We came in for dinner while staying the night at the McMenamins Gearhart Hotel. I made a reservation about a week in advance as the Oregon Coast gets very busy during the summer months. They have a private parking lot available, plus street parking for overflow. We were greeted and seated upon entering the restaurant. The decor is typical for McMenamins locations...lots of wood, old antique light fixtures, etc. It's a warm and cozy vibe. The menu is similar to their other restaurants with a few seafood items added. We decided on the steak and mushroom bites, jojos, a cup of chowder, and the fish and chips. We enjoyed everything except the clam chowder. It was super runny and had large chunks of white onions. The onions weren't cooked long enough, in my opinion. They were still crunchy and the flavor overpowered the soup. I didn't get any seafood flavor from the clams. I definitely wouldn't order that again. I was glad I only ordered a cup. For dessert we ordered the peanut butter pie. My oh my, was it delicious! It was the star of our entire meal. I hope they never remove this from their menu! Overall a nice dinner with friendly and helpful staff. We would recommend when staying at the hotel. read more

Service was absolute trash. I've gotten better service at McDonald's and McDonald's is garbage. Super disappointed, everyone was bothered we were even there but not bothered enough to charge us a pretty penny for their lack luster experience. Here are the facts Three of us. Ate here Saturday August 1 in the evening for dinner. What we had: Appetizer cheeseburger trio sliders on Hawaiian rolls. Ale fish and chips. Fried cod fish sandwich. Tropical storm pizza. Asked for tots with sandwich. Got very cold and bland fries. Did not eat fries that came with sandwich or Ale fish and chips. On to the "fish". Rot gut fish. I really think it was Gordon Fisherman or something dirt cheap off brand they picked up at Sam's or Walmart. Disgusting. Sliders cold and not good. The pizza was ok - 5 out of 10. Had 2 beers on tap. So bad I couldn't finish it and friend couldn't finish his. The Sand Trap. Strategically located across from a nice resort in Gearhart awaiting tired suckers to come in hungry and thirsty and then give them the most disgusting dining experience of their lifetime. Bratwurst - like a large Oscar Meyer hot dog Mash potatoes - bland like made from instant potato flakes and just water Gravy - no flavor whatsoever, just salty, like made with cheap instant gravy mix McMenamins restaurants are not known for good food. We visited McMenamins in Seaside yesterday after reading some recent reviews that didn't quite line up with our past experiences. Having been to several McMenamins locations before, we were skeptical of recent reviews --and sure enough, this one delivered the same solid quality we've come to expect. The menu felt a bit more expanded than some other locations, possibly due to it being in a tourist area, which was a nice bonus. The service stood out right away--the host and our server were both genuinely friendly and welcoming. Food and drinks were exactly what we were hoping for. I had the bacon cheeseburger with tots and a side salad, my daughter ordered the chicken fingers and fries, and my wife had the firecracker shrimp sandwich. Everything came out on time and tasted great. The ranch even tasted house-made, which was a nice touch. The beer and cocktail selection were both strong, as expected. One of the best parts is the setting--right on a golf course with great views and plenty of parking, and just minutes from the coast. It's a perfect spot if you're in Seaside and want something a little quieter than the main strip. Overall, we had a great experience. I'd definitely recommend giving this location a shot and not putting too much weight on the recent negative reviews--they didn't reflect our visit at all. We'll absolutely be back!! read more

Embarrassed . Hurt . Humiliated . These words best describe how I felt on what was supposed to be a celebration of my 62 birthday . After eating dinner , we waited a few hours to perhaps have a birthday cake with my three children . The main server immediately shut us down . "No outside food" she exclaimed . One small cake , and a big "fuck you" later , we ate the cake on Hotel grounds . A big thanks to the front desk . She was a sweetheart . Thanks , Mike and Brian . The food is just a mediocre pub, not sure how some folks are into having the McMenamins passport and visiting all of them after this experience but maybe this one is an anomaly of them. With that said I think they just bank on the many hotels next to it and their golf course greens and fairways being in amazing condition. As soon as I entered, there was an essence of fresh cut pine (I believe that's the wood used in the interior of the building). The restaurant was really busy but our server was attentive and chill. Our food took quite a while but we were thanked for our patience. We were brought the wrong side, but that was remedied quickly. Cute gift shop with friendly service as well. Nice dinner with the family! On this cold damp day clam chowder sounded so good to me. I ordered it in a sourdough bread bowl. Delicious and exactly what I craved. Our grandsons had individual pizzas which they chowed down. My husband and our son had the fish tacos and enjoyed them. His wife had a chicken sandwich with tons of crispy tater tots. We all loved our food. There was a nice fire going in our room of the dining area and our grandsons knew where the games were stored so kept themselves busy while we waited for our food. If I could do a 3.5 star I would but since I feel it's closer to 4 they got 4. I really enjoyed the clam chowder, super creamy and hearty. The kids Mac n cheese was good. Everything else was pretty basic. I went to a teriyaki restaurant less than a mile from here and paid half the cost for better food. I don't think this place's prices justify the taste. Gearhart is definitely one of our favorite McMenamins hotels that we stay at but the food here in the restaurant is very hit and miss. We've come in for lunch and had the best chowder and sandwiches but we've also had dinners that were served cold and simply not good. This visit we were served soft pretzels with the cheese fondue (usually my favorite!) with cold cheese and pretzels that were barely warm on the outside and almost frozen in the center. McMenamins chowder is also one of my favorites but the cannonball was disappointing this time. It was served lukewarm and the clams were so chewy I picked them out. Our drinks were good and our service was friendly. It was a busy evening so things took a bit longer. We didn't complain about the food since the staff seemed to be just trying to keep up. We didn't want to make their evening any more stressful. We'll be back again in a few months and we'll keep our fingers crossed our favorites will be better next time. read more

I love coming here. I've been coming here for however long they've been open I would say. And things change, and they get busy, and their prices go up. But it's still always so good. I appreciate being able to walk to a bar/restaurant from Gearhart by the sea. And it's still relaxing. I enjoy it! Two of us had the tuna poke bowl, we also added a side of the tots which the waitress assured us were very popular. Probably an off day(?) but we waited 45 min for food to come, and no one checked on us or gave us a 'sorry its taking so long'. The poke bowl was quite disappointing, very small portion, and seasoned with a completely incongruous sauce, served over plain 'Uncle Bens' quality rice. The tots were good and generous portion. We always order from here whenever we stay at the resort. I have enjoyed their amazing beer outside as the sun gets closer to setting or even in the middle of the day. Their cajun seasoned tater tots are a must have with any meal...this is required. Everything else here is really good from burgers to sandwiches and we are never disappointed. Where to begin... we booked this 1 night get away in hopes to play a round of golf as a discount was included with the stay (they don't advertise how much the discount is or how much a round of golf is) however this review isn't about the cost. We came here and checked in, immediately making our way to the new Sand Bar. There was only a couple people there and the Bartender, Billie! When I tell You this woman elevated our entire experience, it's an understatement. One of the kindest, most gentle souls out there. She shared many insights to the surrounding area, what food to order at the other bars and restaurants as well as things to do in the area. Hope to get to and on the beach. Sure opened up to us about life and was genuinely interested in ours as well! On her being here alone I'd recommend coming down and having a pint and a conversation! We eventually headed up to the sand trap for dinner and here we were equally pleased with the food as well as drink suggestions made by Billie! Who to our joy as well as many other in the bar, showed up after her shift to order her food to go! 10/10 would recommend a day away here, however 13/10 would recommend if Billie is working! read more

This pub has so much potential. Great location, overlooking a beautiful relic of a golf course. Nice patio and great decor music. Service is okay as well. Unfortunately, I ordered the saddest ahi tacos this world has ever seen for $25. Like the kind you'd make at home, but you'd make them better. They were cold, bland, and served with plain tortilla chips. No salsa. I asked if salsa came on the side and sure, for a $3 up charge. If I was the bartender I would've said, "yeah salsa for your chips? That makes sense! Lemme get that for ya!" Or at least give me the time to run down to the local market for a half pint of pico. Who serves sad $25 fish tacos with chips and no salsa? Looking at the rest of the menu, it's safe to say this place is overpriced AF and the $20 burger is probably the safer bet next time. McMenamins appears more and more as a money pit that doesn't seem to mind the reputation for mediocrity. Don't like your overpriced underwhelming food? Perhaps the $3.25 side salsa will save you! I've always enjoyed the food at McMenamins. However the service.... Is usually pretty lacking. It's a very clean and cozy and nice looking establishment. Probably great if you don't get seated away in the back and ignored for the most part. We saw a table of about six or eight people seated not far from us get checked on quite regularly. We had to do our best to try and catch someone's eye or try to flag someone down. My GF asked for ranch when we ordered and again when the food arrived. When we finally got it, her meal was mostly finished. She is a slow eater. My fish and chips looked and smelled great! They came with no tarter sauce or malt vinegar. When i ask for it and it finally arrived, my food was cold. The cider flights were delicious, apple cherry and I believe some sort of strawberry. Our server was very friendly and probably doing the best she could with minimal help. I don't blame the actual person serving us I blame the management for not keeping them healthy need to cover all the people in the building.
