We had a mix up of our order and had to wait awhile. Our ENTIRE bill was comped! We didn't ask, just was graciously on the house. You don't get customer service like this anymore. I have been going to Manzanita since a child, have always loved San Dune, it will remain my GO TO place always! read more

We like the food and service but wish the outdoor patio was open so we could bring our dogs with us.

One of the lovely parts of Manzanita is how quiet it is compared to some of the larger cities on the coast. But, even being a year round visitor, there are still some things that take getting used to like the limited hours for many restaurants. Even in the high season, the San Dune Pub is only open a few days a week and only during dinner hours. So, no lunch visits or late night drinking sessions. Also, no children allowed, just fur babies on the back patio. The best time to experience the San Dune is on a late summer afternoon or early evening on the back patio. It is a nice place to hang out sheltered from the traffic on Laneda and any strong wind coming off the beach. I've only ordered burgers and it hits the spot served on a brioche bun with a generous side of fries or tots. A funny quirk about the menu is that all of the cheeseburgers are the same price (currently $18). So whether you want a plain cheeseburger or the more extravagant Chipotle Bacon Chicken Burger, it is the same price. You can upgrade the side if you prefer salad or chowder. There are three large screens inside, so it is a place where you can watch a game, but there is also a wall with video poker machines that have the sound turned on, which is quite annoying. Personally, I'd turn left as you enter and stick to the quieter side of the dining space. read more

It's been 8 years since my initial review, and we are staying in Manazita so time for an update! The place is still pretty rustic, but it is clean. They have a nice selection of tap beers, and we ordered a couple of Pfriem (sp?) pints which were delivered promptly. They hit the spot! The menu is still pretty basic, their kitchen looks pretty tiny which kinda constrains what they can do. I opted for the oyster Po Boy and my wife had the fish burger. They were delivered pretty quickly, but we got there right after they opened so I'd expect the kitchen to not be slammed yet. The fries were nice and crispy but lacked salt, but a few shakes from the salt shaker fixed that. I had an ample quantity of oysters, but the sandwich lacked any of the traditional po boy ingredients. They basically took the oyster basket and put the slaw and oysters on a hoagie bun. It was good, but not great. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, no issues with service. They have a nice cocktail menu, next time I stop in I'll have to try their Negroni! Overall, good place for a beer and sandwich. read more

The burgers were yummy and with limited options in the area we were happy to pop in and eat fast bc we were starving. Our server was great and our cocktails perfect. read more

The atmosphere is what you'd expect at a local bar. Neon, beer signs, slot machines. They have a pretty good craft beer selection. Food is mostly burgers and fried food, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. The fresh local oyster shooters were a nice surprise. I enjoy my fried calamari. read more

Walked into this bar on August 11. I remember the date bc I had just found out a dear friend had died. I needed a drink. But the place had decided to close early. When I walked in most of the tables were full of people eating and drinking. When I said hey can I have a drink I just found out my friend died, the reply was we are closed. And this from a bartender I knew and had given gifts to. Totally heartless. Dont patronize this unfriendly place. Mediocre food, children not allowed, no pool table or pinball, just video poker. And staff entirely rude except for the male bartenders. read more

The hubs and I popped by for a drink and appetizer before going out to dinner. We ended up drinking beer on tap and eating cups of chowder. The service was fast and the beer and chowder were really good. The ambience was warm and comfortable. We're looking forward to trying the fish tacos the next time we go. They looked really good. read more

Went in one night for the driest burger I've ever had in my life. No other bar options so I went back. Called ahead to ask if I could get takeout and was told yes over the phone. Showed up and asked to get takeout and immediately the owner became very aggressive, accusing me of lying about calling, laughing in my face, getting in my personal space. My friend and I are 5'5" women and for some reason two grown adult men nearly put hands on us for asking about takeout? A simple "no" would've sufficed. Racist ass owners with the sorriest customer service I've ever seen. read more

Return customers bc we LOVE the fried oysters! Light breading, served piping hot. So yummy. Generous portion too. Clam chowder is much better than that M-'s place. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive. San Dune Pub isn't fancy or foofey, thank goodness. Just good, old school Oregon coast food. read more

They are only opened a few days a week. The server mentioned they make money on Lottery more than any thing else. Not sure if I would go back. Bad vibes. read more

This place is such a disappointment. Sorry ass hours, rarely open, horrible vibes. If you want to go to a dive bar without any of the ambiance go here. Went in 2 hours before closing with a group of 6 and were told that they didn't have time to serve us (we wanted a beer). The rules date back to covid era when you had to stick to your table. For being the only bar in town, this place is such a joke. Every experience in here has been a train wreck. They are selling the bar and it is clear why they have no prospective buyers. read more

Good pub food, friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Always a fun stop when at the beach.

If could give no stars I would. From entering, the staff seemed like they hated being there and us even entering the establishment. Music on the outside patio was absolutely blaring that it was impossible to hold a conversation. Once the waitress appeared, she was visibly annoyed that we didn't want to order food immediately. Then, when she brought the drinks, she spilled some on one of our group and and the waitress made an off hand comment of "oh, did I spill?" We requested to move tables as the music was so loud and this was treated like an end of the world situation by her. Overall, a terrible experience which we ended up chugging our beers and getting out ASAP. Don't waste your time here. They quote it as the "quintessential place to be in Manzanita" I would say it's the quintessential place to avoid. Go to Big Wave Cafe off 101 and actually be treated like a person. read more

I love the San Dune. I love the clam chowder and the tots. But what I love the most are the staff here. They are awesome! Friendly and great service with a smile. The patio is lovely. I only wish they were open more nights!!! read more

Came in for a burger and beer. They had different sports on the TVs. So something for everyone. Service was excellent. I had four very friendly people help me out. Everyone helps each other out which is great to see. They were all friends which added to the upbeat atmosphere. I ordered a cheeseburger and upgraded to the tots. First, the tots were cooked perfectly. They came with a ranch sauce which was just ok. Don't know what it was, but didn't have that blast of flavor I was expecting from ranch. The cheeseburger was excellent. They didn't ask how I wanted cooked, but it didn't matter cause it was perfect. Lots of good stuff on the burger (lettuce onions pickles tomato). There was a sauce on it which I couldn't figure out what it was. I ordered an IPA which turned into two. Very cold, very good. So here is the bonus part. I sat at the bar and while waiting I thought I'd throw a $20 into the video Lotto next to me. First spin got me a bonus which turned into $98. I said, that will pay for lunch and more and took the money and quit. read more

One of only two bars in this cool little beach town. Excellent vibe, plenty of seating, decent food selection, and better than average beer list. Prices are fair and service is friendly. They checked on us multiple times and apologized when they were absent during a small stretch. The oysters were average, but they'll do coupled with alcohol. The tots were ample, but replacing tasteless and boring dark Tilamook Dark Yellow Cheddar with sharp White Cheddar or anything more interesting would give them a taste boost. Good place to watch a game. read more

This is one of my favorites, period. The oysters are amazing and they make magic in the smallest kitchen I've seen! Great beer and booze selections. I can't wait to get back for another Oyster Burger! read more

I have been eating food from the sand dune for 36 years(probably longer, I just can't remember). I use to get food from the take out window when I was to young to go in and then once I could finally enter those swinging doors I made it a stop every time I'm in town! I've had many iterations of their food but it always satisfies the belly. They have really upgraded the back patio with two large tents to cover it and makes for a great spot in the evening to sit out slide and enjoy some food and a drink! There burger are good but their fried oyster are where it's at! I hope someday they can increase their hours again, but for the time being, I'll still make it in when I'm in town and suggest you do too! Ps great place to watch a late afternoon evening duck/beaver game! read more

Terrific burgers, solid fish & chips, and a good beer selection. Great outdoor seating in the back is dog friendly.

Had the oyster po'boy and it was fantastic - the fresh oysters melted in your mouth and the slaw was very flavorful. Everything came out hot piping hot. It definitely got busy and music was a bit loud. read more

I sat by the family who stormed out Friday night. The music wasn't even remotely loud, but staff happily accommodated their request to move tables. We were wondering what their problem was... Their loss. We had a great meal, as always, and service was great. read more

My friend and I were eating our food when the owner walked over and started berating us for moving our table. I told her we didn't move the table. She accused me of lying and called me a "little smart ####". At this point, she was leaning over aggressively with her face less than a foot from mine. I asked for her to step back and was promptly kicked out of the the restaurant. It was an incredibly bizarre experience. read more

I have been coming to Manzanita before the tornado, before Covid, and now post Covid. I work for a major media Al company in supply chain and I readily acknowledge supply chain issues. BUT I have a hard time believing not being able to have clam strips or salmon chowder (the salmon chowder still shows on the web menus as well as the clam strips) and no drinks with a blender ... we don't have a blender, not enough room? Which they did before is a poor excuse. Very misleading, as much as I love this place the new owners have missed the mark and don't understand basic resteraunting. The service was good, the beer was good. We drove from Tillamook to have fried oysters, instead we had fried batter with a pea sized piece of oyster. Very disappointed. read more

Prawn tacos were good - I'm not a huge slaw fan, but whatever theirs is made of worked with the shrimp and the chipotle sauce. The service leaves room for significant improvement, I never got the drink I ordered and after my food was delivered I never saw my server again. Everywhere is pretty short staffed, and I know times are a bit tough - will definitely give another chance if I return to the area. read more

Food tasted pretty good, but arrived a bit more than an hour after we sat and ordered. We were close to asking for the bill and leaving when it finally came out. Way too expensive for the service and wait time considering they weren't even busy. The vibes on the patio are great, good music and I like the fence hangings. Our bill was 100$ for two people, so not great for a simple fish and chips meal. read more

Pub burger. It was fine. Everything comes out with that deep fried smell so you know what you are getting into. Was there during COVID times so I'll refrain from judging their overall attitude. read more

The San Dune bar is cute inside however, the customer service is horrible. Everybody that works there looks miserable, especially the owner, Deborah. Drinks are pricey and no one is friendly. Sadly as no children are allowed we cannot check this place out. What kind of spot serves chili dogs and tater tots, but not to kids?

Back to Nehalem State Park & the husband had told everyone how good the hamburgers where. Wanted to eat outside since it was stuffy & smelled like fish. Thought we'd get a beer while we waited. First told we couldn't do that & had to sit outside & wait for table. A waitress said we could sit at table & she would serve us, than came back & said everyone wasn't happy with us doing that! What is happening with pleasing your customers & we felt so uncomfortable we went to sit outside & wait & started looking for a different place to eat. Boy are we glad we did went to Salmonberry in Wheeler, great view on the river & the food was so good. Fresh ingredients will be back!! read more

They don't allow anyone under 21 here, even kids who clearly aren't going to be drinking. They check your ID the minute you sit down. Very busy Friday night here but they were able to squeeze us in. Fun vibe and broad pub menu. Something for everyone here especially if you like fried food. I opted for the house salad with prawns and a salmon chowder. Good. The best dish was the fish and chips. They also have sweet potatoes fries for those of a gluten free palate. Cozy place in Manzanita that you can walk to and especially fun if there is a game you want to watch live. We enjoyed the exciting sport of curling last night. read more

Two of us dined in on a Monday afternoon. I think the bartender was the server for the entire restaurant, but he promptly approached our table when we sat ourselves. He did a great job serving us throughout our stay in a timely manner. I ordered an Oyster Po'Boy which came with a bag of potato chips. Wasn't a lot of food for $14. The combo of fried oysters, homemade coleslaw, chipotle sauce was tasty though! Husband ordered a chicken bacon sandwich which also came with a bag of chips for $12. Food was okay. Service was good. Food came out pretty quick. It was just what we needed after spending a day at the beach, before heading back to Portland. That was way overpriced though. read more

If they are busy you will be ignored. This place is pretty much the only game in town and it really shows. They can ignore customers and still stay in business. Manazanita badly needs another pub to provide a little competition. read more

I was super excited to bring some friends here, but ended up leaving unsatisfied this time around. I've been to this place a hand full of times over the years and I always go for the fish tacos. This was the first time that I've been seriously disappointed with the service and the food. The fish tacos are a fan favorite as you can tell from everyone's pictures! But this time around the fish was tasteless(I get mine grilled) over cooked and dry, corn tortillas were cold, served straight from the pack, and the slaw was overly sweet. There sauces are always on point though! Comes with a cilantro lime crema and chipotle sauce! The service was pretty mediocre. They had a band coming on at 8 and we were in around 6:30 when it was starting to pick up. From what it looked like there was only one server on the floor and he was clearly falling behind with the amount of people in his section. At the end of our meal I asked if he could split the bill and his response was "I'll try my best" and seemed annoyed that we weren't doing one check. Maybe my standards are too high since I'm a server myself, but this experience was just a bummer this time around. read more
