Came here HUNGRY on a Monday evening after a heavy workout so I NEEDED that MEAT! My party of 5 was seated immediately and we proceeded to go with the AYCE option - I'm not the biggest seafood guy so we didn't go with the premium option. For the next 30 minutes we had non-stop orders of meat coming to our table where they got instantly devoured. My favorite thing there was probably the beef tongue as we kept ordering that over and over again. The only kinda lame thing is that they charge you $4 per plate of tongue as well as other items but no biggie. We still gonna order it and be fat AF. We were poppin off so hard the staff had to slow us down as there was a 20 min period where they stopped serving us. It was likely done strategically to stall and let that food settle into us. Regardless they provided some solid service and I appreciate how fast they gave us that meat in the beginning (think Luffy eating after fighting). There are scarce options for authentic Japanese yakiniku in the Bay Area, so I'm glad to finally experience at Meat Time. The quality of the meats and draft beer took me to back to when I ate the tastiest wagyu in Ginza, Tokyo. For yakiniku, it's more about tasting the quality of the meats, rather than getting full. It's all about getting a drink and enjoying the time.. it's called Meat Time after all! I do recommend Sapporo and Suntory beers on draf. They were perfectly poured. Otherwise, I would get a bottle of sake to share and enjoy the experience slowly. I did not leave full and that was perfectly ok because the wagyu tasted so good. Personally, I recommend doing a la carte over set meals or AYCE as they don't include premium wagyu cuts. I also highly recommend trying at least one of their premium wagyu cuts. They have a good assortment of cuts that I will definitely try next time. The price is pretty fair if you compare it to other locations. The portions are not large, but I would say they give a fair amount for the price. It is wagyu sourced directly from Japan after all. We ordered the following a la carte and it was around $180 : Shiodare Cucumber 1 striploin Rosu w/ Wasabi and Yuzu Kosho Skirt Harami (one of my favorite cuts and so good here) Tecchan (large intestine) Shiodare Kalbi 2 Sapporo Draft 2 Suntory Drafts Everything was delicious and hit the spot. I would order everything again, though I eventually want to try the entire menu. We wanted to try the miso chips but they were out that night. Shoutouts to Junyo who served us and gave excellent recommendations and to the manager who stopped by to check on us and say hi. The tables are spaced out, so you can enjoy the experience with your party. The floor was pretty slippery around the restaurant and bathroom, so it was kind of funny trying to keep balance. Been here multiple times and it's amazing every time. Staff and owners are very friendly. I haven't tried the full extent of the menu but their gyutan is to die for. Their specials are also very good! I don't really like signing up for restaurant memberships but the meat brings me back every time so I signed up! Came with my gf for a dinner. Easy and quick check in for our reservation and we got seated in the corner of the restaurant. The tables are really wide and they put up dividers, giving it a more private feel than traditional BBQ places. We ordered the manpuku set, extra homemade kimchi, and the wagyu handrolls. First, the kimchi was really tasty. Definitely homemade and had a good balance of sour and spiciness. The manpuku set came with the pork belly, pork cheek, yakishabu ribeye, garlic steak, wrapping lettuce, and spicy kalbi soup. I made reservations through Yelp and would highly recommend you do it in advance for a Friday night. We ordered the happy hour set, which was decent for the price. We got the jidori karaage, mini wagyu croquettes, takowasa, wagyu fried rice, yakishabu rib eye, and otoro kalbi. Honestly, the only thing that stood out to me the most that would make me go back is the wagyu fried rice. Service was good and the staff were all friendly, even as busy as it was on a Friday night. We were shown how to cook the meat on the grill, which we would've had no idea of how to cook it properly. We came here before their new AYCE option was available. This is my goto spot for bbq ayce! Hands down beats one of the best in regards to high quality of meat for all korean or japanese style bbq. Its a bit pricey but you can taste the difference in terms of the quality cuts of meat, special dipping sauces for it, unlike most places where they cut you really thin pieces of meat that shrivels and gets stuck to the grill. Service is excellent and keeps the flow of foods coming out up to speed unlike some spots in which its hard to find your waiter and sometimes have to wait for a bit till your food arrives. Only downfall is the price for bringing your kids it they dont qualify for half off. I believe 8yrs old is the maximum age limit. My daughter is 9 yrs old and I cant jusify bringing her here often to pay full price as an adult or even half off since she does not eat so much otherwise id be here more often. Ambiance is kept clean but outdated and its located in a unassuming strip mall. But for me its all about the FOOD! read more

3.5 stars. I do like the food. Decent quality meat with a good variety of options. To accompany the meats, their corn ribs, fried rice, ox tail soup, and other veggies were all up to snuff. I would say that I wish they had more vegetable options to choose from. Also of note, we went on a weekend day and a large number of menu items were unavailable/out of stock, including standard items like lettuce wrap, which was kinda bizarre. I did not find the wagyu options to be worth it, but most of the other meats we ordered were delicious. The marinated meats and those with a sauce topping were very well thought out - esp the beef tongue with a green onion sauce was one of the better Japanese bbq dishes I've had in recent time. One issue we did have was that the server did not tell us how long we should cook the meats for, which for fine for us but I'm sure new guest would appreciate some guidance in order not to waste the pricey dishes. A major reason for the low rating is the restaurant itself. First, we were seated in the corner by the window and had the sun directly in our eyes the entire meal. I could not even see if the meats were cooked. The window had no shades or curtains available. Second, one of the only two restrooms were out of order (single stall in each). The remaining restroom was horrendously unclean with a lack of ventilation. Considering how this is a relatively new restaurant, I was quite disappointed at the environment. Meat Time does serve good quality meat and overall the food was tasty, but portions are incredibly small, so expect to pay $$$ to satisfy your hunger. I'm usually fine with spending more at a restaurant if the experience makes up for the price, but unfortunately, Meat Time's experience didn't deliver. Service was slow and inattentive. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or they still didn't have their process down yet. I saw a table looking very bored for awhile without any food. Another table attempted to wave down a server for several minutes without success, so a customer got up from their seat to find a staff member. The servers didn't really cook for the tables, so I wasn't sure why they were taking so long to attend anyone. They forgot an item we ordered, even though different people asked us if we wanted to order more and we told them we already did. It seemed like nobody was accountable for our table. The inconsistency between presentation was strange to me. They obviously put in effort for presentation with the food and nice dishes, yet they give you disposable chopsticks. This may seem nitpicky, but if you're targeting higher spenders, attention to detail is crucial in my opinion. They recently had their grand opening, so I would've expected they had worked out most of their kinks during their soft opening. Never really had a chance to try Japanese bbq in the bay, but saw that Meat Time was pretty close by and decided to try it. We did the AYCE premium plan, and got to order from their basic tier as well. It was delicious! If you love the melt-in-your-mouth types, I would order the Striploin from the bonus meats, Sagari, and Harami. Other meats to try would be the Pork Cheek and Brisket. My partner and I came here during dinner time on a Friday night. I was worried we would have to wait quite a while since it was peak dinner time, but thankfully they weren't super crowded and seated us right away. For starters we got karaage. It was freshly fried when they brought it to our table and absolutely delicious with great crunchy texture on the outside, soft and hot on the inside. Since it was our first time, we went for the premium AYCE option. We ordered the angus beef tongue, otoro kalbi, scallops, harami, brisket, and their daily special which was sagari. My partner loved the scallop so much he ordered it twice. It was sashimi grade and was melt-in-your-mouth soft, super fresh. Also tasted great grilled. For meats, my favs were the harami and sagari. They were super tender and had great flavor coming off the grill. I enjoyed the bean sprouts and cucumber as sides. For dessert we got the yuzu sherbet and it was the perfect end to cleanse the palette after the meaty meal. I would def come back here to try other meats. The staff were absolutely amazing and attentive. They were always checking on us to make sure we receive what we need and place next round orders without much wait. This is the best Yakiniku place I've ever been to. We got the beef tongue, yakishabu ribeye, and the zabuton. Beef tongue was ok but I wouldn't get it again. Zabuton was marbled so beautifully and was paired with a yuzu daikon sauce. The meat was so juicy and melted in your mouth. The star of the show was the yakishabu ribeye. The server cooks this meat for you and afterwards you dip it in the golden egg yolk and sauce mixture. My server cooked it medium rare. Holy cow, this was the best piece of meat I've ever put into my mouth. It was buttery soft and delicious. The meat was so juicy and melted in my mouth. I promised my friends to come here if I passed my class so we were fully ready to go all out. However, we ended up settling for the regular plan since the premium plan wasn't enticing enough with the limited quantities and having to pay extra on top of the plan for higher quality meat. This worked out for us well, since we mostly ate the yakishabu brisket and the garlic marinated kalbi anyway. The angus beef tongue is an absolute must! The lemon and the green onion sauce that came with it saved my appetite as it plateaued trying to get my moneys worth. The service was absolutely spectacular. The waiters were very patient and understanding when we had a miscommunication. The meats did come out a bit slow, which we felt wasted our time limit. To add on to this, we could only order one meat per round with an exception for the first and last rounds, which we could order 6 and 3 respectively. Yooo is everyone coming here with the expectation of spending $100-200/ person minimum? Because no way you'll be able to get full off of 50/person(which is the assumption with their set of 2 option). If you skip the A5 options, you could potentially get away with $70-80/person. Ordered: Lotus Chips Chicken Kaarage A5 Wagyu Sirloin Kalbi (Short Ribs ) Harami (Skirt Steak) Pork Belly Quality is 100% there for most of their meats, especially the ones with an asterisk to denote their recommendations, absolutely no complaints for the A5 Wagyu Sirloin, the Kalbi or Harami. They were tender and juicy as needed. Pork Belly, kinda bland and nothing to write home about, but hey, they have a sauce+salt on the side. Wagyu Fried Rice - Absolutely tastes like a regular fried rice, the amount of the serving honestly, is one person. If you have to share, my condolences, especially when you'll find more mushroom pieces than the tiny pea-sized cut wagyu pieces. Lotus Chips - Yes, good but not mind-blowing. Feels like this would be provided as a free appetizer to eat at other places. Karaage - I admit, very nicely done in terms of taste and texture, but comes with like ~6 pieces. Bummer. They also provide a piece of Wagyu Fat which you're told to use it to basically butter up the grill. Cool idea I guess. Kind of feel like this place wants to try and be the next Chungdam... but without the outstanding service/vibe that Chungdam/other high end Korean BBQ has. Also... for all those reviews comparing it to Gyu-Kaku... the quality of Gyu Kaku is probably 80% of what is here, but at 1/4 of the price (I'm honestly waiting to see what final prices they plan on settling on). P.S: Yes, a reservation is recommended as they intentionally do not seat all tables during their soft opening and the average wait times will be ~15-40 minutes based on when my party was seated being first on the waitlist, versus someone at number 5. (I think this was to provide better/streamlined service as well as not to overwhelm the kitchen...? But if I'm not mistaken, their "top notch" service is for the "IG Models" or other similar influencers considering I saw the head host only actively contributing/speaking with some of the tables randomly. We have gone for yakiniku many times and also for some of his special omakase nights and everything is always delicious. I love coming here for yakiniku since they have great quality meat. I usually get alacarte, but was pleased to find out they offer AYCE now! I do think the basic one doesn't have too much beef, but the premium price is not bad to also get some beef. They come by often to check on you to see if you want to order more when you're almost done with your current serving which is nice especially since there's a 90 min limit for AYCE. I definitely prefer coming here over Gyukaku (also because it's closer for me). The parking lot can get pretty full unless you come later, so may be difficult to find parking but there's extra parking in the back. read more

AYCE place. There are 2 grades you can choose from. We chose the cheapest. There is a "special" plate but was "sold out" when we wanted to order. The meat here is good quality. It's thick and juicy. The service is excellent. They change our grill constantly. Service was fast as well. There weren't a lot of people when we went on a Saturday evening even though Yelp didn't let us reserve a table beforehand. I would say, give this place a try!!
