One of my fave restaurants, always consistent, high quality and good service. We usually come for dinner, though they are more popular as a breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. Ordered French Toast- it's as good or better than many others have reported. Crunchy, fluffy and not soggy. Get it with fruit. The berries add a nice touch. House made jam is also special. Ordered Eggs Benedict, which is also a do not miss dish. Their fresh eggs and well-balanced hollandaise sauce make this a unique, bright and satisfying dish. It was raining outside, so each seat was packed inside, making it for a busier experience than it already usually is for brunch, but it was cozy with a welcoming feel. We really enjoyed ourselves. read more

I came here to meet some of my SF aunties who were visiting from out of town for the weekend and I was delighted that they chose this yummy eats location. They seemed to have a wide variety of breakfast and brunch options. The table ordered a stack of pancakes to share which was delish! I got their green matcha latte that came with honey and it was so freaking good! They were easily able to accommodate a table of 11 with ease. The staff are considerate and attentive and the vibe in the restaurant is all but good brunch vibes. read more

Great spot for classic breakfast or lunch, with gigantic portions and personable staff who welcome you as family even if it's your 1st time! This time I got the huevos with guacamole and the BLT avocado salad that had enough bacon to satiate the biggest bacon lover! I also love the turkey scramble, French toast, and chevapici (sp?) a grilled minced meat sausage that is addictive. If you order more than one plate, you will definitely be taking leftovers home unless you've got a huge appetite! read more

Wow, best service, great vibe, incredible breakfast (Smoked Salmon Benedict; unbelievably thick pudding-like french toast) and actually delicious coffee!!! I'm almost always disappointed in restaurant coffee but these guys had some premium brew going. And they kept the pot circulating around. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Originally we were headed to another breakfast place but the lively atmosphere, open to the breeze walls and vaulted ceilings of this place drew us in[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It was packed on a Sunday morning. Lots of people with dogs. Waited maybe 10mins. Sat outside. It was a beautiful day. The service was very attentive & the guys were really nice. Got 3 meals bc my daughter couldn't decide. I got the Country Scrambled with crispy potatoes. Sooo good! They have the butter on the side, something I really appreciated bc I didn't want butter this day. My daughter got the banana pancakes & a bacon & eggs meal. I would definitely come back! We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and had such a great experience. We came here for breakfast and loved the lively, upbeat atmosphere--it had a great energy without being overwhelming. We were seated quickly (party of two), and our server was super friendly and attentive throughout the meal. I ordered the avocado toast, which was fresh and generously topped--definitely a hearty and satisfying portion. The avocados were creamy and flavorful, and everything tasted really fresh. My only critique is the bread: it was a bit too thick and made the dish a little tricky to eat. It was hard to cut through cleanly, and the toppings kept sliding off. That said, the overall experience was still very positive! I'd definitely come back to try more from the menu. read more

First time experience at Metro Cafe, and didn't know what to expect. I came with a friend, and I decided to try their chicken salad. Top-notch fresh ingredients with the perfect amount of protein and dressing tossed in with mixed greens, made out to be a delicious meal. This salad didn't disappoint. This place was so worth the drive from the valley again. My friends and I needed to drop off our friend at LAX and we stumbled upon this cafe that was serving some good food. The waiter was so incredibly sweet and helpful with his recommendations. We all fell in love with the egg salmon Benedict that we're willing to come here every time for breakfast. We've been going to Metro Cafe since the El Segundo location opened. We primarily go for dinner, but have enjoyed breakfast (and lunch) there many times as well. The owners, staff and service are all great, and we've gotten to know them well over the years. When we go there, it feels like meeting with old friends. The decor is simple and clean, with a very relaxing vibe. And there's a large variety of delicious choices on the menu - with very reasonable prices. If you're there for dinner, you'll get the dinner menu, and usually another 'specials' menu, but you can also choose anything from the lunch menu (you can ask for it when you sit down). There are some great salad and sandwich options on it. We've tried a lot of other restaurants in El Segundo, but we keep going back to Metro Cafe because it's consistently good. I'm partial to the Ribeye steak, and my wife usually goes for the fish of the day (typically Sea Bass). You can choose from a variety of different side dishes to go with your main course. I also really like their Chicken Salad (on the lunch menu). And my son's favorite is the chicken pesto pasta (not always on the menu, but you just have to ask). You'll get fresh bread served before the meal, with a side of their delicious Ajvar (roasted red pepper) spread, and butter. They also offer a variety of desert options, but my wife and I always get a Cappuccino, which is fantastic (they have their own bean blend, which they also sell by the bag, so we use it at home too). We've also ordered from Metro when we've had gatherings at our home; usually getting a party tray of their Cevapcici (grilled Serbian sausage with chopped onions). You can't eat just one! If you're in the South Bay area, I highly recommend giving Metro a try. You can also check out their original Culver City location, which is just as good, although the size and ambiance of the El Segundo location is nicer, in my opinion. read more

Great spot not far from the water which means you get an amazing sea breeze if you take advantage of their plentiful outdoor seating. Actually, the indoor section bleeds into the outside so regardless you'll love it. This place is quintessentially the definition of beach cafe. Think burgers, burritos, French toast, grilled chicken sandwiches, California scrambles. Service is chill. Easy. No complaints. We'll be back! read more

Came here with relatives who live in the LA area and highly recommend it as one of their favorite brunch places! The weather was great and we sat outside on the patio under the umbrellas. Two of us got omelettes - California omelette and the seasonal vegetables. They come with potatoes which were really great and bread and a slice watermelon. The hubs got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and another person got the metro salad with chicken. Portions are pretty good and filling. The California omelette comes with avocado and spinach and sour cream which is so interesting. We were all very full and satisfied with the meal! Service was friendly and the relatives know some of the staff too so that was great. The inside of the restaurant looked nice too. Great experience! read more

We were able to get seated right away which was a relief! The servers were also very sweet and always checked in on us. We got the eggs florentine, french toast and kids chocolate chip pancakes. The serving sizes were perfect! Don't worry about parking, there's a lot behind the restaurant available. There was also outdoor seating which is a lovely option with nice weather. Almost a 5/5 star review, food and customer service was amazing. Restaurant had plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. The wait time was little to none on a Sunday which is unheard of in LA. The only issue I had was the food took a little long to come out. But overall food was amazing and definitely finding back. read more

The food was amazing and the service was top notch. I was in town to meet up with friends for a reunion. My friend and I wanted something sweet and something savory so one of us ordered the California scramble and the other ordered the French toast and we split it. Our waiter graciously obliged us and brought us an extra plate without any extra charge or fuss. It was really the best of both worlds. Super thick cut French toast with berries was just delicious and satisfied our sweet craving while the scramble was amazing with a generous portion of avocado. And the potatoes had the perfect layer of crispiness! Our server told us about the banana pancakes as well. I will definitely be back there next time I'm in town ! read more

Based on my two separate visits, I barely give Metro Cafe 2 stars. First visit: I liked the open concept indoor floor plan and outdoor patio seating. I enjoyed my garlic and spinach scramble. It came with a side of toast and nice variety of fruit. Service was great. Second visit: Didn't eat. Had to leave before being seated. It had just rained earlier in the morning so there was no one dining outdoors. Indoors was crowded, but there were still three tables available. Two - tables that seat 4 and One - table that seat 2. The gentleman who was seating pointed towards the direction of where all three empty tables were, but when my party of two were ready to sit down at the same table I sat at during my first visit, he told us we had to sit at the small table that was elbow distance to the table next to it. He stated that he needed to leave the other two tables for larger parties. Does that mean that if the next two parties after us are parties of two, they would have to wait until a smaller table opened up because only parties of four can sit at those available tables? Not logical, so I left. read more

My opinion of this restaurant has completely turned around. If you read my reviews, you realize that I rarely ever give any business a one star review. I generally try to give everybody the benefit of the doubt no matter what. What occurred this morning at restaurant was completely unacceptable, however. It was all brought about by one staff member who was either poorly trained or someone who doesn't understand how a restaurant should operate. To tell the story, we walked into this restaurant and there were several available tables. The host points in the direction where three tables were located. We went and sat at a table that we have sat at previously. We sit down, we're looking at the menu, and then he walks up and tells us we can't sit there. He says that this is a table has four seats and two people can't sit at it. Again, we have sat at this table before without any problem at all. First of all, if that is the policy why have we sat and the table in the past when the restaurant was far more crowded? Secondarily, why did he initially allow us to choose our own table if he didn't want us to sit at a specific table? Finally, if this man was supposed to be the host, why didn't he walk us to the table he wanted us to sit at with our menus, which we actually had to carry ourselves? This staff member should really understand the rules of treating customers properly. Because this is not the way to do it. What happened? We got up and left. Thus, I cannot recommend this restaurant on any level. That may not matter much to the management, as this is a very popular restaurant. But, if their staff members treat their customers with this level of disrespect, this is just something you should keep in mind before you go here as it may very well happen to you. read more

If you're looking for a great casual meal in El Segundo, check out Metro for salads, sandwiches, burgers, soups, and coffee. The staff was attentive, friendly, and welcoming; they let me choose which table I wanted to sit at and brought me water right away. They have a variety of seating options, including high tops along the large windows, regular low tables, bar seating, and an outdoor patio. You could tell they genuinely appreciated you dining with them, and this made me feel welcome and want to return again soon. For parking, there's plenty of free street parking on both Grand Ave and in the neighborhood streets, along with free parking in the structure connected to Metro. For coffee, they carry the Italian-style by Caffe Luxxe, roasted locally in Los Angeles. It was a little late in the day for me for coffee this time, but I've had it here before and it was smooth and delicious. To drink, I went with the Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice ($9) and it was so delicious, fresh, and refreshing that I drank it way faster than I'd intended. For my lunch entree, I felt like the salad with the same name as their establishment would be a good choice, and I was not disappointed with my decision. The Metro Salad ($19) comes with red gem lettuce, watercress, English peas, a generous portion of freshly sliced avocado, almonds, thinly shaved manchego sheep's cheese, and mint dressing. I added the grilled chicken ($5) and it was perfectly cooked and paired well with the Metro Salad. Overall, a great casual experience, and I can't wait to return again soon! read more

The spicy tuna crispy rice was so rich in flavor, and the crispy rice truly was crispy. The shrimp taquitos were unlike anything i've tried before! I was expecting some classic taquitos filled with shrimp but this place really goes above and beyond with this dish. The shrimps were wrapped (as you can see in the photo) and it was so good!! I definitely plan on coming back if i'm ever in the area. The ambience of this place is beautiful too, we came during the day but I really want to see how it is at night. I would say this is a great spot for a date night with a partner or friends.

I ordered the MB Post Burger, which comes with a 1/2 pound grilled patty, American Cheese, applewood bacon, and honey chipotle aioli, between English muffin buns. I added a sunny side up egg to it for an extra few bucks. The burger was messy, and difficult to eat. Ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife. I expected the egg to be a bit runny, but it was cooked all the way through. All in all, it wasn't enjoyable to eat. The crispy fries were not any better. To me, they tasted overly fried. The only thing I thought was exceptional was the bacon cheddar buttermilk biscuit with the whipped honey butter. It was buttery and crispy goodness. This item alone is worth coming back to this restaurant. Overall, this place is a solid 4 star restaurant. If you're planning on visiting this place, I have to warn you that parking may be a real pain to find since the area is very popular with beach goers. Things were exacerbated over the weekend due to a volleyball tournament. Had to drive around for like 30 minutes to find parking.

The food looked just as good as it tasted. The smoked salmon and avocado toast was fresh and perfectly balanced, the spinach breakfast wrap was light but filling, and the yogurt bowl with fresh berries made a great addition to the meal. The coffee was excellent, and the iced matcha was refreshing on a warm day. The atmosphere is bright, relaxed, and perfect for a slow breakfast or brunch near the beach. Even with a full house, the staff stayed organized and never made us feel rushed. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Manhattan Beach.

I didn't leave disappointed, but I also didn't leave feeling like I'd want to come back. The restaurant itself is clean, modern, and has a nice atmosphere. It feels like one of those places where you'd meet up with friends, relax, and chat for a while. Visually, it makes a great first impression. The food, however, was average. I ordered the Best Avocado Toast, and while it wasn't bad, it's hard to justify the price. At the end of the day, it's avocado on toast, and I've honestly had more flavorful versions elsewhere for less money. The smoked salmon toast was also underwhelming. The salmon surprisingly lacked much of that smoky flavor, and the bread felt thicker than the toppings themselves, making the balance a little off. The shrimp Tom Yum soup was probably my biggest disappointment. At $14, I expected something with bold, authentic flavors. Instead, it tasted fairly basic. It had the citrusy notes you'd expect, but it was sweeter than I prefer, likely because of the amount of cherry tomatoes used. The service is where things became frustrating. We waited around 20 minutes before our order was taken, then roughly another 30 minutes before food started coming out. What made it more frustrating was that everything arrived at completely different times. The matcha latte came first, then the Tom Yum soup, and it was another 20 minutes before the rest of the entrées arrived. We ended up waiting so everyone could eat together instead of one person eating while everyone else watched. Normally I don't mind waiting if a restaurant is busy, but based on many of the Yelp reviews, this doesn't seem like a one-time occurrence. A common theme is that there's only one server running the dining room. Our waitress was friendly and polite, but she was clearly overwhelmed, juggling six or more tables by herself. I don't blame her--I blame the staffing. At one point I even watched someone wait over 30 minutes for two specialty drinks because the server was busy with other tables. That really summed up the experience. If the food had completely blown me away, I could overlook the long wait. Unfortunately, the flavors were simply average, so the overall experience didn't justify the prices or the time spent waiting. Would I come back? Probably not. I'm glad I gave it a try because it's a nice-looking café, but with average food, premium prices, and consistently slow service, there just wasn't enough to make me want to return.

You can dress your burger up a bunch of different ways but I went with grilled onions, pickles, tomato and lettuce (I'm a brave soul). The home sauce was very tasty and I got a few extras to dip my fries in. Speaking of fries, they are fried in beef tallow. That's all fine and well but the most important part was the fact that they survived my 15 minute drive home and were still crispy and tasty. This was overall very enjoyable and I suspect that they'll have more locations opening up in the not so distant future.

A dinner like this for this price should knock you socks off and not be "ok".

El Segundo legends are the great people at Metro Cafe. They were "cool" way long before anyone ever thought of that word. Many breakfast/cafe houses deserve the word spectacular. Metro has (my opinion) always been consistent in: QUALITY VALUE x PORTIONS VARIETY VIBE Take the word "PORTIONS" 3 Egg Omelette I ordered looks like it contains 3 LARGE eggs, Canadian bacon, and real cheddar slices. Why do I point that out? Most breakfast chains use pre-mixes and man-made cheddar. Like some goofy meat salesman I used to know would say, "Baby, you can TASTE the difference", or something like that. Funny, that statement applies to this Omelette in front of me. When I'm done evaluating, Imma' eat it! "VARIETY" I'm guessing there's some really "mad" culinary genius sitting in' the back just acting all Dr Frankensteinish' with unknown potions, non-gluten mixes and ancient old Country recipes only they know where from whence it came from or simply invented in their nice-diabolical kitchen lab of delicious delights, dig? Outstanding Experience at Metro Café! Everything from start to finish was absolutely delicious. We started with the fresh, crisp pear and frisée salad topped with blue cheese -- such a perfect balance of flavor and texture. The warm, crusty bread that followed was incredible -- perfectly toasted with a drizzle of olive oil and herbs. For the main course, the shrimp pasta was rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The sauce had just the right amount of creaminess and spice, and the portion size was spot on. My dining partner's mushroom pasta was equally amazing -- comforting and full of flavor. We finished with the strawberry dessert, which was light, creamy, and beautifully presented -- the perfect sweet ending to a great meal. I normally don't leave reviews, but this place definitely deserves my time. With decades of restaurant experience under my belt, I can proudly leave this review. The food is not fresh, the omelettes are from a carton of eggs with flour, the bacon they use is known as scraps in the industry, their toast is of the lowest grade quality that you can use, and the cheese is mostly oil and not dairy. The list could truly go on because low quality ingredients are a standard throughout their entire menu. Food 0 Service 0 Owner 0 I will leave you with this my friends, IHOP and DENNY'S are fine dining compared to Metro Cafe. The name Metro makes Metro Transportation look bad. A spacious, beautiful brunch location in El Segundo, CA. I wish I took photos of the inside because of how open and wide this space was. I'm so accustomed to small, cramped breakfast spots that this location felt like breath of fresh air. The food itself was great! I would definitely recommend their Smoked Salmon Benedict. And their Breakfast Potatoes were amazing. Great service as well! Bathrooms were clean! I maybe only waited 2-4 minutes before getting seated on a weekend. Parking = street parking + a parking garage just a block away. I would recommend street parking since this area did not have too much traffic. Would recommend and visit again! read more

This use to be my go to once a week with my family of 4. Now they're requiring the Vax to eat in, complete discrimination! So the people that don't have the injection need to eat outside. The tuna salad has another herb (tarragon?) that throws the flavor off. The chicken salad sandwich has picked carrots and jalapeños, which would be fine on the side, but annoying inside the sandwich. The grilled chicken they use on salads is covered in bland red sauce, makes salads unappealing. And the biggest creative debacle: The so-called caesar salad has spinach, carrots, corn, tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, and avocado, all in a balsamic vinaigrette. Even if you like it, THAT'S NOT A CAESAR SALAD. Sometimes chefs can't help themselves from gilding the lily.

I didn't leave disappointed, but I also didn't leave feeling like I'd want to come back. The restaurant itself is clean, modern, and has a nice atmosphere. It feels like one of those places where you'd meet up with friends, relax, and chat for a while. Visually, it makes a great first impression. The food, however, was average. I ordered the Best Avocado Toast, and while it wasn't bad, it's hard to justify the price. At the end of the day, it's avocado on toast, and I've honestly had more flavorful versions elsewhere for less money. The smoked salmon toast was also underwhelming. The salmon surprisingly lacked much of that smoky flavor, and the bread felt thicker than the toppings themselves, making the balance a little off. The shrimp Tom Yum soup was probably my biggest disappointment. At $14, I expected something with bold, authentic flavors. Instead, it tasted fairly basic. It had the citrusy notes you'd expect, but it was sweeter than I prefer, likely because of the amount of cherry tomatoes used. The service is where things became frustrating. We waited around 20 minutes before our order was taken, then roughly another 30 minutes before food started coming out. What made it more frustrating was that everything arrived at completely different times. The matcha latte came first, then the Tom Yum soup, and it was another 20 minutes before the rest of the entrées arrived. We ended up waiting so everyone could eat together instead of one person eating while everyone else watched. Normally I don't mind waiting if a restaurant is busy, but based on many of the Yelp reviews, this doesn't seem like a one-time occurrence. A common theme is that there's only one server running the dining room. Our waitress was friendly and polite, but she was clearly overwhelmed, juggling six or more tables by herself. I don't blame her--I blame the staffing. At one point I even watched someone wait over 30 minutes for two specialty drinks because the server was busy with other tables. That really summed up the experience. If the food had completely blown me away, I could overlook the long wait. Unfortunately, the flavors were simply average, so the overall experience didn't justify the prices or the time spent waiting. Would I come back? Probably not. I'm glad I gave it a try because it's a nice-looking café, but with average food, premium prices, and consistently slow service, there just wasn't enough to make me want to return.

At the time, there were numerous empty tables inside and on the patio. While we were being turned away, and after we left, we observed multiple parties who appeared to be Caucasian being seated. We were the only minority party present. Based on what we witnessed, we were left with the strong impression that we were treated differently. If every table was truly reserved beginning at 7:00 p.m., it is difficult to understand why other parties were still being seated while we were denied service. No explanation beyond "we're fully booked" was provided. Given the seriousness of what we experienced, we intend to formally pursue this matter through the appropriate channels. We also hope management reviews its reservation records and any available surveillance footage from that evening to determine exactly what occurred and ensure that every guest is treated fairly and with respect.
