    Coffee and malasada

Tried Wailua Bakeshop on my last day on Kauai and I wish that I would have visited sooner. Planned for a run beforehand and ending here - my motto is I run so I can eat, and coffee and donut are a standard post run grub for me. Was met with a welcoming smile and ordered a coffee and a plain malasada and sat outside - there were plenty of seating inside but I wanted to sit outside. Coffee and malasada were very good. The selection of malasadas looked incredible and I saw others ordering them. I can't wait for my next visit to the island and will definitely come here and try a filled malasada.

We hit up this spot prior to our journey to the northern part of the island for the day. It was right near our resort, so we walked over and headed out! It's a cute little shop, bright and welcoming. We were helped right away. They have a lot of items to choose from. We had to ask about some of the malasadas and the fillings, and they were super friendly and helpful. My oldest got a huge strawberry matcha. I opted for a regular sized blueberry matcha. They make their syrups in house. The matchas were really good. My youngest got a hot chocolate and said it was good! We got an assortment of malasadas. The strawberry ones were the best. The Ube was just okay. They didn't taste super fresh, and I wish they'd been warmed up. Maybe they would have done that if I'd asked. Oh well.

Stopped in here after grabbing coffee! Everyone was craving a malasada and there was no better place than the Wailua Bakeshop. The have a display case with all sorts of malasadas and baked goods. The staff was friendly and the price of the malasadas was fair. We ended up getting a few different flavors to try, but the classic and the POG were my favorites!

We had malasada's here for breakfast & the coffee was just okay. The plain was everyone's favorite. The mango flavor was the best out of the filled and tasted fresh, coconut was just okay. I wouldn't get the coconut flavor again, but would get the rest. Super convenient if you are staying in Kapaa, cute place will return.

The morning muffin was so good, and we are newly obsessed with lilikoi thanks to the filled malasada. Wish the malasadas were warm as the dough felt a little dry. Would stop again if the "Hot Malasadas" sign in the window was lit.

Coffee was good. I ordered a vanilla latte. Malasada was good. I think it would have been better warm.

Adding on to my original review in such a short time because I went here 6 days in a row....I am not much of a scones person but damn the Strawberry and Blueberry ones were really good usually to me a scone tastes like a dry flat muffin...somehow they are really good here!!!! I mean moist in the inside with a crunchy outer layer.....Not overly sweet either! Next...You really get that neighborhood vibe in this place which I love and I thought it was awesome she had a picture of the crew that hungout next door and now hangout at this location everyday! Once again I already gave this 5 Stars and it remains and I can't wait to come back here again on my next Kauai trip!

We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!

Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!

The toast selections alone are 5 Star! We enjoyed: -Hawaiian Vanilla Latte - half sweet was the perfect balance -Americano with steamed cream - Kauai Latte-- Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for in a Mac nut syrup but I didn't notice any unique flavors...but it was still delish. But let's talk about the TOAST! They all looked SO GOOD. I narrowed it down to two: the avocado toast deluxe or the eggy toast. The eggy toast is more like an egg salad. Even though I think any time of day is a good time for egg salad, I went with the deluxe because microgreens and pickled red onions have a hold on me. While I've had variations of this toast at home and in my hometown, I've never tried it with chili. My lips were burning a bit, so if you are a sissy with heat, you might want to opt for no or reduced sauce. I left with no regrets...except that I should have come sooner than our last day on Kauai...and I should have grabbed an eggy toast to go!

We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!
