I was looking for a chair leg pad that I had tried to get at Jabo's, (which surprisingly they didn't have) , so they referred me to McDonnell's. I showed them what I was looking for and they took me right to the spot to find it. I know I wouldn't be able to find this part at a Home Depot or Lowes. McDonnell's may be my new go to for hardware. Tried to arrange to pay for materials over phone to avoid having to go into store and have them load into back of truck, to avoid having to Benin confined store with the health issues we are confronting. All Mgr could say was that they don't take cc over the phone. Nothing about trying to work with customers like: Let customer Drive up and call into store to let them know you arrived. An employee would step out and take your cc or pay cash (Sonic does it, as do drug stores and all drive drive thru restaurants) Figure out a way to take cc over the phone - Keller is a pretty honest town with little fraud or theft so, little worry about dishonest cc use Did not appreciate the gruff and abrupt response with no apology or consideration. I have had much better customer service at D and L and their prices are better. So, I guess that's where I'll be taking my business from now on. read more

While shopping at McDonnell's today I watched as an employee opened the screen door on a chicken coop (where they keep chickens to sell?) and procèeded to kick a rooster hard at least 4 times. The employee only quit kicking when I ask him if he thought kicking the rooster would keep him from crowing (he had been complaining that the rooster was crowing every 5 minutes). The rooster had no where to run to get away from the kicking. I left the flowers I was going to buy and needless to say I will no longer shop there. read more

I used to love coming here and give the local guys a chance. Not anymore. Called today to see if they had any trailers available. Girl answered yes they have several. I told her great, I was coming to get one. I arrive with my printed copy of insurance and everything they requested on their website. When we arrived we asked the gentleman outside who we need to talk to to rent the trailer. He's says not today, they don't rent trailers after 4. It's 4:10, they close at 5 and they girl on the phone didn't say anything to me about them not renting after 4 nor did the website. I explain all to him and he tells me it says as much on the website. I had read the website and told him I still have it pulled up on my phone. He takes the phone from me and says "oh I thought it said that". He then says that they are closing up and trying to leave so he won't be able to rent us a trailer. What a waste of time. He was rude and could care less. They are closed Sundays so now I'm headed to Home Depot who is gladly got to help me and I'm spending almost half of what I would have. Soooooo, I stopped by a few days ago, to shop for ant spray. Landon helped me with my ant problem - or should I say "what ant problem". I had ants around my "Hardscaping". Landon introduced me to "ant killer" which I applied around my house. (Outside area). Another amazing product. When speaking with Landon, I told him, he sold me a bag of "bug" removal for my lawn. I'm sorry folks, I can't remember the name of the product. Ask Landon - it's a white bag with pictures of bugs which live or may live in your yard. I just need to say - buy this product. Purchased $300 of Trim a Slab product. Bought it by the foot and young guy said I could return what I did not use.......They did not honor and said can't return it. I absolutely love this place- specifically for the pet selection. Personally, I'm OVER all of the national brands of pet products made in China and other places. We found Muenster Natural at another place closer to Muenster, TX and were delighted to find they carry it here, too. Prices are slightly lower than what we had been paying for a national brand, AND it's made here in Texas. Their selection of pet treats is really fun to peruse- all kinds of items... Fresh, frozen, etc. I had to LOL at their crawfish dog treats-with alligator! I didn't know dogs could/should have crawfish. The service here is top-notch. I've been here 4 times and every time someone lugs my 35-lb bag of food to my car. And today, they didn't have a 35-lb bag of Munster Natural Senior on the rack. I asked an employee if they might have more elsewhere and she found another bag for me. More, they have a loyalty program so that when you buy 12 bags of the same product, your 13th bag is free-and it's kept old-school on a paper card in a filing box. I was very nice conversation with the lady who worked there about starting to raise chickens and she gave me lots of great information. I am a huge supporter of Keller businesses and I try to shop local as much as possible, but I will not be returning to McDonnell! A young mom, 3 year old daughter in tow, was making a return and the owner Mark Keel proceeded to berate her to the point of tears. As I stood there in line to make my weekly dog food purchase I just couldn't do it. I walked over and explained that the way he was treating her was unacceptable and I would not be making my purchase. His hostility immediately turned to me: "Fine. Go. Get out. Get out. Now!" Love this place! I've been going to Tractor Supply for pet supplies but think I might start coming here. It's a family owned business and the staff is so friendly and helpful. They have a pretty big selection of pet supplies and they gave us a lot of samples for our dog. They also have a lot of unique antiques all around the store. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. They sell fresh farm eggs and I'm definitely going to get some next time. read more

i've been going here for a few years. spent collectively probably 1,000 dollars in here buying my horse feed or shampoo or a new cinch. brought my dogs in here multiple times and bought them some of their treats and leather collars. the staff usually knows what i'm looking for as soon as i walk in. they have almost everything i've ever needed for my horse it's awesome to have them so local. i've never had a problem with rude staff everyone knows me and i know all of them fairly well. only negative to the store is sometimes it's impossible to get in and out of the driveway with traffic. but other than that a great store read more

I like this place a LOT. When I called about the item I was looking for the guy who answered was AWESOME. He even helped me learn to pronounce it!!! LOL So I went in to buy the product (I can pronounce not spell it) Anyway, I walk in and love the atmosphere, I look over and see a GORGEOUS chocolate just resting. He was so sweet! If you're wanting a place to rent trailers, consider elsewhere. I have been here for 2 hours to rent the horse trailer to move my horse to a facility for her health. My insurance card was outdated, so I pulled up my online one and last time they told me to email it to them and they just printed it out. They apparently have to have a hard copy every time, just to make a copy and throw away, only to write down certain information. Remind you, if they had updated technology they would have record of every time I've rented the trailer and could just keep my information on file with the exception of credit card. So now they're telling me they're not allowed to print it and told me to go down the road and make a copy. So my husband and I go to make a copy and when we get back, they have rented the trailer to someone else. Within 30 minutes. Bad customer service. Every time I've rented the trailer there has been some "new rule" that makes the rental process time consuming or problematic. I will never do business here again. They also changed their price for Saturday rentals on me one time. It was $75 Saturday to Monday one time then another person is was $150. Maybe they need to get their own business together. read more

If I could rate zero stars I would! I purchased a saw blade and was told I could return it if it didn't work. The hole in the middle was the wrong size so I went to return it today. We didn't realize the saw blade hole in the middle was the wrong size until we opened it. I told him (man with gray hair, likely in his 60's - the same man who sold it to me) I didn't realize I couldn't return it unopened and he FLIPPED OUT ON ME, IN FRONT OF MY FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I started to cry as he continued to verbally attack me and told him I wasn't begging for him to return it and he said he was returning it and was going to throw it in the trash! I didn't argue with him or anything! Two women in the store also shopping were shocked at his behavior, and one even told the man that she was not going to make her purchase after hearing how he talked to me and he told her to get out! Do not use the trailer rental service from this company. They do not highlight various fees and penalties in their contracts and their trailers are not well maintained. On our recent experience here we received a trailer that did not have working lights and blew a tire, which we were charged for plus tax. You are better off with u-haul which has great equipment with better prices and great customer service. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! They have a wonderful selection of upscale pet foods and treats. I get so excited to go in there and find new products for my furkids. Anything from Turkey feet to organic treats. The young man in that department has clearly been taught how to sell a product as he always tells me the same thing about dog food when I go there. LOL I've been researching dog food nutrition since before he got out of middle school, but it's cute so I let him tell me his speech. The place is cluttered with neat little gift items that gives it that good down home charm. A person could spend hours in there! Everyone is always polite and it's the only place left that I can think of that offers to carry my stuff to the car, opens the door for me and calls me Mam. Chivalry is still at the McDonnel Building! I had to take away one star because I just hate the fact that they do carry some really low quality pet foods that nobody should feed their dog. I feel that if they truly understood and were passionate about food nutrition, they wouldn't offer those types of food, but hey... it is a business and they do try. read more

I have numerous animals and after taking one of my dogs to the vet for his itching (AGAIN) I was recommended a product that was out of budget for me. On a whim I thought I would check out McDonnell Building Materials, a feed store. They didn't have exactly what the vet was selling, but had a similar product for 1/3 the price. My dog has not been itchy for weeks! They also have a wide assortment of other animal supplies which is good, because I have exotics. Their animal vaccines are more expensive than TCAP though so they only get a 4. Staff in the pet supplies section was knowledgeable and helpful. read more

So the following just happened to me about 30 minutes ago. I was filling out paperwork for a trailer rental. They made a copy of my DL and car insurance for the trailer rental. I simply asked if it would be shredded after I return the trailer. The owner of McDonnell's over heard me say it and absolutely blew up at me. The young employee that was helping me w paperwork didn't know what to say. The owner said, "no! I'm going to share it with everyone in Keller! and shook his head in disgust. So I said, " sir, is that an unreasonable question?" He blew up at me. I said, "you know what I'm not going to get the trailer. I'm not going to give you my business." And the owner of the store said, " get out of my store! I'm fixing to call the cops!!" So I asked for my DL back and promptly left. I don't need some story made up about me and the cops called. I've been going to this store for years for various items. I appreciate small businesses (typically) and try to avoid large box stores like H.D. and Lowes and help out the family businesses. NO LONGER WILL I SHOP MCDONNELL's. Is it unreasonable for me to be concerned about my drivers license and my car insurance ID cards sitting in a business's portfolio for years n years? I will no longer by garden stuff, tools, nuts and bolts, electrical cables, custom cut hoses, door hardware, paint, dog food or horse food from this owner. I have been a customer of theirs for 6 years. Yesterday was the last straw. I can say since Leah left in March, it's absolute ZERO customer service now. The staff is very disorganized and helpless. After have excellent service from Leah on special order size cat food, it's now been a cluster 'you know what' for the last two months. Finally yesterday I told the 'Office Manager' the problems I was having and she could care less. I guess with her daddy's money, she doesn't have to be nice or helpful to anyone. I did state to her I was just going to take my business elsewhere out of my pure frustration. Which I should have just left the store then. She not only lied to me about ordering the food, she offered no apologize for the disorganization of not being able to find the food 'that she actually ordered'. About 15 minutes later the young man at front counter found food. The 'Office Manager' in the mean time is telling me I need to leave the store or she was calling the Police! and refused to sell me the food. WOW........... This chick needs to think about what she did....... Obviously she doesn't know one 'disgruntled' customer is way worse than 1,000 happy ones.
