A bit of a hidden gem on the corner from Marugame, Mikawon and Vons Chicken is located on Kuhio Ave. We did not see a parking lot and do not believe there is one, so we went hunting for street parking. We actually found one within a block or two away, and walked to Mikawon from there. My friend heard that some of the BTS members went to Mikawon a few years ago when they were in Waikiki. As such, we decided to give it a go. The restaurant itself has seating on the left and right of the entrance after walking in. There seems to be more seating on the left, with a decent amount of tables. The decor on the walls has a lot of drawings and writing in Korean. The drawings are cute and a unique touch to the space. The windows feel pretty blocked off and with some blue lighting inside, the space feels pretty private. We were seated quickly and the banchan came quickly. The banchan was alright. We decided to get the kimchee stew and bulgogi ramen. It felt a little pricey for the items, as the ramen was about $16 and the stew was about $18. However, the portions were pretty decent and the flavors were great. The ramen was very flavorful with a greater depth of flavor than a lot of other ramens. The kimchee stew was also yummy. While the people working were pretty nice, we were not able to get a refill on our water for a while and had to ask them for some more water. We had some difficulty getting their attention as well. This was after we had finished our food. It was a bit late so maybe they were tired. We also sat for a while after and tried to get their attention to get the check. Then, they told us to pay at the register. We may have missed a sign for this as well but just felt like we were in limbo sitting there for a while. It could definitely have just been one of those days, and is not a reason not to give it another go here.

The restaurant looked clean, they ladies attending seem angry but I think that's their demeanor didn't seem friendly. But I am here to review the food, the ordering of food was simple came to take our order and we ordered the kimchi fried rice with egg, it was cooked perfectly and also the crispy chicken was so crispy and fresh the side dishes so good. I highly recommended this place for good authentic Korean food.

The food was great. The service wasn't the best. They forgot all of the starters (kimchee, etc) and then brought them out last (after we were done eating). Overall it was a great experience and good time.

Janet gave us awesome customer service. Food was excellent from kimchi fried rice, tteokbokki, jjap chae, meat jhun, fish jhun, kalbi, spicy pork and mandoo. Thank you, Janet!

We went on a trip to Oahu for ten days and felt we needed something different to eat other than loco moco or pok'e. We were craving for Korean food. Since we were near Kuhio, we found a Korean restaurant across the street from the International Market place. It looked very unassuming. The front just said Korean Restaurant. We were greeted by the host and seated near two other families who were eating. My daughter had a craving for the kimchi stew and I wanted the Vons chicken. We ordered a side of Kimchi fried rice too. Like most Korean restaurant, we were given Bonchan. The ambiance was very unique as the walls were covered with drawings from what I believe to be customers appreciation of the restaurant. There were the usual posters and commercial ads for Soju all around the walls. If you want and crave Korean food including Korean BBQ, Mikawon and Vons in Waikiki is the spot.

Came here for dinner because the line at Marugame was too long haha. Inside is pretty rundown, but they have lots of cute drawings on the wall (some of which kinda look like they came from the same person which is fine but feels a bit fake...). Service was fast but not super attentive. We ordered the garlic chicken wings, mul naengmyeon, tteokguk, kimchi pajeon, and fried mandoo. Wings were nice and crispy, probably the best thing along with the tteokguk which was also quite good! The naengmyeon tasted like it was from a pack, and fried mandoo seemed to be frozen. The pajeon was fine. Overall food is really meh here, but I guess it's nice to have a Korean option in Waikiki.

Not a fan of Von's since too sweet, so I went in with apprehension. Hubs got the Soon dubu...liked it. I got the Kalbi Tang. Super tasty. But meat tasted like it was frozen when it was cooked or something. Seafood pancake was really tasty - dashi in the batter maybe? Banchan was ok. Kimchee taste was good but seemed like they just made it and then served it so actual won bok lacked the flavor all the way through. Beansprouts needed salt. Pot was tasty. Mac salad was dry, but kinda liked it like that. And greens nice and fresh. I'd go back to try other things... and maybe ask for week old kim chee.

Mediocre Korean food. We tried the fried mandoo, garlic chicken wings, naengmyeon, tteokguk, and kimchi pajeon. Everything was very meh. I did not like the naengmyeon at all. Flavorless and bland. The only dish that I would maybe order again is the tteokguk. Service was fine. I do like the drawings they have lining their walls. Very cute and very creative! Overall, I will likely not be returning.

Today I got to try the Spicy Beef & vegetable Soup and it tasted very good. Also, the waitress was very friendly and helpful.

(takeout) kimchi soon tofu, comes with rice and side dishes

I tried Mikawon both in restaurant and via takeout, both times were amazing! There was a relatively short wait time to be seated and to receive my orders The food is authentic and flavorful. The kimchi pancake was so soft and delicious! The dolsot bibimbap was filling. The kimchi soon tofu was a perfect amount of spicy! (Takeout even came with some side dishes included) Even the side dishes are high-quality :) Service was wonderful. The wait staff and the takeout cashier were all very friendly and helpful! They even allowed me to add an egg into my soon tofu order^^ The restaurant is decorated with adorable hand-drawn posters from previous customers, giving it a cozy feel. I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys or is interested in trying Korean cuisine :)

Always decent good foods I started come here long years ago always consistent flavor and good attentive service . Panchan are very good include Kimchee always enjoy have food here when I come to Honolulu

Wings

I cannot begin to express how much I love this place. Each time I visit the island, Mikawons is my first stop. The best wings I have ever had! Service is good, it can get busy for dinner time but they do offer takeout.

If I don't fall into a tourist trap every now and then, did I really travel? Mikawan & Vons Chicken certainly delivered on that front. The Kal Bi (BBQ Short Ribs) was so tough it fell somewhere between regular short ribs and beef jerky. As for the banchan, it was the worst I've ever had--completely bland, like everything had been rinsed in water before serving. We barely touched any of it, including the kimchi. The only redeeming dish was the chicken wings, but even that came with a catch. Their menu is incredibly misleading. The large wall photos advertise prices for 6, 12, or 18 wings, but we were told there's a 10-piece minimum for dine-in because the 6-piece option is "takeout only." It felt like a tactic to make us order more. As for the service, it was awful. The server was rude and passive-aggressive for no reason, making an already disappointing experience even worse.

Is there any parking structures near by?

Park at the International Market Place and when you're done shop at IMP and get a validation for parking. This would be the best place for parking for Mikawon there is meter parking on the street but not recommended.

So the thing about coming to Fun Station is the "suspended flying noodle thingy" which I didn't go for, but if you like Instagramable stuffs, then I supposed you would probably go for that flying-noodle dish. As for me, I mainly came to try their Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, and as a bonus......... I actually got a 20% discount thanks to my friend - Jennifer C. who let a Bruddah know about da DEALAGES in da Sunday food section newspaper, as they had a coupon! The Sunday morning when I came with my friend, I can clearly see that this restaurant was thriving, as every table in the restaurant was taken. Fun Station specializes in noodles, but if you're not into that, they do serve other items like - soups, vegetable dishes, rice plates, & porridge (jook). Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings ($9.95) for an appetizer 2. Minute Chicken Cake Noodles ($17.95 - minus da 20% coupon DEALAGES) 3. Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. The cake noodles weren't drowning in gravy, so the noodles stayed crispy on the dish. I really liked how they did this dish, and would easily come back here to eat it again. My friend had the Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton soup. The dish looked good, and there weren't any complaints, so I take it that it was pretty ono! Overall, a very satisfying meal and the service here was on point, as the staff was friendly & very efficient. Easy 5 stars for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles! Chance 'em!

That was the first thing we ordered and the waiter asked if we've had it before so they could make sure that they presented it as the picture show it. We also ordered the chicken wings, salt and pepper pork chops, garlic, bok choy, and the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Everything was so delicious. Food was promptly delivered, and staff was very friendly. It's also BYOB and there's a Foodland in the parking lot so that was a plus as we went to the store to get some alcohol. Restaurant is very casual with about 10 to 12 tables. They were pretty busy when we arrived, but they moved with the quickness to make sure everyone got their food timely. I love the presentation of the flying noodle, although I was in a fan of the dish itself as it had a little sweetness, which I wasn't a fan of. It was just OK to me. However, everything else we ate was tasty and decently priced.

We ordered a spicy squid with kimbab, chive jeon, and an extra bowl of rice to share. The spicy squid was not spicy, but had a smokey depth. I drenched the kimbab in that sauce and it was easily the best thing I tried here. The chive jeon was extra crispy and packed with veggies. We easily agreed that we need to come back with a few more people, so we can either share the army stew or joxxam dish. Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what I should try next!

They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful.

The only thing they can beat at is the beef tongue, while it is still very good, Gyu Kaku has better beef tongue but it's just expensive so not worth it at all. Their banchan is great, I am a fan of the Kim Chi they serve here, it has a nice funk to it and a subtle sourness that cuts through the well marbled meat you'll be eating. The Kim Chi soup is also great as well, just as a warning, if you rarely eat kimchi you WILL have increased bowel movements which is not food poisoning but it's the probiotic gut health nature of Kim Chi that flushes you out. So eat it in moderation. My favorite picks are the Pork Jowl/Brisket/Bulgogi/Beef Belly, you literally cannot miss with whatever you pick, it's all very tasty and easy to eat. The service is awesome and feels homy, all the auntys walk around and do their own thing and sometimes check up on you/restock your banchan/soup if you want them to. They have a button you can press to ring them up but you rarely need to do it. If you're not used to how asian auntys talk or behave please don't take it negatively, they express themselves in a brusque manner but they really mean the best.
