After ordering it though I think I missed the boat. Their Korean food looked amazing and although my breakfast was good, their Korean style meats and kimchi looked even better. Rude service, but food is so good. They are Korean owned and super authentic, but with that...you get a poor attitude. The woman behind the counter didn't greet us at all and she didn't make any eye contact. At one point, I saw her rudely yell at another customer that requested sauce. The woman specifically told the customer, "this is not spicy sauce! It is for katsu not for Kalbi!" They have signs that sauces are extra charge but she didn't even offer the customer to pay for it. Luckily they are fast and I didn't have to watch her rudely yell at others for long. The food was really good. Meats were marinated well and the mac salad was seasoned. But, the winner was the kimchi! Both the cabbage and cucumber kimchi was *chef's kiss*! Best kimchi I've ever had. It was my first day in Waikiki and this seemed like a good lunch spot. It was empty when I arrived and I checked out the menu and it seemed pretty good. I ordered the bbq chicken which came with rice and you had the chance to pick 4 sides. I choose brócoli and 3 other types of salads. I waited about 10minutes for my food to be ready which was reasonable. I took the food back to my hotel room and enjoyed it there. It was amazing. Always a must when we stay in Waikiki for the last decade or so, and the quality is still consistent and hits the spot. Not gourmet Korean, but you're not expecting that with this hole in the wall. What they do well, they do really well, which is the proteins. BBQ chicken full: charred bbq chicken with 4 sides. Delicious and perfectly charred. Got a side of gochujang to add a little spice and definitely recommended. Sides: Got the potatoes, spicy cucumber, japchae, and Mac salad. Mac salads a 4/5, rest are fine but not outstanding. Potatoes were a bit too sweet for my taste. Japchae was a bit bland and spicy cucumber needed to be chilled and was lukewarm so not as tasty. Still, they all were collectively tasty and went great with the meal even though individually they weren't stand outs. Cheap and lot's of food! Right across from Musubi Iyasume and not far from the beach this place is where you should go for if you're hungry and it's late at night (and in a budget). Me and my friends call this place The Pink Place. All order comes with 4 sides (banchan) of your choice and two scoops of rice. I got the number #4 chicken katsu. To be honest the taste was pretty bland and everything were below average. But the people were nice and very generous with their servings, so it's not good for foodie but perfect for cheapskates. The Kalbi was the best! Each piece was so tender and lean. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken katsu because of it's thick batter and it was dry or overcooked. The two scoops of white rice and side dishes such as kimchi, spicy cucumber, and others completed the meal. This is a meal you go to when you're starving. It was so good that I ate the food cold the next day! There is also a fridge full of drinks such as Hawaiian sun fruit drinks and waters. Service/Ambiance: The restaurant does not have any indoor seating. There are a few tables outside the restaurant for you to enjoy your food. The food is made to order, so my wife and I waited about 20 minutes before our number was called. Also, there really isn't much parking in the Waikiki area, so if you are staying at a hotel nearby, I recommend you park there and walk over. FOOD: This is a really good spot for some Korean BBQ! Came 20 minutes before closing and they were still allowing people in at 8:40pm. Very large and generous portioned food. I got the Kalbi BBQ with Chicken Katsu rice combo with 4 sides (broccoli, Macaroni salad, kimchi, and cucumber). Enough food for 2 people or 2 or 3 meals depending on how much you eat. All for $17 so really good deal. WAIT: maybe 5-10 minute wait only. It was really quick and efficient. The lady tell you to wait outside and then calls you over when your food is ready. Impressive that she has such good memory! SEATING: outdoor tables to sit on to enjoy your food. It was quite busy when I went, so I took mine back to sit on my balcony instead. Still easily one of my favorite fast food places to grab when in Waikiki. For lunch we got the katsu chicken and kalbi beef combo over rice with 3 sides. We've tried the Mac and cheese, japgae noodles and the kimchi. The katsu chicken was one of my favorites. The Kalbi beef was good but a little light meaning not a lot of it and it was a bit salty, but still good. The Mac and cheese and kimchi were not our favorites as they lacked flavor. We then got another one for our airplane ride home with all 3 sides being japgae only and didn't bother with the other stuff. We ate it a few hours later on the plane and people were definitely jealous of the delicious smell! read more

I just finished inhaling my #15 Sunny's Special. Being from LA, we got the largest Korean population outside of Korea and I've had my share of delicious Korean food in LA. And I got to say, ME is on point. For the price of only $14.95 for the Sunny Special, the value and quality is completely worth it. It's enough to feed two people. Not to mention it's a great sampling of a little bit of everything: Kalbi, Meat Jun, BBQ Chicken, and Fried Mandu. Kalbi was flavorful and juicy. The Meat Jun is something new. I never had it before. Think I can skip on it next time, but at least I tried it! The BBQ Chicken was tender and not dry. The Fried Mandu was plump and packed with fillings. And if that and rice wasn't enough, you get 4 sides. I chose bean sprouts, kimchi, broccoli, and japchae. All the banchan was appetizing and refreshing. This place takes both card and cash. However, if you choose to use your card, there is a 4% charge. And if you're planning on using a 3rd party for ordering food, there is a mark up. So for example if I used Uber Eats, the #15 would cost an additional $5 but you only get 2 banchan instead of 4. So if you can, order directly with the restaurant! The fish jun box was a smaller portions than anticipated as it seems they reduced the amount of sides to chose since 2022. You are only allowed 2 vegetable sides. From the times I've come to Hawaii in the past, Me Barbecue has been one of those spots that many would fall back on for good food. From tourists to locals, you can find the best of both Hawaiis here. And now that the pandemic has winded down, I decided to give them a try and see if their food still holds up today. I walked over to Me's which is tucked away on a corner on Kūhiō Street. When I arrived around 12:30 PM on a Monday, there was a short line that extended just a little ways out of the door. Though this line seemed scary at first, people circulated in and out pretty quickly, allowing me to get up to the counter to order in just under 5 minutes. From there, I took a look at the menu for a few minutes, eyeing all of the food options they had to offer. But because there were so many items to choose from, I couldn't pick a single one. Because of this, I settled on their Sunny Special which was 18 dollars before tax. The food was ready in 10 minutes and I returned to my room to eat. **Note: All of their main plates comes with additional sides at no additional charge. Me's would give 4 free sides pre-pandemic. But due to inflation, they now only offer two. For this meal, I chose double macaroni salad. But you can choose from a variety such as kimchi, corn, bean sprouts, mixed vegetables, etc. Additional Note: Me's charges 4% extra should you use a credit card. Because of this, cash is preferred here!** I opened the box to be pleasantly surprised with a variety. The box consisted of one slab of Kalbi Shortribs, one slab of Barbecue Chicken, one slab of Meat Jun, two Fried Mandu, the Macaroni Salad I selected, and steamed rice. Because this was a special combination, I was expecting quantity to be traded for variety. But to my surprise, this special brought the best of both worlds. Variety was given, and in great portion too. Towards the end, I was beginning to feel that I had too much food to consume, but it was bearable to eat in the end. For 18 dollars, price to portion ratio was very good! At first, eighteen dollars might seem like a lot. But in the touristy Waikiki area, a single dish can average 16 dollars for something half as substantial. Because of this, I had more of a reason to pay two dollars extra to be stuffed. And if that wasn't enough, each item in the box tasted wonderful both together and individually. All of the items had a hint of sweetness to them, which made the special cohesive and an transition from one item to another. The kalbi was soft and tore apart easily when bit into. The meat itself was moist, fell off the bones, and had such a defined sweet taste that broke off into layers as you continued to eat. The meat jun was also soft, but was more on the lighter end of the sweet side. From what I could tell, the meat jun was a piece of barbecue beef that was coated in egg. But though it was somewhat foreign to me, it still tasted great. The egg added a creaminess to the meat that enhanced the sweetness more. The beef itself was marinated well as the flavor of the meat seemed to come from inside as opposed to any added sauce on the top. Last for the meat, the barbecue chicken was a mix of both worlds, having a light taste that also tasted defined. The meat pulled apart in such organized lines and maintained its moisture while doing so. The chicken had charred marks which mixed with the sweetness to make a sweet smoky flavor without a heavy sauce which made the chicken feel filling while not being heavy. Concluding the meats, each bridged well as they had similar characteristics, but also had their unique tastes which really made a powerful combo. Finishing off, the fried mandu tasted great as the ingredients inside tasted fresh. From the jap chae to the strong onions, the mandu gave some variation to the dish dominated by meat. The only downside was that the skin was somewhat soggy when it was more than likely supposed to be fried. The macaroni salad was more on the sweet side and was creamy, giving another thick carbohydrate to eat the meats with. And last, the rice was just as expected, moist, and complemented the rest of the items. In all, Me's multitude of items still holds up even after the pandemic! Having a little of everything made me want to go back immediately to order more. Additionally, having a little bit of everything was quite filling at the same time. Lastly, getting in and out was pretty easy, despite the little amount of space in the place. Because of these reasons, I argue Me's deserves a solid 5/5! If coming for the first time, I'd recommend getting one of the specials (Sunny's Special or Na's Special) to try a variety before settling on one single item. This way, you'll have an idea what to get should you return for more. If you're looking for quantity for cheap in the touristy area of Waikiki, Me's is a Korean/Hawaiian hole in the wall that is well worth your consideration! read more

I was looking for local food and this place was near our hotel ( Hyatt Regency Waikiki ) The menu was extensive and we finally settled on the Chicken/Beef Kalbi plate #35 and #34 Beef kalbi plate it came with two scoops of rice and two sides. Their new and current location (as of the date of this review) is on the ground floor of the Pacific Monarch Hotel, next to Musubi Cafe Iyasume. This is a hole in the wall Korean joint that sells BBQ meats. You basically pick which combination of meats you want and it comes with rice and 4 types of sides. The sides I saw were broccoli, bean sprout salad, kimchee, glass noodles, and...? Maybe a cabbage? This is a great place to go to if you're trying to keep your protein up and your carbs low. A box of meaty goodness. THEY DO NOT MESS AROUND. Imagine this. You came here for the meats, after a day swiming or surfing. And you are damn hungry. This place delivers!!! You're starving? Some of the most flavourful and delicious Korean food I have had in a while, and this is coming from a Southern California native too. Their Kalbi is no joke and they don't play around. Surprisingly tender especially for this cut of meat and flavourful! Their ban Chan's or side dishes are also not to be slept on as well. Their honey glazed potatoes and japchae as well as their kimchi's hit all the right spots and create the perfect balance of acidic, umami, and sweet.
