- Was sold a vehicle with Multiple issues. (including safety concerns) - The Dealer was completely dismissive and unresponsive. - Have never felt more disgusted with myself that I gave someone my money. DO NOT BUY FROM Mcgrath Honda. I bought a used 2013 Dodge Dart from McGrath Honda in Elgin, and at the time of purchase, felt like everything was great. The sales rep was helpful, friendly, responsive to my text messages, and answered my questions. They also explained to me that the vehicle had been inspected and that it was verified safe to drive. The day that I bought the vehicle, and drove off of the lot, I noticed that the alignment was off (by several degrees), and there was a rattle under the vehicle. I was not sure what the issue was with the noise as I could only hear it while I was driving. These are both simple problems, and can be resolved quickly if a technician looks at the vehicle. I also understood that I was buying used. I was not looking for a perfect vehicle. I was looking for a safe, reliable, point A to point B car. So I contacted the sales rep that day, and let him know about the issue, and asked if they could take a look at it. His response was "Unfortunately those issues would not be covered under the state warranty because that covers drivetrain components such as engines and transmissions" Kind of an odd and very dismissive response, especially towards someone who had just bought a vehicle from you, but I continued... I asked him 1) How do you know it isn't drivetrain or transmission issues if you have not heard the problem or had a technician look at it? and 2) If he could please speak to his manager about getting me in to in for an inspection seeing as I had JUST bought the vehicle. Perfectly reasonable request I believe. I did not hear back from the rep for 2 days after sending the last message with my request. So I messaged back stating that I bought this vehicle from a reputable dealer, hoping that I would not be dismissed and treated like this. The Rep FINALLY got back to me and gave me excuses as to why he was unresponsive (I won't go into detail about the excuses). They finally told me that I should bring the vehicle in for inspection, which I did a few days later. It was the most uncomfortable situation I think I had ever been in. I spoke to the service rep when I pulled the vehicle in, and the service rep was EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I felt like he was the only person who was on my side and trying to help me. The service rep and I walked over to the sales rep who had sold me the car. The Sales rep could not have acted more dismissive, quiet, and bothered by my presence. Again, I cannot speak more highly of the service rep, and how he handled the situation. He asked me to step aside, and spoke to the sales rep and his manager as I waited. ... long story short, they ultimately figured out the rattle, and performed an alignment. I was extremely thankful to the service rep and went on my way. However... At this point I had owned the vehicle for 3 weeks, and a check engine light came on (coolant issue), AND most disturbingly of all, The E-Brake cable on the LH Rear wheel was seized, and therefor did not release the rotor when the Hand Brake Lever was put back down in the release position. I figured this out by the EXTREME amount of heat coming from the LH rear wheel, and the burning brakes smell I smelled when I stopped the vehicle at a stop light. After having let the rotor cool on the side of the road, I had to manually release the cable from under the vehicle with a tool kit I had in my trunk just so I could get the vehicle home. I eventually had to resolve the issue myself because I once again messaged the sales rep, and have yet to get a response. This was 8 days ago... Needless to say, I have never been more disappointed in myself for having given someone my money and I will NEVER recommend ANYONE buy a vehicle from McGrath Honda of Elgin. Flat out, I think it is absolutely shameful the way they treated me, and I would expect they will probably do the same to you. read more

Had a really good purchasing experience. My salesman Miguel was nice. Paul in finance was great. That's where the good experience ended unfortunately. I found a major defect on the vehicle a few days after purchase, I notified service immediately to take a look at it. $3600 to replace the top of my dash because it is literally coming off. Dimitri told me too bad. They're not fixing it. It's out of my pocket if I want it fixed. So you apparently can 'inspect' a vehicle for sale and professionals can't notice this?! And you can escape any obligation or sense of doing right by your customers without a second thought. They got the sale and they're done with me. read more

Sold Me an Unsafe Vehicle with Undisclosed Structural Damage I purchased a 2022 Tesla Model 3 from this dealership and was shocked to learn shortly after that the car had prior subframe damage, making it unsafe to drive. Tesla confirmed the issue, provided a detailed estimate for repairs totaling over $2,500, and stated the damage was clearly from a previous incident. This was never disclosed at the time of sale. When I contacted the dealership, they refused to take any responsibility -- even after being provided with Tesla's findings in writing. I was left to either drive an unsafe car or pay out of pocket for repairs caused by someone else's negligence. I'm currently pursuing formal complaints with the Illinois Attorney General and Secretary of State Police, and exploring legal options. I would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a vehicle here -- have it independently inspected before you sign anything. This kind of behavior is exactly what gives used car dealers a bad name. read more

Stay away from the service department! They started out by saying my cabin air filter was dirty and had debris in it, recommending it be changed at a cost of $67. The problem is that I had just changed it less than 48 hours prior to my appointment and driven the car a total of about 6 miles. They either don't know what a dirty filter looks like or were being intentionally dishonest. The cabin filter should have been my sign to say no to everything that came up, but it was a busy day and I wasn't giving it the attention I should have. The other services recommended included a fuel induction service at $200 and a transmission flush at $225. Both of which had been done in the last 10,000 miles prior to my appointment. One service I did agree to was the brake flush at $200, only to realize after checking my service records, had been done in the last 15,000 miles and likely didn't need it again. That one is on me for not double-checking on my end, but it tells me that they were just throwing things at the wall with the hopes I would say yes to one or more of them. They didn't appear to actually inspect or check the need for these services before recommending them. I replied to their after service follow up and didn't even receive a call back. If you have money to waste go see them. read more

I have been a customer since 1998, when they were on Irving Park Rd in Elgin. Purchased our first Honda there. Moved to Randall Road with you and purchased our other cars from there. Always took our cars there for oil changes and whatever else that it might need. We'll, this past January, took it in for an oil change and $811.64 later it was done. Still needed a few more fixes, but decided to take it closer to home. Walking distance, compared to a 25 minute drive. They said that my "wheel lock key" was missing. I called Honda, well to make a long conversation shorter, they basically accused me of removing it. I don't even know what it is. The mechanic drove my car out to Elgin to get the key, which they said was the right one. Only to get back and it didn't work. Honda then told me they must have done something. McGrath Honda staff erroneously attached my vehicle plates to another vehicle at the time of purchase in August 2025. In December 2025 I started receiving red-light tickets. I went to CPD who noticed that the plates attached to my SUV belong to someone else and that the car running those tickets had my license plates. This was a negligent mistake caused my McGrant Honda. I returned to McGrath, they removed the wrong license plates from my car and called in the other driver and gave me, his plates -my plates. They offer no assistance paying for the tickets I did not cause. As a result, I am currently faced with citations attributed to another vehicle and must either pay the penalties or contest the violations despite not being the owner or operator of the vehicle shown in the tickets violations. read more

Was there at 8 am coming from a 12 hour shift and was told it will be doneby 9:23. Inspection showed a nail on the front tire and was told another hour since they were short staffed.
