I stopped in here randomly for dinner one evening and I'll definitely be back! Probably one of the best banh mis I've had - the bread was amazing, and the ratio of filling to bread was just right. I went with the pate and viet cold cuts but all 9 of the banh mi options sounded amazing so I may just need to try them all. I also got a black milk tea with boba just because I was feeling a little extra. It was a pretty basic milk tea but the boba was nice and chewy so that's a win in my book. I'll probably skip the boba on future trips but with the other banh mis, pho, and apps on the menu there's still plenty to try!

Great Banh Mis and John is so kind! Definitely check this place out. Fresh bread baked in house.

We really wanted to like simply banh mi but unfortunately it just didn't meet our expectations. Our first impression was of the website which was not user-friendly. We couldn't figure out if/how we could order online, so we went inside. The inside is small and seemed a bit dirty tbh. You order at the counter which was quick. We got chicken & shrimp spring rolls, 1 lemongrass chicken noodle bowl and 1 beef noodle bowl. The spring roll was kind of hard and chewy, but the peanut sauce was good. The noodle bowls had very little protein in them. Maybe half of a chicken thigh. The chicken was good but the beef was very fatty. We ate every bite of our bowls but were still hungry. Definitely pricey for the amount / amount of protein you get. While it wasn't HORRIBLE, I will likely not be coming back.

Pretty good. Stopped by after Arlington book sale on a Friday and they were still getting ready and they were opening a little late. Soon after they turned on the lights though, a steady stream of regular customers came flowing in. I ordered a pork belly banh mi and a Viet meats one to go and it came out pretty quick. Unfortunately they gave me two pork bellies so my Vietnamese friend couldn't give me a legit review of the place. She didn't like the pork belly. I thought it was pretty good but a little skinny on ingredients--the bread was light, fluffy and crispy; the flavor was yummy. But I don't order banh mi a lot, so I might not be a good judge. I would come back to try the pho.

Returned for same noodle dish, repeat performance & experience. Service & atmosphere/ambiance were equally fantastic. Highly recommended.

I didn't step foot in the store as my husband stopped by on his way home; decided to try this for dinner so we ordered online. Online ordering was easy. I ordered 2 Bahn Mi's all were labeled as "Lemon or Lemongrass" but when we got it, I didn't taste anything remotely close to lemon grass. Ordered Spring rolls; but the peanut dipping sauce was suspect. I never in my life ever seen or eaten whipped peanut sauce. And it didn't taste right; i'm not sure if this was a "vegan" option??? Lastly, the vermicelli was something my youngest was looking forward to this but was highly disappointed as the meat had no real flavor or even again, a hint of lemongrass, a lot of fried shallots that i we powered the dish. And the pickled carrot and radish on both sandwiches and dịsh wasn't marinated long enough. Suffice to say, I was disappointed as we very rarely get to have authentic Vietnamese food.

10/10 amazing food and people. The owners are so nice and made my meal feel like a home cooked meal with family. Diana hand painted these gorgeous macaroons ! Not only pretty but are delicious. So happy to see this store location in Arlington as I used to go to the location in Georgetown. Make sure to pop in!

I'm calling it now, this is going to be a Big Thing for the Ballston neighborhood. I happened upon the new location of Simply Banh Mi on a walk and was lucky enough to get to try it out during its soft opening. I got the BBQ pork belly banh mi with sriracha and jalapeños and it was everything I could've wanted in a banh mi -- the bread was fluffy and crunchy and perfect, the pork was flavorful and tender, the veggies had a great crunch, and the jalapeños were actually hot. I overheard that the bread is made fresh, which I loved. They've got a couple of 2-top tables and a few booths, for those who are interested in dining in. It was great meeting John, the owner - he shared that their food is halal, which I didn't know! He also shared that they will have an upcoming grand opening -- I'll be keeping an eye on their Instagram (@simplybanhmi) for when that date drops. Currently, their soft opening is offering a limited menu of banh mi and pho (see attached menu). Likewise, it sounds like you can shoot them a DM on Instagram or give them a call if you're looking to check out the soft opening. Ultimately, we left knowing that this will become a regular spot for us, and I'm thrilled to have it as a new addition to the neighborhood. PS: If you've read this far and are looking for a laugh, I'm obsessed with their website (simplybanhmidc.com) - it's not yet updated with the Arlington location, but it's a hoot.

Noodle Bowl with chicken and shrimp

Not worth the price. Paid $18 for chicken and added extra shrimp protein... got 2 oz of chicken and literally 3 small shrimps... paid extra for more protein but dang, didn't realize I was getting an appetizer. Gave this spot a second chance but they're very frugal with their protein. Food tastes great but it's a shame at that price point and small portions... I won't be back.

Disorganized and *very slow* for fast food. Seltzers and water but no standard sodas. Limited seating is tight for space. Orders placed together came out over the course of 30 minutes. Very Limited menu BanhMi Sandwiches and pho. Condiments, napkins and cutlery in short supply and only available by request. Chicken pho was tasty but very light on protein and vegetables. Music was gangster rap coming from the kitchen.

The place is really efficient and staff are friendly. Plenty of seating indoors at lunch. I got the lemongrass tofu bahn mi with peanut sauce and vegan Mayo. The carrots, daikon, cucumbers, and cilantro were fresh... and the baguette the best I've had in years. I only wish the sandwich had slices of jalapeno. I should have asked to make sure it was included -- it's a necessary ingredient!

There's a lot of back-and-forth about who offers the best sandwiches./subs in the DMV. My vote is for The Italian Store! Anyone who remembers this place from years ago remembers taking a number, waiting in line, and getting one of the best made-to-order subs in the region? The sandwiches were worth the wait. Maybe the parents moved back to Italia and the kids got stuck with the greedy landlord. Now its just a lazy we don't care overpriced landlord run revenue generator. 6 years after COVID and the subs are still pre-made dying in over stacked pile on the counter. The rolls are often soggy by the time they reach the customer, and the fillings are so thinly layered that each bite feels more like bread sandwich with some after thought what's inside. It screams KEEP THE COST DOWN. What was once a destination deli now feels like a place that's simply too tired to care. The decline reminds me of when DC bartenders traded free pours for jiggers. Less booze, higher prices, and a straight face while handing it to you 30 minutes later with a clever name like Adam's Apple. Same business model here. Less meat, more bread, and somehow we're all expected to clap. The saddest part is that it's still busy, largely because there are fewer and fewer alternatives. The independent mom-and-pop shops that gave this area character have been pushed out, and we're left with a shell of what this place used to be. At this point, I've had fresher and better-constructed subs from Harris Teeter. That's not meant as a compliment. When customers start comparing a legendary deli to a grocery store sandwich counter--and the grocery store holds its own--it's probably time for some serious soul-searching. Nostalgia can only carry a business so far. Unfortunately, the sandwich I had was living almost entirely on memories.

Well seasoned with a good crunch. The steak and cheese for me was a mixed bag...I saw my food coming and was dumbfounded by how big the bread was, and I didn't see any meat popping out. Pulled the sandwich open and saw what little meat I got. For $12.95, I feel a little ripped off. Especially when places like The Broiler and George's Steak and Things offer similar prices with an astoundingly higher meat in the meat to bread ratio. What little of the meat was available was delicious. I wish I had gotten a sub-$13 worth, not barely $7.65. Not sure I could come back. With how much I paid, it felt like a diminished return. It only took a quick 10 minutes to receive our entire order, which was 3 burgers, a crispy fried chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and 2 milkshakes! The smashburgers are made with 100% halal beef and they come out HOT with perfectly crispy edges on the patties and a juicy center. We ordered 3 burgers and each of them stood out in their own way. You can get a single, double, or triple patty burger and add whatever toppings to it too. The jalapeño burger was the star of the show, it had a such a nice and spicy kick to it. I wasn't expecting much but this burger had HEAT! Another favorite was the Juicy Lucy. It was packed with grilled onions and the patty was stuffed with cheddar cheese. A super messy and cheesy option that was definitely worth every bite! I liked that Jon's Joint offered other options too such as loaded fries and fried chicken sandwiches. What I found unique is that for the loaded fries, you can get it with falafel and make it spicy! This time, they had run out of the falafel so I am excited to try it next time. Then we spotted Colada Shop tucked away in a little corner/alley next to Tatte. Naturally, the plan changed. When a place catches your eye like that, you have to investigate! Colada Shop is a cute little spot with a small patio, a few booths, and a bar inside. You can order using a QR code, kiosk, or directly at the bar. We opted for the bar and were greeted right away. The vibe inside is relaxed, casual, and full of Latin influences. There are also self-serve water stations both inside and out on the patio--which is always appreciated, especially when you're walking around Clarendon just looking for a "quick bite" that somehow turns into a full meal. I went with the Colada Shop Cuban, while the wife ordered the empanada tray with bacon & egg, summer corn, and beef, along with the chilled corn soup. The Cuban was delicious! It came with a generous amount of ham and slow-roasted pork, making for a seriously satisfying sandwich. The wife's chilled corn soup was actually the star of her meal. The empanadas were hot, flaky, and packed with flavor. The staff was friendly, although I did notice there wasn't quite as much interaction with guests sitting on the patio or in the booths. Most of the interaction seemed to happen at the bar. There also appeared to be a pretty small staff, with most of their attention focused on the coffee bar. That said, our bartender was doing ALL the things--helping customers at the bar, handling coffee orders, and delivering food to people sitting in the booths. Despite the limited staffing, we still had a great experience. Everything came out fresh, the food was delicious, and we were pleasantly surprised by this little hidden gem. So if you're wandering around Clarendon and find yourself debating where to eat, keep an eye out for Colada Shop. You might just walk in for a quick bite and walk out wondering why you hadn't tried it sooner.

Everything on it was great, with my favorite being the sliders since it was crispy and a little meaty. The empanada was a little oily but still satisfying, and the croquettes had great crunchy texture. Yuca was okay. I should've gotten a sweeter coffee drink cause I have a sweet-tooth but it was still solid. The inside vibe is pretty chill. You just grab seating yourself and can order on your phone through the QR code that's associated with the table. You can also order at the front.
