, often with photos of your pet. They also seem to give extra attention to new dogs, and young puppies which I really appreciated as a new customer. Their booking system and payment process is all through an online portal so it is super convenient. They also now offer grooming which we recently took advantage of. Our puppy looks great and the groomer spent the time to give a nice recap of how our puppy behaved during his grooming session. read more

When we moved to DC we weren't sure what we would do with our cocker spaniel during the day. We stumbled upon Patricks Pet Care via google, and I am so glad that we did! Patrick and Yon (our dog walker) both came to do a meet and greet prior to us deciding to choose them. They were both very friendly and our 4yr old dog took to them right away. They have a great technologically advanced system that sends me an email everyday when Yon arrives and when he leaves. It comes complete with notes as to what happened on the walk. It is the highlight of my work day seeing what my little nugget did during the day! We have our walks scheduled M-F and the price is very reasonable. Everyone at Patrick's has gone above and beyond to provide a fantastic experience for our loving and VERY high energy Whoodle puppy, Bruce. Bruce is A LOT. Puppy Head Start with Nikita was great for socialization and training basics; one on one training with Nikita has led to successful leash walking and significant improvement on managing excitement around people and dogs; Bruce's first grooming session was positive and the services were excellent; and the team has been incredibly accommodating as we get Bruce started at Daycare 101 / Montessori. Team members at Patrick's truly care about each dog and work together to create the right experience for your pup. Finding a dog walker we trust is normally a difficult task, however, Patrick makes you feel comfortable with he and his staff from the first meeting. They are professional and when we needed a dog walker quickly, Patrick was very accomodating. You can schedule online and the walker scans an personal code when they come and leave so you know they were there and how long they were gone. The only issue is the time of day for a walk is not really negotiable, the dog is walked when they are in the neighborhood. I understand this but its the only change I would request. Overall, we are very happy with the service and hope to try them for sitting when we finally get a vacation! read more
