This location is in need of significant managerial help. I placed an order online for pick up, then went to the location. After standing there for the better part of a half hour -- without so much as someone acknowledging me, and watching multiple customers come in, place their orders, and leave with them -- when I finally asked where my order was, they showed me that it was still buried behind a large number of tickets, with the excuse being that there were only a couple of them behind the counter, and that they were "busy." Workforce sufficiency and work flow are management problems, that need to be fixed. I was left with really no choice but to cancel my order, ask that my credit card be refunded, and leave. "Freaky fast" my eye. I would strongly recommend patronizing this location only at off hours, and even then, when you're not in a rush. read more

I was taken aback by just how awful the sandwiches are. They are kind of like Subway, except that Jimmy John's bread is tasteless, there are way fewer toppings, and you get less meat. I was advised by the guy taking my order not to get the gargantuan because it was too much meat. I got the Country Club instead - one slice of ham, and one of turkey. with a lot of shredded lettuce, some tomatoes and onion, and mayo. My wife and I spent a lot of time at Jimmy Johns while we were in college years ago, and we very happy to have one move into Crystal City and finally (finally!) near our neighborhood. Although we're happy, we're sad that JJs will not be a special treat anymore when we visit our alma mater. Very clean place, and courteous staff. There is ample street parking on North Quincy and some side streets (not sure about how it will be during the lunch rush). It was day 2 when I wrote this review, so they're still working out the kinks (the speed of making sandwiches that you would expect at a JJs... but I wasn't in a rush tonight and was happy with the accuracy of our special orders), but I'm sure they'll have those knocked out in no time. This JJs stays open until 10pm every day right now, which is sad because I know I'd hit this place up after the bars on the weekend. No five star because they do not deliver to my wife's work near George Mason and Lee Hwy. Even though her workplace is about 1.5 miles away, the staff said it was just too far because it was more than a five minute drive in traffic. My wife was bummed to say the least. read more

As any lovely lady might tell you, being freaky fast is not always a good thing. Yes, JJ's delivery was very quick (which is not so surprising given their sandwiches don't require much cooking). But the shop didn't get the toppings I had requested (over the phone I had to actually repeat myself twice). No hot peppers, no sprouts, no kidding. JJ's sandwiches are actually better once you toast them in your oven. Not a bad alternative overall when you're too lazy to make yourself a sandwich with household staples. read more

Jimmy John's (JJ's) in Ballston is a sandwich shop with a dining area, tucked away on the west side of N. Quincy Street, over on the other side of the block east of Ballston Common Mall. On my first visit I dined in, and for a sandwich shop it certainly is a fairly pleasant place to sit and eat. Do note that, as another reviewer mentions, they bafflingly hide the napkins behind the short counter where you pick up your food. Just reach over and grab what you need. I was fairly excited when I initially discovered this place, but even more delighted after I began eating my first meal here. I was all but jumping up and down. Well, ok, maybe I was doing a little bit of a happy dance. Why? LETTUCE WRAPS! Really good ones. JJ's calls them "unwichs." I've been fortunate to have tried a couple different ones now, including the #9 Italian Night Club with the optional hot peppers, and the #12 Beach Club. Both were gratifyingly large, filling, fresh, and delicious. I have them hold the mayo, and add Dijon mustard. According to multiple other reviewers, they're always really heavy with the mayo, and this may be a good or bad thing, depending on your preference. Some things are easy to miss on the menu, unless one reads carefully. Note the "freebies" one can have added: onion, lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, mayo, sliced cucumber, Dijon mustard, oil and vinegar, and oregano. One can also have them add salt and/or pepper. Also available, at additional charge, are: an extra load of meat, extra cheese, extra avocado spread, hot peppers, jumbo kosher dill pickle, and potato chips. The beach club normally includes both the sprouts, and avocado spread. Unfortunately, on my latest visit, after I'd decided to try the unwich beach club and take it to go, I left, began eating, and realized they'd left off the sprouts (!) -- which were a large part of the reason I'd looked forward to it that day to begin with. Talk about a buzz kill. After I've eaten here a couple more times -- and successfully gotten a sprout fix from them -- they may earn another star. Maybe even two. read more

Good food but they are terrible at getting orders correct .... four times, four orders wrong. I do takeout. My colleague who does delivery, almost every time, something is missing from her order. And their solution, if you catch it, is to take off the ingredients, not remake. Another time they served meat with plastic still on it. Based on other recent reviews, this store is simply lackluster and lacks direction/management apparently. If you want an order made wrong, come here. The N Quincy motto: So Wrong. So Many Times. This place is normally fast and the sandwiches are ok. I just was hung up on 3 times by a female voice. I don't know if they are too busy and she just doesn't want to take any orders, but whoever the manager or owner of this franchise is should find out who is staffing the phones right now and investigate why she is hanging up on customers. Pros: they deliver pretty fast most of the time, you can order just one sandwich, and the sandwiches are decent. And if they make a mistake, they're quick to resolve the issue. Cons: The quality control is spotty and seems to be getting worse with time. Sometimes my order is perfect and arrives in a flash, like 10 minutes. Then sometimes things aren't quite right, like maybe I've asked for the sandwich to be cut in half but it's not, or I've asked for (and paid for) avocado, but it's missing. And then there's today, when they brought the entire wrong order (though the receipt on it was perfectly correct), with the wrong sandwich and the wrong sides. And this was an online order, so it's not like they could have misunderstood me over the phone. I called them, and they sent a guy over with the correct sandwich - but not the sides I'd asked for. I'm hoping the third time's a charm, because I'm starving by now. read more

I think service here is below average, but the sandwiches are cheap and decent. I feel like they tasted better at UVa, but the ingredients are fresh and the sandwiches are decently priced. I really enjoyed the gargantuan, and the beach club was good too. My only complaint is the bread. The wheat bread is extremely extremely thick. I don't really like bread, so I definitely took that off. The french bread that came with the gargantuan was a chewy bread....all i'm saying is that the bread is definitely subpar....but I wasn't walkin in expecting superb french baguettes anyway. will be back! read more

When you walk in you know its going to be good because it smells like fresh bread baking. And it is. They have a good amount of variety in the sandwiches and chips and I think everyone can find something they like. I'm not crazy about Subway or even Potbelly, to me, this place is it for a sandwich. YUM-OH! As previously mentioned in reviews, it's difficult to give sandwich shops 4-5 star ratings because at the end of the day, it's a sandwich. But a 3 in my books is a repeatable sandwich joint! I LOVED Jimmy John's! Last night was my first time trying it - Hubby and I decided to enjoy some fresh air and walked over at about 8 PM. Staff were extremely friendly/welcoming when we walked in. I ordered the Club Lulu, and Hubby ordered the Country Club. We were in delicious heaven. That French bread tastes fresh baked, and the ingredients on each sandwich were also fresh. I always enjoy a sandwich that leaves me full and happy afterwards - Club Lulu definitely hit the spot! Tip: Add hot peppers for an extra kick. This definitely made my taste buds dance. I go here more than I'd like to admit, primarily because it's one of the only "quick serve" places in Arlington with parking (although I'm usually illegally parked while I wait - thank god they are known for rapid sandwich-making). The prices are good, my order's always right, and the employees are friendly. Follow-up: the owner of this location reached out to me about our experience. I was very impressed with how quickly they wanted to address this. I also received a phone call from corporate. They had apparently received a large delivery order that had used up the bread I saw on the counter. I would have completely understood had I been told that at the time. Without knowing that piece of information, coupled with the team member's sour mood, we were left with the impression they didn't want to serve us. Long story short- I'll give it another shot. I just want to give a review to this store in particular. I had placed an order online for a lateish pickup, low and behold when I get there, I went to the wrong store. Blah. I was on my way out when one of the staff members caught up with me and said hey no worries, we will void out your order at the other store and we will make it here. I have to say I was tired and when they went out of their way to make my life a little easier, it just allowed my day to end on a high note. Freaky fast for real. They also take service seriously. I called them during a crazy rainstorm and they were super apologetic that they couldn't deliver because someone was out sick. I didn't even think twice about it, because honestly I wouldn't want to go out in rain like that and totally understood. A couple days later the store manager called me and personally apologized and said it was a really rare occurrence and they wanted to make it up to me with free coupons. Awesome! I give my order to the counter guy; "Big John (or whatever its called) with salt and pepper" Answer: "we don't have salt and pepper" ...channeling John McEnroe I think....you can't be serious...nope, dead serious. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS LOCATION. On 2 separate occasions I ordered from this place because I needed food and needed it fast ("freaky fast" delivery is literally this place's slogan). Both times I waited over an hour. Both times I called 1-2x and was told "oh yeah your delivery driver has been out for quite awhile now, that's strange". The second time I was told a manager would call me back to offer some sort of explanation or voucher - I obviously never got that call. In short: if you're around Quincy street and can go in person, then go for it; if you're banking on getting food delivered fast, you'll have better luck going to the grocery store to buy and prepare the food yourself. read more

Jimmy John's is usually good, but this one is very poorly run. I'm used to a truly "freaky fast" service on campus, but here you can wait ten minutes with no body else there. The sandwiches are also thinner, and the bread seems crushed. I'll rate most jimmy johns 4-5 stars based on value, but this one is awful. read more
