Went to brunch for my 21st birthday and opted to sit outside. When me and my party of 3 sat down we were sitting there for 15 mins before anyone came up to us with a menu. Once we finally got a menu you had to wait even longer for a server to come and take our order. The whole experience was a lot of waiting around. When we finally got out complimentary bread it was very toasted. Some people may like it toasted extra crunchy with no softness but I consider that overcooked. My friend really like the yogurt parfait that came with her brunch meal and bottomless mimosas. Me and my other friend got a house salad which we loved. I do wish there was a bit more dressing but now I'm just being picky. When it came to our main course I was even more disappointed. I personally am a big fan of French toast. This French toast was very unique and underwhelming. I believe some people may like the spiced twist they add to their batter, but it was not for me. My friends got the steak and eggs and steak frites and they said it was flavorless and bland nothing special. Our waiter tried his best to sing happy birthday with lit candles but the wind was not on his side. I still really appreciate our server. Over all I was not impressed at all. You get what you pay for in this pre-fixed meal. It's not the best food, but you get seconds of the main course once you finish. Drinks and desserts were the favorites of the night. Fries were yummy as well. Service was good overall but because I ordered the vegetarian version, I really had to stress what was mine. The steak wasn't seasoned and it's thin tbh; however, the sauce did help bring flavor to the steak. I'm happy that they allow you to order different temps for the steak. Absolutely to die for! At first I was so skeptical because of the single item menu, but I cannot tell you enough good things about this restaurant. I liked this place a lot. The cut of meat they serve here is the culotte, which is the same cut as the Venezuelan punta trasera or the Brazilian picanha. It was served like how I was served in Caracas, in carefully grilled strips, keeping it true to the name - medium rare. The meat was delicious, as was the accompanying steak sauce. The price was reasonable (you get two servings - they come back the second time to serve you newly grilled strips), the fries are good, and you can substitute it for a good salad. The only thing that keeps this place from becoming a Venezuelan steakhouse are the arepitas, yucca, and guasacaca (avocado sauce) for the meats lol - but I'm not complaining. Service was also attentive. It's the closest to the real thing and I'd be back for sure. Location is easy to get to, an easy walk from the red line metro station. NOTE: There's only one menu item, and it's a prix-fixe meal. Don't expect being given a lot of choices (other than for drinks), because they only do one thing here - and it's steak. I came here with a group of friends for Sunday brunch. It wasn't too busy this morning so we didn't need a reservation or have to wait to be seated. The brunch menu has a few options to chose from, all including some form of meat but can easily be removed for any vegetarian eaters. This brunch is technically "bottomless" as each pitcher of mimosa you order along with the entree is only $1 (or $0.25 per glass.) I found this to be of very good value compared to some other bottomless places I've tried in Washington D.C. You're first started with bread and butter, and by the way this butter was delicious. I was very impressed with the entree I ordered. Firstly the quantity was large, it definitely was more than enough food for me along with all the mimosas I was having. The French toast used some really fluffy bread and was a good amount of sweetness. The sausage was also very flavorful and had a hint of sweetness as well, which paired well with the French toast. The waiter was very prompt about getting our table new mimosa pitchers so I found the service here great. We had mimosas served to us until the brunch was over at the restaurant. I came here yesterday with my husband for the first time and was very excited try this place out. I made reservations and asked to sit outdoors in the heated tent. We were seated right as we arrived and were given menus. Their menu selection is simple - you get an order of fresh bread with butter, a side salad, and steak cutlets with fries. You just choose your drink and how you like your steak cooked. I ordered a ginger ale and asked for steak to be cooked medium. While we were waiting for our steak, we were given bread with butter. The bread was delicious and crusty on the outside and really soft and fluffy on the inside. The side salad was also spot on with their dressing. Our steak arrived shortly after and did not disappoint! I usually order my steak medium-well and was a bit nervous to try the medium (don't like seeing the pink) but the steak was beyond delicious and tender. They have their own sauce that they pour over the steak and it was perfectly balanced. Before we could even finish our plates they brought out a refill of steak and fries. For dessert we ordered the chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of ice cream. The portion of the cake is really big and plenty for two people to share. The cake was very decadent and rich. Had to open one door (ick) to enter and give my name - would prefer if they brought it outside or kept doors open. Hand sanitizer was available (but kinda felt like soap, not sanitizer?!) Order/Timeliness: order was ready a few minutes ahead of schedule! Plenty of pickup times available on the app, just plan to place your order 30min or so ahead of when you want to eat. App was intuitive and contactless payment. Food: Bread- I'm obsessed with their bread. It came with our pre fixed meal order but a very small wrapping of two pieces per person. In the restaurant we always ask for more! So if you're like me, I'd recommend ordering an extra half loaf (tho not cheap, like $12 and no salted butter just a little pack.) Salad- very generous portion of salad and their yummy dressing! Add your own fresh pepper to make it like the real thing! Steak- ordered rare so we could heat it up! Was perfect. Similar portion size but more thickly cut. Fries- they did NOT skimp on the fries. Huge portion in a paper bag each. I reheated in toaster oven to crisp though they were still decently warm on arrival. Sauce- with the fix price you get one of the little dressing containers worth of sauce. (2oz?) This is a challenging review to deliver because Medium Rare is my favorite DC restaurant. I am SHOCKED to have to remove a star from the maximum number possible. On a Wednesday at 5ish, the place was empty except for a fourtop and a man at the bar. I too, chose the bar, with a tv view (albeit obstructed due to the beer dispensing shaft). I didnt mind for it was the best tv view then available. In the bar, between the two aluminum beer shafts sat a lovely bowl of whole lemons, limes and oranges, presumably for cocktail garnishes. Beside the fruitbowl were two cute little corked bottles of red wine vinegar. As always, the food was delicious and plentiful. The server (Ana) sweet and attentive, and the price still more than reasonable for steak in DC. My hot bread was served quickly and the salad eventually followed. I say 'eventually' because the time between bread and salad got my attention for, in that time gap I managed to crush two or three fruit flies that invaded my dining space (once each reliably came to rest on the beer tower). I'm not talking dozens mind you, only a handful, but my killing spree lasted my entire visit. Perhaps this is why I was only half finished with the salad when the steak arrived. Anyway this irritated me, particularly because the shop was so empty, you'd think it possible for someone to actually look at one of the few patrons and make an effort to time the delivery of the main course. After all, these guys are cranking out the same thing all day - I'm sure they dont need much lead time to cook thin sliced beef to medium rare. I had to save the other half of salad for later, and by then of course it was room temp. Thats it. The flies and the course timing. Still a wonderful place. *This is a review for a delivery order* I had a great dinner last week at home thanks to the folks at Medium Rare (and DoorDash)! They've been on my list to try, and they moved to the top when I read about how they're providing free meals to seniors staying at home because of COVID-19. The steak arrived warm and the perfect doneness. The flavor was tremendous--especially with that sauce of theirs, and every bite was tender. The French fries were also still warm (not as hot as would be ideal), and they were still crisp, despite the nearly half hour trip from Cleveland Park to my door. We also had a slice of the chocolate cake, and it was just as chocolaty and rich as I hoped; definitely 2 people per slice of cake. I filled up on the richer food and didn't get to the salads until the next day. They were still good! Very yummy dressing, and it definitely reminded me of a classic French restaurant salad dressing. One quip: The bread was only so-so and we got 3 pieces for a meal for 2 people, which was odd. I'd also strongly prefer to see it served with salted butter instead of regular. I always go to Medium Rare when I visit DC, is one of my favorite restaurants. I really like the concept, with less than $30 you get a salad, 2 servings of delicious meat, fries, and their sauce. The meat is always good (sometimes a bit too rare on their second serving but that's okay with me) and Oh my god their chocolate cake is my absolutely favorite cake, it's NINEEEE layers!!!! So chocolatey and moist and soft, and they serve it warm! I dream of this cake. We had a small inconvenience this last time we went, we made a reservation for 7 pm, and when we got there they told us they could only guarantee a table outside (it was winter so who wants to eat outside?) if not we had to wait 30 min... what's the point of making a reservation then ?
