The flavors were delicious and it had just the right amount of spicy heat! The sesame chicken was delicious as well! The chicken wasn't overly fried like some places tend to do! Pretty mediocre Came here with a friend to have a dinner that was near her place. I got the Hong Kong noodles with pork and shrimp and my friend got the garlic eggplant. The food was pretty tasty and the portions were big. My biggest issue is the cleanliness of the establishment. My friend had a hair in her napkin and my plate was completely filthy when it was on the table. I pointed this out to the server and he seemed a bit annoyed. Also I found that they were very eager to collect the check before we left the table. Another place I wish I liked more. Overall the food is good but I still have a few issues. It takes 30-40 min for your PICKUP order to be ready. I'm ok with 45 min waits for delivery, that is normal. But pickup orders generally should be quicker and only take 10-15 min. Every time I'm really hungry and I don't want to cook, I can usually rely on ordering pickup and getting food quickly. Not here. The takeout portions were a little small and overpriced for what you get. The Beef Chow Foon container's diameter wasn't much bigger than a regular fork. Granted the bowl is deeper than the picture shows, but it was only the depth of a cereal bowl at best. It was good, but $15 is overpriced in my opinion. This place is just ok. The food is good, but I think there are better options in the DMV. I think I will give it another chance because I've only ever gotten takeout, and after reading some other reviews it seems like the dine-in experience is better. If I could give them 0 stars, I would! I was at this restaurant today, Sunday, 9/8, around 4:30 PM. I wanted to order some delicious Chinese food, as I had never been here before. I ordered 5 dishes: Crispy Beef, which turned out to be pork; General Tso's Chicken, which was completely raw inside, posing a serious risk of salmonella or food poisoning! Two other dishes were Lo Mein--one with beef, which was so bad my family and I couldn't eat it (I have a small child), and the other was Chicken Lo Mein, but it came without chicken and had huge canned, not fresh, mushrooms. The last dish was Chinese eggplant, which was horrible and had no taste. I wasted so much food because we were afraid to eat it. I called the restaurant, and someone answered the phone. After pretending not to understand English well, he put me on hold and left me there! So I dialed again, and he picked up, once again pretending not to understand me. He was repeating what I was saying, twisting my words. I know he understood me! The food today completely ruined my day! I spent $90 for nothing because I couldn't eat it. I want my money back, which was $85.33. It's terrible what that restaurant serves people! I saw online reviews giving them 4 stars--how did that happen? Who gave them those reviews? One of the best places for Kung Pao Chicken in the DC region. Recently ordered the lunch special version for $10.50, see pic. Portion size is decent for lunch, and no fillers like celery and carrots. Does not include a typical soup or egg roll unfortunately. Quality of the chicken is very high, similar to Han Palace on Capitol Hill. On our most recent visit, we again bought enough to enjoy our favorite leftovers for days, except for the TWO orders of ribs. They are usually very tender succulent and finger-licking. Well, not this time. They were stubby, bony, unseasoned, underdone, and tough as leather. The meat stayed on the bone. We chewed and pulled for too long to no avail. They were not even worth putting in the oven. We just threw our money and the ribs away. What happened? If they are not done, do not sell them. I ordered Meiwah as delivery. I was impressed by how quickly it arrived via Uber Eats. As for the food, there were some winners and not as much winners from our order. The Shrimp in Garlic sauce, which was on the pricier side, had a decent number of shrimp, but the sauce was basically a garlic-y, salty soup. We ended up straining the shrimp out of the dish, essentially. The Moo Shu Pork, though, had a generous helping of all the goodies, and we finished every last piece of it. The meat dumplings were ok. The filling flavor could have been a little more interesting (e.g., maybe more scallions?), but they did the trick. The roast duck was very boney - as it often is. read more

My wife and I have a place a block and a half away from Meiwah. We have to check on my elderly father, who is still by himself in nearby Potomac; he might move in eventually. We have ordered from Meiwah. We will order again. They are reliable. That is important. They also deliver. I always feel guilty and lazy, since we could easily walk over there or one of us drive and the other hops out the vehicle. But that is a nice convenience. It is great if the weather is inclement. (The speed has been acceptable the few times we have used it. They come right up to the unit.) Everything is as expected. Chinese American food is not the same as Chinese food. It is related. But it is distinct, generally generic and not regional (there are, it is said, eight culinary traditions in the Middle Kingdom, itself a term that is translated poorly; it would be better as Central Kingdom, to communicate the concept that China, like other nations, perceived itself as being what everything else radiated outward from or rotated around as the sun to the planets; that is to recognize how alarming that is, albeit no different than Athens or Rome or Constantinople would have described itself during empire). It also has been modified to a palate that prefers lower ratings on the Scoville scale. This is exemplary Chinese American fare. It is not, if you are looking for what would be difficult to find anywhere in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the more specific, spicier cuisine available to diaspora communities. That's fine. The adaptation is to the marketplace. The last order we placed was for mapo tofu, which has no meat in their preparation, which is what we would have requested were it not the default; moo shu vegetables, which has no egg, which is too bad, prompting my wife to say we should get it with a protein next time; and pan fried noodles with seafood. I ordered delivery for my family on Christmas day. When the food failed to arrive 45 minutes after it was supposed to, I tried to call the restaurant but the line was busy on multiple tries. I then drove to the restaurant only to encounter a long line of customers hoping to find their food to pick up. After waiting in line for over 45 minutes, I was told my order could not be found. I left, expecting to have to dispute the charge on my credit card. 4 and 1/2 hours after placing the order, the food was delivered unexpectedly. Of course, by then we had found other food to eat. I have no idea why this established restaurant was so ill prepared for the number of orders they received that day but they have definitely lost a customer for having the most atrocious customer service I have encountered in some time. I remember Meiwah from years ago, when it used to be a solid option for Chinese food in the area. Unfortunately, this last visit was just downright disappointing. The greeting (or lack of one) at the front door should have been our signal to leave, being waved over to a table by someone behind the bar after about five minutes of waiting. The service here is no-nonsense, best termed as 'efficient', with no opportunity to actually ask the server about the menu - they come to the table and then they're gone in an instant. Things seem to be more leisurely in the kitchen, as our spring rolls had obviously been cooked much earlier, looking rather pekid and served at room temperature - not the crisp, piping-hot classic that one expects. We would have sent them back but, as you've probably already surmised, getting anyone's attention was indeed a fool's errand. The entrées were also significantly below par, and while the servings are generous, they score well-below mall food court fare. The Shredded Beef with Hot Pepper was a greasy mess, and the hot peppers were nowhere to be found even though I ordered the dish extra spicy, with the dish barely registering on the heat scale (in either sense of the word 'heat'). My friend's Hunan chicken was better, a heaping plate of thinly sliced chicken breast in a decent sauce, but again not served particularly hot. The restaurant wasn't at all busy - just a few tables seated - so not being able to get hot dishes to the table is still puzzling to me. Oh, the brown rice I asked for? White rice instead - and yes, I just ate it, rather than try to find our server again. The visit before this one wasn't quite so bad, but it wasn't great either, so based on these last two visits, Meiwah's crossed off my list, Yelp bookmark duly deleted. With below-average food and indifferent staff, I'd suggest you take your dining dollars elsewhere. read more

I used to live across from Meiwah and have moved since, yet I keep coming back here for takeout every chance I get! Don't be fooled by the fact that they're a mom and pop place.
