My daughter and I have been on a serious mission to find the best burger spots in the area. This isn't a casual hobby. There are discussions, strategies, evaluations, and sometimes heated debates. We take our burger adventures seriously. For months, my daughter Joy had been talking about Burger Billy's Joint and how great the burger was during her previous visit. With that kind of recommendation, I was excited when we selected it as our next destination. This time, my mother joined us for the adventure. We arrived at Burger Billy's, and I dropped Joy and Mom off before finding parking. Thankfully, free street parking was easy to find nearby. When I entered the restaurant, Joy and Mom were already at the self-service kiosk. Unfortunately, there was no welcome, greeting, or acknowledgment from the male employee working. Looking around, I realized he was the only employee on duty and, at that moment, we were the only customers in the restaurant. I immediately noticed how much I liked the restaurant's design. It had the look and feel of a gourmet burger establishment. While I enjoy the convenience of self-service kiosks, they do eliminate that personal touch. We decided to start by sharing the wagyu carpaccio, the fried green tomatoes, and an appetizer portion of the cavatelli- I really like that you can do appetizer portions of both pastas on rotation on the menu here. We were also brought two pieces of focaccia with incredibly flavorful olive oil (yum!). The cavatelli and the fried green tomatoes were standouts for us, the pasta had a great chew and the bolognese was really flavorful. The fried green tomatoes came topped with a pimento cheese that was incredible. For our entrees, we opted for the braised bison shoulder and the scallops. The scallops were perfectly prepared and were a very generous portion. The bison shoulder was so tender and the accompaniments were incredible- this was a perfect fall dish. We also got the charred sweet summer corn, which was delicious and came studded with the lightest goat cheese, and rustic Old Bay potatoes, which were absolutely perfectly fried and came with a side of some honey mustard. We took a good amount of the sides home and they held up for a day or two! I was really impressed with the wine list here- there were a lot of solid options. The champagne in particular was excellent (and I am picky!). Our server, who I believe was Riley, really made it a special night. He was so attentive and had excellent suggestions. One touch that was so thoughtful was that we had declined dessert because we would be having birthday cake later, but mentioned that the banana tres leches sounded so good. He brought over a scoop of the banana ice cream that's typically on top of that dessert with a candle in it!
