McNamara is not the original owners. I had work done before on my fireplace.. was told I had a 10 yr warranty called them to fix the problem, they claimed they would come back and check the issue . One person came and said can't see the problem. I called the company and complained to the owner, he mentioned he would come to check it out but never did. Had to go elsewhere. read more

I have been waiting months for them to come service a pellet stove that they installed three years ago that is not working. My original appointment was cancelled and never rescheduled so I had to wait months for a new appointment. They finally came out, charged me $500 and my stove is still not working. I have no idea when they will be back out, or when the parts will be ordered. Taylor, the girl that answers the phones should be trained on how to handle customer complaints. I've been a customer of McNamara for over 18 years. Bobby has installed a hot water heater and has serviced my central air conditioner. In 2022 he informed me the AC system was on its last leg. I recently turned it on and it was no longer functioning. Naturally I called McNamara. When Shane came out he informed me that the business had switched owners but would still give the quality service and affordable prices. If I can give "0" star I will do so. If you want to find a reliable, capable trustable company that is NOT McNamara. Please see my experience with this company After I changed furnace filter before Thanksgiving holiday it stared to make noise, McNamara technicians checked and told me "blower motor out of balance". He needs to get parts to repair it, the cost is $2,200. For the visit it charges service $109, flat fee $60 plus NY tax, all this payment can be credit to the future cost to repair/replace the furnace. I paid the bill but does not feel right. I don't see any problem with motor but what I know. I asked my friend about my furnace issue, he recommended me to get a second opinion. Another company technician came he couldn't tell what's wrong, he saw a piece of paper next to the furnace. I told him what I did, he open the base board got down and took out a piece of paper it is an "indoor motor airflow selection chart', which was attached to the base board. When I replaced the filter, it was loosed, when heat is running it creates rattling noise. This visit costed me another hundreds bulk but at least the new company tech fix my furnace. I complained with McNamara told them they did not do their job. the owner's wife Debbie told me the "our technician told me your motor out of balance, your furnace will not get through this winter". Well, we will see, it is one month after McNamara's visit, my furnace is still working properly. McNamara could not do correct trouble shooting to fix my furnace and does not admit their mistake. It is fine to make mistake, we human make mistake. It is bad when people make mistake does not admit and correct it. read more

They charged me over $400 to replace a $24 switch, and then refused to return to repair it when it did not work properly without charging me another $109 service call. They further insisted that they could not guarantee their work unless I purchased a maintenance tune-up for an additional $179. Do yourself a favor, and take your business elsewhere. read more

Called for service on my air conditioning system as it was very uncomfortable in my home Service was scheduled for the very next day. The technician recognized the problem quickly and efficiently and remediated the problem. In less than an hour the system was providing that much desired very cool air. Additionally I felt that the company staff went out of their way to help me within 24 hours. They are extremely polite and respectful. They listen. The place has pretty good service folks who do good work! The office just wants to milk your money as much as they can! My fireplace stopped working. The first service guy came and got it working but did not wait to check if the blower was working. I was quoted $129 + whatever cost it takes to fix it over the phone. The guy told me $129 was pretty much just to show up and charged me $260 for around 40 mins of work. I was ok with that and just considered that they just didnt do a great job of explaining the costs over the phone. However when I switched it on in the night, the blower had an issue. It went on an off every 10 seconds. I called up and they said no worries, we will send someone and we will waive the $129 fee. The service guy who came (Roy) was awesome. He said the issue should mostly be a small part which he had brought along. He replaced it in like 20 mins and we switched on the heater and the blower came along fine. He called up the front office, spoke with them and quote a price of another $192!!! ($30-40 part cost) I spoke with the owner and she told me it is a flat rate for fixing that part and we are waiving the $129 service fee. A flat rate means a flat rate - it includes everything and that is what I should have got a discount as this was a follow up service! If the first guy had waited for the blower and fixed it then, there is no way they would have got another $200 from me. They could have charged me a fair price and had a customer for ever! Instead they wanted to make that extra $100 of me and lost a customer! read more

When we approached Roy at McNamara Heating & Cooling about installing a gas fireplace, we posed him with quite a challenge. In the 1930's, the owners of our 1854 vintage house had added a fireplace. What they didn't know was that the small chimney, designed for a coal stove, was too narrow to carry away the smoke from a wood-burning fireplace. They probably filled the entire house with smoke and then, lesson learned, bricked up the fireplace. So nobody could tell what we might find behind the bricks. Would there be a connection to the old chimney? If there was, would we be able to use it? Roy did an amazing job of coordinating a team with a mason (Rich Kloeren Construction) and plumber (Joe Vitiello of Vitmar Plumbing & Heating) to open up the bricks, install the gas line, overcome all of the old-house obstacles and make everything work. The installation of the fireplace was smooth and quick, they cleaned everything up to the last speck of dust, and the new fireplace has turned a room that had been too cold to use in the winter into a warm, welcoming place to read, visit with friends or just snooze by the fire -- something our cats especially appreciate. I can't recommend McNamara highly enough, especially if your house poses challenges like ours did. [For some reason, Yelp thinks I live in San Francisco. I don't. Amazing customer service and always a job well done! I can't say enough about them. Marshall and Roy are great. Every time I call they have given me tips on what the problem could be before they come out. This avoided an unnecessary visit and saved me $ last year. And they always send someone out as soon as possible when needed (usually with little notice when something went wrong) Eventually I needed a whole new system (it was old and was here when I moved in) and they were able to fit me in quickly after a possible 3 week wait. I trusted them and was willing to wait and when a spot opened up...it was mine and they numbed is up. They arrived early and were in and out in 3 hrs to replace outside and inside unit. (2 hrs quicker than quoted). Professional, friendly, and didn't leave even a spec of dust for me to clean up. Amazing! Price was fair and not a penny more than quoted. BUYER BEWARE! This is my first time writing a review but felt it an obligation to fellow consumers. Service technician came to repair fireplace. Tech assured me he would get it working again. He installed part and unit began working intermittently. After paying almost $450 he mentioned that the unit may need another part costing about $60. After he left that evening, the unit stopped working. The following week, I was advised the new part and installation would be an additional cost of almost $400. They, also, insisted on an additional $100 deposit up front to order the part! I requested a breakdown of charges with estimate...which they refused to give me. Amazing customer service! Absolutely amazing customer service, the owner (Bob McNamara), reacted immediately to a possible carbon monoxide leak; he reassured me that all was is in working order, zero reading of carbon monoxide, even triple checked. Saved me the cost of a new heater. This company is 100% for the customer and not for the dollar. I have been using another company for furnace/air yearly maintenance, was told by such company that we had a carbon monoxide leak and needed a new furnace as soon as possible. Being unnerved, I called the company with the best reviews, "McNamara," spoke with a tech for an appointment, tech said they were booked, the owner overheard the conversation and said I will go to the house right now to check the furnace and the carbon monoxide reading. He was here in minutes. Checked all the rooms that the furnace was servicing as well as area around furnace. He was extremely thorough, polite, and understanding. There are very few companies that the owner would come out at the drop of a hat to protect a potentially new client. Very much appreciated. We have used McNamara for the past few years on a recommendation from my parents who have had McNamara install their heating and cooling systems as well as their electric fireplace. They always rave about McNamara's work and trust his service. This past fall, we had them service our heating system. During the service they alerted us to a part that was nearing failure. Instead of trying to up sell us, Bob gave us a few options (including explaining how I could replace it myself). We decided to have the part replaced by McNamara to prevent a heating failure during the winter (and save some money on another service call). When they replaced the part and they gave me the old part it was obvious it was on borrowed time and needed to be replaced or it would have failed this winter. We recently decided to have McNamara install a central air system in our home. We were a little anxious about having work performed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bob took the time to explain what measures and precautions they were taking to keep everyone safe during installations. We decided to have the install completed and we are so glad we did! Bob himself came and worked along side his crew. They worked hard to complete the installation in only 1 day. I cannot say enough about this family business. They are thorough, CLEAN, competent and transparent. Every person that they have working there is knowledgeable and careful. They take their time, explain everything and do a really great job. No mess and no hassle. All services were done beyond expectation. There were even a few unforeseen items that came up during installation and there was no additional charge. This company is fabulous. I am a consumate consumer. Near my area the fireplace companies are awful - might be great to buy something, but if it doesn't work right, you are on your own. This company sent in a Class 1 repair person who was able to fix something that 2 other repair people could not - and he made it look simple. That was 2 years ago. I just had him back for annual service and he is a gem. The first few years, constant problems. Since the day that McNamara got involved - NOT ONE PROBLEM. 2 years now working flawlessly. Their workers are extremely knowledgable. Dealing with the company (I had to order a small part and had it picked up) was wonderful. Always on time and they keep appointments. I only wish they did more than they do. I pride myself on finding the right peoplecompanies, and once again, I have. I only rant like this when it's near perfection.
