I purchased my car here in 2012 and absolutely love my Honda Civic! Everyone here is great especially CJ. He did a great job with informing on what the steps we needed to take to get my car fixed under the warranty, and did it in a timely manner. I've also gotten my oil change here since I've purchased my car & it's super easy to make an appointment and fast and great service. Mia the cashier has also been so helpful and patient with me. Overall, this place is amazing, the people are very friendly and helpful, and I look forward to purchasing another car with them in the near future! read more

Called about a used CRV they had in stock. I spoke to a manager and told him I lived an hour away and wanted to know what they would do on price before I made the drive. He said they were too busy to see if the price I was suggesting would work. I asked him to take down my name, number and the price I was suggesting and get back to me when they had time. He then got real aggressive and then said they don't do that and I needed to come in. I told them I didn't want to drive for two hours to find out we can't come to terms on price. He said I just told him I only lived an hour away. I told him I do but would then have to drive an additional hour home. His basic attitude was come in or get lost. I didn't get the impression that he knew buying a car was a two-way street. read more

After looking for a second vehicle for a couple weeks, going dealership by dealership, and having not great experiences, we decided one day to go into McGrath in Elgin. We were then introduced to Anthony, a salesman in the store room. During the three hours we were there we have never experienced such great care and attention to detail as Anthony put into his work. We bought a nice Ford and left way happier than we had ever experienced in a dealership. My husband and I said going home, that if we ever need to buy a vehicle again we will go back to McGrath and ask for Anthony! read more

Not sure what all the complaining is about with this dealership but I had a great experience working with Kevin Schwartz. After discussing my criteria Kevin looked up several vehicles and let me test drive them all. After driving them all we sat down and discussed which vehicle best fit my needs. Kevin could have been the "typical" salesman and tried selling me the highest price one but he didnt. After working the numbers that made me happy I was off to the Finance Dept to sign on the dotted line. Bottom line is this....if you want to but a new or used car with little stress go see Kevin Schwartz and tell him you saw my review. Only one issue to the dealership....i need my floor mats. read more

Darek helped me upgrade my ride to the 2017 CRV Touring Model. He walked me through my selections with absolutely no pressure. He showed and help me compare different body trims and last year trims and costs compared to the 2017 model so I could make a decision. When I finally made up my mind he worked the numbers with me until I was satisfied with no pressure. All phases of the car purchase were painless. He walked me through the Tech setup. He followed up to ensure I received the Tech Teaching Video's website which are extremely helpful. It was a pleasant car buying experience for a great SUV. This is my 3rd car from McGrath and hopefully their will be a 4th. Thanks for your patience and help Darek, great ride, I love it. read more

Warning, do not buy a car from here. Since purchasing a car in July, I have had multiple bad experiences from McGraff. I will start with when I purchased the car. I did almost all negotiating online. When I went to purchase, instead of dealing with the person I had dealt with, I dealt with a salesman, who I had no prior dealings. He seemed as if he had never sold a car and was more concerned about receiving all 10's on his review. Once we got the car home we found a significant door ding that looked like they tried to cover it up. I'll put that one on myself for not looking the car over ahead of time. They did fix it, but I had to take a rental for a week. Next, the guy that sold us the car said we needed to bring it in for an oil change at 5,000 miles, so my wife did. After she got there, they said it wasn't time for an oil change, and gave her a car wash and sent her home. These are the least of my worries. I Transferred plates from our old vehicle to our new vehicle and I bought a new set of plates for our older vehicle. When i went to DMV to transfer those plates to another vehicle, the DMV said the plates didn't exist. i called McGraff and they said the plates have been lost or stolen and that they needed the plates back!!! So, i went back and looked at my bank statements to check. Someone from Mcgraff had forged the date on my check. After about 3-4 phone calls, I finally got the truth, their finance supervisor was a thief. Meanwhile, my daughter was driving around on lost or stolen plates for about 3 months. I gave the plates back and got the money back form them and thought my issues were over. Unfortunately, the vehicle was in an accident in January. I bought an extended warranty for the vehicle and now wanted the refund. It was clearly stated to us upon buying the vehicle that the advantage to the warranty was that we could cancel at anytime. I went back over 6 weeks ago to get the check, and they said it would take a while but guaranteed we would have check in 6 weeks--not sure why it would take so long. Yes, it has been over 6 weeks and no check. I have called with no reply back from them. Yes, we bought another vehicle somewhere else and when we went back to get reimbursement for the the extended warranty they had the balls to ask why we didn't buy from them. Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistakes and buy a vehicle elsewhere. read more

zero stars if it was possible !!! worst dealership ever !!! stay away!!!the sales people know nothing about the cars or promotions . we recieved the car a week late after waiting a month. the car had a chip in the bumper .they assured us it would be fixed . all they did was add touch up paint and the bumper is still damaged . had the car in the service for 3 weeks out of the 8 weeks we have owned it. a week to correct the chip and install honda accessories . brought it back to service a week later cause a brake line broke. they took off the step rail they installed and put it back on damaging the bottom of the car or the step rail causing a gap from the rail to the car . they had the car another week to tell us its from normal wear and tear . mind you we bought the car in july of this year we bought a extended warranty and its still under hondas warranty . but they refuse to cover it . if it was installed correctly in the first place the brake line and the step rail would of not broke in 5 weeks time. i will add pictures soon as we get the car back . im sure honda does not make cars parts or accessories to last 5 weeks. the hood cover was not centered or tape down correctly . we had other accessories installed by them too and now we have to go to a different dealership to have them check the work they did at elgin honda . will be filing a complaint with honda and bbb read more

What makes the difference when buying a car is your experience after the sale. My mother purchased an extended warranty for her car which was pro rata refundable if she sold the car prior to the contract end date. I bought our van 3 years ago love it by the way. But the process of buying it took forever it seriously took 8 hours for them to finally come back with a loan that worked for us as we also traded in an MDX. But during the whole process our salesman changed and both kept saying I don't know why you want a van usually people go from vans to SUVs not the other way around. And we just kept saying we want what we want so either get it or we are gone. But we did look at about 6 vans on the lot so that took some time but still took forever. But anyways we left with it and kept bringing her back for maintenance check ups and would get quotes for stuff more then oil changes. Always a no but still got them. One we went in and they came out and said our battery was dead won't start you need a new battery that will be $150 if I remember I said no way I brought the car in here without issue. They said ok if it will start. Haha what? I left went to Farm and Fleet got a battery put it in myself for $80. Then we move and find out our window and tire warranty we purchase is no longer valid since we don't go there to McGrath but still a Honda dealer. Well that sucks glad we are still paying for this. Contacted them many times and the person I need to talk to is out or doesn't answer their phone. Pitiful customer service and will charge you for anything and everything. But I do like our van but they had nothing to do with that. read more

I was sold an UNSAFE vehicle!! I purchased a "new" used car. It was a terrible experience and I was refused my keys back three times when I tried to leave. I was extreamly hungry after being there for about 5 hours and not thinking straight otherwise I would not have signed. I have Celiac and could not eat their cookies they kept trying to feed me. On top of it all I brought the vehicle into my mechanic as the back breaks were making noises on and off all winter (it was purchased end of November). I though it needed new break pads and it turns out that there were screws missing from caliper which made it UNSAFE to be driving. My mechanic told me that they either forgot to put them on when replacing the breaks or the were not out on properly and fell off. Either way I should never have been allowed to drive that vehicle home and to thin what could have happened to my family! On top of it all there are several other issue with the car that require $1900 worth of repairs! There is no way a 5 month old car purchased from a dealer should need work to this extent. I would have expected this from a no name dealer on a corner somewhere, but from a big named car dealer??? Buyer Beware!!!! read more

Wish I could give zero stars to the Manager 'Andrew' and Finance guy 'Josh Hasting' !! They are very rude and doesn't stand on their word! They gave me a hard time!! No surprise seeing they only have 2 stars as I came here to write them a poor review as well! How funny. McGrath Honda in Elgin had my car for 3 weeks. THREE weeks. They left it outside in the snow most of the time. We ended up paying an add'l out of pocket $1,000 over what the insurance covered $2,000 for tires and etc (we could have done the tires somewhere else!!). So you take a guess if they washed my car out of courtesy....NOPE. After sitting outside for 3 weeks I would have thought it would have been a no brainer to wash the car for the customer. Guess NOT! Also they are all just rude. I've been to this location 3 times now for service and will go elsewhere. read more

We purchased a Honda Odyssey with a trade in. Darek S was extremely helpful. We were expecting having to bargain but we did not have to. We got a great trade in. Darek explained the features of the new car, answered our questions clearly, even came back during his lunch break for a question we had when we had the car, helped us with the blue tooth features. We had our special needs child with us and Darek and Greg D (Finance Manager) were both understanding and cooperative. We were delighted with the finance option and Greg D explained in detail what we wanted to know. We had a great experience. It was Memorial Day and they did not hurry us. read more

We had a top notch purchasing experience at McGrath. We did our online homework ahead of time, researching the trim levels and options on a new Civic, and by the time we drove into the dealership we had negotiated an excellent and fair price for the model we were interested in. Our salesperson (Maria) was terrific to work with, and helped us get just what we were looking for with zero pressure. The gentleman in Finance (Elvis) was equally good, and allowed us to get the loan we wanted with a smile. Good employees like these guarantee we will head back to McGrath the next time we are in the market for a new car. Such a nice change from the kinds of experiences we've had at other dealerships! read more

By far the worst customer service I've ever received. My wife and I went to look at a Honda CRV. The initial interaction with the salesman was pleasant. He was knowledgable and was willing to find us the right car. However, once the process progressed to the finance department that's when the issues started. The numbers where ridiculous! I was planning on trading my car, which I knew I would be upside down. The CRV was $29k and we had to tack on an extra $8k from my trade in. So overall the car was going to cost us somewhere around $37k+. The finance guy gave us this bogus number. He claimed that this car, which was going to be around $37k, was going to be $1600 a month!!! The lowest he could do was $800 a month!! My credits amazing, I've bought plenty of cars and have always received the lowest and best interest rate so I know that wasn't the issue. Upon seeing these numbers I wanted nothing to do with this dealership. When ready to leave we were met at the door by the finance manager who held my keys to my car hostage. He was very rude and confrontational. He claimed there was nothing wrong with the numbers and that people around this area pay that all the time. So he basically insulted us saying we couldn't afford the car. It's hard to fathom that people are willing to pay $1600 a month for a car. This guy was the typical car salesman. One track mind and all about the money. Once he realize we weren't going to buy he resulted to insulting us. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone. Be wary when shopping for Hondas with them. BEWARE!! read more

Terrible. Dishonest. Impersonal. Not knowledgeable about the car I was buying. The prices they list online are fixed! They do not budge on price. They explained, "We list our lowest price online, that's why its fixed, if we didn't no one would come in here." Well, that's true! The approx. 20 y/o that was showing me the car knew absolutely nothing about it stating that it was a custom color and had a body kit put on it by the previous owner, nope! None of that is true it was just an uncommon color and a standard Sport model. Bullying sales tactics. Finally agreed to look at the other car loan rates they could offer me after being bullied into it. 2.5 HOURS LATER... They didn't show me other loan rates, they applied and approved me for a Chase bank loan and shoved it in a stack of other papers for me to sign. DISHONEST. Not to mention that loan had a 7.9% interest rate which they blamed on my credit when the loan I walked in there with had a 4.2% interest rate... SLIMEY SLIMEY SLIMEY. When sitting in the Business Manager's office, crying may I add because I was so upset with their service, his boss walked by and through the glass told him to hurry up, they had just sold 5 more cars. IMPERSONAL. After all that they continued to mess everything up. A few weeks later new license plates came in the mail even though I was very clear that I was transferring registration and didn't need new plates or the extra charge for them! Absolutely terrible in every way. RUN FAR, FAR AWAY FORM McGRATH HONDA! read more

3 years ago, I had to shower after I left their sales department. I ended up getting the exact Honda I wanted at my price in Skokie. I mention this because my 3 year lease is about up and I live 5 minutes from this dealership and have no intention of stopping by for my next Honda. It's off to Skokie again. As a side note it appears that nothing has changed in at least three years. They spent all this money for a beautiful facility and filled it with old school practices. STAY AWAY !!! read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service! Rude employees with no customer service skills! They try to tell you it's not covered under warranty (when it is). I got that resolved but when it came time for their "shuttle service", I was told they were going to be there at 6:30 to pick me up and no one showed. At 7:00 I called, and they said, "I'm sure someone will be there" and they hung up before I could say anything else. The guy showed up at 7:20 and then had an attitude, pointed to the paper and said, "it says here 6:30". Was he serious? I asked him if he could tell time, because it was 7:20, not 6:30 anymore. An update - I contacted the dealership about my service experience, and they contacted me immediately offering to fix my wiper blade and top of my fluids free of charge. The service manager was very nice and apologetic and made sure everything was taken care of when I arrived, they also gave me a credit towards my next oil change. I was happy with the fixes, but wish I had that same service experience the first time I went in. I'll definitely give them another chance. read more

I was a customer of McGrath Honda of Elgin But No More! The first time I was at the dealer was with my mother in law and she wanted to buy a used Honda Pilot and she was trading an almost New Honda CRV but she wanted a bigger truck, during the sale I thought she was being pushed by the sales staff quite hard for their deal, this was so bad that I suggested we go out to lunch and they called and gave a little better deal over the phone. The next time I was interested in a used Honda Ridgeline that No other dealers seemed to have at the time, so I was forced to go back to McGrath and deal with this dealership again. Well they have changed their sales tactics and NOT for your benefit. With my mother in law we dealt with one salesman, this time I felt like a baby lamb put out to for Wolves to feast on. At the beginning of sale I was dealing with one guy he was nice his name was Derek buy the end I was surrounded by 3 salesman who made sure I got nothing I wanted. After the sale I asked my salesman what had been done to the truck service wise he didn't know, so I figured I would get the fluids changed one by one since I got 2 free oil changes in the sale. I called the McGrath's service and told them that I had 2 free oil changes and he Rudely told me they must be used in 12 months I also wanted their price for changing transmission fluid and he said $169 for that and I asked him if they price match he said they Do Not , I couldn't believe that, because all the surrounding dealers were at $99! Well long story short I Never went back there Not even for my 2 Free Oil Changes! read more

Thank You I am a senior senior and through the years I have purchased many cars. I've dealt with many car salespeople, and all in all I've had good experiences, until now. NOW, I not only had a good experience but an outstanding one. I was fortunate enough to have Anthony Juliano as my salesperson. A exceptional, outstanding person. I don't have enough adjectives to describe the service I received. Anthony is knowledgeable, professional, patient, and most of all caring. I started my car buying journey in January. I had a decision to make! Should I keep my car, a C RV, get a new one, maybe smaller, and of course cost entered into whatever decision I made. Anthony didn't try to influence me or push me into a decision. He was my sounding board offering thoughtful questions and comments that made me think. I know and felt he had my best interest at heart. Due to some minor health issues I put my car decision on hold. At the beginning of March I called and set an appointment with Anthony, still not sure what I wanted to do. After several more visits and lots of thought, I decided to lease a new C RV. It's a beautiful red, love it. I'm very pleased and comfortable with my decision. I must mention the service and attention I received from McGrath Honda. When I walked in the door the receptionist gave my a nice smile and a welcoming " how can I help you". I don't know if many business realize how important that first contact is, it sets the tone for going forward. The sales manager and financial persons were outstanding. They know who they are, being a senior senior I can't recall their names right now. But they too were excellent. I know I've almost written a book but bottom line --- ANTHONY JULIANO is the Best. Buying a car from McGrath Honda was an excellent experience. They must be complimented on the fact they have employed excellent, knowledgeable, and caring people. I am currently here with my accord that I did not buy from the dealership. I have been sitting in waiting for 3 hours with it, which is what I expected. The 3 stars are not for that. I have had my 2015 crv, which I bought here, in service at least 6 times. They do not fix the problem, I assume because they make no money on it. It isn't a big problem, but one that needs to be fixed. That is annoying that they don't seem to care in service. When I bought my crv here the process was ok. I negotiated the price I wanted online, came in and they didnt want to give me the price. I held my line and eventually we settled. I was there for at least 5 hours. They offer water but no food, which sucks when you feel like your held captive there like a prisoner. However I did get my price and left, and I like that car. Tl;dr? Service department needs a lot of work in customer service, as well as fixing the problem instead of making me go there 6 times and still not fixing it. Buying a car is ok, but hold your line and if they don't give it to you...leave! That car will be available elsewhere. read more

Looked at a used car and it seemed okay, except it was leaking at the rear diff. They looked at it and said it wasn't leaking, just had recent service and that was excess fluid. On the carfax, it showed it had been serviced in 2010. Doubtfully the case 8 years later. They had it listed for $6,950. Went to look at some others and came back to this car fully intending to buy it and even willing to pay full price. The sales associate was finishing another deal so I went to look at it more and realized the window motor on one side was broken and the CD player was also not working. Still offered them a good price and they came back with a quote that had an added $895 for "accessories" plus their $189 dealer paperwork fee. When I asked what it was for, they told me the $895 was for an anti theft measure because they have had problems in the past. I asked if that was already done and was told it is standard and they couldn't remove that fee, even though I didn't feel the need for anti theft since I live in a very safe community. I explained how deceptive that seemed and that they should put that on the cost of the car or be more upfront, rather than getting another $1,000 in fees. I was ready to walk and she went back to her manager who said, "It's a used car, what do you expect?" In regards to the broken window motor. She also said, "Just don't roll that window down..." unacceptable from a dealership. I expect to pay a higher price from a dealership, but also then expect everything to work at a basic level. Very condescending and the fees are ridiculous. The manager then came over to tell me how great of a deal it was. I walked away from the deal after he refused to lower the price. I'm glad I did after reading some of these other reviews. I would never buy from them. read more

Used to be a great place. First my clutch burnt out at 20k miles... very abnormal. Brought it in, was told $100 to diagnose it. Received a call saying they need a go ahead for $1100 for a further diagnosis. So now they are deceiving me. I already told them what was wrong. They act like I didn't know anything and keep trying to push unnecessary parts on me... totaling to $5800!! I went in and said I need my clutch replaced, a clutch replacement does not cost $5800!! They will befriend you as much as they can but in reality they are still for the company, they could care less about the customer. They could not even give me another price. So ok, I get my car towed to another shop. That day I get a call from the mechanic, "hey your clutch kit will be here tomorrow. This is an OEM Honda clutch kit, for $450." $450!!!! Not $5800!!! The labor I'm paying for the shop still doesn't total up to $5800!
