This place is awesome!!! We ate here for Sunday Brunch before heading back home from visiting UF and the food was AMAZING!! I got the pancakes with fruit baked in them and a side of grits and it was soooo good! read more

Had the meatloaf plate and it was awesome, best meatloaf from a restaurant I've had, my wife had chicken and waffles for the first time the chicken was juicy and tasted amazing waffles were great also, if I'm ever back in Gainesville will definitely come here again. read more

This metro location lives up to the expectations I have as a jacksonville native who grew up steps away from the original! Excellent service, great food and the same atmosphere I've loved. I'm always willing to brave their weekend breakfast lines because they are worth it!! read more

The best service in town, turning frowns upside down. Making the orders your way, not subway nor chickfelle. Sincerely, Randy Taylor

I want to take the time to call out hostess Vanessa from 9/29/17. She was amazing. She was not only friendly, helpful & professional, but she was more attentive than a hostess is expected to be. She assisted a 92-yr-old woman, & did it w/ a smile. She later returned twice to check on our table. Just a genuinely nice young woman! Food was still great-- lots of delicious leftovers @ a low cost considering quality & quantity. read more

New in town for a wedding and was looking for something different from the hotel breakfast. Where the locals eat, that's for me. Had good ratings so we went. Entering the restaurant we were greeted and led to a small table with two people were sitting so ask for a booth. No problem he cleaned it up quick and was seated! Fast friendly service with a great menu. Order eggs Benedict which were very good. My Girlfriend order a Belgium waffle again very good. Great waiter, pricing, no problems. They were very busy with locals. Go there for a great breakfast. The hash browns, fantastic with a very large portion. read more

1 of my FAVORITE places to eat.. my co-workers and I have made a pact to only eat there on payday so we can get whatever we want (which is basically anything off the menu)... 1 small gripe.. the chicken is typically really salty but still sooooooo good.. LOVE THIS PLACE read more

I love metro. It is by far one of my most favorite diners in Gainesville. Food is delicious and they have many vegetarian and gluten free options. Get the veggie omelet. read more

Every time I come in it is a great and personal experience. This time I had Nick. Courteous and responded to my jokes and playful banter. The Manager Richard came over just to say hi and engage in some conversation. I had the Meatloaf Dinner, to which I cleaned my plate. Thank you again Metro Diner family. I'll be back soon. read more

The Chicken and Waffles with strawberry butter is my go-to dish, it's amazing! My boyfriend got the Breakfast Pizza during our last visit here and we were impressed with it as well. I love that this place has breakfast available anytime! read more

This is best place to eat and drink. You get the diner experience when you visit here. The food is flawless and the service is a little slow. But any place with flawless food will have slower service because thats how busy they stay. So be mentally prepared to wait and get your food slower. Theres not a thing on the menu i have hated. I go every-time im in town. read more

Been coming to Gainesville for years never tried this dining experience. Fantastic meal and enjoyed sitting at the counter watching the magic of food prep happen Will be back again ! read more

Great service and food on a relaxing atmosphere love this place !! Had the pancake and h can add whatever you want I had blueberries and pecans delicious. The senior egg sandwich on multigrain was great as well Will definitely be returning !! read more

Loved this place. Sitting at the breakfast bar and watching all the cooks do their thing was really fun. The food was great, I went healthy this time but I did try the strawberry butter which was amazing. Next time, I'll go all out and try the cream cheese stuffed French toast - it looked amazing. read more

I absolutely love this place. I came here the other day and ordered their breakfast combination - I would come back and eat here any day

I tend to put diners in their own category, and this one is their King. Heaping portions of well prepared, well seasoned, hometown favorites with a spin of fresh originality. Since it was our first visit, we ordered two of their specialities; the Bold City Burger and the Halla on the Square. Both were excellent in their own ways. The burger had great textures and flavors, with just the right amount of heat from the fried jalapeño strips, the fries come out fresh n hot, and it was big enough to split. Which was a good thing because once we turned our attention to the Halla there was no stopping us. Rich, creamy, not cloyingly sweet, bursting with berries and grounded by the brown sugar cream cheese. Really an outstanding creation. I'm only in town for a week, but I'm already planning to go back and check out their chicken and waffles with homemade strawberry butter. And I'll be there in that sweet spot between 2-5 when there's little to no wait and plenty of attentive service. Tell your friends. read more

Metro Diner - Both meals were delicious but that Halla was a stunner when she first came out with blueberries bubbling. - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

I used to live in San Marco, a Jacksonville neighborhood where the first Metro Diner opened many years ago. That place crushes it - one of the best breakfast places I've ever eaten at, period. This place, however? Uh, good luck with that. And keep your choices to the breakfast. This is yet another example of a place expanding out to try and capture a market, and failing at it. College students aren't too bright, and this place is near campus and next to apartments, guaranteeing a steady stream of drunken students that will eat anything and think its great. I had a steak for lunch...bad idea. Cheap meat, cooked poorly. The potatoes? Very untasty. My tea was old and cloudy & the glass felt a bit slimy. This is one of the few times I haven't left any tip. Maybe this Metro has a good breakfast too, but I'll never find out because I don't give restaurants more than one chance...I work too hard for my money to waste it on places with crappy food. read more

Great place food always cooked correctly and you never leave here hungry. The best go to place for breakfast

In a word - delicious! My husband and I met our friends there for brunch this past weekend. We were up in Gainesville for the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire. We were told the wait was 20 minutes and boom! In like 5 or 6 minutes we were seated! The waitress was actually the trainer and she was phenomenal! She was pleasant, never rushed us and refilled our drinks promptly! The food was just delicious! I had the hamburger steak and eggs and my husband had an omelet. The atmosphere outside was just perfect and it wasn't extremely nosy that we couldn't hear each other. I will definitely go here again when we stop in Gainesville in the fall! read more

I go here for breakfast or brunch a lot and it is always good. Very busy all of the time though, so there is always a wait.

Really big portion sizes. I had the chicken and waffles, my boyfriend had the bbq pulled pork, Mac and cheese and waffles. They were delicious. Will try here again. read more

We have been here before and had a pleasant experience but that was last year. This visit we were seated at a table and then waited for maybe 8 min before being greeted by a server. Five minutes in, I had set a 3 min timer on my phone and we would've gotten up to leave. Turned out our server was busy hanging out shooting the breeze with other servers and came over just as our timer was going off. Rough start. Anyway, we order the traditional benedicts, and pastrami sandwich. The English muffin had some moldy spots and the eggs were over cooked. As for the pastrami sandwich, it was ok. Pretty straight forward and nothing special. Service was better once she took our orders. Left here pretty disappointed. Cannot recommend. read more

A favorite for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Extensive menu. Generous portion sizes at great prices. Friendly atmosphere. Can be crowded and a bit noisy but what diner isn't? read more

One of the best diners I have ever seen. Reasonably clean, great selection and wait staff was very attentive.

Went there when it was really busy, however was seated promptly. Service was great and the food was delicious! I had the chicken and waffle.

The food and service was great. Awesome bacon... cooked perfectly. Yum! The floor is very slick, so tread carefully! read more

Although I have been going to the Jacksonville location (the original) and the St. Augustine one for a few years now, I am always excited to find another Metro Diner. A bit smaller than the others, but that only gave it a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere. The Grilled 3 Cheese Sandwich (gotta add the bacon!!) was beyond a shadow of a doubt, the absolute best grilled cheese I have ever had. And the fries were perfect, as well. In fact, I went back the next day to order it again. I most definitely will revisit next time I am in Gainesville. read more

I've been to Metro Diner several times. Every time there has been a wait, but that's the only bad thing I have to say about it. Usually the wait is only about 20-25 minutes and they are very quick clearing off tables. The service is always quick and the food comes in about 20 minutes. Likewise, the atmosphere is very friendly, but a little loud. Now for the food. This morning when I went with my grandparents, I ordered the Fried Chicken Benedict and they split the Chicken Pot Pie. Both were very large portions and really good. The spicy gravy on top of mine was AMAZING. I took the other half that I couldn't finish, and I ended up eating it 30 minute later. read more

I don't think I can say anything new and exciting about Metro that hasn't already been said. They are wonderful, the food very tasty and the staff is always friendly and attentive. read more

Had dinner at the Metro and really enjoyed it. "Drinks" were good, food was good, service was good and it was clean and efficient. This is not Outback, not the Roadhouse and they do not present you with an Outback or Road House bill. This is a diner with really good diner food with diner pricing. Will definitely be back. I thank them for the experience. read more

Everyone here is so friendly, the service is great. As far as staff goes, I'd give them five stars. The food however just isn't good. I had the Big Bern and it tasted like old grease. Other than grease, there wasn't any flavor to the sandwich. I think there was one fried jalepeno on it. I got the side of "fresh" fruit. Whatever preservative they put on the cut fruit had an overwhelming taste. My brother had the Monte Cristo. It was over cooked and he said tasted like burned grease. We ended up getting the majority of our food to go, portions are enormous, but threw them away after we both started feeling less than great after our lunches. The problem is I've been to Metro Diner in St Augustine and had the Big Bern there. It was delicious there. I was excited to try the Metro Diner here, but unfortunately the food can't compare to the Diner in St Augustine. read more

Good food and service is the best it can be with it being so busy all the time. Looking forward to trying lunch. Great that you can have breakfast/lunch anytime! read more

Metro is an excellent brunch diner offering a variety of breakfast and lunch meals on the go. The food is good and they have some nice daily specials. A great place to go with friends! read more

If you want top shelf quality and huge portions for the price, this is the place for you. The menu here is so diverse that it is hard to complain for picky eaters. If you bring metro gear you get a discount off the check. Try them out at least once! My suggestion is the chicken and waffles or the biscuits and sausage gravy. read more

The first time I went, I had their chicken and waffles. They were okay, the sauce was the best part (hot sauce and syrup mixed is a great combo). They have large portions too, but the waffles get soft/soggy really quickly and the chicken was just okay. The second time I went, I got the meatloaf dish and fell in love. All of the elements are really tasty and perfect and if I'm ever in the mood for meatloaf or comfort food, Metro diner will be my go to place :) read more

I went to Gainesville to look for an apartment and instead of finding housing I was able to find love. I read about metro diner through yelp and as always it did not disappoint. This was one of the best brunch places that I have ever been to and all of the food that I ordered, don't judge, was the best food that I have eaten for brunch. The fried chicken was crispy but yet it was not oily. It had a good crisp to ever bite, but also filled with meat so not overly fried. They provided a maple syrup hot sauce but I didn't even use it because the fried chicken was delicious without any sauce. And I'm a sauce kind of guy. Their burrito pizza was also amazing the bread is made out of biscuit and underneath the layer of cheese and eggs that you can see from the picture it's loaded with sausages and bacon, oh and also fried jalapeños on top. Yes I just said fried jalapeños on top. Finally their French toast which I do not remember the name but it is one of their signature dishes was unbelievable. The bread was fluffy, the cream was rich, and the blueberries were sweet. It is the best thing that you will eat in this restaurant and potentially in your life. I never thought fried chicken and French toast could taste this good. Unfortunately I still have not found a place to live, but I find peace in knowing that I can use my rent money to pay for future meals here while sleeping in my car read more

It was my first visit and I absolutely loved it I definitely will be returning for the chicken and waffles although I only had hash browns and pancakes it was awesome!!! read more

I wanted to like this place, I really did. I've tried it three times now and it has just left something to be desired every time. The first time I came for lunch, got the chicken salad sandwich. The fries were cold and the croissant was dry and crumbling in my hands. The next time I got an omelet. It was alright, but the eggs tasted like a mix instead of real eggs. The last time I tried the biscuits and gravy. Taste wise they were the best out of all dishes I tried, but the gravy was not hot. All three times the service was ok, but not great. I had to wait a long time to ask for a napkin after getting my food because the server didn't check back until we were almost done eating. Overall, I think I'm done trying with this place. read more

Food was great. Ordered seafood Benedict and enjoyed it. Bloody Mary's are good as well. Not too spicy but can be made extra spicy if you want. read more

Really enjoyed the food. It's not necessarily true diner food, more southern I think. But I actually can't wait to go back.
