It's something about Jimmy John's bread that has me in a chokehold (literally and figuratively). Quick stop for lunch and there was one person working. I had to wait a couple minutes as she was making an online order, but she was pretty quick with making my order. Best part? They have crushed ice!!! I wish I would've read the reviews before I placed my order. They advertise to be fast ( and the other ones Ive ordered for previously are) but this location here is absolutely SLOW. They notified my that my order was out for delivery but did t arrive until 30 mins later after I received the notification. Sad thing is this location was only 0.3 mins (7 min walk) from where I was. Again I wish I would've known how slow they were I could've walked to go get the sandwich and ate it by the time I received my order. read more

I ordered the veggie submarine. I was greatly disappointed with this "un"glorified cheese sandwich. It was basically a bunch of mild provolone, a few tomato slices, shredded lettuce and two small smudges of avocado 'spread'. There was so little of the avocado spread I thought they had forgotten to put it on the sub so I took it to the counter and was informed that the spread was between the cheese layers. I took two bites of this sandwich and threw the rest away. I decided there was no point in filling my stomach with unsatisfying food. My boyfriend ordered the Hunter's Club sandwich, which he assumed would come on the sandwich bread since it was on the sandwich menu. It came on a sub roll. There is a choice between the two breads listed on the menu but he thought the default bread on the sandwich menu would be sandwich bread. The guy who took our order never asked which he preferred and apparently the default bread is a sub roll, even when you order a sandwich. I did notice that not one person working there ever cracked a smile or otherwise gave the impression that they were customer friendly. I think having a good attitude when preparing food results in better food. Case in point, I have been to the Tyson's Jimmy John's many times and always enjoyed the veggie sub there. The staff members at the Tyson's location are always cheerful, friendly and energetic. The staff members in the Ballston location are the complete opposite; dour, aloof and apathetic. I gave them one star just for existing and another star for the crushed ice their soda machine has (although all Jimmy John's have the same ice). Super Pollo was closed... It's been a couple years since I'd last stepped foot in a Jimmy Johns. I was met with a cool breeze as I opened the door, offering a respite from the humidity. That day, the person running the music station had good taste. The service was fast. The booths were nice. The floor was clean. Food I still remember the bread. It's soft and chewy but crunchy on the outside. I found the Turkey Tom refreshing. The shredded iceberg lettuce was stacked high in a sandwich that wouldn't put you to sleep. The turkey broke apart easily, the mark of good quality, but a lot of the flavor came from the layer of mayo on the bottom. For better companies, Lyft or Via (in DC/Arlington only), but I digress. The sandwiches are always great. I get the #2 Big John usually. The roast beef is fresh-cut unlike Subway. The tomato is good and the bread is soft & delicious. They were fast like any other Jimmy John's too. The parking lot is free but small. Jimmy John's has been a go-to in my household for ages- usually I get delivery from the Rosslyn one, as it's closest to my house, but since the Covid-19 crisis forced the Rosslyn one to close, my delivery comes from here. Now I'm not expecting freaky fast delivery, especially considering the circumstances, so I have no problem with how long the sandwich took to get here. What I do have a problem with is the repeated inability of the employees at this location to accurately make a sandwich. The last 3 times I have ordered, something's been wrong with my sandwich- either the wrong bread, the wrong sauces, or something, but today's order was the culmination of bad orders- everything was wrong. I got all the freebies on my sandwich, and the only thing I got "ez" was lettuce. As soon as my sandwich came I knew something was wrong; it looked too flat. Lo and behold, there were barely any toppings other than cheese and mayo; I believe there was one single pepper on my entire sandwich (I asked for extra peppers.) The pickle I had ordered was also missing, and the bag of chips was sticky and stained on the outside, and rancid on the inside. I don't think I'll ever be ordering from JJ's again. I've eaten here probably around 5-6 times over the year and the place keeps going downhill. Ate here for an early dinner this week, came in around 4:30pm. The cashier taking my order didn't say one word to me, he just stared at me while I was about to give him my order. I ate my sub and killed my unflavorful bag of chips and went to go refill my ice tea and low and behold there was one of the employees sleeping on the table right near the soda machine. This dude was knocked out cold. Thats pretty appalling and so many disgusting things come to mind when an employee is sleeping, and possibly drooling, on a table. It looked like a shift change as there were 2-3 guys coming in and hovering around this guy sleeping with his head on the table. None of them said anything to the guy, they just let him be. I walked away shaking my head. Thats pretty embarrassing. The management in this store needs a values and restaurant check. Best option for quick, good food in the Ballston area. You always know what you're getting with Jimmy John's. Just know that you will get a sandwich slathered with mayo - if you're ok with that, you'll like this place. A lot of restaurants and other stores could use a staff like the one here. They are by far the friendliest and most efficient group of employees I have ever met in a place like this. They are always happy and nice to customers. Jimmy Johns is a solid sandwich place that is definitely a step above Subway. The bread is better than subway, and the tuna is pretty good. Last time I went, I felt there was a little bit too much mayo in it, but it didn't ruin the sandwich. From the time I ordered, it took only about 3 or 4 minutes for me to get the tuna sandwich which was fast. The tomatoes, lettuce, and provolone cheese tasted good. It's an italian sandwich with genoa salami, provolone, capicola, lettuce, tomato, and italian vinaigrette. It's perfect and satisfying and all I need to get me through a long day of studying. The woman who made my sandwich pointed to the corner of the counter and said "they're right there" then went on with her day. They weren't busy. I was the only one there, so I couldn't understand why she couldn't get the bag and put my food in it for me as this is what I would consider essential service. I had to reach over the counter, which made me feel uncomfortable as it looked like I was reaching into their work area. The first time I ordered delivery, I asked for 3 packets of mayo and got none. My best-friend and I tried JJ's today for lunch and it was cool. The atmosphere is nice and the staff are courteous. You are greeted as soon as you walk in -I like that; it makes you feel welcomed. There are several tables to sit down and eat and two one commode bathrooms which are very clean. I ordered the Lulu, which is turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I opted not to have cheese - not sure why since I had mayo. It was tasty, but the bread was great. I would order just the bread and go home and dip it in olive oil...that's how good it was to me.
