Noel and I went to Franklin to enjoy a movie at the Franklin Theater. We stopped at Merridee's Breadbasket Bakery, Noel enjoyed a slice of Pumpkin Roll and Mocha Latte. I also had a Tea Cookie and a cup of Hot Cocoa. We had a nice snack before the movie and I would definitely eat here again. They have a great bakery and the aroma's was divine. They also make sandwiches and the prices didn't seem bad. The interior was so relaxing and vintage. I will definitely eat here again and update my reviews. read more

We absolutely love the cookies here and get them every time we have a road trip. The 4 stars? Regular sugar on the molasses cookies; turbinado sugar should be used! There is too much cakey sugar on them. :( But go there, get a bag of cookies, and dust off all the regular sugar. They'll still be good. read more

We came here on a Saturday for brunch and the line was out the door. As it was at most other places in downtown Franklin. Do not be intimidated by this line, it moves fairly quickly and there is anough turnover and space that there will be a table for you when you are done ordering. That said, don't be that guy that sends half your party to hold a table while you stand in line, that's not how it works, ANYWHERE! We ended up sitting outside in the back since it was a decent enough morning. I had the egg salad sandwich which was pretty basic, but the bread was excellent. It came with a soup, so I thought, but was mistaken. When I asked about it, they brought me one with no charge and I did not have to wait in that long line again. Great service! The pastries were the best part for sure as we got one of the mint fudges which was a great end to the meal. read more

Cute hometown feel with all the sweets and breads you want. I like going here and sitting outside on a warm day. Service is good. The food is pretty good- I'd like to see some more variety. I would have appreciated more options that are delicious with out dairy. I got the jambalaya soup and a side salad. There are several home made dressing to choose from. Their food is great, that can't be debated. Their catering is another issue though. I ordered their catering last week and after placing the whole order I was told at the end their delivery driver is out on maternity leave so I have to pick it up. That was super frustrating to hear since they clearly advertise delivery on their website. We really wanted a local place for brunch though so we agreed to pick up. We picked up and got back to our office and realized the egg, cheese and meat braids were very cold/ possibly previously frozen - clearly were cooked ahead of time and kept in the fridge/freezer. When I called about it they said since we picked up we have to heat it up on our own. I was specifically told by the guy on the phone if it was delivered they would have provided them heated. What?! I wanted delivery but you don't offer it!! I expressed my frustration that at no time was this mentioned nor did it say anything on their website about it. My office only has a very small microwave, we don't have an oven to reheat in. They basically told me oh well and I should have clarified when ordering that my food would be hot. Come on now, I've ordered catering hundreds of times and never had the responsibility of confirming my hot food would be hot. THEY should have asked me!! The manager was too busy to talk to me (it was 10am on a Tuesday, I can't imagine it was THAT busy). I ended up trying to microwave 1 piece at a time but my event was starting so we only got a small amount out. Don't get me wrong, the food is great. This is an update to my previous reviews, both 5 star. I have since been back numerous time and am still a huge fan of Merridee's especially their baked products. That having been said, I am puzzled about one particular item which is the ubiquitous biscuits and gravy, a staple of many southern breakfast institutions. So here is the million dollar question Why would you serve a gelatinous, gravy mix to serve on your (presumably) house made biscuits when you could offer something so much better when made from scratch....seems like a simple solution that would garner more likes and hopefully more business... read more

My husband wanted to order a lunch item (lunch starts at 11), and the guy at the register would not let him order just 4 minutes early. I mean, come on. I love Merridee's! I've been here twice now, and both times my food and drinks were delicious! I've tried some of their pastries, breakfast items and coffee and everything was great. The service was friendly and I just love the atmosphere in here, very homey. If you're going on a weekend, or sometimes even a weekday, be prepared for a little bit of a wait to order and get your food. It wasn't too bad and most places in downtown Franklin have waits, just something to note! I will most definitely be back! read more

My family each had a grilled sandwich. We had the Monte Cristo, the Patty Melt, the Ultimate Club & the Grilled Cheese for our little guy. ALL OF THESE SANDWICHES WERE ALL MADE TO PERFECTION!! The bread (different kinds) were all golden brown & they matched. Not a single spec of the bread was dark brown or black. I don't know how they do it. Lovely little place! The table area was full, and there was a line to order, but it was quick and efficient. They had a great selection of breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and whatnot. It had a bit of everything for all kinds of tastes. I had a portobello sandwich with basil mayonnaise, and a French silk pie. My daughter had a pastry roll that she had been eyeing and a cheese quesadilla. The prices were very reasonable. The quality of food was very good. The food was very delicious. The service was pretty quick. I liked the rustic look of the place, too. It even felt cozy, despite the fact that it was almost like a fast food (but much better!). Merridee's is a fixture in downtown Franklin. If you love baked goods, it is a great place to get them. Unfortunately, I eat gluten free, which explains why it has been so many years since I have eaten here. When my friend and I were discussing where to eat, I checked their menu to be sure there would be something for me to eat. I selected the "sampler plate"listed under salads. I guess I misunderstood that there would be some salad with the sampler. My meal came with three very, very small portions of egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad on top of maybe 5 lettuce leaves. Maybe that would work if one ate the gigantic pieces of bread on the side, but since I don't, I left hungry...came home and ate a snack. I didn't enjoy any of my samples so I won't be returning for more of those. It is in a lovely setting, so they have that going for them, hence three stars. read more

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Franklin. I took someone from the UK here hoping it would be a southern cafe to remember... sadly, it was only "okay." What Merridee's excels at: 1. The desserts. Absolutely mouthwatering. We had the Raspberry cheesecake square and chess square and both were delicious. I'd go back to try some pie. 2. The aesthetic of the restaurant. It's definitely got that "cute and country" charm to it, and feels super homey. There are bread baskets hanging from the ceiling that were pretty cool looking. What they can improve on: 1. The food. We ordered the chicken salad (had zero flavor... lease favorite I've had in the Nashville/Franklin area ever!), the Portobello Mushroom sandwich (my boyfriend said it was okay... nothing too exciting), and a PB&J (it looked like a toddler had assembled the sandwich. The jelly was all lumped in the middle). 2. The menu selections. Wasn't impressed with the menu. I would have liked to see more options. I though I was ordering chicken salad with mixed greens and fruit but it came out a frozen fruit salad. There should be an option to order traditional fruit. It wasn't a horrible experience, but I wouldn't go back for lunch. I'd be interested to try their breakfast, or I'd go back for a coffee and slice of pie. read more

I have worked here on two different occasions. This last stent of working there, i worked in the BOH and baked and there are rats/rat poop currently sitting in pans, bread pans, everything. They have to wrap up the pie crust device in a trash bag because if not, there will be rat poop in it. it apparently wasn't that big of a deal because no deep cleaning was done. Also, my husband was working with me. They offered him $15 an hour... but yet paid him $13 an hour. It's sad that management can't get it together to make things better for their employees. Being a previous restaurant owner I don't ever leave bad reviews but had to let others know on this because this is a pet peeve of mine. I sold my restaurant back in California and I always stressed to my staff how important customer service was. My management was very well organized. My husband wanted to put an order in and she said she was fully booked. I saw online that you could take out which was no problem for us. I went back in to ask if we could order take out, she said, "Sure." Why weren't we told that? I go to order but she's on her cell phone and has me wait while she texts. Someone else comes up to the register and tells us we can't order but we can order soup to go- that's it. No apologies for the confusion and seemed like we inconvenienced her. We were hungry so we ordered the soup to go anyway while we waited on the waitlist at 55 South (which is great). They call my name for the soup but do g know where it's placed. Asked the host if they called our name, she shakes her head and doesn't tell me where it's at just rolls her eyes, shakes her head yes. I'm sorry but I can't support a restaurant with this type of service. Especially since we've owned ourselves. We won't be back. read more

Had high hopes for Merridees, but was disappointed. If anyplace in the world should be able to prepare a proper southern sausage gravy it should be Merridees in Franklin TN. Sadly, they failed miserably! The gravy was too thin, it was not properly seasoned, tasteless, sausage was hard to find, and they didn't use the right sausage to make a proper southern sausage gravy. If one thinks the writer likes the "thick as mud" commercial junk that is passed off as gravy, you are mistaken. The perfect consistency is that beautiful thickness that comes from talent and experience, which was missing at Merridees. Not to pile on, but medium eggs were sent back twice, our omelet order was wrong, and the cinnamon roll that looked so delicious in the display case was very dry and required major nuking to make edible. Looking for breakfast in Franklin? The triple cheese quiche was delicious. They have a full bakery with bread, pies, scones and lots of fruit filled pastries. I tried the cinnamon twist and took a piece of pecan pie for later. Everything was delicious and the restaurant had an energy about it with lots of families. I overheard the little girl at the table next to me say "this is the best day ever!" She had powdered sugar French toast so I agreed with her. Absolutely loved this place!!! Stellar food, service, and ambience! I ordered a Cinnamon Roll Latte, my mom ordered Gold Rush (which I tried), we shared a Cinnamon Raisin Roll, and we got Viking Bread to-go. Everything was beyond delicious! I loved my Cinnamon Roll Latte the most but the Gold Rush was yummy as well. The Cinnamon Raisin Roll was so good, we wished we had ordered two (rather than sharing one lol). The Viking Bread (which we ate that afternoon) was so fresh and amazing. In fact, it was so good that this was the first time I happily ate sliced bread in like 10 years (context: I usually hate sliced bread). The menu had many different options, ranging from drinks and fresh bread, to salads and sandwiches. You could come here for any meal really! The ambience was very relaxed and the interior was spacious, as well as very cute and pretty! The service was great! Our server was very kind and helpful. Surprised by the glowing reviews. I had the three-cheese quiche and the filling was actually very delicious but it had a limp and non-substantial crust. My husband thought the breakfast casserole was adequate but nothing special and we were both surprised that such a popular breakfast place would serve microwave bacon. Our lattes were fairly good and we have stopped by since then to get lattes to-go. I will say that I got to-go desserts one time when we had a guest and our visiting relative loved her slice of pie. We probably wouldn't come back anytime soon for breakfast but might get dessert and coffee. read more

Merridee's has an amazing breakfast burrito. The bacon is crunchy and the eggs and cheese are always cooked right. Merridee's is a must if you visit Franklin. I have been going to Merridees regularly for as long as I can remember... I think at least 25 years--I went to preschool next door to merridees and have been a loyal customer ever since :). Most of the items for sale are outstanding. I think I've tried early all of the many different baked goods, and my family gets our thanksgiving pies at merridees every year. Merridees breakfast is one of my favorite meals of all time, and is a Saturday tradition for my father and me. I used to think that merridees had the best biscuit in the entire country--even better than loveless cafe. However that has recently changed. The biscuits are now half the size and lack the unique fluffy and creamy texture the once had. There is nothing remarkable about the biscuits I recently had at merridees... they almost tasted like pillsbury Please please bring back the old recipe. I understand that supplies are more expensive with inflation, but I urge you to stick to the original quality and size and just raise the prices. I am rarely disappointed with my merridees orders, but I feel super strongly about this change and am hoping this review might encourage a review of Merridee's new biscuit recipe. read more

First y'all (yes, with the relocation to Tennessee, I have picked up the lingo) need to understand that this is the type of establishment where you order your food before you get to the table and they bring it to you with plastic silverware. That being said this place has amazing food! My wife Debbie ordered the cinnamon swirl French toast but was a little leery because she thought it would be too sweet. But she has to say that it was amazing! Not too sweet and had an extra cinnamony flavor! And it was not mushy inside. She said it was excellent! I had the Bennett's scramble and it was extremely good. The hash brown casserole was extremely flavorful and a little rich but y'all need to understand we're in the south! We both said that this is one of our "now"favorite breakfast places. But more to explore! We will definitely be back! On our next visit we are going to try some of the pastries... Located in an old historical building that is full of eclectic charm. You order at the counter and find your own table in your choice of two separate rooms. The L shaped glass display case was chocked full of all kinds of amazing baked creations from cinnamon rolls to scones and pastries to muffins & breads. It was so hard to decide, so the three of us chose several to share. We also each ordered a latte. Everything we tried was delicious! The place was packed and there was a steady stream of people coming & going. We visited with several of the diners and found out that most of the people were locals who consider this place a town treasure, and I must say - that I totally agree with them! read more
