I visited McDonald's in Kapaʻa, Kauaʻi, Hawaii [4-0771 Kuhio Hwy] on Saturday, 01/24/26, around 7:30 AM. I decided to order one of the local favorites: the Portuguese Sausage, Eggs & Rice Platter, priced at $6.69. The breakfast tasted very good, especially the flavorful sausage. The platter was even better after adding a little salt and pepper to the eggs and mixing everything together. The drive-thru line moved at a nice pace, and the food prices were affordable. I also loved spotting roosters roaming the parking lot, which added to the island's charm. Overall, I'm glad I stopped by this McDonald's location in Kapaʻa. I only wish the epic Portuguese Sausage Platter were available at McDonald's locations in other U.S. states. Nevertheless, I appreciated the uniqueness of the food offerings on Kauaʻi. read more

This location isn't vastly different from any other McDonalds you might frequent back on the Mainland, except they do occasionally have some Local/Regional Specialties that would be fun to experience: -Deluxe Breakfast with Portuguese Sausage, SPAM and rice... -Taro filled Pies... -Royal Kona blend Iced Coffee.. -Haupia Pies... And of course, above their front entrance it greets you with the word "Aloha", the salutation of Hello (or Goodbye) in Hawaiian as you walk in the front door. In my opinion, I love how an International Brand like McDonalds strives to maintain its consistent standards of how their food tastes no matter where you are in the world, but allows for small regional nuances to appeal to the local market that you are in. Of course, I like most people like what I like, and no matter where I am at in the world... If I'm going to McDonald's, I'm always going for the Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal with either a Mr. Pibb or Dr. Pepper and sweet and sour sauce to dip my fries. Came here for a one day trip and stopped by Kapaa store before heading to the airport. Presentation is not what I expected. I ordered a sausage mcmuffin with egg and was presented with my sandwich actually showing. It was like they rushed the wrapping. Other diners noticed it and laughed and shook there heads. Never expected this. Recommend training. I worked for McDonald's over 30 years ago and it was the best starter job. Presentation and customer service is what brought customer's coming back. If I can give zero stars I would. 7-11 parking lot was packed packed, so I couldn't go there so next best quick stop was here. BAD CHOICE. To be safe ordered what I thought was a #1 egg mcmuffin meal with large orange juice. Only thing they got right was large orange juice. They gave me no hash brown which I noticed and went back in and got. But when I drove away and wanted to eat I realized they gave me a sausage mcmuffin instead of the regular egg mcmuffin. I HATE sausage mcmuffin as I didn't even buy it back when it was just 99 cents. I did decide to take one bite to see if it got better. First bite spit it out, not only did it taste the same, it had EGG SHELLS in that one bite. At least I know they use real eggs, but I just threw that crap away. Spending the afternoon jumping and playing in the McPlayground. All us kids would slide down the slide then grabbing a bite of our cheeseburger or McNuggets before running to the McBall pit. Wipe off the soft serve on our pants, wipe our mouth with our sleeves. Stinky socks jammed back into shoes in McCubbies. Wiping off our play sweat with McNapkins. On the ride home in the church van we'd play with our McToys and make houses with our Happy McMeal boxes, good ole McMemories. And so the other weekend, my mom requested a McOrder of everything not really McHealthy. She hardly eats fast food. Don't tell me these memories are false memories made up of dreams and stories other kids told me during recess! This can't be happening! Manager was screaming at employee for no reason at all. I came to see if my order was ready and it just had not come out yet, so the cashier went to find my order and the manager insisted I had received it, which I had not. Then the manager yelled at the employee saying "what is that on the counter?!" And it was somebody else's order. The cashier who was being yelled at was calm and apologizing to the manager even though she did nothing wrong. Manager should be fired, I can't imagine working for such a toxic manager. read more

Fairly not busy location. Waited 10min for that freshly baked taro pie and boy was it worth the wait! It had a crispy shell and the inside is just e right amount of taro sweetness. Yummmmm..They don't have the saimin as I had seen in another McDonald location and everything else on the menu is pretty much the standard ones. They also offer mobile order and pickup. Staff here are nice and place is big enough for family sit downs. read more

Only reviewing for the Haupia pie which was about $2.50! That's all I got. Came around 11 AM looking for the taro pie I saw some reviews on here. They instead have a Haupia pie (coconut milk and cornstarch based -- I had to look up what it was). It was a hot, flaky, delicious crust with a light pudding-consistency coconut inside. The flavor was very light - I could barely taste the coconut so that's the downside. However, the crust was honestly the highlight (I added some pics so you can see). Their service was fast but inaccurate. We ordered a large chicken nugget meal and two M&M McFlurrys with extra M&M's and they were wrong. Our McFlurrys didn't have extra M&M's but it had Oreos in it, then our meal was a medium instead of a large. When we asked if they could change it they only changed the medium drink to a large and left the fries medium and kept our McFlurrys with Oreos and M&M's soo yeah. I usually like ordering from this McDonald's so it was disappointing that our order was wrong and we didn't get our order corrected. read more

It's a conspiracy to get people eating more than necessary , LOL. DId try the FRIED banana & Taro pies. Something different, and just good while fresh. The banana is more like a puree though, and the taro pie has a few bits of whole taro. If you're Filipino, it tastes like turon and the taro one is like guinataan in a crust! Not a mainland item, so had to get them. After a week of eating Kalua pig, spam musubi, chicken teriyaki and island fried chicken, the mainland style food was a welcome change. The drive thru is a little odd though - it looks like the same place for entry And exit, and a really tight turn to get to the pay window and order pick up window. Had to stop in for the fried guava pie! Yes, I know it's true. Me at a McDonalds? What was I thinking? But hubby Tom had just heard the radio advertisement that guava pie was back so on our last trip through town, on the way to the airport, we just had to stop in.
