Do not trust them. Do not. I'm sad to post this review. However, in the midst of this mess, I feel others should know before you go through what we are dealing with. Tonight I ordered Meiwah by delivery through Door Dash. I ordered dinner for myself and my two--now very hungr-- teenagers. I placed the order. They charged me--about $110. I got a confirmation. The system said my order was being prepared and offered a delivery time 45 minutes later. I then got a notice that my order had been prepared and was set for delivery. It said the order would be at my door in 18 minutes. It all seemed good. Out of the blue, just as I expected the food to arrive, I get a text that my order has been cancelled. No explanation. Nothing. Just, it's cancelled. You're not getting your order. I called Door Dash--they blame the restaurant. They said the restaurant just cancelled it. Door Dash says Meiwah says it is closed. That's . . . Brave Sierra (BS). The website says it is open. The phone works. Why it got cancelled, I have no idea. All I can say is if you actually want to order Chinese food and have it delivered, then don't order from Meiwah. read more

I needed to organize a lunch for a small group of co-workers. Due to Yelp & one of my SVP's who orders from Meiwah 2-3 times a week, I decided to give Meiwah's a try. The website is colorful with a slew of selections to order from for both lunch & dinner. The lady on the phone talked almost as quick as I do, so once we were able to establish a flow of a dialogue, the ordering began: 2 Hunan Chicken 1 Sesame Chicken with brown rice 2 Shrimp Fried Rice, one extra spicy 1 General Tso's Tofu, extra crispy The delivery man arrived pretty fast & didn't mind waiting while I checked the orders. Glad to see they are generous with the condiments as we had plenty of plastic ware, chopsticks & napkins. Feedback for the most part; "Food was fresh, tasty & extremely reasonable for the pockets". & for my General Tso Tofu it was good yet like to see more broccoli oppose to one piece. A great place for Chinese American next to Friendship Heights. They use the good spices and the meats are always tender. What is their secret? Carryout is fast - even for large orders - and they use those better-designed tubs that keep your food better. I used to eat here back in the early 2000s. I moved to the midwest, and have not been able to get their crispy shredded beef out of my mind. We recently took a trip back to DC and found they had moved locations. The new location is beautiful. Lots of space to host an event. The staff were very attentive and kind. The host showed us all around the restaurant and made us feel like family from the moment we stepped inside. The crispy shredded beef was as good as I remembered. My kids loved the shrimp fried rice so much that we had to order another helping since their dad was stealing bites. Overall we had a wonderful evening. 10 out of 10! read more

The food is decent, but not as great as I expected. We ordered delivery through a third-party app from Meiwah and the food was not what I was hoping it would be.. I think my main issue was that the noodles were dry and my beef dish was very, very sweet. Way too sweet, to the point where I couldn't even eat it. Between the two of us, we ordered the following: -Beef Chow Mein (standard and decent) -Hot and Sour Soup (this was probably my favorite part of the meal, though it was a bit bland compared to other hot and sour soup I've had elsewhere) -Spring Rolls (pretty standard veggie spring rolls) -Shredded Beef in Garlic Sauce (this was WAY TOO SWEET. I wanted garlic sauce, not sweet sauce! I was so disappointed that I couldn't have more than a few bites of this before feeling disgusted) -White Rice (standard) I really was not impressed. For a place that looks like this--expensive real estate, big dinning room--I didn't expect Mei Wah to be that good. A look at the menu, which includes both sushi and "Atkins friendly options" (welcome to 2004!) in addition to a mix of Chinese food, didn't make me feel better. But, to my surprise...the food was pretty good or at least much better than it needed to be. A spicy tofu dish was actually spicy by western standards and, while the sushi menu includes things like a "Volcano roll" the classics were fresh and good enough. I came to this place for lunch on a Saturday. The quality of the rolls is nothing special, and the rolls are a little overpriced. Their cheaper rolls are around $6-7. Most of them are 8 pieces. Presentation is nice. Rolls are cut into even-looking pieces and drizzled with sauce (if needed for the roll). The bill we had for 2 people was about $35, and included 4 rolls and a small appetizer. The wait staff is friendly enough, but aren't very knowledgeable on their menus. I asked our waitress if they had eel avocado rolls available, since they weren't on the menu, and she said yes but had no idea how much it costs and made up some numbers before walking off. The restaurant is cute, oriental decorations, but clearly not upscale. All of their tablecloths are covered in white paper, which looks a little tacky, and stains right away from the water glasses. However, not a bad place for a quick sushi lunch with a friend that doesn't need to be impressed. read more

First Meiwah experience was delivery, and I wasn't disappointed. Dumplings and Kung Pao chicken came piping hot, and the rice was moist and tender. The Kung Pao could have been a little spicier for me, but nothing that a few red pepper flakes can't fix. They deliver too, which is important, but they're also available on all the apps. This was about the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I had crispy beef (supposedly spicy), fried rice, and spring rolls. The beef was hard and tough -- it was like chewing on strips of leather. It had no taste at all. The fried rice, again, had no taste , and the rolls -- well, ditto. I had the food delivered so I couldn't ask them for a replacement, but suffice it to say I will never waste my money on this place again! You should save yours, too. I have only been to this place about 50 times :) They have the best sushi and fried rice. I try to order new things but I end up ordering the same thing each and every time. The service is very fast and the staff is also nice. I love this place, especially in the summer because they have outdoor seating and I am a sucker for patios. They also have 2 party rooms for large parties. It is definitely worth a trip for some good Chinese food. I love their Miso Soup. Their tuna crunch roll is probably the best I've had out of all the sushi places I've tried in the area. Tip: they give you a lot of food. The BBQ sparerib appetizer was amazing, flavorful, tender, definitely a must have dish. Their Mongolian Lamb and Pan fried noodles with seafood were also very good dishes that I would recommend and get again. I also ordered the combination egg foo young and they burned it. So I would try this dish again to see how I like the unburned version. What I did like was that their gravy for the pancakes wasn't overly thick and salty, other restaurants have an issue with this but not them. Stopped by Mei Wah to pick up takeaway because I was staying nearby and craving Chinese food. Overall fairly decent in terms of the amount of food you get for what you're paying. We split mixed veggies, char siu, spareribs, and egg foo yong. It was what we more or less needed after a long flight. On par with most Chinese takeout places I've been to. Solid and hits the spot when you're in a particular but not necessarily something I often seek out. Best Chinese food I've found on the East coast. Same style I loved in San Francisco. And very good, pleasant service. They take special orders. I have them add tomato to the Beef Chow Fun. For two bucks more, I get it the way I love it! Duck is also quite good. I think the three star rating average is misleading because there's another place with same name in Northwest DC and folks get them confused. Actually I think the place on Willard is spelled Mei Wah, not Meiwah like the other place. The food is okay if you go early and get it fresh. Last time i went i ordered the orange chicken and some other stuff. I picked the food up around 8:30pm. By the time i got home started eating... mid-bite i found a long piece of black hair. I was disgusted. I threw all of it away. I tried calling them around 9pm, no one answered. So i called the next day and the woman on the phone said i had to bring in the food with the hair on it so she could show it to the chef. I told her It was already in the trash and she said thats all she could do. Just a warning if you order carryout from them and have issues, save the food so you can get a refund. Been to this place many times over the years and have had a mixed review. Today, stopped by for what was intended to be a quick lunch. This place is upstairs above the Panera in Friendship Heights. Just take the elevator up right into the restaurant. Ordered the pan noodles with seafood. Got a plate of half saucey and half very crunchy noodles that were a little inconsistent. The veggies tasted good as did the scallops and shrimp, but I was hoping for the brown sauce and got the white sauce (not that the server asked). Then, after the food was pretty much gone, our server was nowhere to be found to get our checks. Finally the hostess walked by and we asked for the check. When you can flip your hot and sour soup container onto a plate and it slides out of the container and retains the shape of the container like a brown jello mold with suspended tofu, it might be time to rethink Chinese restaurant options. There is either alot of congealed fat in this soup or platelets. I can't tell which right now. I have gone to Meiwah several times, and use them as my delivery option to my house. I understand it's Americanized chinese food, but it hits the spot most of the time. The reasons why I love Meiwah are the following: 1-I live within the delivery area 2-Atkins Friendly Menu that is extensive. These are batter-free and not deep fried versions of the traditional dishes. The atkins version of the General Tso's chicken (not on menu, but made to order) is so much better than the fried version. Sauteed slices of chicken in a sweet and spicy sauce over brown rice. Yum! 3-Great noodle dishes. I am a big fan of the beef chow foon with large thin noodles. The reasons why I might dislike Meiwah: 1-In the time it took me to write this review, my friend had sliced the jello mold of soup and cut it into star shapes with a cookie cutter. 2-Sushi. Not the freshest I've had, with sloppy fall apart rice. Well, Mei Wah I guess is not know for its consistency, but at least now I found a hot and sour soup that Bill Cosby can endorse. read more

So disappointed! 1st of all, they said pick up would take an hour. I get there 10 minutes early, the food was onbthe counter and warm. Soggy egg rolls, and the rest was already at "need to microwave" temp. And then the food was surprisingly bland. Kung pao, Drunken Noodles was really bad. I know things are tough in hospitality but too many things went poorly on this pick up order... especially for a place like Meiwah. read more
