I had an emergency issue regarding my gas furnace and chimney and of the several companies that came to examine the problem (some of which are well known and highly rated) Pete was the only one to correctly diagnose the issue. In doing so, he saved me much money at his own expense and (more importantly) helped keep my family warm. Now, whether that is an indictment on the honesty of others or their lack of experience compared to that of Pete, I daren't speculate. Moreover, he gave me tips about my fireplace. He was prompt, affable, and patient enough to answer my myriad questions. When i have further work to do on my chimney his will be the first number I dial.

Working with Ed & Company was stress free and a pleasure. They gave me recommendations of other contractors that were great to work with, and then returned to complete the installation with a granite surround. Frank at Light My Fire was helpful and knowledgeable in picking out the log set that was needed to fill that "black hole" in the living room. He scheduled an appointment in December and it was exactly the date as promised. John, the owner and installer is an artist. He arrived for a site visit shortly and arrived on the date promised for the preliminary install (gas line etc). Inspectors arrived to check out work and were completely satisfied. They worked cleanly, answered all of my questions, and the final result is absolutely beautiful. The remote control isn't working perfectly at the moment, but I was told it will be replaced soon, which I appreciate. The fireplace delivered was different from the one originally quoted, yet I was charged more than the quoted price. This raises serious concerns about their business practices and lack of transparency. What made the experience even worse was the irresponsible and unprofessional behavior of the people handling the project. Despite repeated requests and multiple emails seeking an explanation and resolution, they failed to take meaningful action or address my concerns. As a customer, I expect honesty, accountability, clear communication, and professional service. Unfortunately, none of these expectations were met. Dealing with this company has been an unnecessarily painful and time-consuming experience. It is astonishing that a business can treat its customers this way and still expect to maintain a good reputation. I would strongly caution prospective customers to carefully verify the exact product, specifications, and total price in writing before proceeding. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this company.

My fireplace was installed during the winter which is their busiest time so I understand they have many jobs in a short period of time and only one crew which can maybe work on two jobs at once. However, a job that should have taken only taken 1 to 2 months tops ended up taking about 6 months. I watched an entire house up the street being built from scratch and completed before my fireplace was finished. From the start, building permits were rejected which took John a month to straighten out. I found someone else to run my gas line because John wanted way too much money and wanted to run ugly black pipe along the entire back of my house because it was easier for him to run pipe than to dig and bury the gas line underground which is the correct way do it. I am very happy I made the decision to have a plumber bury the gas line. It looks 100% better than it would have. Then I had to deal with a couple of failed building inspections which took many unreturned phone calls to finally get corrected over long time periods. Every small step of the project felt like I had to force them to come back. I even took a day off work which was wasted since late in the day, after hours of waiting, I got a call from John saying he can't make it. I had a broken part which was installed and covered up by the installer. I was told for months there was nothing they could do about it. I finally called the manufacturer myself who told me it was no problem and they sent a replacement. As one of the final parts of the project a cracked piece of the surround was replaced and John replaced it with a piece that was slightly short in and had a repaired crack in it. He tried to pretend he didn't notice the crack which I (who am inexperienced with fireplace surrounds) noticed with no problem. I lived with the repaired piece because it looked good enough and I didn't want to spend the next three weeks calling and calling and calling to attempt to get it replaced again. The reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is that the final product looks very good. It was a very stressful process and killed the excitement of adding a fireplace to my home. I am a very conscientious person, take pride in my work and am good for my word. A&J Fireplace does not share these principles. I learned some valuable lessons from this experience. Never pay too much upfront and always set a completion date in the contract. I do not recommend using A&J Fireplaces. It will add a lot of stress to your life and you'd be better off finding another company. Unfortunately, the fireplace stores in my area seem to operate similarly to one another. It would be better to find a general contractor who has experience with fireplace installations.
