Very good food! Go for it ! Try the Carolina style shrimp and grits! Or go for the chicken and waffles. They have a long menu with lots of great breakfast items too read more

Good diner but they need Taylor Ham on the menu for those from up North! Food is good.

Great food, great service. Lots of options, price range 8-16 so lots of variety. You could get a huge dinner meal or a sandwich and fries, soup, burgers, tons of stuff. Try it, everything I've had has been great. Recommend: burgers, broccoli cheddar soup, blackened fish sandwich (huge), onion rings, all the breakfast menu, Philly cheese steaks, and anything in daily special. The only thing I noticed had room for improvement was the French fries. Not as crispy / texture was off. Just ok for fries. Long wait times for brunch on weekends because it's great and worth it, so just arrive before you start getting super hungry lol read more

Metro Diner takes Southern American diner food to a new level of delicious. They have all the classics made fresh with unique twists to make them extra memorable WITHOUT the sticky tables and bad black coffee. Just be aware: the lines can be extensive and they do not take reservations. read more

Loved the food & atmosphere! My son - a very picky eater- ate everything on his plate- a minor miracle!

Great place. Menu is fantastic and the portions are huge. Only complaint would be the size of the dishes.

Love this place! The San Francisco Eggs Benedict is my favorite. Good hashbrowns. The place can be packed at times, but service is fast.

Usually a long wait because everyone knows it's the best brunch place in town, but it's totally worth it, especially when they serve complimentary coffee outside. Servings big enough to please Dad's appetite. Friendly service, too. read more

Thank you Rachel for outstanding customer service and for making my first time at Metro Diner a pleasant one! Excellent food and great customer service! My new favorite spot! Go Noles read more

Portions are great, food tastes great. I had the biscuits and gravy, some of the best I've ever had.

Went to Metro diner for lunch based on Yelp reviews and was very satisfied! Food, atmosphere, and service were all great! The only thing I didn't like was the 10 minute wait. Thanks Metro Diner for an excellent meal, and thanks Yelp community for the suggestion! read more

Probably the best diner in North Florida. Superb food, well prepared and the service is exemplary. The food is prepared and served by people who care about providing an excellent dining experience. In other words "this ain't no ordinary place." I eat here about twice per week and have never been disappointed. read more

This is the place for real food and excellent service. The Surf & Turf Benedict was excellent because it had real Blue Crab meat in the crab cake. And the corned beef hash was not salty as it is at a lot of other places. Despite being a really busy place this business has developed a great service model that other places could emulate. read more

Yummy! Home cook style meals. Large portions extensive menu lol lots of items to choose!

On our way back from vacation, we stopped by the Metro Diner due to its overwhelming good reviews online, and boy did they deliver! I had the mahi mahi sandwich with zucchini as a side. I actually hesitated when ordering the zucchini because it's always a disappointment, but to my surprise, it was cut fairly thick (which prevented sogginess) and sautéed well. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. It's half a chicken served with a Belgian waffle and strawberry butter. I sat across the table with envy. He did share some of his chicken and waffles and it was delicious. The skin was crispy and the chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The waffle was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. But the kicker was that strawberry butter. Outstanding. My boys had chicken fingers and a turkey burger with homemade potato chips that were excellent. Again, the potato chips were cooked well, and vey crunchy. The only criticism I would give is that the vegetables and fish were not seasoned properly, but other than that, it was great food, a family friendly atmosphere, and excellent service. *Extra points for offering a gluten free bread option for those who have a gluten sensitivity. I would recommend you stop by if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed. read more

I mean, its breakfast. You screw this up, you should immediately close up shop. Everyone is nice and talkative.

Just visiting my mom from CT, and have to say best scrambled eggs ever! You could taste the real butter they were cooked in - doesnt get better than that- home fries from real potatoes, and plenty of butter to put on toast. Also very attentive and efficient waiter. read more

Food was amazing and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Everyone I went with was satisfied with their meal.

Originally first discovered Metro Diner in Jacksonville, so glad Gainesville has one now! The food is great, options plentiful, great place to eat. Be sure you have some time, not that the service is slow, but it is so good there is almost always a line to get in! read more

Nothing but exceedingly good review here. It was everyone's first time at Metro Diner and customer service was super friendly and lively. They make you feel at home there. We ordered the infamous chicken & waffles which did not disappoint. We also had the southern eggs Benedict which was also cooked to perfection. We will be coming back numerous times and will be spreading the word for this place. We've heard nothing but good things and we're all so happy we finally ate here. read more

The grilled chicken platter was good, Mac and Cheese is scooped from a pot, should be top broiled for freshness, but wasnt bad. The french fries were limp and soggy, either sitting out or oil not hot enough. You do get a good portion and everyone in the restaurant is very nice. read more

I haven't had a bad meal at the Metro Diner. I have ordered all sorts of dishes from the fried chicken, to their burgers, and salads. Loved them all. The service has always been good as well. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a coworker, so we thought we would give it a try. They said it would be an hour wait. It was actually 12 minutes. I did like their system of notifying you via phone where you are in line and when you are up for a table. The restaurant itself was a very college town vibe, and extremely noisy. We thought we would try the pot roast and the meatloaf. When it came out it was covered in this horrible dark canned gravy. The mashed potatoes look like they were homemade, but being smothered in this crap they were horrible. You really couldn't taste the roast beef because of the gravy, and the meatloaf was the weirdest texture ever. It's like it was ground up in a blender and shaped into a loaf pan. It was...mushy. I thought the green beans were very good, and they seemed fresh. Do I recommend this restaurant? Well, we won't go there again. Maybe it would be good for breakfast? read more

The wait can be very long on weekends, but sometimes moves faster than anticipated. Great food and great service.

Their Huevos Rancheros is my favorite dish to get at Metro Diner during breakfast hours

The waffle and chicken!!!! OMG! It was absolutely delicious. My husband and I loved it! We will definitely visit again. read more

Excellent, friendly service. Delicious food. But too many awesome choices for one visit!

Crowded but worth the wait. Portions on Chicken & Waffles are too much for one person, but I gave it a try. Fried Green Tomato Benedict was a hit! read more

Brought my parents here for a fast and filling lunch and was not disappointed! Healthy options among the greasy standards. Had the home style turkey and mashed potatoes - perfect portion size. Love that they brought out a tea box of different hot teas (as a tea drinker, I get sick of standard Lipton black tea!). Would definitely come back for a big fattening burger or something read more

Great diner food! We went with a big group for a late breakfast and had amazing food and great service. The portions were huge, as was the menu. I had the eggs Benedict and it was very good! It is hard to find a good Hollandaise sauce, but they have it figured out. read more
