I think Pete and his crew are very knowledgeable and expert about their chosen field and do quality work. But my experience is what he really excels at is selling his service, talking a good game, and insuring that he gets the most money possible for his service...and I suppose that is all part of doing business. He will make you feel that he is the only one that can solve your problem adequately and that it is best to act fast to insure receiving the 'specially ordered parts' in a timely fashion. But the work he did for our house was extremely pricey and unfortunately, due to a difficult family situation, we were just not in a position to get other quotes and estimates. That was a big mistake. I think we paid quite a bit more than the going rate for the work they did. I would absolutely not use them again for any roofing or chimney service. Today I was in my Grandmother's home and around 9am I hear a lovely man singing "lying sack of sh*t...lying sack of sh*t..". Disturbed I go see what is going on to find out my Gran called for this company's services and unfortunately had to cancel. Apparently Pete or whoever the bald man was that greeted her at the door did not get this message. She later showed me the text proof of cancellation and a response back from someone on the other end agreeing to this. The "song" I heard was him on his way out letting out his frustration. I scheduled an estimate with Pete to look at my chimney. I wait on roof as Pete climbs fire escape to meet me to look at the job and give me an idea what he thinks is going on so he can work up a price. He climbs up fire escape pokes his head up, sees that I have solar on the roof and says "nope not interested- I don't work on flat roofs!". Pete never even gets on roof or looks at chimney to see what the job is and to see there is plenty of clearance around chimney to work on it despite the solar. I don't know what easier situation there is for a chimney guy to work than on a flat roof- this BS response should indicate this is not an honest person. WTF Pete? Couldn't you even walk the 15 feet to look at the chimney? I took time off work and got my ass on the roof. read more

You can tell from the first time you speak to Pete that he is a stand-up, straightforward individual and that is how he runs his business. He and his crew were always on time, responsive and helpful from the receptionist to the guys on the roof. I tried for a few weeks to find some chimney company for a simple task which was to replace one of my chimney caps which broke and fell down. Most of the companies were not interested or tried to arrange some extra work, since it wasn't worth to come only for that. I almost gave up, then I called Pete. He told me that he'll pass by for an estimate within two days (thanksgiving morning). I didn't believe it, but he did it. At the same day I approved the quote. However my experience was a low quality rush job where they tried to upsell me for seemingly unneeded repairs/services. Additionally the company is not a member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) a member agency that ensures proper knowledge, training and standards for the industry. Regarding your response to my review: I appreciate the follow-up and that does show that you are concerned about your company's reputation. If you don't want to read the whole review (it's on the long side), here's the summary: Pete's Chimney and More is a business that will exceed all of your expectations with work that is first rate and an owner who goes out of his way to make the experience so user friendly that for once you won't dread the process of needing to have work done on your house. And now for the details... We needed to have the chimney on our house repaired. I called Pete's Chimney, as I had water leaking into the attic from a crumbling chimney. Even though the answering machine said that they were on vacation, within minutes I received a return call from Pete and had set up an appointment for the day after New Years. When I picked up my mail on 12/31, however, the estimate was already in my mailbox with a clear itemization of the work that needed to be done. The estimate was more than fair, and given his willingness to come out on a holiday, I knew immediately we were moving ahead. Pete runs his business as if he is taking care of his family, as you feel as if your problem is his problem. He was able to make an appointment for the end of the week, keeping in touch with me to let me know when he was coming, what to expect, etc. The work is actually for my mother's house, and as she is elderly and disabled, he went out of his way to make sure she would be comfortable with all of the plans. Ultimately, he was able to move the work up a day taking advantage of the nice weather, calling me to make sure that this would work for my mother. When his team arrived, they immediately got down to work not even stopping to come inside to warm up, and it was a very brisk day! (They even passed on pizza in order to keep working!) The work done was top-rate, with the chimney angles crisp and clean. The work area was tidy the entire time and was left immaculate looking better than when they had started. (I'm not making this up; they had a leaf blower to make sure nothing was left amiss!) When the team left, I had a question for Pete and within minutes of texting him, he replied. I called him, and he went through his answer in detail explaining how the chimney had been reconstructed. While his answer far exceeded my question, I so appreciated his willingness to spend the time making sure I was completely satisfied with all parts of the job. In the end, the job was even more thorough than I had expected, and I now look forward to my new chimney's long life! So often, and rightfully so, people write reviews when things don't go well. I'm not sure that we spend as much time writing reviews when things go well. Everything started out great but then went down hill extremely fast. Service and cost I started with was good until I had to have the roofers come back to fix the same job they worked prior because it was not done right and they made errors. The roof then started to leak again and the roofers came back to fix it once more but this time I had to pay more. The problem still was not fixed and all of a sudden the polite service I got in the beginning was out the window and was told to find someone else to do the job. That's "good" service for you........... I got other professional roofing recommendations from around the area and all found that the job that was done was not industry standard, poor workmanship, and wrong. In total I wasted a few grand to have another roofing company come in and fix the issue correctly and also by industry standards. I learned my lesson here. Generally I don't write reviews, but after meeting Pete and then hiring him to do chimney work and replace my old roof, I thought it warranted taking the time to express what a good experience it was. I was a little surprised, yet impressed when it was Pete himself who answered the phone when I called to schedule a consultation and estimate. Very often I've found that I have to leave a message and then wait until someone calls me back. Pete arrived at my house within a few hours of my initial contact with him. While on the roof he took a phone video of the roof and any damage or areas of concern that he observed and narrated what it was he was seeing. While on the roof, he sent me a text message of his narrated video so that I could see exactly what needed attention. When he came off the roof, he and I spoke about what he'd seen on the roof, he listened and addressed all of my questions. I found him easy to communicate with. By the end of the day, Pete promptly emailed me an estimate of the job. I agreed to hire him. Pete sent a crew over on Monday 8/17/16 to do the work to the chimney and on the next day, work began on the roof. Pete said that his crew would arrive by 7:30 AM, not only did they arrive by that time, but the five man crew were already on the roof and had begun to work by 7:30. The crew seemed to work non-stop through out the day. They managed to complete the entire job in a single work day. They wrapped everything up at about 6:30 PM. I was very happy that the roof was completed in just one day (the house is a split ranch). There were still two minor things that needed to be addressed: first was the placing of the chimney cap and the second was installing zinc stripping. Pete himself showed up each of the following two days and took care of these remaining issues. Overall it was a very good experience dealing with Pete and his crew. I found Pete to be very responsive to my calls and questions and I was impressed that he completed the two minor remaining issues promptly and didn't abandon the job prior to it being fully completed. I didn't have to continuously chase him with phone calls to come back to my house to finish the job. Kudos to Pete and his crew of excellent workers. We contacted Pete's Chimney to have our chimney cleaned at the end of last summer. When the crew who came went on to our roof they found that out chimney was in very bad condition. He took a video of all the issues for us to see for verification purposes. They came back and basically rebuilt our chimney, put new flashing down as there was none installed when the chimney was built and replaced some shingle on the roof due to water damage from the non-existent flashing. We were not happy with the issues as we had only recently bought the house and this was something the inspector should have picked up on.
