My daughter and I went to brunch today (Sunday) for a quick bite and Timothy was our server. He was a cool guy and the food was great. It came out like, super fast! About 7 minutes after we ordered it and he had our drinks to us quick too even though we was double sat. I know management at some restaurants don't like when their servers sit down next for a quick sec to catch a breather and make quick small talk, but my daughter and I didn't mind that he sat for a quick 20 seconds with us, it made our meal more personable and we felt right at home the whole time. We live in Goshen, but are definitely gonna make the trip out to Mishawaka to see you guys twice a month for brunch. I'm giving 3 stars based on the server we had. Stopped in for breakfast on Saturday 9/8. Seated right away. Was told our server would be with us shortly. We waited 5mins before someone other than our server asked us if we would like something to drink. I mentioned the wait time and the server said "Ashley" should be with us soon. I then watched this person go go up and whisper to someone (who turned out to be Ashley). After that took place Ashley came right over, took our order and walked away. Ashley was never smiling or engaged with others not even the people she worked with. She never came and asked how the food was. Why hire someone like that? We came here based on friends' recommendations. It is in a strip mall, in a crazy busy area with lots of dining choices...once inside, it's a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Not fancy, just comfortable. So glad we came here. It was a week day so they were not too busy. We were seated promptly, our server arrived to get our drink orders...she highly praised the drink special of green tea with blackberry & jasmine. Sis & I had our doubts but went for it anyway. And it was delicious!! Very refreshing on a hot summer's day. Sister Dear went for the Holy Davoli - and cleaned her plate! It was an awesome burger/sandwiches...! Mom had the chicken & waffles. Who woulda thunk it that maple syrup + hot sauce would be so good! The chicken was a bit dark on the outside but tender & juicy on the inside. Plus plenty to take home. I had the Big City Burger and I must confess, I would not get it again. Even with all of the other toppings, the sausage patty overwhelmed the burger. That being said, I'd bet that anything made with that same sausage would be incredibly delicious. The menu is extensive and we all had trouble deciding what to order... I went to Metro Diner on a Tuesday for brunch. My son ordered eggs, hash browns, and toast. I ordered the French dip , my favorite sandwich to order in restaurants. Metro Diner reviews show that ample portion size is part of their formula. There was very, very little meat on this French dip sandwich. I shared with wait person when she asked about our meals. She asked if I would lift the bun to show her. There was about 1/2 slice of paper thin beef on one side. There was about 1 slice of paper thin beef on the other side of this bun. She must have had the foresight to tip off the floor manager. He came to the booth and inquired. He said they place 6 ozs on it. This was not 6 ounces, which is almost a third pound . (Think of the meat in a third pound burger. ) I showed him the side I hadn't eaten. I told him the sandwich is good, the au jus is great, but the meat is very light. I was disappointed that he did not offer to remake the Sandwich part. For a $12 sandwich (I paid 5o cents more for onion rings than fries), it not something your average person would order again. Look at photos of other sandwiches on yelp and portion size of the club sandwich for example. I think Metro is doing a lot of things well. This sandwich was not to their standard for sure. The onion rings were nicely done, but only 5 on the plate. The plate didn't look full when it was set down. Think of the size of French fries on their plates. For as busy as it is, I am thoroughly impressed with how quickly we got sat, and how fast the service was. Our server, Christopher, was delightful and patient with our littlest diner. To top off prompt service and great customer service, the food was delicious. I had the spicy chicken biscuit, which was just enough kick and plenty of sweetness. Our table raves about the hash browns and bacon being perfectly cooked to or liking as well. This is a wonderful spot for a family breakfast. Went to the Metro Diner yesterday to have dinner. The person sitting us asked if we wanted a booth. We walked to the booth and there were crumbs and what looked like syrup on one of the seats. We asked to sit at a table. The young man took us to a table. Although our state is at full capacity I noticed there were zero covid barriers to protect customers. Tables and booths were close together for still being in a pandemic. As we sat looking at our menu, at least 10 minutes passed and we still hadn't been waited on. It was busy inside and the restaurant was full so we decided to wait. At least four tables around us cleared from customers leaving and we still hadn't been waited on. A waitress went by, the person who sat us passed by twice not acknowledging us, the young man who I learned later was our waiter never approached our table. I finally flagged down the person who sat us and asked to speak to the manager. He came to our table and we told him how long we had been waiting. He apologized and asked if he could take our order. I told him we wouldn't be staying. My decision was based on the neglect of service, the lack of covid barriers, the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant, and the unkempt look of the staff, especially our waiter and the cooks. I won't be eating at this diner again. Which is a shame because they have decent food. We have been there twice before but every time the restaurant has looked unclean. It just looks messy and not kept up. A very dismal experience this time. Enough to keep us away for good. Only giving two stars because of the food. Otherwise, it is one star. read more

Everytime I have gone they have always been great. The food delicious and well priced. And I always take my four nephews with me. The last waitress we had she engaged with all of them. Helped them make their lunch choices and kept them stocked on coloring paper when she seen they had finished one. I have never felt rushed. Even in their busy hours. They are helpful at picking something good to eat if you are new. And the staff is always very sweet. I stopped in after a trip to the store. We 20 minute wait today at lunch that for Saturday everybody was having a wonderful time waiting and chatty when we got to our table the waitress was very quick and taking orders and delivering or drink the soup was wonderful the portions were very generous is that the club sandwich was so big I took half of it home will definitely be back again. My daughter-in-law had the avocado toast it was served with two eggs poached "actually I think she chose poched you can choose whichever way you want. my son has a Reuben and my husband has a big bike BLTs. I noticed several people coming in after me and being waited on. I finally flagged down the hostess and she said she would get a server. The server finally came, I ordered immediately, and was served promptly. Then it came time for the bill. I waited, and waited, and waited before the server came close enough to my table that I could flag her down. I gave her the money right away and she went to get change. The food is high calorie and salty. I ordered the bacon mushroom cheese burger. It was well cooked but the bacon was extremely salty. The French fries were not crisp and so salty I couldn't finish them. Unfortunately the meal gave me indigestion. I don't understand what makes this diner attractive to guests. read more

I went there yesterday (6.14.20) with several members of my family, and we had a really great meal. The service was very good and we did not have to wait long at all to get our breakfast. However--we sat close enough to the grill for me to see one of the cooks who had his mask pulled down to his chin the entire time we were there. All the other employees had theirs on. I understand that we all have our own opinions about this whole virus scare, but this was a brazen display on non-compliance in a food service business. When we left, I stopped at the reservation desk and asked the gal if there was a manager on duty. She said there were three. I didn't pitch a complaint with anyone except her, but with THREE managers present, none of them seemed to apparently be the least bit concerned about any re-opening guidelines. I'd like to think my having mentioned this would have led to them correcting this, but who knows? Otherwise, it is a great local business I would recommend. read more

Went for their preview and was very pleased. Food was delicious and they have a wonderful variety. We were asked if we wanted coffee refills way too often..but that is rarely a problem at most places..you usually want more. They were training during a soft open, so we know the servers were just getting used to things. Server was very friendly and took good care of us. If ZERO was an option, I would choose it. Visit to Costco with my sister and she wanted to eat here. Told her my experiences had not been good, but she said she really wanted to try it. OMG can i just say THE WORST restaurant experience in a long time. Order the 1/2 chicken dinner. Told waitress we were going to split it, dark and white. She said they could not do that. It would come out together and we could decide what to do with it. Asked for an extra biscuit. Waitress drops the food and we realize there is no extra biscuit. Call her over and realize 1/2 the chicken is MISSING from the plate - you know, the one they couldn't split. Asked her where the food was? She said it will be five minutes. #1, since you couldn't spit it, why would you deliver 1/2 meal to our table with no explanation and walk away? #2 why didn't you just hold the part that was done and serve all together? Remember, we were having lunch together. Got the extra biscuit and another ten minutes goes by. My sister ate the biscuit while I finished my entire lunch. Finally got the waitress and told here to put it in a box as our lunch was OVER. Waited. Waited. A different server walks up and serves the chicken on a plate - NOT a box. Again, explain lunch is over. My sister never got to eat and now we needed to leave. PLEASE put in a box. The original waitress walks back to our table and threw the bag of food at us. Keep in mind, up to this point, we were never rude in any way. Just frustrated. After throwing the food our way I said THANK YOU and she never even looked back. Reported the whole incident to the manager who apologized. Paid the bill and explained as a business owner, I would be out of business if MY people treated customers that way. Love the breakfast at Metro Diner. Large portions allows me to take some home to enjoy later. I always get the eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. One thing I will note though is how much grease is used to make the hash browns. I know you have to use enough to get a nice crispy outer layer, but these are seriously GREASY. When I put my leftovers into the take-out box, there always is a big puddle of grease left on my plate. When I pry the leftovers out of the box at home to re-heat, the potatoes are a solid block due to the hardened grease. I always warm up my leftovers in a skillet and of course there is no need to spray the pan or add anything because there is still more than enough grease to re-brown the potatoes. As I said, I do enjoy their breakfasts and will continue to eat there, as long as my arteries allow. :-) My friend ordered a "short stack" of pancakes to go with his breakfast and we were surprised at how expensive a couple pancakes were (almost $8 if I remember correctly). Came to South Bend from Ohio to visit family for the weekend. Staying with my sister she suggested two new restaurants for dinner. I selected the Metro because of their menu offerings were a bit different than most. I usually look for meals out of the norm. Put that together with triple D and Guy F from food channel. You can't go wrong. When I travel for business the challenge is always to find a Guy triple D endorsed food establishment. I was torn between the meatloaf and the shrimp and grits. My sister chose the meat loaf and loved it. I chose the shrimp and grits. Just let me say this is no ordinary meal. It was awesome. If you like good quality shrimp, heavy flavorful white gravy, and fried grits that have been taken to a different level then put them together in one stacked dish and you will be in hog heaven. I'm a big guy but walked out happy and stuffed. We arrived about 6:30 on a Good Friday night, patrons were sitting on benches out front and with many standing inside waiting to be seated. What we expected to be a long wait, was no wait at all because our seating was only 3 people. Larger parties took a bit more time. We were in and out in less than an hour, had excellent food, and nice conversation with server Victoria who was exceptional at taking care of us. We will definitely go back when we family. And got to have the shrimp and grits one more time before we head back to Ohio on Monday afternoon. read more
