Tonight was our second visit. We got there around 7:30. 25 min wait for a table of 5. We were sat and our servers came to take our drink order. The server was in training and being helped by another server. We ordered our drinks and that is where the problems started. My wife ordered coffee and didn't get a spoon to stir the sugar or cream. We received no straws and no silverware so she had to wait for several minutes until the servers came back. When they came back no spoon or silverware. She then ask for a straw. They gave us one. Five drinks and one straw? We asked for more straws they gave us four They came back 5 min later and took our order. That went fairly smooth and they asked if I wanted my sale first since I ordered it with my side. I said sure that would be great. 10 to 15 minutes later our food comes out. No salad just my burger. We asked for it and she obviously forgot we asked for it first. After we got our food we realized still no silverware and we asked for it again telling the waiter we can't eat without it. They finally bring silverware after several minutes. Next we realized the bacon side my wife ordered with our waffle was not on the table. We waited 5 minutes and I got up and went to the front where the food comes out and asked a guy if he could get it for us. He said sure no problem. He shows up with the bacon after a few minutes. In the meantime no server had checked on us to see if we had everything or even asked if I wanted condiments for my burger. Which I did but gave up after waiting. The guy that delivered the bacon asked how everything was and I told him that we have had a terrible experience so far. I explained all the above and how our expectations were not high when we got there and we rarely ever complain about service but this was the worst we have had in years. He asked who our server was and I told him she was the one in trading. He said ok and he apologized. He then said he would give us some discount cards for our next visit. My wife and I looked at each other after he left and said I guess he thinks we are coming back. He brought us 5 $5 dollar off cards which was generous but my point of this whole thing was to point out the poor experience and lack of training. I was a waiter in college so I tried to give each waiter a chance to do their job. This time it was a complete failure all around. After we talked to the manager the server in training did t come back to the table for the last 20 minutes we were there. The trainer did fiannly come back to take a few plates begrudgingly. When he did he gave us this sassy look with a tone in his voice showing attitude. Apparently the manager had words with him and it was his turn to show us he didn't do anything wrong. We had a one waffles with a side of bacon, one waffle no side, meat loaf dinner, cheese burger with salad, eggs with hash browns, bacon and pancakes. For three adults and two kids it was $63.61 dollars. I gave a $10 tip which was more than they deserved. Also, while we were wrapping up our visit the manager and bartender were having a fight behind the bar in front of the customers. This happened more than once in a 20 minute period. Very unprofessional! A manager should never have words with another employee in front of the guests. Our first visit btw was similar experience but the service was better and we sat at the bar by the kitchen.I ordered the ranchero breakfast which is supposed to have sausage in it but didn't have any in the meat in it. They cooked a side of sausage after I complained but no one even checked to see if it was on the plate when it came out the first time. For a meal that costs $12 to $15 you would expect to have something worth your money. My wife had a waffle and they also left off her strawberry sugar butter. In summary, the wait times are long due to limited seating and slow table turnovers, the restaurant is very noisy, the food orders don't come out as ordered or not at all, tables are not setup with utensils and finally the service this last visit was an epic fail. read more

Metro Diner isn't your classic diner experience. My family has been a couple of times and we've had some hits and some misses on both visits. Even though diners tend to excel with breakfast foods we have found them to be inconsistent whereas the lunch and dinner options have all been pretty good. Prices are also not comparable to a typical old school diner, this is more like a casual chain restaurant in terms of price points ($10-$15 per person). This isn't a restaurant that we frequent by any means but it's a fun change of pace occasionally. read more

Our neighbor recommended this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We showed up on a Monday morning and the place was about a third full. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which was very good. My wife also liked her meal but she prefers a thick cut bacon instead of thin type they serve. The only minor (and I do mean minor) was our server could have been more attentive. However, since other servers cleared dishes it wasn't a real issue. I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast. read more

My mom, son and I were in town for a few days for a little family getaway. We were greeted and seated right away. My son still sits in a highchair and they were very accommodating to him. Our waitress, Rosie, was so friendly and welcoming, she made us feel right at home. She was very familiar with the menu when we had a few questions about what breakfast items to order. We decided to order Huevos Rancheros w/ a side of extra crispy hash browns and The Bissell Breakfast. The food did not disappoint and the quantity was great. The manager was also there and made sure to come around and ask how we enjoyed our food and the service. We felt like she genuinely cared that we enjoyed ourselves. This is actually 2 reviews in one. First two visits were for breakfast. One was bacon and eggs and the other trip was Eggs Benedict. Both with hash browns. Everything was perfect, and I was excited to find a spot here in Tennessee that actually served hash browns NOT in a casserole. The first two trips were 5 stars easily. Loved it so much I came back Ordered Eggs Benedict again, and my two sons ordered sides of hash browns (they had tried the new Krispy Creme right before coming here). 10 minutes goes by and the waiter comes back to say the order was lost and what was it we wanted, he apologized and blamed himself. 40+ years of management I know mistakes are going to happen and it is how you handle them that matters. Order comes out 10 minutes later. Hash browns were not crispy for my boys and they were soggy. My poached eggs were very over done, to the point the waiter walked by and noticed it. He offered to get me more eggs but I had eaten most of them and it is not his fault. I asked him if some of the kitchen staff was in training and he said no. Bad experience but hey these things happen, Trip #4 was last night because my youngest son wanted to try the Philly Cheese Steak. Wife ordered Eggs Benedict, older son ordered a Monte Cristo Sandwich, younger son got his cheese steak, and I wanted one of the specials off the board. Waitress informs me the board is wrong, those specials are from the day before and they didn't change it, Now I am thinking this is not good. Instincts were right. My wife's Eggs Benedict had over cooked eggs and soggy, greasy hash browns. Both sons were happy with their meals. I ordered the Fish and Chips special, fish and shrimp together, but got just regular fish and chips. Fish was soggy and breading was lacking any flavor, and they didn't put any tarter sauce on the plate. Fries were excellent. yeah last two were one star visits, so overall a three star average. Definitely get your money's worth. It's nearly impossible to eat all the food that comes out to the table! The servers are very friendly and you get seated rather quickly even if there is a wait. My only tip would be the Breakfast Pie. My sister ordered this and the liquid from eggs was overbearing and the food was swimming in it. ( I wouldn't order that). Well i kept on debating whether to try this place or not and i finally came. It was a busy Sunday, we arrived about 11 and put our name on the list, was told about 45 min wait. We waited pretty much right in front of the hostess stand and 45 min passed so we asked about how many people is in front of us and they said they called our names 10 min ago and the hostess was so rude when she came and got us and said i went up to you guys and said our party name twice! Ok so I went to the Metro Diner on its opening weekend and I have to say I was impressed.... I have now gone back a few times and each time the food quality and quantity has gone down hill . I went last night to the Diner it was around 5:30 . I ordered the fish and chips. When I received my food I had a gigantic plate of fries and four tiny " Fish Fingers ". The fish was hot the fries were cold . I finished off the fish in a few bites and still had a heap of fries . Felt like I was paying good money for a plate of fries not fish and chips . Basically it was all chips and no fish . We went on Sunday morning and expected a long wait, ended up being over 30 minutes. There were lots of wait seating available. The biggest reason for this post is to let management know of the outside door issue. The door slams extremely loud and hard. If you're sitting on the wall of the door, it is substantially irritating. I would love to suggest for the management team to sit on the benches and do experience it. I would suggest putting the door softener cushions. I think it would go a long way. I look forward to coming back and seeing that it got repaired. The menu looks good and the facility clean. I am saddened to write this review because when I visited this chain in Birmingham, I was ecstatic and overjoyed about my experience, but I couldn't say the for this experience. I brought my family in for brunch and the service we receive was absolutely horrible. We had Jayden (or Jalen - not sure of the pronunciation) and after taking our orders, we did not see him again. He did not come check to refill our drinks, ask if our food was okay, or to even see if our food came out. We had to ask other waitress for items that we needed. So not impressed from the moment I walked in the door. Was not greeted until i made eye contact with tge bartender (5 minutes). I order and my server informed me that they don't give drinks in glass because they don't have them (not true). I asked for 2 entrees, the chicken and waffles as well as the roasted turkey plate. Was told they ran out of turkey. The waffles came to the table and I had to wait for the syrup. The kitchen ........ I was very set back by the fact that the entire kitchen staff had no masks which is ok except they were yelling back and forth to each other about orders while holding food in front of themselves. I noticed the expo behind the line have on gloves half the time while all but one of the five touched there clothes or face at some point during my visit. Went for breakfast and when we arrived it was packed, i was told it would only be about a 10-15 minute wait for 3 but it ended up being a 30 minute wait. Once we finally got seated we were ready to order but it took awhile for us to get greeted. Once we were greeted we gave the server our drink order and wanted to go ahead and order our food as well but she told us let her grab our drinks first. The food took about 45 minutes to come and when we asked the server she mentioned something about the kitchen being behind. We had very high expectations for the food considering how packed the place was but when it finally arrived all 3 of our meals had cold under cooked hash browns, and hard rubbery pancakes. My friend and boyfriends had one pancake that was not even edible it was so hard. My friends meal was also missing her toast and when they brought it out they brought her the white instead of wheat. The eggs were also very dry and cold and tasted as if they've been sitting out for hours. The only semi good item in my meal was the sausage. I seriously do not understand why the positive reviews. Paid for? Compensated for? Who knows but this place was awful!! The server smelled like she smoked 20 packs of cigarettes before coming to serve me. The menu is a diabetes over load no wonder everyone in the South is over weight!! The portions are HUGE, very appropriate for the price. Lots of diner style staples but so many choices with a unique twist. The Monte Crisco was perfection, the meatloaf and mashed potatoes were delicious comfort food, the southern eggs Benedict special was a cool twist and the shrimp and grits were crazy flavorful! When my family and I heard about this place, we were immediately drawn in by the number of reviews on the chicken and waffles. We first tried that dish and were savoring over their strawberry butter and special sauce for the chicken ( that consisted of maple syrup and louisiana hot sauce ). This dish, the chicken parmesean, is by far one of their best of the menu. The chicken is savory and tender. The pasta is cooked perfectly. The garlic bread, seasoned with herbs and spices compliments the dish beautifully. Some restaurants have good food but bad service but Metro Diner does not disappoint. This was the third day back serving in the dining room since the Covid 19 virus hit. We went in about 10:30 this morning, I ordered an Omelet and my wife ordered a Burger. We both ordered home fries for a side and we sent them back for being burned. I also had a biscuit and had to send it back, should have sent it to the Predators for a hockey puck. The second one was better. I certainly hope that they get better as they are open longer and back to full strength. Not sure if we'll try it again. The three stars were generous.
