All I can say is wow about meat and bread. The sandwich was fabulous. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. I could have been happy with just the bread but add the pork, the crispy pork skin and all the other ingredients and you have a truly amazing finger licking good sandwich. They offer a traditional yellow mustard and then their own homemade mustard on the side. What a combination. Do not miss out on this amazing place!!! BOMB sandwich! One of the best sandwiches I have had in ATX. My wife, and I were looking for a good sandwich spot in ATX, and I think we may have found it. Stopped by on the way into Austin for a very late but easy lunch. We ordered their 2 most popular sandwiches since they were out of the Italian panino. We got the porchetta and the meatball sandwich. Both were very good! Hard for me to say which one I liked better, but both were full of flavor! The bread was also a great carrier for the fillings as well. Just WOW! I saw this establishment recommended on Instagram by 512Bites, and had to try it! I went with the recommendations and ordered the Porchetta Sandwich & the Tomato soup. Both were amazing!!! I can't wait to go back & try some other items! My only complaint is parking. There is ZERO parking on the cul-de-sac where it's located. I ended up calling in my order, then double parking with my blinkers on to run in & get it. There are some lots across the street, and some street parking further up. Now I understand why this place has 5 stars! The owners and employees are all so friendly. I've had porchetta before at Eataly in Chicago, but this place is so much better. The bread it comes on is all the things a bread bread should be - warm, nice crust, and soft on the inside. The porchetta is juicy, flavorful, and I love when you bite into the crispy skin pieces. We also had the meatball sandwich and for someone who doesn't care for meatballs, it was delicious! Has a nice little kick to it (not spicy). Both sandwiches came with 2 sauces, mustard and sambal I think and both delicious! They do have some seating inside and in front. Had a really great experience the other day. My wife had chosen this place because we both love Porchetta. We're both from San Francisco, California and have had great food experiences throughout the city. One working near the Embarcadero It brings great fortune during lunchtime. Anyways I digress, what brought us to Meat & Bread was their location and their great reviews. Upon entering, you're greeted by friendly smiles, a nearby cooler and decent seating. They have indoor and outdoor table settings, which are great. Greeted by the owner behind the counter, who served us our porchetta sandwiches. He's got a great sense of humor and is very friendly. He told us about their processes how they cook it, a few things about their menu, items, etc. etc. He pointed out the ovens through the window where they cook these amazing rolls of meat. You have to try them. A plate of pork Cracklin's resting under the heat lamps. Those are the amazing little treats are for the inside the sandwich. I won't go into it but "they are toe curling". It felt like a gift coming here for lunch. We were tossed a freebie, which was a spicy meatball sandwich. That, too, was quite incredible. Full of flavor. I don't need to say more than we will be coming back as Ernie has set the standard. If you've ever been to Italy and miss eating Porchetta, we've been told that you can order one of these ahead of time for dinner parties, or patio/lawn parties. Talk about a top tier sandwich... In honor of our interns' last day in the office, we all showed up around 12:15 for a celebratory lunch. As soon as we walked in we were enthusiastically greeted by the owner Ernie (he's a cool guy- we appreciate Ernie, say hi to him) and his awesome, attentive staff. Everyone at the office is still talking about how good everything was. I had the porchetta with a side of the truffle parmesan dip and I was at a loss for words. I love a good sando and have actively been on a mission to find my favorites in Austin. This easily takes the cake as most memorable. The bread was warm and crisp, the pork itself was juicy and perfectly seasoned, the salsa verde provided the perfect amount of acidity to counteract the fattiness of the pork, and the cracklings on top added the perfect bit of texture and crunch. Overall, it was every bit balanced and thought out. This sandwich easily holds its own, but the sauces that come alongside the sandwich and the additional dips you can order really amp up the flavor and allow you to make it "your own" (I recommend the truffle parmesan!!) I was so excited to hear Meat & Bread had opened up in Austin. I first had their porchetta sandwich in Vancouver 11 years ago and loved it. We went around 12:450pm on Saturday and the place wasn't too crowded. No wait to order and we got our food within 5 minutes. The quality of the sandwich is top-notch. The bread was fresh out of the oven and perfectly baked with a crispy crust but soft inside and the meat was tender and juicy. That said, this sandwich wasn't as great as I remembered; something felt missing because the porchetta sandwich I had in Vancouver was much more flavorful and fragrant. I think this location needs to add a bit more salt to the salsa verde or put in more fat to balance out the lean meat. But otherwise, great sandwich place.
